This is definitely a must have book for any family who does herbal medicine- Pagan or not! I was so excited to see the Wheel of the Year described. Each description is in very easy to read language for the children, yet offers valuable information. Plainly put, the author trusts the children's intelligence, and doesn't dumb it down for them. Many simple recipes for remedies and treats are included in the descriptions, as well as lore. My only problem with this book is that there aren't more pictures of each plant in various stages. Some of the pictures offer only a flowering shot of the arial parts. Still, with a parent's help the children will have no problem seeing that they are indeed the plants from the book. The pictures offered are full page beautiful shots. So, it's not really much of a complaint- more of a suggestion in case there are any future editions. :) BUY THIS BOOK!

Kids ages 5-10 and their parents will find Walking The World In Wonder an inviting survey of the medicinal and magical uses of over sixty common herbs. Each herb introduces itself and talks about its uses, with activities reinforcing the lessons on basic herbal skills, along with simple recipes kids can use.

The author begins with some good information on practices of collecting, use and identification, and then proceeds with a nice introduction to the Wheel of the Year complete with the popular festival names (Samhain, Yule, etc.)

My kids (boys, ages 5 and 8) love the full-color illustrations of easy-to-find herbs. This is truly written to be used by a child (though adults will find it enchanting as well) which is exactly what I needed. I have plenty of my own adult versions of herbals and wanted something that my children could call their own and use on their own.

An interesting twist is the organization of the herbs. The herbs are grouped into four seasons, the season they would most commonly be found, and the chapters begin with Autumn, the start of the Wheel of the Year. Living in Florida, we are less likely to be finding that exactly useful; but we do enjoy seeing how they are usually found in the more northern areas of the nation and will enjoy that feature on our travels to visit family.

I got this book to help my 4 year old son understand why we poop. We're having some battles over potty training, and I wanted him to know the whole process, in hopes that he would have less anxiety about pooping on the potty. He understands digestion now, and we talk about it frequently, but alas, no pooping on the potty!

This book is about a diner cook who loves to eat healthy food and we find out what happens to that food in this well written and illustrated book by Paul Showers and Edward Miller. There are little experiments and up close photos of digestive organs which can delightfully gross out your child while one reads and learns about this important system of the body.

My 4 year old daughter wants to be a doctor when she grows up so I am always on the look out for books about the body. I love all of the "Let's-Read-And-Find-Out Science" books and they have several very good books available regarding how the body works.

A wonderful book!

be helpful long-term.

This is the type of book on diabetes
you will want to keep on your book shelf or
bedside table and refer to for many years.

It is also an excellant book for those
who do not suffer from diabetes, but who have friends or family who do,
and want to learn more about the disease for themselves.

This is an excellent book for diabetics, no matter what type. Gives hints to control diabetes, importance of testing, controlling stress, things to look out for, complications. Dr. Juliano writes a compelling book on the disease and give pointers on how to live a normal, healthy life, without complications. I am diabetic, and highly recommend this book. I hope too, that Dr. Juliano re-issues this book. It is a keeper.

An endocrinologist and research scientist and juvenile-onset diabetic for (more than) thirty years, blind as a result of the disease, Joseph Juliano knows what he is talking about. Denial, he writes, is common. There's no cure for diabetes now and it is folly to pretend that diabetes will have not effect on the diabetic's life. His strength is getting the diabetic involved in managing the disease and living with it. This he accomplishes with authority and sensitivity.

Dimensions in time flutter and waiver,
to the majestic sympathic algorythyms of reality.
But what of this time
This time of now
This time of you
This time of me
This dimension in time of you and me.
Oh brutal reality oh exquisite fantasies,
Permutations beyond glass rainbows abound.
Cry out to me not softly your dreams.
Thinsil thin glass surrounds a framework of heavy metal
as I look into her soul to witness synchronistic chromatic colors.
Spring forth oh beautiful glass butterly
and as you take on life's blood flow
emerge into the aura and redefine
the colors of rainbows in the dark for him.

