Best Book There is On Supplements

This is the best book there is on nutritional supplements, and well-documented to boot. Buy one for yourself and give one to your doctor and any other health professionals you work with who have not caught on to the real power of nutritional medicine. This healing modality can no longer be tossed aside, as the 100 pages of research summaries in the back of the book show. I teach nutrition to physicians, and if there is one popular press book I insist they all read, this is it. Superb.

What's nice is that she gives you sample recommendations, so you don't end up feeling totally at sea. And you can take what looks like the right amount, not too many pills. Even so, if you are in bad shape, it's likely to be a couple of small handfuls.

It's possible that I am alive because of the earlier edition, after environmentally caused asthma made me really quite ill for a while. But good grief, I hate taking that many pills. And I was fairly smart about buying combinations.

Good Information, but not complete

I purchased this book based on the high reviews that it received. Although it contains a lot of useful information on supplements, there is no mention of food allergies, which is curious, as they can cause malnutrition and discomfort, causing people to purchase books like this in the first place. There is a lot of valuable information in this book, but it does not stand by itself. I'd recommend a book like Dangerous Grains: Why Gluten Cereal Grains May Be Hazardous To Your Health or a recent food allergy book in combination with this book.
As a mis-diagnosed celiac, with autoimmune disease, I found out the hard way that wheat has no place in vitamins or medications.
I have gone on the advice of books like this in the past and if you go to the vitamin store and look at the fancy mega or ultra packs, you'll see that some of the most expensive ones contain wheat, and if you didn't know you were allergic to it, you'd think that you were helping yourself out by buying them. You might even feel better for a week or two, but unless you address the food allergies, you won't sustain it.
So arm yourself with the information in this book, but it is not complete information, and if it is your only source of information, you might not feel as good as you can.

I bought this book based on the stellar reviews on Amazon. I'm very happy with it and refer to it constantly. I particularly like that the doses recommended are above and beyond the RDA, which is the MINIMUM needed for optimal health (the book cover says: RDAs "are designed only to prevent the most obvious deficiency diseases -- they are the 'minimum wages' of nutrition. RDIs are not adequate for anyone looking for optimal health." The book has handy tables for each vitamin and mineral and breaks down the maximum doses for optimal health. It also lists side effects. Turns out most vitamins are not toxic unless taken at levels that most humans really have to try hard to attain. Most side effects are completely reversible by simply not taking the vitamin any longer.

I trust this book over other sources because it has data backed by clinical studies from reputable organizations such as the American Medical Association and New England Journal of Medicine. Fro example, the book says it's okay to take 400-800 IU of vitamin E daily for heart health. I've seen other sources say it's too much -- presumably based on a study that the media jumped all over that said high doses were unsafe, but the study was flawed by several variables as they were not comparing apples to apples. I think when others recommend daily doses, they are referring to the RDA, the "minimum wage" needed, and not the dose needed for optimal health.

There are books galore written on the subject of weight loss, but very few of them ever talk about the even more important subject when it comes to diet: WEIGHT MAINTENANCE! Yeah, you can lose weight on just about any diet out there, but can you keep it off over the long-term? That's what Dr. Barbara Berkeley has been exploring over the past few years and she's come up with twelve "rules to maintain the body you've earned."

Some of them are obvious (weigh everyday, exercise, limit your menu to healthy foods), but others aren't so commonplace (commit to a three-month opt out period from modern foods, eat only foods our ancestors would have consumed, and make sure you have one acceptable treat per day). As someone who has lost 180 pounds in the past and put back on about 30 of those pounds, I found Dr. Berkeley's advice to be extremely helpful. She made me become more aware of areas where I had allowed myself to slip while simultaneously making new suggestions that may point to a pathway back to the success I experienced before.

Whether you are at your weight loss goal yet or not, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this fabulous book from a bariatric physician who truly understands what it takes.

