I just got this book and I was engaged from the beginning to the end. Their is a lot of useful information about supplements, etc. Dr. Janson does a nice job explaining things that a layperson can understand. He seperates each category and also gives you sample supplement programs for your own dietary needs. This book was very good. It is also good for a medical person. Enjoy.

A perfect book with all information one may need re vitamins. The author writes about the changes in medicine, our risky environment, the damages from free radicals and even how stress affects our system. Stress depletes the body of nutrients, Vitamin C, B-complex, zinc and many others. He explains everything about all vitamins and their purpose, as well as other nutrients, the quantities we should take and how; all information about fat-soluble nutrients, water-soluble nutrients, mineral supplements like calcium, chromium, iron and so forth and their role. Dietary fats and essential fatty acids, amino acids and herbs all are listed in this wonderful beautifully written book. He explains when to take those supplements, their combintations, how to store them and how long to keep them.

Later on, he shows you how to set up your personal dietary supplement program, adjusted to your needs and way of living. It has a treatment program, if you suffer from a particular illness, which suppplements to use more.

It is a perfect book, simply written, not boring, stuffed with medical terms and once you 've finished it, you won't have any question regarding vitamins. Everything is explained here. I believe every house should get a copy of this book.

An excellent introduction to vitamins, minerals, and health.

Recently the American Medical Association has reversed its previous position and publicly acknowledged that Americans do not get enough vitamins and minerals from our food and need supplementation. Dr. Michael Janson has been well ahead of the AMA and has known and advocated this position for years. In this excellent book Dr. Janson discusses the role of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients in human health and discusses each important nutrient in detail -- including valuable and detailed information about both food sources and nutrient supplements. If you read this book and follow Dr. Janson's advice you will almost certainly become healthier and may well also live longer and in good health. As a research chemist who is well acquainted with Dr. Janson and his understandable, common-sense approach to nutrition and health, I highly recommend this book.

The Bible for Supplements

This book is the best "bible" of supplements for the layman who wants to make informed choices.

I first heard Dr. Janson on the radio, on the Mark Scott Show in Detroit in the early 90s. Dr. Janson inspires and motivates audiences to change their lifestyles, and focuses on helping individuals to achieve their potential for vitality and longevity. He has a unique background with training in both conventional Western medicine and alternative therapies.

I am not as enamoured of vegetariansim as Dr. Janson is, because I don't think it's right for me, however, his book allows you to individualize a supplement program that will help you to reach YOUR goals.

Use this book to help yourself tailor a supplement program that is suitable to your unique needs. Along with the book, take a look at his website and monthly newsletter, and let him help to guide you toward a healthier lifestyle.

This book has visually beautiful photos of the fruit, vegetables, and recipes. It explains all the health benefits of each fruit, vegetable, and nuts. I kept this book on my shelf and refer back to it whenever we have an illness in our family.

I have tried the Nero's Nectar to help clear phlegm congestion for a sinus infection and sore throat. It had helped tremendously for me and cleared up in 2 days.

This book is definitely worth it for me to keep on my bookshelf for great health.

Drink to Your Health

Anne McIntyre not only filled Drink to Your Health with dozens of easy recipes for juices, teas, soups, and smoothies, she also included vibrant photographs of the fresh ingredients used in the recipes. Her book is a visual, as well as culinary, pleasure.

McIntyre starts with an explanation of why water is so important-our bodies are seventy-five percent water. We lose 3 quarts of water every day through normal functions like breathing, perspiring, and urinating. All that liquid must be replaced, and she offers healthy and delicious alternatives to simply drinking lots of plain water.

The next section includes a discussion of the primary ingredients used in the recipes. She describes each one completely, including a brief history of its use, the nutrients it contains, and all the good things it can do for the body. Spices, grains, nuts, fruits, and vegetables all have a page in this section.

Recipes, classified by benefit offered, fill the rest of the book. McIntyre includes drinks for looking and feeling good, drinks for recovering from illness, and drinks for healing the soul and spirit.

