Diagnostic-Imaging Books

This 252 page text is volume 34 of series entitled "Developments in Nuclear Medicine". The Text consists of 30 chapters, many of which are dedicated to specific tropical and some more common micro-organisms, with an emphasis on how Nuclear Medicine techniques may contribute towards the management of patients with these infections. To those in the developed world the list of organisms might be considered to be of small relevance to our day to day practice of Nuclear Medicine, but we are reminded in the Foreword of the prevalence of diseases such as malaria, leprosy, schisosomiasis and others, with half of the world's population being at risk and the fact that 36% of dealths are due to infectious diseases in the developing world. Some of the last 6 chapters are less specific, dealing with radiopharmaceuticals used in infection and inflammation and the role of Nuclear Medicine in the management of Fever of Unknown Origin. More specific chapters are also incorporated towards the end of the book covering invasive fungal infections, mononuclear cell mediated inflammation and the labelling of antibiotics and micro-organisms.

The list of contributors is multinational but predominantly from Brazil and Ghent, with the editor being the sole author or contributing to the majority of chapters. A reasonably large number of figures are included, many of which illustrate features of Nuclear Medicine imaging in tropical and infectious diseases that are rare in more general Nuclear Medicine texts. Some are poorly reproduced, however, and are too small for adequate visualisation of the pathology described.

Despite most of us being rarely involved with many of the pathologies described in this book, I suspect that much of the information contained is not easily accessible elsewhere, and as such, this text is of interest and potentially an extremely useful first port of call to look for information on Nuclear Medicine techniques in tropical infectious diseases.

I loved this book, it covers the essentials of obstetric ultrasound in a very practical way. It is also very well illustrated, and it's so little that you can carry it easily in your pocket. A must have for every beginner in the field.

This is an excellent book on MRI. One chapter is devoted entirely to helping the anxious or claustrophobic patient complete their scan. The images are fantastic - better than any other images I've ever seen in an MRI book. The authors provide details on how to obtain these images. Another chapter provides radiology administators, managers, and technologists with practical information about setting up their own open MRI center. The authors reveal the secrets to using open magnets successfully.

Readers will undoubtedly benefit from the information resources and descriptive skills of the authors and their ability to convey complex technical tasks in an easily assimilated form. This reference textbook should certainly be a staple text for both students and advanced professionals and can definitely be recommended for its in-depth information and its readable style with profuse, relevant, high quality illustrations. This book will be the standard textbook for ophthalmic photography by which all others are measured for years to come.

I am a primary care sports medicine physician and occasionally take my own x-rays. This book contains all the common and many uncommon x-ray views used in conventional plain-film orthopaedic radiography. For each view there are photographs and narrative instructions for positioning, what type of equipment to use (cassette, bucky, etc.), orientation of the beam and other helpful hints, and a picture of what the x-ray should look like. It is a great reference for anyone who orders orthopedic x-rays and for x-ray techs as well. Helpful when asking a tech to take an unusual view they are not familiar with (e.g. west point axillary). I have found it very helpful in learning how to take x-rays myself as well - the only other thing I needed was the technique chart for the x-ray tube I am using. An inexpensive and valuable addition to my library.

This is what I have always been looking for: A. Meyer-Baese presents an excellent book covering both a general introduction and a comprehensive survey on pattern recognition for biomedical purposes. I think the author provides a nice balance between theory and practice. The textbook can serve as an outstanding introduction of exceptional quality for everybody who wants to find precise, yet understandable discussions on how cutting-edge medical image analysis works, including methods for feature selection and extraction, wavelet analysis, neural networks and applications.

In summary, no matter whether you are a student or an expert interested in the field of biomedical pattern and image recognition: This book is what you need and a definite `must have'!

This pediatric MR atlas of the brain contain an almost complete expose of imaging of the pediatric brain and spine. The image quality is first class and the more than 500 pages with extensive images and condensed text makes it a first class reference.

One of our pediatric Doctors bought this book for our department. We refer to it frequently, I think the pictures are fantastic. If you need a pediatric book, get this one, I think its great.

This book was incredibly helpful in studying for my PET board exam! Very well written, organized, and thought out, this book is a must for anyone wanting an understanding of PET in not only the clinical aspect but the physics and instrumentation side of things. Very useful diagrams are provided as well! Highly recommended!
