This just goes to show you that even if you are not a diabetic, you can enjoy these combinations of foods and not restrict yourself to taste. This book just proves that for once in our life we can cook one way, and not have to cook 2 different meals, one for our family and one for us. Everyone will enjoy this combination of cooking.

this cookbook by jenny craig is fantastic. i am on jenny craig right now and while i am not diabetic, it does run in the family; better safe than sorry. so far i have used the french toast recipe and the ground beef recipe. it offers advice/exchanges on carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, meats and their substitutes, fruits and veggies and a new category. OTHER. i highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to lose weight and is diabetic or has family members who are diabetic. THIS BOOK EXPLAINS HOW CARBOHYDRATES CAN AFFECT BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS FOR DIABETICS. to me that is more important than a low carb fad diet. there has to be meaning to it. this puts it into perspective.

While the focus of this book is how sugar does damage to your body by raising your insulin level and leads to weight gain, it also covers every other topic related to health. It shows you which foods to throw out and what to buy on your next grocery trip to lead you to a healthy lifestyle. You will receive specific advice on exercise and meal plans. The end of the book provides you with 60 healthy recipes using the items you were told to buy.The book also provides you with 30 sugar solutions that are great tips I have found in other books that will really help, like always eating breakfast, making sure you have enough fiber, drinking lots of water and much more. If you are new to reading diet books this may very well be the only one you ever need. I lost 60 pounds on a similiar program "The Zone", and my guiding principle was controlling my insulin level through balancing my carbohydrate (Sugar) intake with my protein intake. The key is that insulin is a fat storing hormone, sugar intake causes your body to release to much insulin which brings your blood sugar down to much and stores the calories you eat as body fat. Your body can only burn fat when your insulin level in your blood is very low, allowing your body to release stored fat as energy. While the book is rather boring, it does contain all the information you need. It is not a 5 star because the writer could have made reading it at least a little fun. Also read "Mastering the Zone" for a more concise understanding of solving sugar problems.

I really like how easy this book is to use. Since being diagnosed with diabetes I thought I would have to give up baking, but not with this book. The recipes are good tasting too. I did replace the liquid sweet and low with liquid stevia because it is better for you. I have added a picture which includes two recipes. Pumpkin bread and fruit spread. Both are wonderful together.

Exchanging carbs for fat

Like many low carb cookbooks, this one is heavy on whipping cream and cream cheese. I don't want to manage my pre-diabetes and get fat in the process! I had hoped for more recipes using healthy whole grain flours. Uses a lot of whey protein, which can be pricey.

I have tried many of the new products on the market and found them to bother my stomach or to be too high in carbs and low in protein. I didn't find that with these recipes. I really used the muffin and cookie recipes. They don't use sugar alcohols like xylitols a type of "sugar alcohol". The apparent drawbacks to sugar alcohols are (1) the expense, (2) not available at some grocery stores, and (3) as stated in small print on the labels of most products with sugar alcohols, "excess consumption may cause a laxative effect". In other words, they can cause loose bowels when eaten "in excess". How is "in excess" defined? It depends on your digestive system. Mine is sensitive, so that a cookie or candy sweetened by sugar alcohols can cause me problems.

There are no soy in these recipes which I dislike because of flavor. She uses whey protein and a little oat flour. There is liquid sweetener Sweet & Low but I found leaving it out and adding a bit more Splenda or Stevia made the recipes just fine.

I would recommend this book if you are missing sweets, tired of eggs for breakfast, still in the losing weight phase of your diet or just want a homemade chocolate chip cookie!

I've been cooking low carb for quite a while and was really excited when I found this. Well the joke was on me. Most of these recipes are dry, dry, dry. They also call for sweet-n-low, which is sacchrin and leaves an awful aftertaste. splenda is a much better choice as it measures, cooks and tastes like sugar. the rest of the ingredients (which were VERY expensive) just taste gross. buy this so-called cookbook at your own peril!

Wonderful for dieting, staying healthy, and boosting the ego

This diet/cookbook is terrific. I've lost 10 pounds without cravings! That may not sound like a lot, but believe me, it is. The health/nutrition updates in the first 50 pages have helped me realize what I'd been doing wrong. Can't think of any other diet book that gave such great advice, and in such a warm, helpful way. This book's a real ego booster when I'm feeling down or stressed about my weight.

And, since I love chocolate, the book's recommended unsweetened cocoa recipes (no-sugar no-fat fudge sauce!) have helped me fight off hunger. Cocoa is also the highest in antioxidants, something else I hadn't known, so I consider it and the recent studies revealed in this book as a lifesaver. The recipes are also amazingly inventive, using new, better-for-you food products.

I've done about a zillion diets, but I've only gained weight and nearly went nuts from the cravings. No more of that with The Cardiologist's Wife's book. I can't recommend it enough.

Was disappointed that there were not many chocolate desert recipees. I have a hard time dieting because of my chocolate addition and thought I had found the cookbook for me. It's a good cookbook just not enough (hardly any) chocolate.

My doctor recommened this, and said a lot of doctors are recommending it. This book is fantastic, and a shock. Who knew that "fat free evaporated milk" has as much sugar as a candy bar!? I still see "diet" recipes that say "substitute sugar with honey, chopped dates, ripened bananas" -- "ripened" just means the starch breaking down into sugar, and "natural sugar" is still sugar! The authors also help us to understand what's bogus, or just plain wrong even among well-intentioned "diet" recipes. When I got through the book's first chapter I thought WOW that's why no diet has worked for me, or was so hard, or I lost the weight & then gained it back. I'm also thrilled at the thought of fudge sauce on sliced fruit & walnuts every night. I feel so good!

THIS is a diet!? But it works, it's funny and has the most up to date health/nutrition information. Also, since it's both low carb AND low fat, it will be easy to make into a life program.

Best diet book ever.

If you really want to lose weight and improve your health, this is the best diet for the new century. No wonder none of the old diets worked! I can't believe how much I've lost in the month since I started. Ten pounds without cravings! That's because of the cocoa, which helps you go longer without feeling hungry. It's also because of this diet's "makeover" approach to all recipes for all meals. It uses much healthier sugar-free, fat-free, new food products in many of its delicious recipes to create bigger, more filling portions that are still low cal.

It's also the first low carb and low fat diet I've ever heard of. Also valuable is the new health and nutrition information in Parts One & Three of the book. In the past, I've failed at so many diets, not realizing that their claims to "no sugar" & low fat were bogus. This book has a whole section on "hidden sugars in your diet recipes," and I was shocked. That's why I wasn't losing weight!

If you really seriously want to get thin, stay thin, and improve your health, this book is the best.
