This is an excellent book for students who are very new to Radiology. The approach is great for beginners and I recommend that you have at least a novice anatomy background before using this book. You do not have to know anything much about Radiology to enjoy and learn from these authors. They are the perfect example of patient mentors with a caring approach. Strongly Recommended!!

This is a great tool for study and review! It's organization is user friendly with review sections for each topic and there's a nice balance of questions with images in a case study format in the exam portion of the book. I'd definitely recommend this book!

I failed the abdomen test twice before getting my hands on this book. It had the best practice questions I have seen to this date in it! The questions were very thought provoking and really opened my eyes to the thought processes I needed to have to answer each type of question. The review for each portion of the exam was very simple and to the point. There is no extra text in it, ONLY what you need to know! It was very easy to just open it up and review one specific thing if that's what I needed. I have the Davies ABD book and an ESP ABD book, but I must say this one has the best questions in it!!!! The CD was awesome, as well!

I read the other reviews for this book and thought this was definitely what I needed to pass my abdomen registry. -wrong!! I read and studied every chapter. I took the tests. I did the review cd and took the tests on that as well. I made almost perfect scores on the review tests. Needless to say today when I took the exam I did not pass. The questions on the registry are much harder than in this book and a lot of the questions brought up things this book didn't even mention.
Also I thought the registry had a lot of abdominal vasculature and doppler questions on it. Moreso than I thought it would based on percentages. .. Oh well. Maybe it was just my test .. :(

I recently book this book before taking the Abdomen exam. I passed with a high score without a problem. I found the review questions to be really helpful, you have just over 400 questions to help you practice. I actually felt that some of the questions in this book were harder than the ARDMS questions I had on my exam. I thought it was a really good investment of my money.

I liked the outlined material, it was in a simple and easy to study form. However, the ARDMS uses ultrasound images frequently on the exam and therefore image review is a very useful tool in preparing. The images in this book were totally undiagnostic. I have been a registered sonographer for many years and could not make out the images. Being that image review is such a critical part of the ARDMS test, I would personally recommend a book that has better images to review.

If you're getting ready to graduate and take your registry, I highly recommend this book. I admit, I freaked out a little and basically bought every Rad Tech review product I could find. But I honestly haven't even touched the other ones; this one is so comprehensive and well-written! My confidence went from almost 0 to totally confident in a matter of a month or two of studying this! It even has help writing your resume and all the info you need if you want to continue on in another modality once you're done. Plus it comes with a disc so you can take practice registries online and track your progress so you're not so nervous when the big day comes!

While only 100 pages longer than the 2nd edition, this book improves on that edition. It is a "core curriculum" for all the facts and information that a general radiologist in a community hospital setting should master, requiring only slight supplementation based on the needs of his individual practice. The text is uniformly clear and concise but very readable. Almost all the pathologies are illustrated so little is left to the imagination and the charts and tables are extremely useful. I read the 2nd edition cover to cover when it came out and plan to do the same with this edition. 20 plus years out of fellowship this book is like a refresher course, sitting by a viewbox with an attending.

This review is of the website only. The website is falsely advertised.

Most of what is described in the product description still does not exist 2 years after publication. The IMAGE BANK does exist and is downloadable. The INTERACTIVE TEST BANK is still "coming soon." The FULLY SEARCHABLE ANATOMY LIBRARY does not exist but takes you back to the image bank. The CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED IMAGING CASES is a collection of page proofs from a number of the publisher's texts, in no order or organization, and is useless. The publishers claim they update the site monthly with articles but there is no such section. You cannot see this website until you have purchased the book.

In short - they wrote a good book, had great web plans, advertised those plans widely, failed to realize those plans, and now falsely advertise.

Systematic presentation of Neuroradiology

Review Date: 2008-10-25
Ann Osborn is one of the most amazing Neuroradiologists for her knowledge and ability to entertain, as a guest lecturer. Her book is well organized by presenting material in a clear, concise method with excellent photographs, illustrations and summary boxes. Topics cover everything from trauma, stroke to intra-axial and extra-axial tumors. The spine is also covered, very well.

This book is a classic text of this subspecialty. However, it has some limitations:

No recent updates or plan for updates
No head and neck topics, especially temporal bones and sinuses

However, complementary to this book is Head and Neck Imaging by Peter Som:

Head and Neck Imaging CD-ROM and Book Package

The update to this text is the following:

Diagnostic Imaging: Brain

It is an easy read for a resident in the 1st month of your neuroradiology rotation and can be read in a month with a high degree of retention. You will need a book to complement your knowledge for head and neck topics.

Other books to consider are below:

Neuroradiology: The Requisites (Requisites in Radiology)

Brain Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)

Head & Neck Imaging: Case Review Series

Spine Imaging: Case Review Series (Case Review)

Conclusion:

This is a must read. I highly recommend this book.

