This book would make a great little gift for the yoga lovers in your life. Each chapter is short and readable in mere minutes. Yet, each chapter is insightful and will give you something to think about. Beautiful too. Highly recommended!

Julie Rappaport has compiled a book that is chock full of insights and revelations. Even though there are the expected gems from such classic yoga texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga Sutras, Rappaport has also included tidbits from modern yoga masters such as Erich Schiffman. But that's not all! There are descriptions of poses, quotations from Jung and other philosophers, poetry and Rappaport's own musings on yoga.

You may decide to go through this book, a quote a day - or just pick one at random. It is a book that any yoga pracitioner will turn to time and time again. I love it!

I have found Julie Rappaport's book 365 Yoga: Daily Meditations to be an insightful look into the world of yoga. This book steps beyond the usual yoga pose instruction into the deeper meanings and questions that face a modern practioner of yoga. As a yoga teacher, I find the quotes helpful sometimes for my own practice and at other times to read aloud in class.

This book is a great inspiration and resource for yoga practitioners. I enjoyed randomly opening up to a section, then using what I read to help inspire my practice. It also works well as a one-a-day reading. Highly recommended for yoga practitioners and those seeking to ground their physical practice in the spiritual and poetic.

As a student new to yoga, I found this book fantastically helpful. I really enjoyed the quotations which I thought well chosen and a good introduction to the philosophy behind the exercises. The book is well laid out and easily digestible, something important to me as a beginner and I was impressed by the author's own writings and her obvious love for her subject. I'm sure this book will appeal to both newcomer and old hand, I thought it a wonderful read and it has certainly inspired me to look deeper into the practice.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was devastated. A friend, a 10 year breast cancer survivor, brought this book to me. I wrapped it in a paper book cover because I didn't want anyone to know I had cancer. I read the book and it changed my life. I took most of the 50 suggestions to heart and I am a survivor. I highly recommend this book for all people who have a diagnisis of cancer.

I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage 3+ and given 6 months to live. That was five years ago. My daughter, a nurse, bought both of these books for me which I read with voracity. I also turned to prayer and positive thinking. I am still here, doing fine and trying to instill hope in others.

Truly an essential for those wishing to out-live cancer.

Greg Anderson shows a proven plan, based on the actions taken by hundreds of cancer survivors, for recovering from the devastation--and the cancer! From gaining the vital understanding that having cancer does not automatically mean dying (no matter WHAT the doctor said!) and knowing the difference between statistics and you, to taking effective charge of your conventional medical treatment, to harnessing exercise, diet, meditation and the joy of living to effect your healing, "50 Essentials" is a practical manual for living a great life and fighting to become cancer-free.

Of all the books I bought or was given after my diagnosis, this is the one that I connected with. It is written in a language anyone can understand. It is not frightening rather, empowering. I can't believe that I am now ordering my 12th, 13th, and 14th copies because sadly, I give them as gifts when someone I know is diagnosed. Too many - but Thank God we have Greg!

My cancer happened so fast and before I knew it, I had a lung removed. After I came out of the hospital, I bought this book and it has really helped me in dealing with the stages of the disease. I highly recommend it to anyone who learns they have cancer and/or any friend, relative, spouse etc., of someone who does. It will help in their journey to survival. Buy this and read it as soon as you know of the cancer and read it again and set up the wellness journal.. It will help...I guarantee it...

Why I wrote this book
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-08
I hope this book finds its way into your hands if you are struggling with your diabetes or just need a boost now and then. This book introduces a new approach to diabetes management - it coaches you to improve your management through using your own positive emotions. I know the power of this approach from my own personal experience and coaching others. I wrote this book because I wish you to have the life that you deserve, fun, full and rich, even with diabetes, and I know that you can. From each book sold a significant contribution will be donated to Diabetes Research Institute, a world-leading cure-focused institute seeking a cure for diabetes. That is why this book costs what it does.

