I use it every second day

Most of my recipe books I use for one or two recipes at most, but this book is an exception. I've cooked about 20-30 recipes from here and now there are 15 that I cook monthly, some even weekly. Although it's titled a low fat cookbook, you just don't notice that the food is healthy as it's all hearty and full of flavours. My favourites are italian bean stew, bacon broad bean potato supper, creamy pork with peppers, courgette and bean soup, falafel patties, mediterranean baked chicken and rice and chicken chow mien. The book is divided into chapters on snacks and starters; soups; grills; casseroles, braises and stews; roasts and bakes; quick hob suppers; pasta, rice and grains; salads; desserts and bakes; dressings sauces and stocks. I could easily throw away every other cook book I have and live only with this one.

Forget fad diets.

This relatively unsung book is the kind of thing you need to help you loose weight. There are recipes for all seasons and occasions. Portions from for one person to dinner parties and even food for celebrations and festivals.
In winter I stuck with the soup menu and moved on to salads in summer, there are even recipes for what would ordinarily be very naughty puddings, even a Christmas cake recipe!
The book is also well produced, sturdy, with lovely photography and enough to prevent repitition and prevent menu boredom. It even has meat recipes which I was not expecting!

Uncommonly great advice about diet and health

I am officially a Janis Jibrin fan; she's a true expert in the field! This book could only be described as unofficial because it debunks the so-called fad diet plans of the last dozen years or more and replaces these lies with real world facts. Read it even if JUST to get the great descriptions of what these bizarre diets are all about and what the problems with them are. Janis Jibrin goes into what really works, as well. She has a witty style and her normal approach to weight control is actually more lasting than a diet plan because this even affects your attitude toward food and health. Since reading it, I have lost many pounds and I am within a few pounds of my target weight. All without risking my overall health and happiness by adhering to some kind of wacky Cabbage Soup diet or Blood Type diet or whatever fad-of-the-month diet there is out there. Get this book and you will not believe how many useful ideas and quick tips there are in it! And don't be surprised if this book blows away some of your most closely held notions of food, diet, exercise, and health. It's the real thing.

This book has helped me to lose six pounds! It's great. Ms Jibrin offers sensible advice on how to go about getting started on a diet. It was just what I needed after the holidays. I've incorporated many of her tips into my daily life and I feel a lot healthier. Instead of making me feel bad for carrying extra weight, Ms. Jibrin made me feel great about making the effort to get in shape, eat healthy, and lose weight. This is a really great book.

Whatever formula Mr. Gormley and Dr. Lieberman have for doing amazingly good health books, they should keep it up! In today's toxin-plagued world, how refreshing it is that Mr. Gormley should once again provide consumers exactly the kind and quality of health-empowering information they are clamoring for--or should be.

I bought this book 2 weeks ago and I've already lost 7 pounds and I haven't been hungry once. The recipes are great, the layout is easy to follow, and it's completely changed the way I eat. I've been looking for a good vegetarian diet book for a while and finally found it!

Excellent Book for Vegans to Lacto-Vegetarians and others
Helpful Votes: 52 out of 53 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-23
While I'm neither a vegetarian or a vegan, I did want to have more vegetables in my low carb high protein diet. Rose Elliot did a great job on this book. The book is well balanced with readable information, very useful quick reference charts, menus, recipes, a few encouraging testimonies along the way. She does provide vegan alternatives to the lacto-vegetarian choices. And, best of all, it is an easy inexpensive way to lose weight on a low carb diet.

Her commonsense approach to recipes means you can make them with food typically on hand and quickly. Typically, most of the prep work can be done in a few minutes. And, you can expand on them as you learn the basic techniques. As I've worked my way through the book, one of my favorite recipes is her spaghetti squash using cream cheese with spices.

It literally only takes ten minutes to steam the squash in the microwave then fold in the cheese with spices. You can use already prepared cheese with herbs and spice mixes from the store. Or, you can use Philadelphia cream cheese and have your own ethnic flavors from Mexican to Indian, to Italian Garlic-Parmesan etc. And, you can use almost any steamed vegetable that has been thin sliced. It is a nice break from tomato sauces and there are never any leftovers.

This book is definitely a keeper!

It provides an easy to read, well-written, comprehensive look at the realities of these life-or-death decisions. The book covers the subject tactfully, without watering down important information. Anyone who needs information on this subject should get it here.

Cutting to the Chase

Go to any public area and it's difficult to ignore the fact that as a nation we have more and more people who are substantially overweight. It's equally true that huge numbers of diets have not worked for large numbers of people, and that in a growing number of cases significant weight is a potent health issue. For those without other options, surgery is increasingly within the realm of consideration.

Any surgery is risky and not something to be advised without extensive, individual and qualified medical consultation. The Goldberg book at least explains the issues involved and then raises the core questions and cautions that can be discussed with physicians.

Surgery is a big deal and it makes sense to get as much information as possible. Goldberg's book, co-authored with two physicians, is useful, helpful but not judgmental. For many readers, that will be the right combination. I, for one, very much liked what I saw.

Finally! A program to KEEP the weight off!

Review Date: 2005-09-07
Ever wondered how to keep the weight off once your diet helps you lose it? Look no further. This book has a great, easy to use program for keeping weight off. And it doesn't involve having to eat Weight Watcher meals forever, or not eating any white food, or eating steak for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to lose weight and keep it off.

An easy read and a great program. Definitely worthwhile!!

At first, I was skeptical about buying another weight-loss book because they are so hard to read and the advice they give usually doesn't work too well. But, I saw Dr. Chang interviewed and decided to give this book a chance. I am so glad that I did. The book was actually a fun reading experience (that's a first!), with not only a weight-loss program, but ways to stop smoking, decrease your blood pressure, and other health guidelines. After several months, I have lost almost 25 pounds, and I know that I can keep it off (which other programs don't focus on). I even got a book for my girlfriend, who is using the program too. I would definitely recommend this book if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

I have number of Weight Watcher cookbooks but this is the one I reach for the most. The recipes are quick, use regular ingredients and are filling. I think it is one of the best Weight Watchers cookbooks out there. The omelets are family favorites as are the Chicken milanese, and a Turket cutlet recipe.

This was an excellent book. I was looking for alternatives for my 2 boys who were diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. The psychologist wanted to put them on ritalin, right away. I can now say, thanks to this book, it got me started on my research for a more natural way of supplementation of vitamins and minerals for my kids. They are now SAFELY on the road to recovery and I have already seen good progress.

Easy to understand. Very informative.