Losing weight, clear eyes, great skin and hair, raising energy, stimulating the immune system, and boosting the brain are part of feeling good. Illnesses include clearing coughs and other cold symptoms, flu-busters, headaches, fevers, insomnia, arthritis, PMS, and many others. Drinks for relieving anxiety and stress, renewal, and helping depression round out the healing recipes.

I can personally vouch for the effectiveness of Nero's Nectar, a very simple recipe for relieving chest congestion due to a cold!

McIntyre ends with an appendix offering tips on things like selecting blenders and juicers, and choosing ingredients. (Yes, canned foods can be used if fresh isn't available.)

McIntyre says that "the recipes in [Drink to Your Health] are not just boring alternatives for teetotallers or health fanatics, but have been selected to stimulate the senses and scintillate the taste buds, at the same time improving health and vitality." Readers will find that her recipes provide an easy and delicious way to look and feel good.

This book is carefully-crafted in many aspects to make you feel whole, refreshed, inspired, and revitalized. The illustrations, the invaluable knowledge, and the easy to follow directions make it a great addition to any healthy-kitchen. I have tried quite a few of the drinks and find them very tasty and also true-to-their word--coughs have stopped, eyes have brightened, skin has cleared, etc. It's very well-written, informative, and nice to look at. The only thing that is a little disconcerting is the amount of sugar required for some of the recipes--I'm sure Ms. McIntyre has a health related reason for doing this, but I prefer not to use that much sugar--I usually replace the sugar with a lower dose of much healthier organic honey. Great book though--I consume one of its drinks everyday.

Wow!! The best smoothie book I've read, with so much more.

I bought this book on vacation, and it was one of the best choices I've made in a long time. I could barely walk back to the hotel before opening it! Inside I first found a section on ingredients and their healing powers. Next, there's a huge recipe selection of smoothies, juices, teas, soups, and nonalcoholic drinks, organized by what health benifits they have. Lastly, there is an appendage talking about blenders and juicers, health, and other topics. The photographs in the book are clear and beautiful. Although every drink is delicious, I highly reccommend the Jamaican Grapefruit Spritz for weight loss and the smooothie with banana, honey, and nutmeg.

Most books on the topic of weight control are facile and frivolous. Not this book! "Eat Fit, Be Fit" gives you what you need for long term success. In depth and intelligent in a very digestable way (pardon the pun) Linda Arpino covers it all. In the difficult fight to maintain a healthy lifestyle this book is both inspiring and practical. I have read a lot of information on the topic of nutrition and didn't expect this book to be so valuable. It is thoroughly researched, well-written and chock full of delicious recipes. As a busy working professional I appreciate the variety of easy to prepare meals that are nutritious and tasty. Unlike other books on weight management where calorie restriction = boring meals and few choices, you won't feel deprived. Every recipe has a nutrition analysis so that if you're counting calories, carbs, sugar or fat, this is the book for you. Kudos to the author. She has raised the standard.

EAT RIGHT-ELECTROLYTE: A NUTRITIONAL GUIDE TO MINERALS IN OUR DAILY DIET comes from an MD in private practice and provides evidence that the usual American diet does not provide for a healthy balance of electrolytes. The common results of such an imbalance: hypertension, osteoporosis, heart disease and Crohn's disease: all common problems of modern society. Nutritional research documents what makes harmful doses of minerals, what happens when there aren't enough, and advises on how to overcome dietary deficiencies.

Everyone knows, I believe, that excess salt in the diet is linked to high blood pressure, but this book goes further and discusses the role that sodium has in so many other medical conditions (osteoporosis, Crohn's disease, kidney stone, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and more). The author is a physician and backs up the text with medical studies (lots of them) done worldwide. This is the kind of book that you can pick and choose sections that interest you, but I found myself reading the entire book. Very informative.

This book came along just at the right time for me.
Last time I lost weight, I still had problems with my blood pressure.
The advice for me to reduce protein, increase fruits & vegetables, lower fat and reduce sodium to 1500 mg was god sent.
I'm following a 1600 calorie diet using the Dash 2001 1500 sodium as a core. The weight's coming off and it's the healthiest diet I've been on in my life.
I'm so glad I found this book. Other than this, I'm using the Diet Power software to track my nutrition.

