Know Your Numbers, Outlive Your Diabetes: 5 Essential Health Factors You Can Master to Enjoy a Long and Healthy Life (Marlowe Diabetes Library)
A relentlessly upbeat ode to overcoming adversityReview Date: 2008-04-05
Why I wrote this bookReview Date: 2008-02-08
I have learned a lot through the years about how to manage my diabetes: what to eat, the importance of exercise, carb-counting, checking my blood sugars, but that all felt like work. Lots of work. Today I still do these things of course, but I do them with a profoundly different attitude; rather than seeing them as work I focus on what they give me - energy, strength, good health, the rewards of how brave and powerful I am and pride in meeting the demands of diabetes, face-to-face day after day, joyfully.
I have learned to be patient, kind and forgiving with myself and manage my diabetes from a place of love, courage, kindness and appreciation for all my blessings. By focusing on these emotions, they grow in your life and you end up infusing your day with greater happiness. When the quality of your day changes, your life changes.
I wrote this book for my fellow diabetics and for health care providers, so that they will better understand, coach and counsel patients. Here are some comments from diabetes educators who have read the book, "It was magical to read "The ABCs," it brought tears to my eyes so many times! I will be recommending this book to so many of my patients with diabetes - young, old, parents and fellow professionals." Another, "What a delightful book. I enjoyed all of it and found gems of insight, observation and wisdom for people to consider, savor, and act on. Reading this book is a bit like taking small, regular doses of healing and inspiration." And finally, "At my work I see mostly type 2 patients. When they hear their diagnose I give them education about lifestyle, medication, teach them to control their blood sugar and to inject insulin. We also talk about the emotional side of diabetes, but now that I am reading your book I know it is not as much as it should be. Diabetes is much more than the blood sugars, blood pressures and weight control. My colleagues also want to read your book. I hope we will all use your vision and tools to help our patients."
These words are my gift. I hope you give yourself the gift of better management through your own positive emotions as this book will coach you to do. I wrote this book so that you can live happier and healthier - and create the life you want - not despite diabetes, but because of diabetes. That's my wish for you.

Great book about the internal diet!Review Date: 2005-10-29
His quadrant chart of a balanced meal is excellent. I have been following it and advising others about it for almost twenty years.
Aihara alludes to and I also explain to people how their external diet--over 125 possible household problems--has an even greater impact on one's health and affects internal body chemistry.

Great primer for acid and alkaline forming foodsReview Date: 2007-04-01
a must-read for those interested in the macrobiotic dietReview Date: 2004-06-19
Unlike alot of the other books explaining the principles of macro and the acid-alkaline balance, this is largely a scientific explanation of exactly what are the chemical reactions *causing* the different foods we eat to have various effects on us, rather than simply instructions on how much of what to eat per day etc. For me personally, i like to go in to any program informed; and for a while i cringed at the idea of having to go heavilly into chemistry to know what the macro nutritionists are really talking about-- but i would definatelly push this as an excellent introduction: concise, elegant, comprehensive and suprisingly accessible. I might even suggest this book to someone just starting out learning chemistry of any sort; i wish i had had this book around when i was first learning the subject :) . Aihara is good at raising interest in the subject, and also at building up to it: framing the entire discussion in terms of where cells first took on all the traits they still have: in the ocean water where they evolved. It's a great way to introduce the subject and at a slender 177 pages of text, a good place to get your bearings or, if you like, just a good read.

Best book ever on Women's healthReview Date: 2006-05-18
Clearly written, truly holistic, zeros in on esentialsReview Date: 2004-07-13
This book provides an incredible wealth of theoretical information as well as practical applications that both the health-professional and the lay person can apply and benefit from.
Dr. Corsello has a real "gift" for writing and an "encyclopedic knowledge", both at the "horizontal ((quantitative, scientific) level and at the "vertical" (qualitative, intuitive) level. Thus I am convinced that this work and others that will come, together with her lectures, workshops, and courses will be able to help great many people, both at the national and at the international level, at a time when this type of knowledge is becoming increasingly more important and sought.
The new, emerging medicine will not only be scientific and spiritual but also pedagogical and moral, preventive and therapeutic; it will have to address itself to the whole of human nature and not only to some of its parts and will include the emotional-artistic dimension which has been greatly neglected.
In conclusion, The Ageless Woman is truly a pivotal book whose time has come and which I would greatly recommend to professional and lay persons.

