In Better Homes And Gardens 3 Steps To Weight Loss, Dr. Lawrence Cheskin draws upon his expertise and experience at the Weigh
Management Center at Johns Hopkins University to provide the non-specialist general reader with realistic solutions for losing
weight, keeping it off, and maintaining a healthful, satisfying lifestyle through three basic steps involving nutritious eating,
physical exercise, and behavioral changes. Step One is identifying the optimum and healthy weight for a particular height
and build. Step Two is determining how many calories are needed to lose weight and maintain the weight loss. Step Three is
a healthy eating plan based on caloric needs. To that end, the Better Homes And Gardens 3 Steps To Weight Loss showcases 110
superbly presented recipes enhanced with full color photography of the finished dishes. From Greek Lamb Salad with Yogurt
Dress; Pork Medallions with Pear Sauce; and Chicken with Braised Spinach and Leek; to Sesame-Teriyaki Sea Bass; Sweet Bean
Pilaf; and Mocha Pudding Cake, Better Homes And Gardens 3 Steps To Weight Loss will grace any family cookbook collection as

As silly as it seems, this book has really changed my life!! The recipes are so easy to follow: the ingredients are listed
in a column on the left and a few easy steps on the right. They are all easy to read, easy to make and everyone of them is
excellent and nutritious. I no longer have to rack my brain and spend hours researching what to cook for dinner. Thanks Lynn!

I have tried at least 50 of these recipes and have had only one that was not good (black bean chicken).
Everything else is excellent and I have made several things more than once. I'm not afraid to try any of these recipes with that track record.
Even the deserts I've tried have been good!

Takes a hard look at the 'American' way of eating - life

Review Date: 2009-01-06
Review Date: 2009-01-06
My family couldn't believe it when I bought luncheon plates to use as our dinner plates almost 10 years ago. I was still
too embarrassed to use them when someone came over to eat, I would pull out the 'regular' corelle dinner set. Now I have
some validation for my thinking! Thanks! I have a continual battle with weight. I don't yo-yo or loose weight only to gain
it back - I have just stayed at 215 lbs give or take a few for many years. I should be at about 175 for my personal opinion.
Now I can see that dining out really can be a problem. Even before I read the book, I realized one time when my family of
2 adults and 3 girls (ages9-16) were seated at a booth table, that when they brought the food, the side which my kids were
seated at would have not had enough room if the one kids meal didn't come in a basket! There was plenty of room for them to
sit, but three platters would have been end to end and touching each other on the table! And now the fast food places have
begun to sell 2 burgers for the price of one, encouraging you to overeat because of the perceived value of food in relation
to how much you pay. If it is cheap, it must be ok to eat that much. Really, I feel fast food is trying to change your lifestyle
to depend on the small amount of effort required to get it and become a frequently used option in meal planning. No small
matter that it would make the average person fatter. We have all grown up with the goodwill of others encouraging us to get
seconds, or if nothing else seems to get you out of the blue - then have something to eat... I have tried to keep from saying
this to my girls - now that this book has been published, I have had the two older ones read it and we discussed it. It helps
them understand other families eating dynamics and made them appreciate that I have not done the same. My husband is a little
slower in absorbing the book, but I think it will help him alot. Its not complicated, no journaling or mathmatic calculations,
just reduce. The french seem to cook much of thier stuff with butter and lots of cream, but they are still thinner. I would
much rather limit what I eat than try to find and 'acceptable' tasting low fat or low calorie alternative. This book helps
validate my resolve and make it easier to stick to it.
I know this review is lengthy, but its hard to condense a subject which occupies so much of our time, from meal planning, to eating and then to finally trying to loose the wieght gained or deal with the health problems associated with it.