First of all this book has aged well and when compared to current texbooks it is fantastic. Also it is much better than the new textbook that she has produced, which is simplz a list of diagnoses. During training it is very important to dispose of a textbook where in addition to the images (a requisite for any radiology book) there should be a good text to read as well as an extensive bibliographz. While probably the best neuroradiology textbook remains the one by Taveras this on is very pleasant to read. The tables are exceptionally well presented and alone they make the purchase mandatory. On the negative side, the spinal section is way too short for any neuroradiology textbook and also it is not really up-to-date on more modern techniques such as diffusion and perfusion MRI. I know these techniques emerged as the bok came out and this may seem unfair as a critique in that repsect but whoever buys this book must know that additionally getting another more technically oriented texbook would be good (such as the Scott Atlas one).

MY GUIDE IS IN THE ROOM WHERE I'M WORKINK EVERY MINUTE, BECAUSE IT CONTENTS NOW ALL INFORMATIONS NEEDED AND ADAPTED FOR EACH POSITION AND EACH X-RAY TUBE. THEY HAVE TO BE IN EVERY SCHOOL. The order was supposed to be a set of 3 books. The books came from a broken set, two had a plastic protective wrapper and were in good shape. The third book did not have the protective wrapper and it had a big gash on the front cover. I am not happy with it, but I couldn't return it because I needed the textbook.

We are a new program and this atlas was recommended to us highly. We have used it for two semesters and it is not only a beautiful book, but one that the students find easy to use. The radiographs and all other illustrations are the best of all the books we reviewed. We especially like the summary tables of projections, the technique charts, and the anatomy summaries. We like to point out to students that they should be familiar with many of the projections in the text that are not essential since they often are ordered by physicians. Volume 3 is superb with specialty chapters. We use this volume instead of purchasing a specials type book. The surgery and geriatrics chapters are especially good for our students. We like the CT and cross-sectional also because our students need to know CT in many of their clinical sites. The accompanying workbook is very well done also. Our students like the pocket guide that is available because it contains a radiograph and a place to write their AEC techniques. We think the atlas is a steal because we can use it for five different courses in our new program. Our only complaint is that the pages are very shiney and reflect light. MB

The book could use some references to advanced information sources as it is a bit short on physics/mathematics details.

I am a medical student taking my radiology elective (finally) in the spring of my fourth year. Our department loaned the book to us during the rotation. I've found it to be one of those few books that I will actually purchase to have on my shelf at home (and I'm NOT going into radiology). It is written in a pleasing, conversational manner. The illustrations are of high quality. The discussions are at just the right level for an introduction to radiology. And there are many little "problems" presented throughout the text for the student to puzzle over. The answers are either listed in back, or turn up later in the "conversation" within a few pages. Although it seems long (over 500 pp?), it is mostly pictures. I highly recommend the book.

Review by a medical student interested in Radiology

This book is good if you want a starter to book for radiographic images that encompasses a variety of fields of film study. It was an easy read for each chapters, but way too basic, the author rambles as if you're a 6th grader. So, I only suggest this book if you want only pictures to get an idea of what radiographic films show for some common pathology. The book started with the OVER-SIMPLIFIED anatomy with comparison to the radiographic images. You will need a better book for a more in-depth review of Radiology. There is hardly anything on Neuroradiology, IR, flouroscopy, etc. It was only SLIGHTLY useful for my General Radiology rotation. Plus, most hospitals usually has this book in their library, may be an edition older though.

One think that bothered me about the illustrations were that the lesions were usually not labeled, they were just discussed or mentioned within the illustration's caption or the chapter explanation. The book is pricey for what it contains. It should be worth $40 or less!

As a pediatric cardiology fellow, I found this compact text invaluable. Dr. Fogoros writes in a manner that is easily understandable without being pedantic, straightforward without dismissing important details. His explanations of the anatomic substrates of arrhythmias, of the pharmacology of the conduction system, and of the routines used in the EP lab are fantastic. These are things that are typically quite elusive for the aspiring cardiologist, but after reading his text it was as if someone had turned on a light in a dark room. I only wish he had written more about pacemakers, but overall the amount of practical and helpful information and insight packed into this book is amazing.

For an electrophysiologist in training this is like "Clift's Notes" in Shakespeare class; everyone has it, everyone has read it, but nobody admits to it!

For any cardiology fellow interested in EP fellowship, or who wants to get the most out of an EP rotation, buy this book and read it over the weekend. THEN buy Zipes or Josephson and quote from one of them.

I recommend this as a starting point for those interested in EP fellowship, or as a good overview for those who are affiliated with EP and want a better understanding.

I only give it 4 of 5 stars, because the author occasionally gets opinionated, but at least his humor is refreshing.