I have learned a lot through the years about how to manage my diabetes: what to eat, the importance of exercise, carb-counting, checking my blood sugars, but that all felt like work. Lots of work. Today I still do these things of course, but I do them with a profoundly different attitude; rather than seeing them as work I focus on what they give me - energy, strength, good health, the rewards of how brave and powerful I am and pride in meeting the demands of diabetes, face-to-face day after day, joyfully.

I have learned to be patient, kind and forgiving with myself and manage my diabetes from a place of love, courage, kindness and appreciation for all my blessings. By focusing on these emotions, they grow in your life and you end up infusing your day with greater happiness. When the quality of your day changes, your life changes.

I wrote this book for my fellow diabetics and for health care providers, so that they will better understand, coach and counsel patients. Here are some comments from diabetes educators who have read the book, "It was magical to read "The ABCs," it brought tears to my eyes so many times! I will be recommending this book to so many of my patients with diabetes - young, old, parents and fellow professionals." Another, "What a delightful book. I enjoyed all of it and found gems of insight, observation and wisdom for people to consider, savor, and act on. Reading this book is a bit like taking small, regular doses of healing and inspiration." And finally, "At my work I see mostly type 2 patients. When they hear their diagnose I give them education about lifestyle, medication, teach them to control their blood sugar and to inject insulin. We also talk about the emotional side of diabetes, but now that I am reading your book I know it is not as much as it should be. Diabetes is much more than the blood sugars, blood pressures and weight control. My colleagues also want to read your book. I hope we will all use your vision and tools to help our patients."

These words are my gift. I hope you give yourself the gift of better management through your own positive emotions as this book will coach you to do. I wrote this book so that you can live happier and healthier - and create the life you want - not despite diabetes, but because of diabetes. That's my wish for you.

A Warm and engaging reminder to love yourself, not hate the disease.

Often times those of us with diabetes follow the rules of good diabetes care all the while gritting our teeth. We often put managing the disease before "loving" ourselves and become angry, stressed, and a real pain to others and to ourselves. Riva's book reminds us that we came first and that managing this disease should not crowd out the joy of living. Her warm and inviting illustrations bring a smile to the face and joy to the heart. Thank you, Riva

hermans technical explanation of how acids and akaline properties are defined is very concise. however there is an unscientific bias throughout the book that is presented as fact. had his beliefs been presented as beliefs rather then facts i would have given this terrific book 5 stars. this book contains a considerable amount of vital information and is more then worth the ... cover.

This is a book I found in a healthstore library. Very simply written, concise and clear about the need to keep an alkaline (not acid) base in our body. This is a matter of serious import, and I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who truly cares about good health.

This book contains very important information about how to balance one's internal body chemistry which is the key to health.

His quadrant chart of a balanced meal is excellent. I have been following it and advising others about it for almost twenty years.

Aihara alludes to and I also explain to people how their external diet--over 125 possible household problems--has an even greater impact on one's health and affects internal body chemistry.

Great primer for acid and alkaline forming foods

This book is a very important one, and very well done. I had to study it a little harder than some people, as I am not very chemically inclined. But with study it was graspable, and what is learned here is extremely important. The reason he goes into the detail he does, is because he is not giving you a list of foods to eat. He is teaching you how to choose foods for yourself. I think this is very important for anyone (especially) who is doing macrobiotics. It really explains what your doing, instead of just saying it's yin or yang. Once you learn the principles in this book, it is also easy to apply it to other diets you may find. You want to make sure that you have alkaline forming foods in your body, and this book teaches you how! Some things in the book are his opinion, and he tells you that. There are many "I think" sentences in this book. I think he's done a wonderful job and a great service with this book, and heartily recommend it.

