A great resource for healthy women.Review Date: 2002-07-05
Overall, I'd say it's a good book to have on hand for any woman who cares about her health, not just the latest fad diet. And even for those who do like to dabble with strange diets, but still wish to know the facts and protect themselves.

Excellent book, very thoroughReview Date: 2006-04-24
For those that are curious, this is NOT a vegetarian or vegan cookbook. A full 20% of this book is dedicated to animals and/or animal products exclusively. However, if you are a vegetarian there are many recipes for you in this book as well.
The authors cover everything from the definition of organic through recipes, and finally organic sources
One of favorite recipes in this book has to be the Eggplant balls. They are like meatballs, only using eggplant instead. These have even been consumed by devote carnivores without complaint. My other favorite is a whole-wheat baked ravioli with sauerkraut in the Friulian (a region of Italy) style that is also very good.
Be warned, this book is huge. The overall size is that of a coffee table book, and it is 460 pages. It is a workout just to get this book off the bookshelf and carry it into the kitchen. But your efforts will be rewarded. The book is full of beautiful photography, and the recipes are delicious. I highly recommend this book to anyone that makes to make more healthy food for themselves or their family.

different and delicious!Review Date: 2003-08-27
It's fun to read too -- with info on every vegetable and fruit as well as all the different ways to clean, cook, and keep them fresh. I enjoyed the farmers' stories and was happy to learn about community-supported agriculture -- where people buy shares in the harvest. The book has spurred me on to join a local CSA-- community-supported agriculture is just what America needs.

Not your usual cookbookReview Date: 2008-09-08
The proceeds go to the Jenny Crain Make It Happen fund and the Ryan Shay Memorial Fund, but that shouldn't be the reason you get the book; it's just evidence that the editor was more interested in sharing this book than lining her pocket. You could write those organizations a check. Get the book because it's worth it, and see a side of professional athletes you otherwise might not.

It's the best method for me. I make sure that I'm getting enough nutripoints for the day, and that virtually eliminates (okay, reduces) the negative things I eat or drink, like tiramisu or a diet coke, or a glass of wine. When I know that romaine lettuce has a much higher nutritional count than iceberg lettuce, I make the smarter choice. And since there are hundreds of items in each category, I even know which brand of bread will give me the best points per bite.
