The Saint-Tropez is an excellent diet book, or better yet, a way of life.
It's very easy to follow, once you read the book.
The recipes are out of this world! Who thought of cooking spinach with pine nuts and raisins ? There are no rare ingredients, everything is at your grocery store.
This diet combines two nutrients in every meal, omega-3 and foods rich in beta carotene.
Some of the recipes have two parts like "Marinated grilled vegetables", The marinade part for this recipe could be used also as a salad dressing.
Also the recipes are not complicated, they are simple, but different.

A lifestyle diet which is realistic!

I am so glad that I bought this book. After a fast food diet of KFC and Big Macs and with the extra pounds packing on this was just what I needed!

After just one week and I see results: I have lost some weight and I do not feel deprived at all. This diet should be used by everyone who is interested in not only their weight management but also those are interested in living a healthy lifestyle where processed food is a thing of the past. The food can be a bit pricey but if you use your common sense substitutes are easily found.

I loved this book. Surprised to not really hear much about it. I found it one day while playing on Amazon and reading reviews. After I read the reviews I immediately bought the book. It is an easy read. Simple and to the point. I have been trying the simple recipies day to day for the past two weeks and love most every one of them. I feel like a gourmet chef but it is so easy. My kids are still a little stand offish about trying radically new stuff but I know in time they will get more and more used to it. I love having a glass of wine now and then and I do find that I simply enjoy the taste and freshness of the food. I highly recommed. We should all shake up our diets and make them tastier and healthier.

Healthy and Delicious, too!

I just finished my second marathon season, and am ready to take a step up in the laziest manner possible. ha ha! My previous diet was vegetarian, no dairy, but fish and eggs were included because I didn't feel like I was getting the right fats and protein. What I like about this book is that Brendan gives you the info to dive right into a vegan diet, but he also gives you the basics for someone that wants to slowly ease in, with regards to effort. I have started by adding to my intake every day: a veggie rich salad, a smoothie, and an energy bar. They were pretty simple, and did not involve spending $237 at whole foods (beside, I found a great co-op which is way cheaper). I pick a few things, and then shop only for the ingredient they require. I have tried sprouting quinoa and buckwheat, and the quinoa has become a new favorite in salads and energy bars. I'm also a big fan of BOKU Superfood powder, which has a lot of the ingredients he talks about like Chlorella, Sea Vegetables, and other good stuff. I don't spend much time cooking during the week, so I prep all my veggies, salad items, and energy bars on Sundays, and then everything is really fast during the week. I'm not much of a dinner person either... I often go out with friends and follow his eating out tips, and or myself eating a bowl of cooked psuedograins for dinner, and that's enough. After a few weeks, I'm down from 130lbs to about 127, and my body fat has decreased about 2% as well. Weightloss is appealing, but its not really my priority, mind you. Its all easy enough, becomes easier after you try recipes a few times, and you feel very good since you're getting proper nutrition for once without crazy supplements! This is a lifestyle change and something I feel like I can do on an ongoing basis.

Alkaline vegan diet proves a responsible pattern for athletes and everyday people

Review Date: 2008-08-10
In a mere coincidence, I bought this book when I just had completed the Golden Bridge Yogi cleanse, an alkaline based vegan cleanse, with a real sense of where my diet should be at. I was vegan based during my marathon trainings in the past, but had developed Hashimoto's disease a year after my last marathon, which made me quit soy products, thinking I had to go back to dairy for protein sources, only to not feel good about it physically and mentally. In addition, the skin on my arms and face getting rough, my energy levels not improving either.
So I read about Brendan Brazier, a vegan triathlete, and wanted to give his plan a try. I love his ideas and I love the fact that his food lists are based on alkaline levels, explains how eating this way can improve muscle recovery, help endurance, and just generally make you feel really good, and it is true. I LOVE the pizza recipes and have been sprouting like crazy. My husband loves them as well. This book is great for any vegan who wants to be back to basics, and develop a real love of raw food eating with some low temp baking options.

A Dream Come True

Sounds a bit over the top, but I'm an actress in Hollywood with an athletic build. I've always found it hard to stay really lean, even though I'm a hard-core athlete, and that makes it hard to compete with the waifs. I bought Brendan's book two months ago and for the first time I am shredded without starving myself. I feel better than I ever have in my entire life and I honestly can't believe it.

I love the diet, love the food, love the philosophy. (I'm also an environmentalist)

I read the book cover-to-cover, excited by the philosophy but dismayed by the foreign foods that I needed to learn to locate, sprout and soak in order to start. This was just initial panic. I got over it.