a must-read for those interested in the macrobiotic diet

First off, i am neither a chemist nor a nutritionist: i actually have almost no background in either except for high school chem class-- and i only just became interested in eating healthy, let alone consciously-- and i'm finding this book is not only the most accessible chemistry book i've ever read, but is also the most clear explanation of what exactly is going on with the macrobiotic diet.
Unlike alot of the other books explaining the principles of macro and the acid-alkaline balance, this is largely a scientific explanation of exactly what are the chemical reactions *causing* the different foods we eat to have various effects on us, rather than simply instructions on how much of what to eat per day etc. For me personally, i like to go in to any program informed; and for a while i cringed at the idea of having to go heavilly into chemistry to know what the macro nutritionists are really talking about-- but i would definatelly push this as an excellent introduction: concise, elegant, comprehensive and suprisingly accessible. I might even suggest this book to someone just starting out learning chemistry of any sort; i wish i had had this book around when i was first learning the subject :) . Aihara is good at raising interest in the subject, and also at building up to it: framing the entire discussion in terms of where cells first took on all the traits they still have: in the ocean water where they evolved. It's a great way to introduce the subject and at a slender 177 pages of text, a good place to get your bearings or, if you like, just a good read.

ME HE SOSTENIDO Cinco meses con mi peso ideal...

down-to-earth approach on how to deal with a wide variety of side effects
including lack of energy, loss of appetite, and many others. She offers

Best book ever on Women's health

Like a different reviewer here on Amazon, I too have probably read over 100 books on nutrition, women's health, natural healing, anti-aging, etc. Such books are my passion and how this one escaped me for so many years is a mystery because it is hands-down the best, most comprehensive book on women's health I've EVER read. Even now, 6 years after its publication, I'm amazed at how ahead of her time Dr. Corsello was when she wrote this, and how true all of her advice still is. Following her advice, I've lost weight, gotten rid of my adult acne, and have much more energy than I've ever had. I'm helping other women in my family too - teeagers to post-menopausal. After finding a link to the book from Dr. Mark Hyman's website (author of Ultra-Metabolism, which is also a great book), I was disappointed to find that new copies are selling on Amazon for a staggering $100-$300. Copies are rare but even at over $100 the book is worth every penny. Highly recommended for those women who are already health savvy and who are looking for the details that tie the complete health and beauty picture together.

Clearly written, truly holistic, zeros in on esentials

I have read more than 100 books on health-care and the new, emerging, holistic medical paradigm and I have also written a few books on the same subject but I have never found a book that is clearer, truly holistic, and that zeros into what is truly essential than The Ageless Woman by Serafina Corsello, M.D.

This book provides an incredible wealth of theoretical information as well as practical applications that both the health-professional and the lay person can apply and benefit from.

Dr. Corsello has a real "gift" for writing and an "encyclopedic knowledge", both at the "horizontal ((quantitative, scientific) level and at the "vertical" (qualitative, intuitive) level. Thus I am convinced that this work and others that will come, together with her lectures, workshops, and courses will be able to help great many people, both at the national and at the international level, at a time when this type of knowledge is becoming increasingly more important and sought.

The new, emerging medicine will not only be scientific and spiritual but also pedagogical and moral, preventive and therapeutic; it will have to address itself to the whole of human nature and not only to some of its parts and will include the emotional-artistic dimension which has been greatly neglected.

In conclusion, The Ageless Woman is truly a pivotal book whose time has come and which I would greatly recommend to professional and lay persons.

This book "puts it all together". Serafina Corsello sums up in one book what I have spent a lifetime discovering. And that is, "Your body has been engineered to heal itself and to keep itself optimally healthy. It knows how to do it. Help it along." Serafina Corsello tells you just how you can do that.

I have tried her remedies for my particular ailments and they work! Thank you Serafina. There is so much packed into this book that I have read it four times and keep referring back to it. It is a great read. Serafina Corsello is on to something here.

This book is not just about turning back the clock (The Ageless Woman) or looking young all of your life, although Serafina Corsello states that it is one of the benefits of following her recommendations. She is 66 years old and looks 46. This book is about taking charge of your life, controlling your destiny, finding the power within you.