There are many great things about Dr. Barbara Berkeley's newly released book, Refuse to Regain: 12 Tough Rules to Maintain the Body You've Earned.
At the very top of the list, the firm ground on which her book proudly stands is that it eloquently and passionately tells the truth about how to, with necessary determination, maintain our bodies optimally as we make daily decisions about eating our way into life-preserving health.
With great attention to detail, her book offers us clear and necessary physiological and practical information about the damage or the conscious support our bodies experience depending on our daily (and extending to lifelong) nourishment choices. The book's wisdom methodically promotes the most worthy truth that we can either betray or honor our bodies (and health), in part, through our eating style. On a personal note, I have paid far less than optimal attention to, really,(and I am a well-educated woman)the raw fact that so much damage can happen to our bodies, so many life-threatening illnesses develop because we carry excess weight. Dr. Berkeley's book is certainly a must-read for those courageous and determined people who have lost needed pounds to secure their health at least in the weight arena. The book is a true gift to them, as if the weight loss is not maintained (for a lifetime, actually), the short-term gain of health will be quickly reversed as the health-defying pounds return. It is a major intention of this book to guide and support successful dieters in their quest to Refuse to Regain! For those not struggling with weight issues, the book is a most relevant read as well, as it educates all of us about what it means to maintain a healthy lifestyle from a nutritional standpoint. Dr. Berkeley's passionate intention for writing this remarkable book has been to teach us about the gift we can all give ourselves through our understanding of what we must do, through what and how we eat, to strengthen rather than endanger our health. As a highly intelligent and long-term experienced authority on the subject, most simply and humbly stated, in her book Dr. Berkeley has spoken all the truths about weight issues that we must understand and integrate into our daily living in order to maintain or regain healthy bodies that do not buckle under excessive weight. The truths now have an opportunity to be heard.

This book is a true gem for those who want to maintain their weight after dieting as well as for those who want to learn more about the science of why we gain weight and how that weight gain affects our bodies. Dr. Berkeley explains how the body processes what we eat and underscores the dramatic health risks associated with gaining back the weight you lost. In a world focused so much on diets and dieting, it's about time we have an excellent reference to guide us in maintenance. As I read this well written book, I felt support radiating from its pages. It's clear that Dr. Berkeley cares passionately about her readers and their successes. From that passion, she gives us powerful tools to insure we don't regain!

Barbara Berkeley has written a fantastic book that pulls together a wealth of weight loss and maintenance information gleaned from her experience, education, and research. Don't be intimidated by her degrees. This book is easy to understand and adapt to your situation.

I consider 'Refuse to Regain' a must-have reference book for anyone who has lost weight or is even thinking about losing weight. For the maintainer, it is a "booster shot" loaded with tips, encouragement, and up-to-date facts about how your newly trim body works now. For those still grappling with losing that first 5 pounds, this book provides a road map of the mental and physical challenges you will encounter. I believe adopting the principles in this book will increase your chances of successfully maintaining a weight loss, no matter where you are in the process.

I have maintained a 90 pound weight loss for over a year - using many of the 12 Rules. After reading 'Refuse to Regain' last week, I adopted the 90% Primarian Rule and have lost another 2 pounds!

I had a patient with chronic hypertension. I thought he might benefit from the rice diet but I had no information on it. Then at a used book sale, I ran into this book for a quarter. I bought, brought it home and read it. Judy's story and writing was so engaging, I decided to try it. I was overweight and that made it all the more an attractive idea. Within a few days, I was blown away by the diet. The first time I cheated
on the diet, I was repaid with an extremely severe reaction.
I learned more from this book and the advice in it than I ever learned in school. I am not knocking school. If I hadn't gone to school, I might not have heard of the diet. The diet is a discipline unto itself. What Judy provides is the motivational spirit to stick with the program. Her energy pours off every page. I went from weighing 230 down to 165 on the diet. Since that time, I have gained some back as expected. What I know now is that I can keep my weight under control and still eat what I want once in awhile without any concern. I feel I owe a debt to both Walter Kempner and Judy Moscowitz for guiding me toward a truly healthy relationship to food.

The Rice Diet Report came just in time. I was sitting on a lounge chair when it collapsed under my immense weight. Two weeks later I was in Durham on the Rice Diet. I had bought Judy's book months before, but it took that ephipany of falling through that chair to get me to Durham. In Durham, I lose a hundred pounds and found a culture. I also found a career documenting diet culture. Thanks Judy, always thanks.

