This is a really practical book that should be read by all involved in taking care of the patient with diabetes.

Readability, up to date content, and detailed case studies are the strengths of this book. It presents a good overview of the disease and I believe is an excellent starting point for further investigation into DM.

I wish I had this book as a medical student during my Endocrinology rotation!

This is a great resource to add to anyone's repertoire of books dealing with diabetes and pregnancy. Most other books are exercise and eating right guides. Instead, this book looks at the hows and whys of diabetes in pregnant women, gestational diabetics, and what's really going on with their bodies. It's a bit more clinical than your average "how-to" book for managing diabetes, but that's exactly what makes it such a great book. Authoritative, evidence-based, and far-ranging chapters make this a true educational tool for the woman or provider who needs to know more than "stay away from sugar."

Diabetes Living: The Will to be Well is a really easy read, and it was actually written by a diabetic! What a concept! I mean, who would have thought to have a diabetes education book written from a patient perspective vs. a clinical perspective. This book explains how to handle diabetes at all stages of life, and is a truly inspiring book for me as a diabetic. The author explains the complications she suffered from her diabetes, and how she was able to actually reverse some of them by tightly controlling her diabetes. She was apparently one of the first people to use an insulin pump and she tells an inspiring story about the way diabetes affects her, as well as how the rest of the family is affected. I HIGHLY reccommend this book to any diabetic or family member of a diabetic. It has fairly large print and a glossary at the back to define any difficult terminology (even though there is minimal advanced language in this book to begin with!) Go Get it NOW!!!

Saw this book in USA Today and ordered it because the recipes and menus looked simple, inexpensive and delicious. I haven't been disappointed! Especially liked the market basket makeovers and shopping tips.

Great everyday recipes

This is a cookbook of great everyday recipes. My family is kind of meat and potatoes and doesn't like that "gourmet" stuff most cookbooks have. The peach cobble-up, apple crisp and chicken and dumplings are awesome and fairly simple to make. You might have to start out buying some of the lower fat or sugar substitute ingredients but most of the ingredients are regular pantry items. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for some healthy recipe alternatives to old fashioned cooking. I usually buy a cookbook, use it once or twice and it winds up on a shelf, but not this one. I use it at least once a week and sometimes 3 or 4 times.

This is an excellant book for the lay person. Although it is very technical I learned more about diabetes in the first few chapters than I have in the past year from many many different sources. It answers every question I have had since I was first diagnosed. I would really like to thank the doctor for writing it.

The number one topic on the minds of most diabetics is food - and the most puzzling questions on what and how to eat come from the diabetic experience. Diabetes Nutrition Q&A For Health Professionals surveys a range of issues for health professionals, from snacking and sugars to protein restrictions and the effectiveness of dieting versus exercise. An excellent manual of common areas of confusion for diabetics.

I am using this cookbook to give to families that have children with diabetes. I chose this cookbook because the recipes are not long and involved and do not use specialty ingredients. The recipes are short, nutritious and each is followed by nutritional data. It makes it very easy for the children to count their carbs! Great cookbook! Leah M., RN

An excellent overall guide to understanding Diabetes.

This book is perfect for the recently diagnosed or anyone with a family member or friend who has diabetes. It covers all the topics and issues in a way that is intelligent, sensitive and yet does not flinch from the issues. From learning how to use your meter to dealing with family members, this is a diabetes information course and a sourcebook to refer back to over and over.

I used Diana Guthrie's book to educate myself when my doctor turned me loose with no diet, no information and no idea of how to use my meter. This book is NOT a self diagnosing cure-all, BUT IT WAS the band aid between meeting in a diabetes educational session with a medical professional (which took three weeks, and that's a long time to wait for help) and being scared and knowing nothing. Thank you, Ms. Guthrie. In addition, I have been recommending this book to fellow diabetics.

An extraordinary book on the subject, and absolutely invaluable.

When my husband developed diabetes II his doctor recommended this book. An interesting and informative discussion on diabetes. We followed the instructions to the letter. His sugar went from 318 to normal in less than six weeks and he has been off medication for 5 years. It really works! This is a must read for diabetics.
