Part I, a quarter-inch thick discusses the basic principles of health and nutrition. This section lists and explains the various kinds of nutrients and food supplements.
Part II, by far the biggest section of the book measuring in at an inch and a quarter, provides the reader with an A-Z listing of many common disorders (such as backache or diabetes) and what you can do about them from a nutritional point of view.
The book ends with Part III, the last quarter-inch of the book, which is devoted to traditional therapies and conventional treatments that can be used along with a nutritional support. Here you'll find info on treatments such as chiropractic, massage therapy, color therapy, and so on.
I have to say, I was pretty impressed with the amount of info contained in this book and I can definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good nutritional reference book to put on their shelf when questions arise. Additionally, is also might give readers ideas of other types of therapies they could try for various medical problems. Other health titles I can recommend also include The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution for people who have trouble with chronic plantar fasciitis.

Exceptionally good bookReview Date: 2008-11-11
The book carefully exposes (with thorough endnotes) major fallacies held by most people and, at the same time, provides a realistically attainable solution. And did I mention that it's engaging?
I'm not a vegetarian, not young (I'm 50), not overweight and have no cardiovascular issues. I still believe that killing for food is ethical.
Until reading this book, I usually ate a "well-rounded diet," including red meat, large glasses of whole milk, cheese, chicken and eggs. To me, vegans were cultish, over-board fanatics.
But because of this book, my wife and I now see that a plant based diet is more rational and healthy. Dare I admit that I now want us and our children to become vegans?
Reading this book compels the conclusion that we act in our own self-interest, as well as the planet's, by eating a plant based diet. The book shatters myths regarding the supposed need to eat meat, dairy and eggs. It illuminates the misinformation spread by the cattle, swine and poultry industries. To achieve and keep whatever strength, smarts and health we can, this book cogently asserts that we'd be better off eliminating animal products.
As a beacon that approaches its subject with zeal while maintaining an objective tone (usually) and compassion for us who are ignorant (always). The thinking set forth in this book could truly change our lives and eventually our planet.
If you can't afford it, borrow it from a friend or library.

10 stars - so far the best of the best GF cookbooksReview Date: 2008-11-16
I have tried the basic sandwich bread and it has far exceeded any others I have bought or made from scratch or a mix (with the possible exception of Whole Foods brand Gluten-Free frozen bread). This week I sat at my desk at work and was eating a sandwich with this bread. A friend stopped by and did a double-take! She said "it's so unusual to see you eating such a yummy-looking sandwich!"
I have also made the soft-pretzels, which were tasty, but I allowed them to rise too much, so the cooking was more difficult. The Blueberry muffins, and Pumpkin Bread look, taste, and have a crumb very much like they were made from wheat. The Walnut Bread was tasty, but crumbly, and may just need smaller walnut pieces added to help it keep its shape. The Almond Biscotti were very tasty and cooked up well - they passed muster with my gluten eating friends. The chocolate chip cookies were tasty, but were very dependant on the oven temperature being correct and my oven tends to run on the low end of temperature. The apple pie was very tasty, but there was too much crumb topping for me, but the rest of my family enjoyed it. I plan to try out several more recipes and I am looking forward to them.
I agree with another person's review that there is a lot of refined sugar and fats - just like most wheat based cookbooks. However A. R. does provide some guidelines about how to make many items a more healthful with whole grains. Also, most things use Canola oil in this book, which tends to be more healthful than butter and creates better results with the GF flours. As a side note, the publisher or A. R. gets kudos for using what appear to be pictures of gluten-free products on the front and back covers (rather than stock picts of wheat-containing breads as other GF cookbooks have done).

Best GF cookbook I've found.Review Date: 2008-10-28
Every single recipe is an absolute winner. The shortbread is divine, the chocolate chip cookies are my new standard, the vanilla cupcakes are better than my old wheat-flour ones, and I have total confidence when I try a new recipe that it will turn out wonderfully. Easy recipes and tips make it even better (no running around town looking for 10 different kinds of flour). This book may be smaller and simpler than others, but it is the best; I have recommended it to all of my celiac friends. *****
A-Mazing!!!Review Date: 2008-10-25
1. The lemon cake on the front cover? TO DIE FOR!!! I replaced the butter with soy butter and the milk with soy milk and . . . ta da! Dairy-free as well!
2. The chocolate chip cookies are awesome. You would honestly never guess they were gluten-free (or dairy-free for that matter!)
3. The brownies are fantastic, but since I like less of a milk-chocolatey taste to my brownies I make them with Ghirardelli's Bittersweet Chocolate Chips (before I went dairy-free. Those chips are NOT dairy-free)and I think they're far better that way.
4. I love the sandwich bread, although I only needed to bake it for half the time. Must be doing something wrong, but it still tastes great!
5. The pizza crust is fantastic. The "dough" is ridiculously difficult to work with and you'd never think it could possibly bake into something that tasted both crisp and chewy, but surprise surprise!
6. The rustic flat bread (focaccia) recipe is great. I actually use that bread as my sandwich bread. It tastes great toasted. It's just easier to make this bread than the sandwich bread so I usually just use this as my all-purpose bread.
The great thing about this book is that it teaches you how to adapt normal recipes to suit a gluten-free lifestyle. This is truly the only gluten-free cookbook you need to buy because not only are the recipes great, but the basic flour mixes that she teaches you to make will help you make other things that aren't in this cookbook. Buy it! And make the lemon cake! (Although it takes FOREVER!)