I bought this book new over 15 years ago.The title
intrigued me.I am normally quite fit, work out 3-4 days a
week and eat right. However, back then, I returned
to college part-time,had a stressful job and a
difficult personal relationship.I gained 30 lbs in less than seven years.
This diet was easy to follow, had realistic results, and
gave me back my energy.I didn't lose all 30 lbs just from
the diet, but it helped to kick start me back into my earlier, healthy lifestyle.
Oh,and I got the degree,found a more rewarding
and less stressul job,and left the difficult man..
My paperback is quite yellowed, but cherished.I return to it regularly.
I'm currently back on the diet to lose 10 lbs
I gained this summer from traveling and getting
off my normal fitness/meal routine.
I know I'll get back on track!

I tried the Rice diet after trying everything else. I tried breathing exercises, aerobics, tae-bo, soup diets, every fad diet listed on the web, the hollywood diet, grapefruit diet, mayo clinic, great american and the list goes on. I never received the results promised. I discovered this book and thought I'd give it a try as well. I bought a 2.50 box of rice, and about $10 worth of canned and fresh fruit for the week. I started at 168 lbs on Wed and was down to 163 by Sat. After that I have just been eating "normal" foods (according to the book) and have maintained for two weeks. With other diets, I gained the weight back within a couple of days of returning to regular foods. I plan to start again today to remove 10-15 more pds. I was tired of the bland rice after four days but I did not have to stop, I could have moved to phase II and continued. However, I wanted to see if I could maintain once lost and YES I CAN!!!!! I know that I can lose this weight on the rice diet and if it starts to come back I now know how to get it off for good. With God's help, I'm determined to go all the way.

What is not to like about this book, if you are ready for its instruction? The writing is so descriptive and specific, and yet very readable. It is though the gentleman is speaking to the reader personally.
And it is not a 'read once and put it down' type of a book. It is for continuous guidance and instruction as you pace yourself and make the practice your own. And speaking of practice, for me, the results were almost immediate, and more than what I expected. I thought it would take 'forever' to see something in the outer world. But I am more at peace. My home life is more at peace. Issues I cannot physically resolve are miraculously transforming themselves. That is not an accident, or coincidence. That is stillness in action! So, go at your own pace, make it light, make it fun and your spirit will be more willing to follow along. At least in my opinion.

The best on this subject I've read - a keeper

This is powerful and awesome stuff, which is why Yogani really stresses self-pacing here. I highly recommend that you read Yogani's Samyama book. But I also recommend, as does he, that you do not do Samyama until you have your meditation practice firmly established.

I've read that Samyama can lead to the development of siddhis and the appearance of miracles, but that isn't why we practice it. We practice samyama to manifest what we wish to attract into our lives---the law of attraction. We practice samyama so that the Divine pervades every aspect of our daily life.

Through this book, I learned that Samyama also has expanded applications that can be added after you are steady in that practice. Among them are:
* samyama in prayer
* samyama in asanas
* cosmic samyama

Here's a quote from Yogani's book-- "Surrenduring to the Divine is the essential operating principle in prayer." In using this principle we can use samyama as prayer, reducing the object of our prayer into a concise sutra, releasing our sutra to our inner stillness, to be manifested on the outside.

You may create any prayer sutra you wish. You may use the samyama prayer to dissolve obstructions, remove impurities or increase positive qualities. You may use them on an individual or a global scale.

I was using samyama as prayer before reading about it. It seemed a natural progression after some time doing samyama. And to the question of whether or not it works, all I can say is that my experience with it has been positive.

All of Yogani's books are good, but this book will leave you in wonder of what we could accomplish for the good, with these practices. And it will fill you with desire to continue on the path.

I really enjoyed Yogani's book "Samyama - Cultivating Stillness in Action, Siddhis and Miracles", I think it is an excellent read and essential for anyone on the path who is dedicated to liberating themselves.

This was my favourite of Yogani's "Enlightenment Series Books" as it goes far more extensively into material and methods pertaining to the practice of Samyama than has been published before by Yogani or any other spiritual teacher (to my knowledge) on the subject.

