I am more than satisfied after I received the book and actually took a read. The book is well made and organized, containing super rich content in a compact size. I also found those photos in good quality.
Along with the book you also get the access to the Student Consult online which I think still needs improvement. The software took a lot of time to synchronize with my PDA and it generates many un-coded letters.
But anyhow, this book itself is worth the price. A must read for new dermatologists.

I bought this book a month ago, read it thoroughly and find it quite intersting and informative. It is different from the books usually written on dermatology. All questions asked are very common, informative and the one which are usually asked in the ward rounds and clinical meetings.
I recommend this book to all the dermatologists !

Useful Approach to Diagnosis of Cutaneous Diseases

Review Date: 2008-07-24
Ko and Barr's "Dermatopathology, Diagnosis by First Impression" is a fresh and practical approach to oftentimes complex and difficult diagnostic problems inherent in certain cutaneous diseases. Dermatopatholgy, in my opinion, frequently has an emphasis oftentimes unlike those of general surgical pathology. Skin, because of its accessible location and because of the plethora of diagnostic possibilities, offers special diagnostic challenges. Definitive diagnosis of the numerous skin disorders involves the recognition of especially subtle microscopic changes. Perhaps if internal organs were as accessible and visible as is the skin, they would also be subject to clinical descriptions of a myriad of diagnoses. Because they aren't, however, diagnosis revolves around recognition of basic and oftentimes obvious changes.

Ko and Barr have attempted to break the problem down into recognizable changes that the non-specialist pathologist should be able to grasp. The color plates are good but not perfect. The publication process has been hard on the haematoxylin blues and purples. Nevertheless, largely because of the authors' presentation, this isn't overly important. This isn't a cytology text--patterns rather than submicroscopic detail are emphasized.

It works. I wish I'd had a similar text when I was studying pathology. I have little doubt that the use of this book will increase the accuracy of many cutaneous diagnoses.

A Dermatopathology book worthy of the title: Dx by 1st impression

In the world of medicine, dermatology is an incredibly small part. In the world of dermatology, dermatopathology is not a small part, but rather an essential one. No one in the general public would likely pick up a book such as this and give it a read. But for dermatologists, pathologists, and dermatopathologists, this book is superb. "Dermatopathology: Diagnosis by First Impression" is a well thought out manual that takes an esoteric field and makes it meaningful from the beginning. Altho it is an atlas of dermpath, the concise, descriptive text is presented so that a relatively inexperienced reader, eg, a resident, or an experienced practioner can read it and get an excellent overview of dermatopathology, based on...first impression. The approach is innovative and particularly useful for the novice since it is often color, pattern, cell type, etc, which is first noticed. The one criticism I would mention, however, is that the printer or publisher did not do a great job replicating the normal color of a hematoxlyin-eosin stained slide in the photomicrographs. The resolution could be improved on some of the photomics, but for the most part does not impact the overall diagnostic details. It would have been enormously helpful to have had this atlas/ text to have used as a guide when I first began in dermatology, and later when studying for my Dermatopathology boards. Overall I would rate this book 5 stars, but would subtract one star, based on the publisher's less than stellar job with photomicrograph colors.

I am currently studying for the Dermatology Boards and I found this book to be incredibly helpful. It's a great way to flip through images and test yourself - especially at the end of the day when you are tired and can't read text. Very high yield images and the picture groupings enable you to truly see the differences in diseases that often appear very similar under the microscope. I highly recommend this book so you can get into the rhythm of making a diagnosis at low power within a minute.

Geared for the professional, this book will round out basic knowledge and is very helpful.

My book arrived bent and rumpled just thrown in a box, unlike AMAZON'S usual great service.

After calling they did replace the book immediatly, the second book came shrink wrapped and packed properly.

These things happen and Amazon is great at rectifying them.

The book has useful tables and diagrams especially when you are oncall and need a quick reference. The dermatology section is excellent for the Internal Medicine Board. I highly recommend this book for medical students and residents.

Amazingly well written text with comprehensive review of the technique. It not only gives you excellent tips on HOW to inject but, most importantly, WHY to inject in a given area and WHAT response you may expect from the non-injected muscles. DVD is well edited, informative and with very to-the-point narration. Overall, if you want to learn about Botox well beyond what is now considered FDA approved use, there is no other text that is even half-way close.

The illustrations are clear and the photographs of different patients are very usefull. The DVD is very clear and didactic. I highly recomend the book.

Weedon's book is one of the best and completest collections in the world concerning dermatopathology.
it gives a good overview about nearly all possible skin diseases and show a lot of photos even of rare cases. Therefore one has to have if one works with skin pathology--sort of bible.
can be recommended to dermatologists as well as they are supposed to know histology a little bit for the diagnosis.

This is, in my opinion THE BOOK for a pathologist dealing with dermatopathology. The writing is clear and crisp and I appreciate the morphologically-oriented classifications, instead of the more common admixture of ethiologic, morphologic and topographic attempts of classification, many of the categories meaning little to the morphologist.

A Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary Guide
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-29
There have been many attempts to fill the void that exists for a truly multidisciplinary wound care reference book. The perfect reference work would be simple enough for the student to understand, while providing enough comprehensive material that the experienced practitioner could gain new insights while enhancing clinical skills. Ideally it would provide a solid understanding of the underlying causes of wounds while supplying solid principles of assessment and management which would allow students and more advanced learners alike opportunities to enhance their skills. This would allow readers with different levels of experience to remain engaged with the text, while not being too over or underwhelmed.

Wound Care Practice by Paul J. Sheffield, PhD, Adrianne P.S. Smith, MD, and Caroline E. Fife, MD is the definitive text that fills that void. The focus of this book is assessment and management of chronic wounds in a wound care practice setting. "Physicians, nurses, enterostomal therapists, physical
therapists, and other health care professionals will find in this book the principles of modern, moist, interactive wound care and the application of advanced therapies."

"This book represents the combined efforts of 60 authors selected from basic sciences, clinical sciences, and clinical practice. The reader can examine the principles of managing the wound and treating the underlying cause of pressure sores, vascular insufficiency, chronic venous insufficiency ulcers, diabetic/neurotrophic foot ulcers, and other chronic wounds."
(Paul J. Sheffield, from the Preface).

Wound Care Practice is well organized and divided into five main sections which include application chapters on defining and understanding the etiology of problem wounds, principles of wound assessment, principles of wound management, pain, infection, adjunctive therapies, and healthcare delivery.
The book also includes a helpful resource section that provides names, addresses, and contact information for wound care product and technology manufacturers.

This book differs significantly from others of the same subject matter in the holistic approach the authors have taken when examining each section's topic. An excellent example of this multidisciplinary and holistic manner is readily available in the first chapter, "Etiology of the Problem Wound". In this
chapter the authors offer a fascinating range of material that addresses oxygen and perfusion issues, the impact of nutrition and hydration, hematological abnormalities, and socioeconomic issues. Yes, this is a text, but the effects of socioeconomic issues on wounds had my rapt attention!

I highly recommend this book for anyone practicing or teaching wound care. The extensive photographs of actual wounds as well as graphs and assessment tools in this book lead me to recommend it as a reference that should be made available at nursing stations for quick reference as well. "Wound Care Practice"
would be a good addition to medical libraries, for advanced practice nursing programs, and as a reference for practicing nurses in all settings. My vote = Five Stars!

I am a medical student who is getting his first taste of Dermatology. Since our notes do not include color photographs, I decided to buy a book. At first, I was tempted by color atlases but then I found this book. Not only does it contain color photos, but each chapter is dedicated to a specific problem (e.g. warts) and covers such issues as treatment and prognosis. Color atlases are nice but, if you want more info as to what to actually do about the disease, you might want to give this book a try.

Use Acne Messages Don't Just Read It

Review Date: 2005-08-06
It's sounds like the first reviewer only read the Amazon.com Look Inside pages to write a book for Acne Messages. Shall we say, incomplete review. Acne Messages answers a ton of questions about acne, from why people get acne as adults to what you should expect from your own anti-acne program. The book is full of solid research from medical journals and San-Joyz's own research on acne.

Anybody annoyed to death with acne and run of the mill acne advice will find this book to be a real breakthrough.

This book discusses hormones, nutrition, your state of mind and a whole lot of other stuff that you would think that has absolutely nothing to do with acne. She talks about what you do everyday, like self-talk to eating, and how this affects your immune system and hormones. She then tells you how these little things can turn into a zit. It's unbelievable, but when she shows, using facts from medical journals, how your everyday choices can cause zits, you have to take note.

She then shows you want to do to reverse a zit using a face chart and organ chart.

The book is decently organized. You can for instance find a whitehead on your forehead, and she shows you step-by-step what that particular zits means, what body parts are connected to that location and then what you can do right now to make the zit go away. And, you can do all this from your home without needing to go out and buy and a lot of expensive stuff.

Acne Messages really was like nothing I had ever read before about acne. I can gladly recommend it. Just use the whole book, from page one to the index, not just the first chapter.

Once you know what's wrong, you can make it right!

I know that we, acne sufferes, are vulnerable people that want to get rid of this condition that carries such a heavy stigma as quickly as possible.
But if you're considering buying this book and get the best out of it, read it with an open mind and a positive atitude.
San-Joyz offers an aproach other than the traditional methods used, which is more holistic as well as affordable.
The book is well organized and easy to read, but above all, you've got to put this knowledge into practice.
Like any other book of this kind it's up to you to decide what works for you and stick with it.
I never quite understood why I've had an acne outbreak. I'm 54 years old and had a pimple once in a while but nothing out of extraordinary.
In this book I've found out why my face was breaking out: I had a poor protein digestion wich provoked acne inflammations.
The reason I'm so sure of that is because when my acne problem starded I was on a high protein diet wich was particularly though on me, considering I'm vegetarian.
At that time I was chewing meat just enough to be able to swallow it quickly since I've never liked it much, and that led to a poor protein digestion.
I quit eating meat and replaced it with some protein bars, now my skin started clearing out.
So basically this is what this book does, it helps you find out the cause of your acne, so that you can heal thoroughly.
I have to agree with the author, acne does have a message for you. Thank you Naweko!