I started with the smoothies and energy bars. I bought the Vega Complete Whole Food Optimizer he recommends and I found that making the smoothies was super-fast (throw my fruit, water, optimizer in a blender and go) and that while the energy bars took a little time, I could make a 2-month supply at a time, and then have a quick, easy snack always ready. I like them best frozen, so I'm not worried about spoilage. That was week one.

Week two I did my big shop (it was a bit pricey to start, but it's been very cheap ever since) which took a little to psych up for, washed and sanitized my fruits and veggies, and started sprouting. As soon as my sprouts were ready (a few days later) I took a full day and made pizza, burgers, crackers, sauces, salad dressings, etc. I basically made a little of everything. The joy was that I then could eat all week without doing anything but opening up the fridge. Since then, I've run out of things one by one, but since I've done it before, I had all of the ingredients on hand and it was no big deal to replenish; getting started was the hard part. I was glad I just bit the bullet and did it all at once.

Sprouting and soaking have become part of my routine and I actually find it kind of fun. It's very fast and I get the "farmer's joy" of seeing the first shoots every few days.

I keep Brendan's book on the table and I read part of it every day while I eat. I'll probably keep doing that until I feel like I have fully absorbed it and can really remember what nutrients are in which food.

Last night I did I bathing suit scene in my acting class and didn't think twice about stripping down in front of everyone. That's a first.

I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to look in the mirror and feel great about my body, without having to punish myself to get the look I want. When I told my husband he said, "I never thought I'd hear you say those words." Yeah, neither did I.

The Best Weight-Loss Plan

I cannot say enough good things about this book. Almost a year ago, my husband decided he needed to lose weight (his doctor had been telling him to do so for years; he was verging into diabetes despite being on Glucophage, Glucotrol, and Lipitor). My husband's one criterion was he wanted a diet that allowed him to eat frequently during the day because he didn't want to be hungry. Enter Heber's book!

Merely by increasing the number of vegetables and fruits that my husband ate, he crowded out the crap he'd been obliviously living on. He began to count calories because the results from merely eating more healthily a la Heber made him feel very positive. In six months, he lost sixty-five pounds. His cholesterol went from 220 (a number achieved with the help of those meds) to 125. He's kept the weight off five months now, but we are determined that he will be eating this way for life. We have a word in our household: Heberific. My husband's Park Avenue doctor phoned me and said: "I didn't recognize your husband from his numbers [meaning his blood test numbers]. They've never looked like this! You've added at least ten years to your husband's life, and really fifteen quality years. You are a hero!" I accepted the compliment because it's I who do most of the food preparation.

Now I go to the fruits-and-vegetable market almost every day. I too have made a game of tracking what color fruits and vegies my husband is eating (I composed a daily chart; I've noticed another reader said he did the same thing). I keep meaning to write Dr. Heber a thank-you letter but then I thought perhaps I should simply post my praise on Amazon.

I know Dr. Heber formulated this way of eating primarily to safeguard people from the major chronic diseases (heart disease, cancer) that are diet related, but this way of eating is fun and has had extraordinary results in my family. I've given this book to my parents (who are not overweight) and recommend it incessantly. I am not being hyperbolic when I say that five stars for this book isn't enough.

For anyone who has ever argued about chips v. crudite with their husband, this is the book for you. Very insightful and realistic look at how we eat and how it affects those around us, including how someone ELSE eats effects our own eating habits (anyone remember dating that guy and gaining 10 lbs. on his diet of beer and wings?). Fun little vignettes and quizzes keep the book flowing. A must read for anyone struggling with their partners' eating habits.

A friend told me about this book and how much the concepts when applied, had helped her feel so much better - and healthier! I have been following the ideas for around 4 weeks now and couldn't agree more. Even though my goal was not to lose weight, I've lost 10 pounds just by eating better - according to color! And believe it or not, I feel better as well. Buy this book and a bright highlighter. You'll soon be marking your favorite brightly colored foods - and then filling your grocery cart with them. Well written, easy to understand and chock full of references - it simply makes sense.

It is now 5 months later since I first reviewed this book and I've loaned out my copy to several people - all are experiencing similar results as I have. I continue to eat "by color", my weight has stayed off, I can't remember when I was last sick and what was merely a good book has become a terrific reference book. If you forget what particular benefits a certain color food has - simply look it up - layed out clearly in the book - by color of course!

NOTE: It is now January 2007 and I continue to eat according to "colors". My weight has stayed off, I was not sick even one day in 2006 and every week I fill up a plastic container (for work snacks) filled with vegetable color!

This book is very easy to read. It's also very easy to understand where the author is coming from regarding his strategies for healthcare.

This author does a great job of addressing many diseases that doctors today don't have the answer to. Modern medicine wants to keep you sick whereas this author writes to get you well. However, he still advocates you keep an MD. Then he tells you to take personal responsibility of your healthcare so you won't need your doctor.