Like all of Yogani's writings, it is well written, clear and easy to understand. I finished it within a few days and it has deepened my meditative practices considerably. The "Cosmic Samyama" practice has been a boon for me and has accelerated my inner expansion in profound ways.

In this book Yogani explains in detail the technique used throughout the ages by Yogic Masters to perform Siddhis or miracles. This is a fascinating book that is a treasure to read. Nowhere else will you find the level of detail and understanding of this ancient yogic method revealed in written form. This book is a must read for anyone treading the path to self mastery.

Profound coverage of Samyama Yoga!
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-23
Yogani's most recent book "Samyama - Stillness in Action, Siddhis and Miracles" has the most thorough coverage of this ancient Yoga technique that I have found. It can be practiced successfully with just a slight emergence of inner silence, which is cultivated by deep meditation, described in an earlier book of his popular Enlightenment Series. The time one needs to set aside daily is very minor, only about 10 minutes or less, and could therefore fit into anybody's schedule.

Samyama could be seen as a crystallization in the outer world of the practitioner of the inner stability and harmony gained through meditation. The implications of this process are huge, even if one only sees it as one's life coming into more order, but often people talk about miracles happening in their lives as well. Yogani doesn't stop, however, with just describing the technique itself, how to practice it and how it works. Another very important aspect of Samyama, as with all Yoga practice, is the science of self-pacing. He teaches us in detail how to moderate our practice to avoid getting too much too soon, which could be overwhelming.

Considering the small size of the book (only about 100 pages), it goes even further however, to go into Samyama and its relation to the rise of the Active Witness, Yoga Nidra, Asanas (yoga postures), the Samyama Sutras of Patanjali, relationship of inner silence and ecstasy, and finally Enlightenment. I would much recommend it!

I ordered the book about a year an a half ago. Prior to receiving the book, I had been diagnosed with colitis, which I had been suffering from for about a year, which included bleeding, pain diarrhea and interrupted sleep. The medication prescribed worked initially, but ceased to work after the next flare-up, 2 months later. I followed the diet for about a week, at which time my symptoms subsided. I've been normal ever since. I can't say that I've followed the diet whole-heartedly. I eat what would be considered a "normal" diet by most, with the incorporation of the diet plan outlined in the book, which includes a lot of fresh fruits and vegatables. I can honestly say that I haven't had any indication of a flare-up. Some might say that I'm in remission, but from everything I've read, most people only stay in remission up to a year with medication only. I believe the information David shares has saved me from an incredible amount of physical and emotional pain. He does a fantastic job of explaining the cause and the cure in a simple to understand manner. At one time, I looked at eating raw fruits and vegetables as a chore. I now see them as pleasurable medicine for my body. I know that it's added years to my life. I realize that I might be the exception to the rule as far as the short length of time my body took to heal, but I'm sure that I would still be suffering if I hadn't gotten this book. I am now gradually transitioning to a vegan lifestyle. I tell everyone about your book.

Thank you David Klein for writing this book

My son Byron (17 year old diagnosed with Crohns June 2006) has just confided in me that this time last year he wanted to commit suicide. At that time he was confined to bed with painful fissures (anal tears), mouth ulcers, stomach cramps, diarrhoea and bowel incontinence, hot & cold sweats and a host of other miserable complaints. He had already endured months of illness and hospitalization and despite drug treatments was no better. The doctors had abandoned us for an extended Xmas/New Year break and an increase in Prednisone dose did nothing to ease symptoms. Then your Self Healing Colitis & Crohn's book arrived. We started the diet straight away and in 3 days the pain from the fissures was gone and he was up and moving around.