The Most Important Book I've Ever ReadReview Date: 2008-08-26
"Nutrition and Physical Degeneration" slices through modern nutrition BS with devastatingly simple logic: Price found the healthiest cultures in the world, and recorded what they were doing. It's as simple as that.
For those who are concerned with the credibility of the book, I'll mention that it's very consistent with what anthropologists and field physicians were saying at the time. Price also published some of his findings in respected peer-reviewed journals like JAMA and JADA during his lifetime. His genius was in consolidating information from many different cultures and examining what they had in common. Modern Western food habits have left a trail of destruction throughout the world, and it was painfully obvious to anyone observing a transition from traditional foods to industrially processed Western foods.
Price and other groups of researchers have shown that modern degenerative disease is caused by a modern diet, yet mainstream nutrition research continues to fumble around in the dark. These days, researchers conduct studies that compare the sick to the sicker and confuse correlation with causation. This information then gets conveyed to us by a media that is completely unscientific and more concerned with creating a big story than conveying sound information. Leave them all in the dust and learn how to be truly healthy by reading the most important and most overlooked piece of health research ever published.
How to create a healthy human being with nutritionReview Date: 2008-06-23
I fear that is the only way we can get past our current culture obsessed with lowfat oversugared fake food.
This book changed my life and the life of my son. In a time where vegetables-lowfat-tofu eating dietary principles are held up as the answer to health we are eating beef liver and cod liver oil, pastured meat and eggs, wild seafoods and raw grassfed milk, butter and cream, bone broths, soaked grains and nuts and fermented vegetables to try to achieve the 10x the RDA of fat soluble vitamins and 5x the RDA of minerals and water soluble vitamins that protected people around the globe from disease and enabled them to achieve their full genetic potential (ie. the wide palates, model cheekbones and manly square jaws!)
I already know the 3 years following the principles in this book and the WAP Foundation has helped my son as his palate his widened and tooth spacing increased from age 2 to age 5. I'm excited to see if his secondary teeth will come in straight and avoid braces like I had!
Price was a DDS who was the head of research for the ADA of his day... someone very learned with the scientific method. His ten years of travelling the globe has given us most vital information on a natural human diet and how this relates to health and the growth of a child most especially.
I constantly look around me everyday and see the result of modern processed food: the weak chins, narrow palates, crowded teeth, narrow nostrils, "deviated septums" and underdeveloped faces. This is NOT a results of genetics, is is a result of your diet!! That is mind blowing!! As a relatively new mother, that is life changing to know that I can effect how my child will look by what I feed him.
I especially see the results of physical degeneration in the faces and teeth of my son's generation. Interestingly enough, I rarely see it in my parent's generation! (Both my parents were raised on cod liver oil btw.) This alone has been fascinating to consider and it spurred me on to learn more about how proper nutrition effects our bone structure and our health.
With respect to myself, this book inspired me to get tested for vitamin D deficiency, and supplement with cod liver oil. Learning how much vit. D can effect your immune system and breast cancer risk is only secondary to how good I feel... much less fatigued, happier and more resilient on this diet. I used to be a healthy vegetarian eater, but a traditional diet based on WAPF principles is hands down much better for me.

Really?Review Date: 2007-05-31
I haven't tried any of her recipes but I it seems that many of the recipes do not follow her traditional Greek way of cooking. I mean canola oil, for instance, certainly is not a part of traditional cooking anywhere. It is a relatively modern phenomena. She also uses white sugar and white flour in some of her recipes. Come on! These things were not part of the traditional Greek diet. And, really, do you think they used low-fat dairy products. Give us a break!

Good explaination of Crete dietReview Date: 2008-01-20
Like most "diet" books there are sections on why this works scientifically and some meal plans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is helpful but I did skim the first few chapters. There is also a "food pyramid" and many helpful tables as to what you should try to fit into your diet.
I have been following the advice of this book (adapting the meal plans to what is doable long term for my spouse and I) and I can honestly say that I feel good, calm, and not hungry. Plus I love it that drinking a glass of wine with dinner is acceptable!
For people who are looking for a face lift on your diet, I do recommend this book.

Dr. Bob's advice: dead on. Review Date: 2007-12-14
I read through Dr. Bob's book, took notes, implemented some of the thoughts... I read the entry of one of the readers below that talked about the parasites and wondered if perhaps that was it for us too.
We had an appointment and saw a doctor. Parasites it was. Five days on a course of black walnut tincture and my daughter was a new child. She lost her diagnosis of ADHD the next doctor appointment we had. The teachers could not believe the difference. We are still in awe.
Thank you Dr. Bob. Without you and your book, my daughter would still be on Concerta. And the health of our family would never have been improved from your other recommendations.
For this and so much more, Dr. Bob:
THANK YOU !!!
PS We also HIGHLY recommend the daily devotional Dr. Bob has written. I don't have a friend who hasn't bought it after hearing some of the topics discussed in it - turning grey hair back, the hazards of peanut butter, better sleep, back pain solutions, bringing liver enzymes back to normal, migraines, and the list goes on and on with advice we had never ever heard before and my friends and I read A LOT of health books !!!
Dr. Bob does a good job of writing..but misses a few points.Review Date: 2008-02-28
Noticed a difference in only 5 days!Review Date: 2007-11-13
While reading Dr. Bob's book I compared my son's 'symptoms' to those in the book. Dr. Bob's book has been a lifesaver! We noticed a difference in only 5 days!
We started w/ the nigtly salmon oil, added flax, changed to soy and rice milk and we are beginning to add vitamins and whole food minerals. We even started the program for all 3 my children.
This book has added a bright future for our children and has given my husband and I the peace in knowing we are actually getting to the root of the problam instead of just medicating the problem. Thanks Dr. Bob.