This book IS The Biggest Loser. It is exactly what Dr.H taught us. There are no gimmicks here, just common sense, hard work, and consistency. Add up four or five of those 16 oz. I've been curious about the incredible amounts of weight loss on the TV program Biggest Loser. This well written and informative book gives insight into how they do it. Better yet, how you can accomplish the same results at home. Dr. Huizenga writes in a simple, but not condescending fashion and explains it all. I highly recommend it!

This book is great. The author is the doctor on the Biggest Loser.

He is a former athlete himself and worked as the doctor to sports teams. He observed the athletes having problems keeping weight on, no matter what they ate, due to the amount of exercise.

He is the originator of the Biggest Loser plan you see on TV. He was asked to formulate a plan for weight loss. At the time, it was not thought possible to lose as much weight as they do on the show.

His theory is to exercise 1 hour 2 times per day and eat about 1,800 calories. Do not restrict carbs too much or you will lose valuable muscle tissue.

This book is the science of FAT loss. Long term fat loss success.

I love the science of it. We don't need another diet book. Diets do not work.

Read this book to know about the science, not the fad, of fat loss.

I recommend this book to everyone who needs to lose weight. If you wanted to know the secrets of the Biggest Loser show, here they are.

While I am not obese and in fact just got back into the normal weight category, I was intrigued to read the Biggest Loser story. The book is well written and useful for anyone who wants to improve their weight and overall health.

I was a bit surprised that Dr. H's maintenance program includes 9 hours of weekly exercise. I do 5 and thought I was doing enough. But overall, for the obese person to be able to see such dramatic results - exercising at home - is truly inspiring. If you need to take off a lot of weight - read this book and follow his advise. And if you can possibly do so, take a trainer as well.

I have been doing yoga and pilates for almost a year now. I have been fascinating with reading books on the subject of yoga in order to discover more about this art.

Yoga Chick, A Hip Guide to Everything OM is absolutely perfect for anyone who is just discovering yoga and has questions.

First off, the cover of this book really impressed me - I love the concept of thinking of myself as a yoga chick and the bright purple just felt inspiring and uplifting.

The book starts off with a 101 primer of yoga. It briefly explains its beginnings and segways directly into the basics you will need in order to start doing your poses. In the Getting Started section, there are descriptions of some of the more basic poses (with a cute little drawing of the actual pose). I also really enjoyed the yoga poses that can be done directly on your bed - first thing in the morning if you are not in the mood to do a full practice at 5:00 am.

There is a brief look at our various chakras - where they are situated and what they represent. There is also a section on meditation and journaling.

Basically, this book really is a wealth of information for anyone who is just starting out. It is encouraging us to take charge of our health and to encompass healthier habits (including eating habits) with a more spiritual journey.

I loved this book - well researched and covers off any and all subjects remotely related to yoga - it is a bible for those just starting out.

My neice and I LOVED this book. It gave us something to work on together besides arguing about the messy state of her bedroom and how often she gets to drive my car. Besides the poses, which were challenging and fun, we especially loved the section called "Going with the Yoga Flow." We didn't feel overwhelmed, which we sometimes have when looking at some other yoga books. Doing the practices is great "us" time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Peggy Cappy at a women's yoga retreat a few years ago. I wish there were many more teachers like Peggy who understand the needs of people of all ages. Peggy's students range in age from forty to one-hundred. It is refreshing to open her new book and see examples of her students demonstrating that yoga is, indeed, possible for all of us. She makes it clear that you are never "too old", "too over-weight" or "too out of shape" to do yoga. On the contrary--YOU are the very person who can benefit from yoga the most!

Peggy Cappy's safe and gentle approach allows any one of any age and ability to reap yoga's practical benefits in daily life. She presents easier versions of poses for those with physical limitations in a way that builds confidence and encourages you to practice on your own. Thank you Peggy for sharing your love of yoga with all of us!

I've been having infertility issues for almost 6 years and I've purchased several on-topic books during this time. No book covers as much detailed information in as few pages at this one. I read the entire book the night I received it. The authors honestly acknowledge the frustrations accompanying the mysteries of fertility while outlining the proven medical procedures that lead to parenthood. My favorite thing about the book is that it assumes that the reader is an intelligent, resourceful patient who is approaching her infertility with a problem-solving mentality. I wish I had bought this years ago!