David, we have since proved every single word of your book to be true. Byron's recovery went exactly as you described it would. We followed the steps carefully, reducing drugs as we went, we made mistakes but corrected them within 3 days of returning to the diet and we pressed on. We know your work has saved Byron from a life of hell. Today, one year after receiving your book, he is entirely drug free and has been for 5 months. He is 62kg (up from 45kg at diagnosis). He is an active young man looking and feeling great and as a fabulous sidekick benefit, now has a really cool Vegan girlfriend. He lives by the diet and finds it easy, we spend less on good food than we did on the SAD diet and we now spend absolutely nothing on drugs, supplements or consultations. The doctor called Byron's excellent condition "clinical remission", which we confidently told him will last for around 75 years!!!!! Byron and I believe you have provided us with the "cure". Treatments in the 6 months prior to receiving your book cost around AUS$15,000. Your regimen was the cost of the book and one consult fee to meet you (a meeting I am eternally grateful for and was pre-ordained after a surprise opportunity to travel to California last year). We owe you so much and we thank you so much. Please add our story to your list of successes. I am happy to have my email address posted on your site as a contact for those still reading your "Are You Skeptical" link and would be pleased to share our story and discuss.

I ordered this book for my mother who has been suffering from colitis for 25 years. She is able to really apply the diet and advice in this book to her daily lifestyle. I have been a vegan for years and it has been hard to get her to stay consistent with any advice I have given her regarding her condition. This book is literally a life saver. It has given her an alternative to having her intestine removed. I even ordered a second book to give to someone who may be interested in an alternative to conventional medicine for this type of condition.

We are a grain milling family. We mill our grains and make all baked goods using freshly milled grains. I was looking for a book that would help me to mill and bake low fat, high fiber type foods for weight loss. I have always believed that Low carb dieting is not realistic, nor is it livable as a lifestyle for us. However, the desire to lose weight automatically makes me think I have to "go without" the living, vitamin filled baked goods I make for my family.
This book is so full of great recipes, especially heart healthy breads and baked goods, which is what my family thrives on! This is all stuff I can eat and still lose weight. This is a great resource as a whole grain "cookbook" or for someone like me, who is looking to trim down a bit and yet still eat freshly milled whole grains.

This is the only cookbook in 30+ years of cooking that I have literally used to death. I am online today buying my second copy of "Set for Life" It's interresting to note that this book has been in print for almost 20 years, but the fitness principles - don't diet! Exercise regularly! Cut fats and sugars! - still apply today! Jane Merrill not only explains the proper nutritional guidelines, she shows with her great recipes that eating right can be a breeze! The whole wheat breads are all delicious and easy. The blender pancakes have been a staple and we love the alternative pancake syrups, sauces and toppings. Taco soup has also become a regular at our house! There are not very many seafood recipes, but in Idaho, we don't see a lot of seafood. Many of the recipes reflect a western background (Ranchero beans, sloppy joes, and many uses for Idaho potatoes!) If you want a taste of down-home cooking, I highly recommend this book.

If you are looking for healthy recipes for everyday items that many people eat often, this is the cookbook for you.
If you want the best homemade bread recipe ever, this book's Set-Point bread recipe is the one for you.
If you are looking for a healthier way to make favorite desserts, this book is for you.
If you are looking for realistic, functional alternatives and substitutes that will help you be healthier, this is the book for you.
In addition to good recipes, this book also contains suggestions for lifestyle changes and a schedule and set of lists to jumpstart those changes.
This is not an Italian cookbook, or a French cookbook. The majority of the recipes truly are for more everyday things, like basic entrees, baked goods, desserts, breakfasts and such.
A very useful addition to the person or family that is wanting to make healthy changes in their eating habits and even lifestyle.

I had Jane Merrill sign this book for me when I bought it in 1990 and it's one I use often. Great nutrition advice as well as wonderful recipes. I have found her whole wheat bread recipes and tips especially helpful. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle!

A book about living

This is not a book about dieting. It is a book about living. It is a realistic, timeless approach to exercise and eating. Fads come and go, set-for-life will stand the test of time. The recipes, though whole grained based, are very mainstream and easy to make. Unless I want to grind my own wheat (which is actually a lot of fun), I can purchase most the ingrediants at a normal grocery store. I have also learned to quickly recognize recipes from other sources that adhere to the set-point lifestyle, or that can easily be adjusted. The chapter on breads, rolls and muffins has literally changed my life. I did not grow up with fresh home-made bread. My kids will. The authors teach you step-by-step how to make large batches so that you can freeze some of the dough. The frozen dough is so easy to pull out of the freezer and bake. I believe if people only realized how delicious bread could be, and how enjoyable it is to make, all those wimpy grocery store bread companies would be out of business. By adhering to the guidlines set forth in this book, I have sacrificed nothing and gained much. Thank you Jane Merrill and Karen Sunderland for sharing your wisdom and recipes in this book.

