Where are my brands?

While this book is very helpful for anyone following an exchange-based dietary plan, many of the brands listed are unfamiliar
to me. I assume they are regional. In addition, the most commonly used brands in my region are often missing from the book.
That means I need to compare nutritional facts from each label with the products listed and make a note for the future. That's
more work than I usually want to take on. However, this is a still a helpful book for my meal planning.
A must-have for food exchange diet plans!

I'm on a food exchange diet plan, similar to the counts listed by the American Diabetes Association. This book is easy-to-use,
listed by type of food and brand name. It's filled with 4,000 foods, including all the ones we typically buy. It has the
necessary nutritional information & clearly listed food exchange values. It's a must-have tool for meal planning and taking
to the supermarket, helping make good food choices from start to finish. Worth far more than the price - I recommend it whole-heartedly
to anyone on a food exchange diet plan.

I have to strongly disagree with the previous reviewer. This is a beautiful, well-organized book.
I was just recently diagnosed with gluten intolerance, so the dietary changes have been overwhelming to say the least. I checked out every book on gluten intolerance/Celiac disease from the library, and this is the first cookbook that actually made me feel hopeful that I wouldn't have to give up all of my beloved baked foods.
The photos are stunning. The muffins, cakes and cookies look "normal", and it makes me feel normal to bake them. This is so important to me right now because since my diagnosis, I have felt like anything but a normal person.
Some notes on the previous reviewers points:
1. I did not find the baking pan sizes a challenge. For example, I also do not own an 11x7 baking pan, but as a lifelong baker, I have always felt it easy to adjust by using a 9x13 rectangular pan or an 8x8 square pan.
2. The previous reviewer correctly stated that this book was not written for someone who needs in-depth information on Celiac disease. I'm uncertain if this was a criticism, but it should not be. This book was clearly conceived as a cookbook only. It never pretends to be anything different. There are plenty of informational books out there on Celiac disease. This is just a pure, straightforward cookbook.
3. As for the criticism that the photos do not correspond to the recipes, this is not accurate. Not all of the recipes have corresponding photos, but the ones that do are adjacent to their photos. The particular recipe the reviewer referred to is in fact on page 56. Its corresponding photo is on page 38-39 but only because it has been used as a chapter photo. This is a common cookbook practice and is not meant to confuse the reader.
I highly recommend this book to any gluten-intolerant/Celiac reader. Since my diagnosis, I have struggled to not feel sad or angry or deprived, and this cookbook has been truly been a bright spot for me on this new journey.

I bought this cookbook because it had great photographs of the prepared recipes which inspire me to try them. I noticed in
many other gluten-free cookbooks that even the photos did not look appetizing. The chewy nutty chocolate brownies came out
delicious but Blair asked for an 11x7-inch baking pan which is not the norm for pans in the US. The odd sizing is because
the author was writing for the British audience. The problem becomes, do you adjust the recipe or hunt down special pans?
This book was not written for someone who wants to learn in depth information regarding celiac disease. However, the instructions in the recipes are easy to follow.
I like it when a cookbook has the name of the recipe on the photo page. The beet speckled cake recipe on page 56 is pictured on pages 38-39. However, the photo reminded me of a carrot cake and I was looking for a recipe for carrot cake. I only accidentally found the comment on page 56 stating that the end product was pictured on pages 38-39.

This cookbook had some very delicious recipes, especially if you're on a special diet. However, it lacked nutritional analyses,
which are very important for me, a diabetic. I returned it in hopes of getting the third edition, but I found out from the
American Diabetic Association that this cookbook has been discontinued as most of its recipes are in another in the series
of Month of Meals cookbooks: All-American Meals. The third edition of this series of cookbooks have nutritional analyses.

Using this book is a no-brainer - which is what I REALLY needed. My husband was just diagnosed with Type II diabetes, and
his nutritional needs are critical. We are stationed in Germany and are in the process of moving. I was disheartened when
I found that the military dietician is unavailable right now. Other books were confusing - trying to figure out 30% fat calories,
etc. This book saved my sanity! The spiral binding and split page design are FANTASTIC and the food is GREAT. Directions are
concise and it's easy to prepare a menu and shopping list from the book. Best of all, we're getting nutritious, consistant,
easy meals and snacks and half the work is done for us. Some of the books in the series even include smart choices when eating
out at fast food restaurants - another bonus. When our doctor and nurses saw these books, they were AMAZED. My recomendation:
get all five!

Lots of information, very thought provoking regarding the dangers of too much sugar hitting your system at one time, spiking
your insulin production, which can do a lot of damage. Diabetes runs in my family, so the topic of the book is of major interest
to me. Some of the recommendations are contradictory, though, as if the book was written by several authors who didn't quite
agree on the best course of action. In spite of this, in general, the book has had a significant impact on my own lifestyle
- primarily in diet, since I had been following a healthy exercise routine prior to buying the book. Well worth reading!

My 12 year old son was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He thought there would be nothing that he liked that he could
eat. This book has been a great help and he enjoys alot of the recipes. He is such a picky eater but with this book it makes
food interesting for the whole family to enjoy.

The recipes in this cookbook look delicious if somewhat complicated. I haven't had the book long enough to try them. However,
one very important piece of information is missing from these recipes; serving size. I'm sure that there are programs which
show this. In fact, I'm so disappointed that I would be willing to pay for a list of portions so that I might add this information
to my favorite recipes.

Although cookbooks for diabetics are useful, but not one fits all as humans are the variable and what works for one just may
not work for others. Foods effect people in a variaty of ways in diabetes. so some may find they have higher sugar levels
on one receipt and lower on others. While some menus may cause weight gain, etc. all involving medications and the reaction
on the person reading the book. As a result all must work it out for themselves and not assume that following a published
cook book will be a full answer.

I found this book to be exactly right. After looking at so many diabetic dessert books that have tons of artificial ingredients
or little taste this book is the answer. All the recipes are easy to make and call for every day ingredients. The nutrition
facts are easy to follow. A must have for any diabetic that enjoys dessert.
