I was a student of Dr. Urdaneta's years ago and was well aware of her concern of and dedication to the study of diabetes in
Hispanic Americans. As I work in a mostly Hispanice, title one school now, I know of the devistation that diabetes brings
to families. This book is amazing and the recipes are fantastic. I am ordering more for Christmas gifts to fellow teachers
this year. This book is as much of a class act as Dr. Urdaneta.

This book came in great condition. I love the recipes and the fact that you are only cooking for two...which means two meals
for us single people. They are tasty and easy to create!! Worth purchasing.

A 'must' for any college-level Native American collection.

DIABETES AMONG THE PIMA: STORIES OF SURVIVAL could've been featured in our Health Section, but is reviewed here for its narrowed
focus on Native health and health care in this country. While the Pima community receives the primary focus, DIABETES AMONG
THE PIMA offering the first in-depth ethnographic analysis of all causes of diabetes in this community, the book holds wider
recommendation for examining Pima core values, health attitudes, and attitudes toward treatment, making it a 'must' for any
college-level Native American collection.

This book has got to be one of the best Diabetic cookbooks I've come across. Other recipes from other cookbooks are missing
flavour and the texture of the foods is not quite the same. In this book though the recipes are as delicious to read as to
eat! A couple of our favourites so far are the recipes for meatballs (I've already made several dozen for freezing and this
is great for quick easy meals) and we tried the Sweet and Sour recipe - YUM! There is a Blueberry Strusel recipe that turned
out wonderfully and even the non-diabetics in our family liked this dessert!

Saw this book in USA Today and ordered it because the recipes and menus looked simple, inexpensive and delicious. I haven't
been disappointed! Especially liked the market basket makeovers and shopping tips.

This is a cookbook of great everyday recipes. My family is kind of meat and potatoes and doesn't like that "gourmet" stuff
most cookbooks have. The peach cobble-up, apple crisp and chicken and dumplings are awesome and fairly simple to make. You
might have to start out buying some of the lower fat or sugar substitute ingredients but most of the ingredients are regular
pantry items. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for some healthy recipe alternatives to old fashioned cooking.
I usually buy a cookbook, use it once or twice and it winds up on a shelf, but not this one. I use it at least once a week
and sometimes 3 or 4 times.

The number one topic on the minds of most diabetics is food - and the most puzzling questions on what and how to eat come
from the diabetic experience. Diabetes Nutrition Q&A For Health Professionals surveys a range of issues for health professionals,
from snacking and sugars to protein restrictions and the effectiveness of dieting versus exercise. An excellent manual of
common areas of confusion for diabetics.

I am using this cookbook to give to families that have children with diabetes. I chose this cookbook because the recipes
are not long and involved and do not use specialty ingredients. The recipes are short, nutritious and each is followed by
nutritional data. It makes it very easy for the children to count their carbs! Great cookbook! Leah M., RN

This book is the best I've come across in the 5 years I've had advanced diabetes. It is not only thorough in describing the
impact of the disease on all parts of the body, but also is absolutely up to date as to available treatment. It is both an
excellent introduction to diabetes as well as a guide to living with the disease and finding improvements in quality of life.
And the price is low enough to be affordable by all. To be well informed and up to date you can't do better than this book!

We bought our first copy when I cooked for my mother, a diabetic who also had to watch her salt intake. We enjoyed the variety of dishes so much, we still use the book ten years after she died. Now that my brother has developed diabetes, I'm ordering another copy for him. Mine is too worn to pass on and I really don't want to give it up.