This book is better than any beauty magazine! I have tried to get this kind of stuff from Teen People and Teen, but Seventeen's How to Be Gorgeous is truly packed with good information. I used to be totally in the dark, now I feel very makeup-wise. However, it tends to be a little too much -- it seems like it limits everything. All of a sudden, I can't do anything that I used to do that I sort of liked. My lip gloss is fine and I've had it for seven months! Then they told me I had to trash it. I like it and I'm not breaking out! So it's a little prissy in that way. But it's still so awesome and cool and I love it!!

This by far, was an amazing SIDS book. It's been almost a year since we lost Jacob to SIDS, and I still go back and re-read the book. It's so hard to find people that could relate to your SIDS loss, and this book is full of them. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this book.

I've been through this loss. Chances are, if you're searching for this book, you have just experienced your own loss. READ this book.

Horchler and Rice give comfort, encouragement, and insight to the issues that surround Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Infant Death. Families who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby will find many questions they may have answered among the pages. The topics covered bring a sense of normalcy and healing to the bereaved as the authors guide the reader down the path of surviving their loss and again finding joy in living.

The SIDS Survival Guide was my beacon of light during the darkest part of my life. My son, Dominic, passed away from SIDS on April 10, 2001, at only 4 1/2 months young. I began to reach out and search for all the information I could find on SIDS, drinking it all in by the bucket. A few months after he died, I found "The SIDS Survival Guide", and am so incredibly thankful. There was so much information, so many stories so like my own. I shed many tears while reading it for the first time, and even now, when I go back to read sections, I still cry. I am now expecting our second child in June 2002, and am scared to death. But knowing that I am informed about SIDS is somewhat of a comfort to me; in a way, I am as prepared as I can ever be. I would recommend this book to anyone expecting a child, who has a young baby, or knows someone who is or does.

My husband and I lost our son to SIDS in September of 2000. Our souls have been torn. The grieving process over his death has been draining. I recall little over the past 4+ months since his death. The one thing I do recall is thinking I was going crazy. I had wished their was another SIDS survivor I could speak with. Someone who could possibly relate to what my husband and I were going through. Someone who could understand our emotions. I searched under the keyword SIDS and found this book. I have not read the book in its entirety. I have read the sections I have needed at the particular times in my grieving. This book has helped me confirm that I am not going crazy. What I am feeling, though very personal, is normal. I feel this book is a neccesity for any parent who has to suffer this terrible tragedy. I have placed an order of these books in my babies memory to send to my state SIDS Coordinator in hopes that other parents may find comfort in its contents. Thank you Joani and Robin.

Dr. Schmidt did a great job writing this book and I highly recommend it to people who have mood/behavior problems, or parents whose kids are on Ritalin, have ADD, ADHD, or petit mal siezures. Excellent info for nutritionists too who are interesting in learning the details.

I would recommend looking into more of Dr. Schmidt's books; they are all good!

Smart Fats is a valuable book. It has detailed information about the fat content of many different foods. Plus, there are good diagrams that will help you understand the structure and function of fatty acids.

You'll think better if you eat the right foods and fatty acids. Michael Scmidt tells you which ones to choose to make your brain work better.

There are extensive chapter notes and a good index.

I was very happy to find Dr. Schmidts book, "SMART FATS". Having spent several years researching EFA Balance, I found the information in his book to be very accurate and a wonderful information source. This country is in dire need for Omega Balance and for the knowledge to know why. Hurray for "SMART FATS"!

This book was an absolute pleasure to read. Although no book can guarentee omega-3s or 6s as being the be all and end all, this book gives an incredibly intellegent lesson on smart fats. There are also details concerning which foods provide what fats and vitamins. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a need to know more about smart fats.