I bought this book about two years ago, and I love. First off, it teaches you discipline in the food department. Before I bought this book I would eat whatever, this book helps you eat more of the things that you should like fruits and vegetables, with the point system for every fruit and vegetable you eat (depending on the ounces) you get to subtract a point. I've lost at least 5 to 6 pounds (I'm already on the thin side), a healthy way, coupled with exercise of course. I recommend this book for any one. You have nothing to loose but weight!!!!I suprised at the price because this book is worth a lot more.

I had the heart attack at 42, bypass at 43 and am now alive 17 months later thanks to people like Mogadam and his two books. There are dozens of heart books, but very, very few can really help the average person. This is one of them. You need simple, direct, updated information and this author provides it. You're probably reading this after having a scare or someone near you having one so don't delay. Read this book!

If you are a person who has tried Weight Watchers before and just needs to have a little "tweaking" done in the diet department, then this is your book. Sometimes, I feel we need to bust through a plateau by "mixing it up" a little bit. I know that I like the idea of counting "points" (Weight Watchers-style), but I wanted to try another version of "points". This book is that option. I have lost 52 pounds since April 12th. Thank you, Michael Mogadam for opening up another option!

You want to be healthy and fit. You want to live a long life. But you want to eat like a pig and sit on your la-z-boy too? Guess what? You can't!

This book is easy to read and informative. It had a lot of common sense sandwiched between medical know-how.

The THI scoring system is easy to follow, I think, and not too restrictive. You might not like the fact that eating at Denny's is out but I personally would rather live half a dozen years longer because I gave up the Grand Slam breakfast.

Do yourself a favor and buy this book and read it. Unlike so many other books on the market, Dr. Mogadam doesn't seem to be selling anything but the truth, and the price is very low!

I read this book when I am feeling depressed on my weight-loss program. It really helps me when I want to over-indulge. The author mentions something about having a ring that she wears all the time. I bought an inexpensive ring to wear. Whenever I start getting depressed I look at my ring and it reminds me of my goals. The author has a lot of good tips and I recommend this book. She was obese at one time and lost the weight.

I am a big, big fan of Debbie and her books. This author's books have been instrumental in changing my life.

I have read each one over and over again and each time, I get something new out of it.

The Emotional Eater's Book of Inspiration is unique in that it tackles many of the "myths" that the dieting and non-dieting worlds have "put out there".

One of the biggest problems with emotional eating is the games and the denial that the disease plays with us. This book cuts right through all of that and gives us an honest and sometimes hard look at our realities.

I am on my third reading of this book. I bring it along with me, along with Debbie's Overeaters Journal, and refer to is often during the day.

This author has been there - while she is a PHD, she has also lived the private h ---- that is compulsive overeating and her sympathy, love and understanding shines through.

If you feel you may have a problem with food or know that you do, buy yourself the best Christmas gift - buy this book. Then, sit down and slowly read it. Once you have done that, go back and read all of Debbie's other books - they will change your life! Thank you Debbie.

This is one of those books you keep picking up and wanting to read. There are so many weight loss related books to choose, and believe me, I think I have half of them if not more....but you know you've found a Gem when you keep referring to it often while most of the others collect dust. If you're an emotional eater and just someone looking for some support as you journey towards a healthier lifestyle, you really NEED THIS BOOK. Plus its small, you can take it anywhere but for a smaller sized book its PACKED with some of the best inspirational pages you'll find! I've been on many weight loss programs (finally stayed with Jenny Craig, the BEST there is!) and now with the help of books like this one, I know I'll finally get to where I have always wanted to be in life. Thank you so much for this book Debbie! I only hope more people will 'browse' around more on amazon and pick it up like I did! Well worth every cent!!!

