Same as 'Slim for Life'

I normally review books only after purchasing and using (as I dislike when others post feedback for items they haven't even tried out), but this was a specific case where I felt it would be very useful to post some comments to other buyers. I am pretty certain this book is the same as 'Slim for Life' which I purchased on Amazon and have read through-- you can find it here: Slim for Life.

I was actually just about to purchase this book 'Ultimate Health Plan' today, because I adore Gillian's health advice and really found the 'Slim for Life' book useful and informative. So I wanted to purchase others of her books. Just as I was in the process of purchasing this book, I noticed that the title of this book "Ultimate Health Plan: The Diet Programme That will Keep You Slim for Life" is quite similar to "Slim for Life: The Ultimate Health and Detox Plan". I noticed they are both 224 pages (from Gillian's website), and include the sections "Level One: The Wake Up Call" "Level Two: The Ultimate Health Plan" "Level Three: the Dr. Gillian detox" and "Level Four: Slim for Life". So I assume they are the same exact book, and luckily I stopped myself just in time from buying this one, as I already have 'Slim for Life'. The book I have is for the American audience as it uses the American measurements (cups, Fahrenheit etc), so perhaps this book is made for the English audience (?)-- that's just an assumption, though I'm not for certain.

So if you have 'Slim for Life' I wouldn't recommend purchasing this one. On the other hand, if you haven't checked out 'Slim for Life', it's a really inspiring book with beautiful fruit and veggie photos, weight loss tips, a 28-day diet plan, and other motivation and guidance. Highly recommended!

An Important Addition to Everyone's Nutritional Library

I purchased Dr. Wright's Guide for my wife who had heard about it being discussed. My wife and I are both adequately learned in orthomolecular medicine (mega-vitamins by another term), so we do have a reasonable background in nutrition.

I have not read all of the book, but I have enjoyed the method Dr. Wright uses to describe symptoms through use of past stories of cases. No book can provide all information, particularly when the topic encompasses the almost unlimited variances within each individual's nutritional needs, but Dr. Wright's is a worthy addition to be read alongside other important nutrient books such as "The Vitamin Bible" and others.

Should a person consider this book? Yes, in my opinion this is one of the better books available, not just for it's information, but for it's style of writing which should help readers (especially those who are new to nutrients) better understand how and why good nutrition is beneficial.

The simple fact is, in today's societies of fast foods and foods grown in depleted soil, to stay healthy we must each take personal responsibility to maintain a sufficient input of balanced nutrition. While some of us have not had so much as a flu since 1979, others frequently catch every bug floating around. The sole difference is one's nutrition, and we learn much of what we need through nutrition books. Dr. Wright's Guide is a whole lot less expensive than even one day's loss of work due to a cold. It is a wise investment financially and for a happier life.

If you already have a collection of nutrition books, this is an important addition. If you have no nutrition books yet, this is a good one to start with.

When my husband was diagnosed with a grade 2 and 3 brain cancer last year, we searched high and low for alternative therapies while undergoing the conventional western medicine treatments. This book was the only book that did not suggest anything radical like stop chemotherapy all together. Dr. Dries introduces the concept of phytochemicals and how the amount of sunlight food absorb can contribute to our health. The book comes with a table of what to eat and in what priority that helps when you photocopy it and paste it on your fridge or take with you to go grocery shopping. Three months of raw fruit and vegetalbes is a tough thing to do especially in winter, but my husband lost his steroids induced puffiness in one week and after a massive rash attack that was probably the result of detoxing, he gradually lost weight and it stopped at his weight when he was 17. Thanks to this book, he is now healthy enough to swim up to 4 km a day, bowls 5 games a week, and does all the house work with no problems. He had miniml side effects while undergoing chemotherapy and his last scans indicated much scarring, but "no visible tumor activity." That from a patient who was told he had two years!

This is and has been for me a super useful reference. However with the advent of readily available up to date info on the internet, the use of texts has taken a back seat to what I can research online.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, even for those who do not train athletically....Dr. Hatfield and Daniel Gastelu provide a tremendous amount of detailed nutritional information (they even break down into descriptions of Proteins and Essential and Non Essential Amino Acids)...