Extremely well researched and well documented. How pleasantly revealing to read something other than well intentioned authorities in the mainstream simply parroting what they have been told for years.

doctors prescribing statins SHOULD read this first

Dr. Graveline is unfortunately one of the very few who has looked with superb detail into the side effects of statins, a class of drugs that is a true chain saw to the base of the trunk of one of our most important biochemical trees. In order to affect one important limb, the one making cholesterol, ALL other branches are similarly deprived of the same vital building blocks. It is here that Dr. Graveline has done marvellous work in pointing out some of these 'side' effects. Some branches will have fewer leaves [think: muscle strength], fewer fruits [think: cognitive effects] or fewer flowers [think: cancer in the elder].
It is sad if not plain dangerous that probably the vast majority of the doctors who prescribe these drugs do so without the fundamental knowledge that this book and other Graveline work provides. Statins affect every system in the body and doctors and patients should be aware of these effects, some of which are certain, some rare but all are real.

The best I have ever read about the side effects of Statin Drugs. Dr Graveline not only deals with the side effects. He also goes into the mode of action of the drugs and what happens on the cellular level. What cholesterol is and why it is so important to our well being. If fact too little cholesterol and we die.
The book is written so non-medical consumers can easily understand what he is talking about.
If you are taking a statin or a Doctor is trying to put you on a statin. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. It might just save your life or keep you from having severe debilitating side effects.
I have taken the book and put together a power-point presentation to present to the Rotary Club. Everyone needs to be made aware of the danger of statin drugs. No one presents this any better than Dr Graveline.

If you take statins now (or ever did) you NEED to read this book!

This book provides an insight into how our bodies deal with statins. It is written by a highly qualified medical doctor, who is known internationally for his work. He discusses the side-effects of statin medication from the unique viewpoint of examining the cases he has collected over time and placed into a respository of statin side-effects. He has used that information to guide his own researches into the unwanted effects that statins produce in the human body.

Dr Graveline focusses on the mechanisms that produce the side effects . This is the sort of information that ordinary people will not find very easy to discover. The internet may well supply readers with much of this information in some form, if one could be bothered to dig it up and then filter out all of the tales that mark out the information as personal. Dr Graveline has rendered a valuable service to all statin users, by writing this book. He deserves our thanks for unravelling the language that keeps all non-medically qualified people in the dark, when it comes to our health. This book ought to be in every medical practitioner's personal library, because it is a prime example of what can happen to patients when clinicians do not listen to what their patients are saying to them. This book is highly recommended, especially if you really do want to know more about which adverse effects may be caused by statins.

Statins: These drugs are heavy on dangerous side effects, and very light on extending a healthy life.

If you have a typical headache, you can count on aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen to bring relief. If you have a stuffed nose and can't breathe, Nyquil or another decongestant will provide easier breathing for sleep. On the true preventive side of things, having a pregnant woman take folic acid and other supplements absolutely prevents neural tube defects. And making sure that growing children consume calcium and get sun exposure (or take Vitamin D) absolutely prevents rickets and other bone problems.
So does taking a statin reliably prevent a heart attack? Absolutely not! The true statistics show that statins might lower the absolute risk of a cardiac event by just one or two percent over placebo. But the drugmakers use a statistical trick called "relative reduction in risk" to artificially boost this small difference, which is the way they've convinced their sales people and the prescribing physicians to believe in this giant scheme. If 7 percent of placebo users suffer a cardiac event over five years, while about 5 percent of statin users have one, that's an absolute reduction of just 2 percent over five years. But the drugmakers state publicly that it's a "relative reduction in risk" of almost 30 percent, which mathematically is correct. But it's not ethically correct, in my judgement.
And for that one or two percent increased chance of avoiding a cardiac event, side effects occur in far greater percentages of users, and some of these side effects are severe and dangerous. Dr. Graveline's important book points this out in truthful, objective and honest ways. In fact, numerous studies have shown that statins do not increase mortality statistics.
As Dr. Kauffman, Dr. Rosch, and the other reviewers have written, Dr. Graveline's book is a critically important one. It should be required reading for all prescribing physicians.