Thank You, Serafina Corsello!Review Date: 2000-04-01
I have tried her remedies for my particular ailments and they work! Thank you Serafina. There is so much packed into this book that I have read it four times and keep referring back to it. It is a great read. Serafina Corsello is on to something here.
This book is not just about turning back the clock (The Ageless Woman) or looking young all of your life, although Serafina Corsello states that it is one of the benefits of following her recommendations. She is 66 years old and looks 46. This book is about taking charge of your life, controlling your destiny, finding the power within you.

A book of balance and harmonyReview Date: 1999-10-21
Balance and harmony. These words for me epitomize the philosophy of Dr. Corsello. She has devoted her much of her life's work to promoting wellness and generously giving others the benefit of her wisdom. This wisdom is available for all of us, if only we choose to take the time to read and listen. Dr. Corsello has succeeded in presenting complex thoughts and ideas in beautifully written and readily accessible prose. Her use of case histories is extremely effective in conveying to her readers the possibilities and joys of healthy living. Dr. Corsello is a genuine healer and a woman who practices what she preaches. She is full of optimism and life-affirming faith and these qualities come through clearly in The Ageless Woman.

A Wake-up Call on the Dangers of Environmental PoisoningReview Date: 1998-01-01
Essential Reading for These TimesReview Date: 2003-04-05
One of the most fascinating parts of this book, which has stuck in my memory for a number of years, is descriptions and interviews with the sickest people alive with MCS. The descriptions of their symptoms and the great lengths they must go to just to try to live their lives is tragic and fascinating and a warning to us all.
Even though you may not know how chemical poisoning is affecting you, it almost certainly is. Sticking our collective heads in the sand will not help us, and will almost certainly allow things to get much worse before they get better. Inform yourself and read this book.
Peter Radetsky has experience writing popular science books, and this one is very readable. He interviews a variety of sick people, scientists, doctors, and psychiatrists with a wide range of opinions on the subject. Though the role of infectious pathogens is fairly well understood these days, the role of toxicity has been almost completely ignored by modern science and allopathic medicine. This topic must blow open, sooner or later. In the meantime, we can inform ourselves and take a tip from the sickest among us. We do not need to wait for mainstream science and medicine to acknowledge or solve problems before we act to protect our own health.
It is too bad this book has apparently not gone to paperback because the subject is so important, and this is such a well-done job on the topic. For little more than the price of postage, you can inform yourself on a topic of great importance that we have only begun to scratch the surface of.
good read for a concerned laypersonReview Date: 2005-02-11
The doctors who were interviewed and quoted don't all agree on every aspect of the syndrome, which makes their opinions seem more authentic. Some of them have outright antipathy, not just disagreement, over specific points regarding MCS; however, it seemed to me that they all agree that the specialty of allergies (and MCS) is inexact, almost as much art as science. Some of the avant-garde treatments I read about seem fairly dubious, but the results are apparently well-documented. Although relatively few scientific studies have been done, they seemed appropriate and meaningful to me.
This book is neither anti-industry nor "chicken little" in tone, but it certainly added fuel to my back-to-basics, organic-gardening, anti-industry fire. The facts (some statistics) and opinions (from informed health professionals) presented herein constitute a firm, but rational, warning that we may have opened a chemical Pandora's box when we jumped on the industrial bandwagon. The rising incidence of many chronic diseases (cancer, asthma, ulcers, you name it) may be due only to the fact that those people didn't get felled first by typhoid, malaria, or saber-toothed tigers, but I'm still concerned, and I don't think the coincidence of higher cancer rates and widespread use of industrial chemicals is due to chance. This book doesn't spend many pages addressing solutions; it is aimed at illuminating the source of the problem. I'd recommend it, without reservation, to other laypersons who want to expand their understanding, especially to school kids doing research on industrial chemicals or allergies.