I have struggled with various health issues for many years but not one doctor gave me logical answers as to why I was having them. Dr. Serafina Corsello's book draws many bridges over the gaps that mainstream medicine finds unfathomable. She gives you straight forward answers to concrete health problems. However, the books brilliancy is in its ability to show the connection between seemigly unrelated health issues and their resulting cummulative effect on what mainstream medicine defines as full blown illness. Weather you want to find advice for yourself or discover what kind of medicine possesses the power to heal this book is the most comprehensive introduction into the wonderful world of healing drawing from cutting edge medical discoveries, ancient understanding of wholeness and sheer joy of life.

A book of balance and harmony

Review Date: 1999-10-21
As I read through this beautifully designed book, it was as if the author was speaking directly to me. Despite the title, this book is most definitely not for women only. There is a tremendous amount to be learned by all of us, male or female. The connection between mind and body, which The Ageless Woman so eloquently makes, transcends gender. The medical and spiritual wisdom embodied in this book is the result of decades of intense clinical practice and personal interactions with countless patients. In this age of increasing globalization and seemingly endless possibilities for either destroying or restoring our health, Dr. Corsello wisely cautions to stop for a moment and ponder the paths that we have taken, for good health is truly more than just good nutrition. The importance of taking care of the mind, spirit, and body is emphasized throughout the book and it is in this balance that true harmony should be sought.

Balance and harmony. These words for me epitomize the philosophy of Dr. Corsello. She has devoted her much of her life's work to promoting wellness and generously giving others the benefit of her wisdom. This wisdom is available for all of us, if only we choose to take the time to read and listen. Dr. Corsello has succeeded in presenting complex thoughts and ideas in beautifully written and readily accessible prose. Her use of case histories is extremely effective in conveying to her readers the possibilities and joys of healthy living. Dr. Corsello is a genuine healer and a woman who practices what she preaches. She is full of optimism and life-affirming faith and these qualities come through clearly in The Ageless Woman.

A Wake-up Call on the Dangers of Environmental Poisoning

The author presents well-documented material on a very current controversial subject which is affecting l5% of the population severely, and many more in lesser degrees; creating debillitating illness in productive members of society, causing them to become disabled and unemployed. The tragedy of the message is poignantly spelled out by the author, revealing the AMA's denial of the diagnosis of MCS, which contributes to the distress of patients who must suffer through contempt and lack of care by medical doctors who are influenced by economic dictates and refuse to treat the complex patient. This book is a blessing for MCS sufferers, since it offers hope that it will alert proper politicians and governmental officials to address this issue properly, offer medical care to the Veterans of the Gulf War Syndrome, and implement legislation to prevent further chemical poisoning in our public indoor environment. I highly recommend this book for everyone, to instill awareness of the dangers of chemicals in our environment. This is a very thorough documentation on the subject of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

It's a shame this indispensable book has gone out of print because it is one of the best I have read on the subject. Environmental allergies, Sick Building Syndrome, Gulf War Syndrome, or Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is the subject at hand, and I think it one of the most important subjects of our time. MCS, despite some doctor's insistence that it does not exist, affects every living thing on Earth. An estimated 40 million Americans already show clear and obvious signs of this illness. The rest of us are undoubtedly affected in less obvious ways. We cannot afford to ignore this problem.

One of the most fascinating parts of this book, which has stuck in my memory for a number of years, is descriptions and interviews with the sickest people alive with MCS. The descriptions of their symptoms and the great lengths they must go to just to try to live their lives is tragic and fascinating and a warning to us all.

Even though you may not know how chemical poisoning is affecting you, it almost certainly is. Sticking our collective heads in the sand will not help us, and will almost certainly allow things to get much worse before they get better. Inform yourself and read this book.

Peter Radetsky has experience writing popular science books, and this one is very readable. He interviews a variety of sick people, scientists, doctors, and psychiatrists with a wide range of opinions on the subject. Though the role of infectious pathogens is fairly well understood these days, the role of toxicity has been almost completely ignored by modern science and allopathic medicine. This topic must blow open, sooner or later. In the meantime, we can inform ourselves and take a tip from the sickest among us. We do not need to wait for mainstream science and medicine to acknowledge or solve problems before we act to protect our own health.

