I am a PA in the ED and of what I have read so far I have found this book to be very helpful and well constructed. It is an easy read and overal worth the money. It is probably best suited for someone who has some experience with x-rays and wants to expand futher or review. It does cover some basics and a lot of advanced stuff (CT, MRI, some nuclear scans) as well.

As a practicing family/urgent care physician, this book has proven invaluable on numerous occasions. This book is easy to read with a great number of radiographs to look through.
I highly recommend this book to family physicians and internists
looking to add to their library collection. It is practical and a real time-saver.

Easily the best EM radiology book I've seen. Well-illustrated, well-written, well-referenced, addresses current imaging controversies, and is full of great teaching points.

excellent text for emergency med residents

Review Date: 2002-07-27
I'm a second year emergency med resident, and I love this book. It's written for and aimed at emergency physicians. There are a lot of black and white photos of x-rays, CTs, and some ultrasound. There are also many hand-drawn illustrations that highlight what the radiograph photos are showing. Because this book is written by EM docs, there is a focus on clinical treatment. The text really focuses on what's important in interpreting and managing pts with these radiographic findings. There are a lot of photos, illustrations, and easy-to-read useful tables. I only wish that there were more ultrasound photos, but despite that criticism, I can confidently recommend this book to any serious EM resident.

One must congratulate Harris Cohen and Carlos Civit for the first edition of their book. Both Authors have written several texts before and their experience in writing and teaching shows. Their book covers a great deal of detail and has high quality images yet still reads easily. Another strength of this text is that Drs. Cohen and Civit assembled a large cast of contributors from different institutions thereby ensuring that there is no institutional bias which sometimes plagues similar books. Furthermore, they go to great length to provide several points of view on each topic. Having said that, the editors did an excellent job of maintaining consistency across the board. In summary, this is a well illustrated, detailed reference book for specialist yet, as it reads easily, can be used for the trainee.

I thouroghly enjoyed this review series, especially as I was preparing for oral boards. Full range of fetal and pediatric U/S topics are covered in concise yet thought provoking manner. Cases are presented as unknown just as on would expect in actual clinical practice, followed by description of the findings, most likely diagnosis, discussion of the entity and companion cases. Image quality is very good. I highly recommend this review series by Drs. Cohen and Sivit.

Very informative textbook. Skips through unnecessary gobbledygook i.e. CONCISE and TO THE POINT.
Ideal format for residents as well as practicing radiologists. Up-to-date information.
Quality of pictures is SUPERB.

Sorenson and Phelps have compiled all of the relative and essential physics of nuclear medicine in such a way that is easy to understand. This text also contained graphs that illustrated points and made them much clearer. The pictures of hardware, although somewhat outdated, also were helpful in the learning process. This is an excellent text for any course of study related to nuclear medicine.

Simon Cherry has recently updated this venerated classic textbook originally written by Michael Phelps and Jim Sorenson. The revised and expanded book makes a timely contribution to modern imaging. I just used this book as a supplement to a graduate course at San Diego State University on "Physics of Imaging". It is clear, thorough and very well written. Steven Goetsch, Ph.D.

The "Standard text" for nuclear medicine physics
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-16
"Sorenson and Phelps" is now "Cherry, Sorenson and Phelps." It is still the standard text for nuclear medicine physics, covering the topics well for the radiology resident, nuclear medicine resident or fellow, or a beginning medical physicist. While clearly (in my opinion) the best text in its field, I would suggest that the authors give future consideration for a companion CD ROM (as in many new texts) that helps the reader understand some of the more complex topics, and that they give more treatment to quantiative PET scanning (including a "cookbook" on Patlak analysis using either arterial sampling or modified for venous sampling with left ventricular or aortic region of interest measurement with PET/CT). Sadly, little PET/CT information is available, perhaps the "hottest" topic in nuclear medicine.

All in all, though, it is still the standard text in the field. I am glad to see (and own) the latest edition, and highly recommend it for purchase.

Great book. Many of the "unpublished" statements raise the concern as to the veracity and clinical relevance of these data. The old Friedman and Schamroth text though are very good and complement this text. I still prefer this text over the old Marriot's although I haven't read the new Marriot.

A wonderful clinically oriented book

I am a second-year resident in internal medicine in Italy, and I have read many ECG books. This has soon become my reference. It is an advanced, complete, and very practical book: the pathophisiology and electrophisiology are limited to what is really needed to understand the clinical implications, and the ECG is appropriately considered to be only a part of the clinical investigation. The authors seems to be people that go around the wards, and not cardiologists who sit in their office reading ECGs without any contact with the real world. I have particularly appreciated two sections. The first is the one on ischemia, in which each ECG is completed with the description of the echocardiogram and the angiography of the same patient. The second is the one on electrolyte's and drug's effect on the ECG. I have always found this one to be a terrible subject, and I was surprised to find a well written and interesting chapter.

There is no doubt that the book, CT Teaching Manual, is very useful for
the radiologists in residency or someone interested in CT scanning.
The illustrations in this book are very clear ,and the text is very easy to understand. After reading the book, I understand the basic theory of CT. In addition, I can tell the different organs from each other when I check the CT images. I hope the larger bookstores in Taiwan can import this book as a reference book.

The best anatomy and pathology book for CT I've ever seen.

Review Date: 2003-02-25
There is no better book on the market for cross sectional anatomy. The book uses normal anatomy vs. pathology examples for every body part and major condition that would be visualized with CT imaging. Easy to read, high quality pictures are taken from real Siemens images and put alongside illustrations that label the anatomy.

This book also gives outstanding guidelines for interpreting images. This would make it perfect for radiology or surgery residents.

This book has impressed everyone in my department. Docs and techs alike been impressed by it. Its affordable, not too big and packed with great images.

If you need a cross sectional anatomy text for CT Applications, look no further. Buy this book!!!

Review Date: 2004-06-25
I studied this book many times (resident, fellow, before exams), and every time I found myself learning from it more and more.
It is about 300 pages, with 25 cases. The first 16 cases deal with common entrapment neuropathies, radiculopathies, etc in upper and lower extremities (8 cases each). The last nine cases are oriented for generalized diseases such as Myasthenia, AIDP, botulism, etc. Each case starts with history/exam followed by few questions. The next 2-3 pages are the NCS/ENG findings. The next 5-15 pages (varies between cases) are rich with very informative discussion about the electrophysiological findings, anatomy with pictures and charts, clinical with few tables, then a lengthy electrophysiological explanations about the particular case and its differential diagnosis, with many tables( key EMG muscles, LEMS versus MG). The case ends with a follow up.
As I said above, I keep learning from this book, and I do not hesitate to recommend it.

My dads book, a great one.

Hi! I'm Linda Katirji, and Bashar Katirji is my dad. If you lived in my house in Ohio, you would know how long my dad worked on this book. Day and night he sat at this darn computor and wrote this book... he put so much hard work into it. Even though i cant understand half the "doctors lingo" as he calls it, (i'm only 13) i can see the effort he put into it and the satistfaction he got out of it. Even if only 10 people bought this book, he would be thrilled and i'm very proud of my dad. Dad, i applaud you.