Let me start by saying I love these guys (I don't actually even know them, I only know their work which is spectacular!).
I pre-ordered and read the book the day it arrived. As a veteran of Weight Watchers (lost 100 pounds in a year, gradually
gained back 120) and Atkins (lost 90 pounds in 6 months and gained back 140) I'm ready for some common sense. More importantly,
I'm ready for something I can do the rest of my life and get off the yo yo.
One thing these guys are brilliant at is simplification. Whether in their advertising or this book, they are great at taking the complex and making it seem so simple you wonder why you couldn't see it all along. When they say that "diets obviously don't work, otherwise we'd only need one of them" it puts the entire best-selling diet creation industry on notice.
Does it work? Who knows, the book arrived yesterday. But... it's near the beginning of 2009, I'm easily 100 pounds overweight and in a pre-diabetic state (don't worry, I'm seeing a doctor and he thinks this is brilliant as well). I don't have a better idea right now so, I'm trying it. Check back from time to time and I'll report on my progress.
Stay tuned!
Even if it doesn't work... it's worth it for the laughs!

on adopting a more healthy lifestyle, but the author's guidance is made all the more powerful by the fact that she followed

Wow - its like condensed orange juice! Clearly explains the how, what, why of healing. The chapter and chart on Price versus
Value of supplements was the clearest and easiest explanation in a few short pages, that I've ever read. The doctors and pharmacists
involved in writing it, deserve applause - first time I got the whole picture, along with clear and easy to understand information
about everything from herbs to vitamins, flower remedies and everything in between. Dr. Pettles one page description on his
natural menopausal hormone replecment therapy and natural choices versus the drug approach, made getting the book worth every
cent! I copied the page for a friend, who ended up getting the book and showing it to her doctor. She said it was so simple
and clear, her doctor stopped trying to push the drugs and gave her a prescription for Dr Pettles natural hormone replacement
therapy - on top of that its working for her. Not since I read Mindells Vitamin Bible, have I read such a clear, information
packed book! A must have for anyone interested in natural remedies and supplements - fanstastic value for the money. Incidently,
I am NOT related to the authors.

One of the best books out there for people like me who are 'food challenged'. I have a myriad of health problems from indoor
to outdoor, chemicals to foods...and when I found this book it was a real blessing. They cover everything. The recipes are
awesome, the helpful guides are something everyone should carry around and get to know. A must for everyone who wants to better

Overwhelmed by how to eat with food allergies? This book takes an easy, straight forward approach to buying, cooking and eating
for a food allergy-free diet. Not everyone has the same food allergies, so these folks have substitutions right with each
recipe. No need to second guess or hunt through other books trying to figure out what would work instead. They don't focus
just on the major allergies (wheat, sugar, dairy, corn, soy, yeast). They cover a wide range of allergies. And their recipes
are good. There's also a section that explains what food substitutes are out there and how to prepare them. For example, instead
of wheat, there is oat, barley, rye, kamut, spelt, amaranth, teff, quinoa, etc.

I am an author and a poet and during a leisure trip to Las Vegas, Nevada with my family, we were able to obtain a front row
seat at the Gladys Knight Show. It was awesome. What a display of great talent! Reading her book is fascinating. The historical
perspective of her story is amazing. She states how she believes diabetes eventually crept upon her, and why. However, she
has it under control. The ways in which she blends her songs into her treatment plan is humbling. For example, she uses the
heading in one section of the book, "Neither One Of Us Wants to Say Goodbye to the Cheeseburger," where she discusses fatty
foods and how to avoid fast foods. The pictures of her family are wonderful. Her philosophy of dealing with positive people,
exercising daily, and burning calories is a formula for success. The final section of the book deals with a variety of mouth-watering
dishes and recipes. They are all healthy with her special blend of spices, herbs, and juices, with a low fat touch. This
is an easy and relaxing book to read. It's a great treat to and for lowering one's blood sugar and staying healthy. I highly
recommend it!!!
Thank you Mrs. Knight

At Home With Gladys Knight is a wonderful, inspiring book. I bought this book for my parents who both have diabetes. After
years of trying to get them to follow doctor recommended diets it is a relief to have a book that inspires my parents to not
only care about their diet, but their physical fitness as well.
Mrs. Knight has created a quick and easy read that is full of motivation. This book gets 5 stars in the Murphy household.

constantly. There is simply no other source of herbal information which is so comprehensive. It must have taken a lifetime
to write. This book is also holistic and does not bow to science at the expense of leaving out valuable traditional information.