I read F-Plan Diet years ago, tried it and lost weight. The weight stayed off much easier than with fad diets. A diagnosis of diabetes brought me back to Audrey Eyton's diet book, F-Plan. I ate 1000 calories, diabetic recommended amount of carbohydrates and 35-50 grams of fiber daily. In six months I lost over 50 lbs. My blood sugars were in the 80's even after eating meals. I added a few more supplements that really cemented the restoration of my pancreatic system. No shots, no pills! Just exercise 20-30 minutes daily and the F-Plan Diet. I kept a daily journal of my counts and progress and eating plan. On days when I was resistant to planning the next days meals, I would simply find a menu from my journal. Nothing could be easier! Love the Daily Fiber Filler cereal recipe! My doctor is pleased and so am I.

As a teacher of Adolescents, I come in contact with quite a few girls suffering from eating problems. With today's mania on looking like a model or pop diva...some girls seem to have lost control on how to get back to proper nutrition. They don't even realize they have a problem till you show them a picture of what they looked like prior to the crazy eating fads they tried. A major complaint I hear is that these girls have lost all sense of what it is to eat properly... they are on such a roller coaster. This book is a very easy read and I have found it to be very helpful in teaching my classes on proper nutrition and heathy attitudes towards their bodies and life styles. I am very fortunate that one of my students brought this book to my attention. Thank you MaryAnn Barnes for making my job a tad easier with your book !!!!!! Lisa B.

This unusual and well written book is about real people and their struggles with obesity and the resulting ostracizm and prejudices from a society obsessed with thinness to the point of anorexia. It provides re-telling of interviews with people attending the Rice Diet House in Durham, North Carolina, and it shows how their common bond of being fat has created a subculture that provides support to their kind in an otherwise rather hostile world. For them the Rice House is the place of last reort after failure of all other approaches to diet. The Rice diet is the oldest successfull program still in existance and doing good. This book is very informing and a delight to read because it is real and not the usual hype used by the sellers of diet programs.

I have been using Harriet Roth's books for a long time, now this one only builds and updates her previous books. It has been very helpful to me to use these new recipes, giving my family a whole new selection of meals that are in keeping with all the new nutritional information available today.
I was pleased to hear about this new and updated book after my family and I have benefited so much from using her other books. The recipes use all the new products that are available today as well as eliminating trans fats and saturated fats.

This book offers you the opportunity to change your eating style, understand why and lose weight in the process. My husband and I followed Harriet's lifestyle of eating suggestions and were surprised at the quality and tastefulness of the receipes. The added bonus was an ease in losing 34 lbs(my husband) and 17 lbs (me). The important part for us is the continuation in our pleasure in following this new lifestyle of eating and looking so great!

After looking at several different books aimed at helping people reduce their cholesterol, this is my favorite thus far. It has an introductory section on cholesterol and how it affects you -- enough info if you are uninformed but not over the top with the science of it. Then Roth has a "jump start" diet plan that I like very much so far -- breakfasts are pretty much set, but the lunches and dinners are flexible to adjust for the types of veggies and fruits you personally like, as do the snacks. It is easy to follow and reasonable in what it is asking you to do/change for the two weeks Roth recommends that you are on it. This in particular made the book stand out from other books of this type. Then Roth features a "maintenance" diet that is meant to be a long-term lifestyle change for a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet. It too is reasonable. Both sections are accompanied by recipes. (At this point, I have only tried the muffin recipe, which is great).

And let me say now that the thought of all of the oat bran and oat meal may seem overwhelming, but the portion sizes might surprise you, and will, most likely, fill you up. The muffins Roth recommends are excellent (although I added a little more applesauce because they were a little dry for me). I also found that the muffin recipe bakes up fine when I put it in two muffin loaf pans - I just cut each loaf so that I have the 12 portions the recipe makes. (Also makes them easier to freeze, as they are flat pieces).

In summary, I have read multiple books on lowering cholesterol and low-cholesterol diets, and this is my favorite thus far. I actually got it from my library, but like it so much that I am purchasing. Contains good diet plans, recipes, and solid advice. A keeper!
