Diabetes Books

I liked Meal Planning for Diabetes in Pregnancy : Practical Applications. It has good recipes. It is also good to help explain diabetes. Mrs. Burani has helped me a lot. She is my dietician and a good author.

It seems to be helpful to both diabetes patients and physicians. But I think it is more helpful in doctors or medicine school students who want to know how to take care diabetes patients exactly.

P.S. This 5th edition book doesn't include any media product(such as CD, DVD) of its contents.

I am resident in internal medicine. I bought and read the book. . The treatment of type 2 diabetes was clearly and very detailed described in sections of the book. It is very useful for outpatients clinics doctors. It is clearly perfect.
All residents and students must have this book !

Diabetes has been my "search engine" for meaning in life. Diagnosed in 1957 when I was 10 years old, I found diabetes to be a teacher, a means to learn about life and about myself. The greatest lessons have been spiritual which comes as no suprise for the seeking of meaning is a spiritual process. In the Foreword to my book, Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen (author of Kitchen Table Wisdom) writes: "The pursuit of meaning is often the doorway to the spirit. The language of the soul is meaning. In the setting of a chronic illness, people instinctively reach for personal meaning, people who have never considered this dimension of life before. Meaning helps us to see in the dark. It strengthens the will to live in us." Reflecting on the lessons of 42 years of having diabetes and 25 years of working as a diabetes educator I have concluded that it is the spiritual component in life which gives us wings to rise above challenges like a chronic illness, the death of loved ones, the serious injury of a child-- all challenges I have experienced. Each reader is invited to seek and find his or her own meaning by meditating on quotations like: "Every blade of grass has its Angel that bends over it and whispers, 'Grow, grow.'" (The Talmud) Who are the angels in your life? Biblical wisdom ("A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." Proverbs 17:22) is interspersed with the wisdom of people like Helen Keller, Martin Luther King, Jr., Henry David Thoreau and (a delightful discovery as I did the research) a proverb from a 12th century African (Kanem) civilization: "We will water the thorn for the sake of the rose." As I state in the Introduction, "The purpose of this book is to help you find your meaning in your life experiences and to develop a philosophy that is both helpful and hopeful. Some of the aphorisms in this book are new to me, discovered as I researched this book. Other thoughts are old friends that have delighted, inspired and comforted me for many years. May they connect you with your thoughts in ways that will lead you to strength, peace and hope."

After reading this book, I got a small book to keep track of my moods and my blood sugar, then started developing ways to avoid stress and strong emotions (the bad ones, that is). It is a cure-all, but it does help, which is all I can ask of any program. It has also put me in a much better mood. You don't have to be a diabetic to appreciate this book.

I am in the process of curing my candida. Nothing, NOTHING esle has worked. This is working. My Father is starting to take MMS for Parkinsons. Who knows what will happen there... but that's the point... ONLY GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN ON THIS STUFF, that's why the FDA has just banned it in the states and trying to in OZ. If you can get hold of it over there, good luck to you. I'm stocking up now and about to send some to a guy with aids, a disease Jim has had outstanding success with as stated in this book. Up to you.

My mom is a diabetic and this book have exceptionally easy and fast to do recipes that can keep her healthy and on the go. I eager if you have diabetics in your family and wish to help them or be ready for them if they visit this is the book to have.

The updated second edition packs in over 150 recipes, hints for eating lighter as a lifestyle change, and portion sizes geared to aid in diabetes control and weight loss. Recipes are very easy, offer streamlined dishes based on pre-made foods as much as possible, and will appeal to any interested in modifying their cooking habits to accommodate diabetic needs.

This is the book I have been trying to make for myself out a notebook. It is very easy to use and is even a boone for the Dr. to see how you Diabetes is doing. This can go to the Dr. with you, and answer all those "I don't know" questions.
Easy to fill in, and take with me on travels in case of emergency.

As a recently diagnosed diabetic, I found this book very helpful in giving me the information I needed and dispelling many of my fears and misconceptions of this disease. It is written in a straightforward and easy to understand format. It covers everything from the basics of what diabetes is,how to check glucose levels,and proper diet and exercise to how to handle special situations such as illness and travel. This is an excellent reference guide to living succesfully with diabetes.