If you are interested in obtaining/regaining your health---learn how to eat so that food is energy...this book will set you on the right path (I'm a vegetarian and it's been extremely helpful)to optimal conditioning regardless of your personal health goals....

Books about vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements, such as those Mindell and others have written, are great. But I've got thus-and-so problem; what should I do about it? This book answers those questions. You've just been diagnosed with arthritis? Try the items mentioned in this book, plus the other suggestions (including the dreaded "eat less and exercise" :) ) Mindell proposes. EVERYONE interested in healing with fewer prescription drugs should read this book!

Buy it because it is worth it.

I've gotten to the point that I just buy anything by Dr. Mindell. Everything he produces is packed with good information that is understandable and usable. He also doesn't fall into that trap of just repeating what he wrote in previous books. Each one shows thorough research and an understanding of how these nutritional supplements are an asset to our health. A site that I have found which dovetails nicely with Mindell's research is PapaNature. I have used Mindell's book to double check their documentation and between that and their good product choices I have been impressed. They must have Mindell's books in their own library. Everyone should.

Six small meals a day and exercise. Skipping meals and starving tells your body to store it's fat because it doesn't know when it will receive fuel again so better store up the reserves. If you eat continuously all day your body isn't hungry you're mentally satisfied and you lose weight, no fat storing. Simple chemistry.

That's the thing about this book, it is never, ever too late to finally kick that extra weight and get back into a sensible six meals a day eating plan'
Thank you

This is a great book, and one that every woman over 40 should have. It is very easy to read and isn't written with a lot of complicated terms. I think what I liked best was the book's common sense approach and giving the reader the information needed to make the important decision - pills or no pills. Although I'm not quite there yet, I know when I sit down with my Doctor, I'll be able to make an informed decision, one that will be right for me. This is a book that I will refer to often.

Cool smoothie recipes!

I took Dr. Applegate's nutrition class about ten years ago and she was so cool. She knows everything! She teaches nutrition science to more college students than anyone in the world, over 2,000 a year. I liked her book because I can spend a couple of minutes looking at one or two of her "100 super foods" and learn something fun and neat to know without having to read a whole chapter. (I didn't know avocados and chocolate were good for me.) Her book also showed me how easy all that good/bad cholesterol thing is to understand and how to keep your blood stream loaded with the right stuff. I trust all her tips and tricks about eating right because she is a professor at the University of California. I am giving my parents a copy so they will live longer. I feel more energetic after making one of her power shakes. Her cool smoothie recipes are great on a hot day. And they are extra tasty knowing they are making me healthier. I take her "super food" list with me to the supermarket so I will buy the best foods. The book is easy to read, and a trusty quick reference guide for information that shows you how to live a longer, healthier life.

This is a useful refernce book disguised as easy entertainment. It is loaded with the foods that are fun to eat and good for you at the same time. I heard Dr. Applegate say on the radio that heart disease takes a lifetime to develop and only moments to kill and that over half the deaths that occur every year are from some form of heart disease. So she scared me into buying her book! It has a "Special Risks for Women" section which I made my Mom read. Now she is eating smarter and loves her daily chocolate ration that is OK with Dr A. This book is on my nightstand and before I fall asleep I open the book at any random spot to see which of the 100 foods it opens to and I learn about a new food I had not thought about before or one I am already eating regularly and why it is so good for me. Even though she is from a big University she keeps everything real simple and easy to remember. It definitely changed my life and I feel my Mother and I will live longer because of it. If you read this, thanks Dr. Applegate.

It has extremely useful information on how to lose weight and keep it off and the importance of diet in preventing illness. This is a well written, informative and engaging book. While reading it, one has a growing sense of relief; the quiet feeling that this book will help many people change their lives in positive ways. Ms. Siple, a registered dietitian, provides a science-based, very understandable overview of the components of the chemistry of eating. She describes what the body needs, what chemicals and vitamins are depleted as a result of addiction, and simple, concrete ways to begin and maintain the healing process. Molly Siple writes in a very readable style that supports taking action. I've tried some of her recipes and find them them to be easy and delicious! Thank you, Ms. Siple for sharing your wisdom and nutritional knowledge!