The best thing this book has going for it is that it's real world and you can put the techniques in practice immediately. Also, the book is well researched and the studies mentioned are very thorough.

This should be on every person's bookshelf be you young or old.

I hate the idea that being thin is healthy. Just because you are thin doesn't mean you are healthy. That said I wanted to say that I really enjoyed this book! I read it in two days, it usually takes me a month or so to read diet books. Diet books are so boring! This isn't really a diet book but a motivating to be healthy book!
The ideas behind the book are so simple, to lose weight and to maintain that weight. There are tips in here that seem so obvious but we tend to forget, we beat ourselves up and then start the process all over again.

This book is a great sequel to Anne Fletcher's previous book, Thin for Life on eating healthy and losing weight. While I recommend reading Thin for Life first for a lot of great tips on motivation and long-term strategies, Eating Thin for Life has inspiring stories from people who lost weight and a number of strategies as well.

The best aspects of this book are its recipes. It has a short section with suggestions of quick, balanced meals and snacks of set calorie value that you can put together with little to no cooking. Additionally, it has a longer section containing tons of recipes of all kinds - salads, main dishes, breakfasts, quick breads, desserts, etc. The recipes are surprisingly delicious and satisfying for how healthy they are, and I've already learned new cooking techniques for creating healthier recipes of my own. This book has helped me make a permanent switch to a better lifestyle and lose weight in the process!

If you are a life-long yo-yo dieter like me, this is a book that will give you hope for your future efforts in the weight loss struggle. Anne Fletcher has provided helpful weight loss and maintenance tips and strategies from the "masters"...those folks who have lost weight and kept it off for years. It's a "must read" for anyone who is tired of the weight loss merry-go-round. Very encouraging!

As a professional nutritional consultant, I write a two page monthly newsletter and am in awe of the consistent high quality of what Dr. Ronzio has given us. In my efforts to distill pertinent material for the busy doctor from books and scientific articles, I have many reference and text books to further consult from. I invariably look to Dr. Ronzio's Encyclopedia on Nutrition and Good Health for integrity, clarity and depth of understanding in objective and concise terminology. Like the other reviewers of this enclyclopedia on nutrition and good health, I find it a very valuable and useful source.

I highly recommend that nutritional health professionals obtain two reference copies, one for their immediate use and the other as their waiting room copy. Its inviting manner with immediately usable information allows for a better educated patient with even a better chance of getting well.

I also recommend Dr. Ronzio's Enclylopedia to anyone having difficulty explaining the nature of good nutrition to the rest of the family. He adeptly addresses and clarifies much of the bogus nutritional information in today's terms and settings in a very easy to find and read format.

Thank you, Dr. Ronzio, for all your dedicated hard work to provide The Encyclopedia of Nutrition and Good Health.

I couldn`t imagine a book on the subject of food combining being more comprehensive and at the same time a quick, easy read! I love this little book-my whole family has read it and is now doing food combining! I`ve lost a few pounds although that was not my mail motivation; I totally recommend this to anyone interested in the subject!! M Murphy

This book is very helpful in redefining the Food Combining rules that Marilu Henner talks about in her books. After reading all of Henner's books, I still had some additional questions about how to properly food combine. This book was a tremendous help. Plus, it is short, sweet, and to the point. Excellent book.

Cheeseburger hold the cheese, hold the bun

Now that I have read this book I know how to properly order a cheeseburger so that I don't upset the balance of my stomache. I feel confident in knowing what I can eat, with what and when. This was alot easier to understand than any of the Suzanne Sommers books. The book wasn't filled with recipes for the rich and famous.I enjoyed this book and will pass it along to other friends who are still eating those Cheeseburgers loaded with everything and supersized fries.

An uncomplicated explanation

Every book I have ever bought that refered to food combining contained hundreds of pages of small print. Not very inviting and difficult to read and understand. This book clarifies and explains the simple rationals and concepts. I'm trying to give this way of eating a good try, but I do not want to pull out a book that looks like War and Peace every time I eat something. This is so easy to refer to and transport around with me, until I know what I am doing.

Beer is a Starch

Who knew beer was a starch? Not me! Like many of the other reviewers, I came into food combining through the Marilu Henner, Total Health Makeover plan. Marilu's books are great but they don't provide enough detail about classifying produce. For instance, I wanted to eat a sweet potato with a protein and checked Marilu's book to make sure that sweet potatoes were veggies. Sweet potatoes? Not listed. I originally ordered Kathryn Marsden's book to fill in the gaps for the missing food items but wound up learning more than just how to classify produce. In addition to including and classifying every fruit or veggie known to man, it's also small enough that I can carry it in my purse for quick reference in restaurants. Now, I know not to drink beer with fish.

...and in case you're wondering, sweet potatoes are starches!