It is too bad this book has apparently not gone to paperback because the subject is so important, and this is such a well-done job on the topic. For little more than the price of postage, you can inform yourself on a topic of great importance that we have only begun to scratch the surface of.

good read for a concerned layperson

5 stars because I couldn't think of an improvement I'd want to make. It's well-written for the understanding of non-health-professionals (I'm one) and seemed like a very comprehensive (for the time, given that recognition of MCS is in its infancy) overview of what appears to be the tip of an iceberg. Rationally, I believe that multiple chemical sensitivity is real, but I don't personally know anyone who is involved, so I have no basis for bias. This book quoted several individuals who have symptoms of multiple chemical sensitivity, and their accounts of the desperate measures they must take to not feel rotten really opened my eyes to the possible future for the rest of us.

The doctors who were interviewed and quoted don't all agree on every aspect of the syndrome, which makes their opinions seem more authentic. Some of them have outright antipathy, not just disagreement, over specific points regarding MCS; however, it seemed to me that they all agree that the specialty of allergies (and MCS) is inexact, almost as much art as science. Some of the avant-garde treatments I read about seem fairly dubious, but the results are apparently well-documented. Although relatively few scientific studies have been done, they seemed appropriate and meaningful to me.

This book is neither anti-industry nor "chicken little" in tone, but it certainly added fuel to my back-to-basics, organic-gardening, anti-industry fire. The facts (some statistics) and opinions (from informed health professionals) presented herein constitute a firm, but rational, warning that we may have opened a chemical Pandora's box when we jumped on the industrial bandwagon. The rising incidence of many chronic diseases (cancer, asthma, ulcers, you name it) may be due only to the fact that those people didn't get felled first by typhoid, malaria, or saber-toothed tigers, but I'm still concerned, and I don't think the coincidence of higher cancer rates and widespread use of industrial chemicals is due to chance. This book doesn't spend many pages addressing solutions; it is aimed at illuminating the source of the problem. I'd recommend it, without reservation, to other laypersons who want to expand their understanding, especially to school kids doing research on industrial chemicals or allergies.

As someone who has to deal with someone who insists that they have MCS, I found the information quite illuminating. It is truly an interesting book which will make you think of their lives have changed. It really gives a humanizing outlook of someone who has to live in a world where everyone thinks you are crazy.

Very interesting, highly readable!

I'm an allergy researcher and when I came on this excellent book, I sat down and read it cover to cover. Couldn't put it down. The writer is very good, the information new and interesting, and thought provoking. "Sick Building Syndrome" is quite real and affects many people on a daily basis. I am sad to see that this fine piece of work is out of print. If you can find a copy, I highly recommend it. Tom Ogren, author of Allergy-Free Gardening :::: from Ten Speed Press

This is one of my favorite books. I think I have purchased one for every family member. It gives a comprehensive look at conventional medicine, herbal medicine and homeopathy. What is particularly nice is that it gives the pros and cons of each treatment. After just being at my wits end years ago with going to my regular doctor and being prescribed antibiotics for a recurring infection this book gave me the tools to treat the problem and 6 years later I have never had another problem with the infection again. I can't stress enough how helpful this book can be, especially in a day and age when the doctor prescribes so many medications you need additional medications to combat the side effects from one or the other.

It was wonderful, very informative

I like this book because it paints a broad picture: covering traditional medicine and then offering alternatives in homeopathy, herbal and chinese medicine. This is one of the only books I have seen which covers such a broad scope of alternative medicines from different disciplines and countries.

This book is top rate!

I have read this book and would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking into aternatives for modern medicine! This is one of the best herbal remedy books I have read. It gives what modern medicine would do for the problem, then gives many different herbal remedies to try.

Very good resource

This is an excellent resource for everyone. These are simple remedies that actually work. This book is an excellent alternative resource for many common problems. Most Americans are reluctant to try alternative remedies, but the rest of the world has used them with sucess for ages.