I have read many books on infertility. The topic can be overwhelming, just as the treatments can be. (I am in my 3rd round of IVF.) "100 Questions and Answers about Infertility" is by far the best infertility book available. First of all, Dr. Gordon makes you feel "normal" by listing all the questions you have, but might not realize everyone else also has. Then he answers them in a manner that is easy to understand, yet technical enough to help you broaden your understanding of infertility. In addition, they have patients who share their first hand experiences in the book. It's another example of how they make you feel less alone during an unchartered experience. (And yes, despite this being my 3rd round of IVF, there is always something new and scary...but this time I could just open up my book, and better understand what was going on!)
I am truly grateful that Dr. G and D wrote this book. It is the perfect handbook for anyone experiencing the trials and tribulations of infertility.

Infertility FAQs in one neat package

When a couple is suffering through infertility, they have a million questions. Fertility Drs. Gordon and DiMattina attempt to cover the basics in a single, reliable source with 100 Questions & Answers About Infertility.

They start with the basics: What is infertility and what does normal reproduction look like? Then they move on to infertility evaluation and treatments. Next they touch on specific problems such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Tubal Disease, Male Factor, and Endometriosis. They address treatment options, specifically Intrauterine Insemination, In Vitro Fertilization, and Third-Party Reproduction. They also answer questions regarding lifestyle (stress, exercise, etc.) in regard to reproduction, and finally they address pregnancy loss. There is also a plethora of statistical information.

If you find yourself in the throes of infertility and you are lost in the lingo, this book may be a good start. It will answer many clinical and technical questions you may have about your problem and where to start. This book will be especially helpful for those who have the conditions mentioned and those who want details on medical measures. It should also help you decide what steps you want to take in the process. The information seems, in my experience, to be accurate and up to date.

What this book won't do for you is answer the more emotional side of infertility. It won't tell you that taking Clomid might cause you to cry for weeks on end. It won't tell you that you will get pregnant. And it won't have a definitive answer for why you aren't achieving pregnancy when all the testing says there is no reason. 28 Days to Diabetes Control is a great way to learn more about diabetes and get a handle on your own diabetes as well. Lance has illustrated the importance of diabetes and how one should go about dealing with every-day situations. Wheather you are recently diagnosed or someone that has been living with this disease, it is an excellent guide book to gaining better control of your diabetes (Type 1 or 2). I am impressed with the broad range of topics covered throughout the book to help with the success of better diabetes management. If you have not read this book, go out and get a copy. You won't be dissapointed !!

I have Diabetes type II and was lucky enough to get this book, I followed the instructions to the letter, step by step and from the very first week I could tell that it was working.
I felt better physically and mentally, more alert. Slept better, my glucose level was getting better.
When I started the prgram I was taking Glucophage and Avandia, by the 18th day I no longer needed Avandia, my daily blood glucose average was 121 the highest with the 94 the lowest ( when watching my carb intake).

I got to the point that I cut the half the daily dose of Glucophage.
Commitment is the key, reading the book is not enough, you have to decide to DO as the book says.!! Getting into this program is one of the bets things that ever happened to me.

Outstanding!

Lance Porter has put together one of the most useful "self help"

books to come down the pike in a long time. With this book

whether you are a diabetic or someone who knows a diabetic you

will find answers to a lot of questions about the disease and

plenty of ways to help gain control of it! One of the things

Lance does in this book is to remind the reader that maintaining

a postive outlook on things will go a long way to help you

get your life together after the diagnosis of diabetes has

knocked it apart. This book can also be of much help to those

who might be at risk of developing the disease too. Who knows

if you read this book and follow its precepts you might ever be

able to keep yourself from getting diabetes. This book is also

a great way for the people in your life who are trying to

understand what you are living with and going through each day

with diabetes to learn how to help you with it. This book is

a must for all diabetics and those who care about them. I know

because I am on of the many Type 2 Diabetics out there, and this

book has been a " Godsend" to me and mine. Bravo Lance Porter!!!!
