Useful Approach to Diagnosis of Cutaneous DiseasesReview Date: 2008-07-24
Ko and Barr have attempted to break the problem down into recognizable changes that the non-specialist pathologist should be able to grasp. The color plates are good but not perfect. The publication process has been hard on the haematoxylin blues and purples. Nevertheless, largely because of the authors' presentation, this isn't overly important. This isn't a cytology text--patterns rather than submicroscopic detail are emphasized.
It works. I wish I'd had a similar text when I was studying pathology. I have little doubt that the use of this book will increase the accuracy of many cutaneous diagnoses.

My book arrived bent and rumpled just thrown in a box, unlike AMAZON'S usual great service.
After calling they did replace the book immediatly, the second book came shrink wrapped and packed properly.
These things happen and Amazon is great at rectifying them.

A Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary GuideReview Date: 2004-02-29
Wound Care Practice by Paul J. Sheffield,
PhD, Adrianne P.S. Smith, MD, and Caroline E. Fife, MD is the definitive text that fills that void. The focus of this book
is assessment and management of chronic wounds in a wound care practice setting. "Physicians, nurses, enterostomal therapists,
physical
therapists, and other health care professionals will find in this book the principles of modern, moist, interactive
wound care and the application of advanced therapies."
"This book represents the combined efforts of 60 authors selected
from basic sciences, clinical sciences, and clinical practice. The reader can examine the principles of managing the wound
and treating the underlying cause of pressure sores, vascular insufficiency, chronic venous insufficiency ulcers, diabetic/neurotrophic
foot ulcers, and other chronic wounds."
(Paul J. Sheffield, from the Preface).
Wound Care Practice is well organized
and divided into five main sections which include application chapters on defining and understanding the etiology of problem
wounds, principles of wound assessment, principles of wound management, pain, infection, adjunctive therapies, and healthcare
delivery.
The book also includes a helpful resource section that provides names, addresses, and contact information for
wound care product and technology manufacturers.
This book differs significantly from others of the same subject matter
in the holistic approach the authors have taken when examining each section's topic. An excellent example of this multidisciplinary
and holistic manner is readily available in the first chapter, "Etiology of the Problem Wound". In this
chapter the authors
offer a fascinating range of material that addresses oxygen and perfusion issues, the impact of nutrition and hydration, hematological
abnormalities, and socioeconomic issues. Yes, this is a text, but the effects of socioeconomic issues on wounds had my rapt
attention!
I highly recommend this book for anyone practicing or teaching wound care. The extensive photographs of actual
wounds as well as graphs and assessment tools in this book lead me to recommend it as a reference that should be made available
at nursing stations for quick reference as well. "Wound Care Practice"
would be a good addition to medical libraries,
for advanced practice nursing programs, and as a reference for practicing nurses in all settings. My vote = Five Stars!

Use Acne Messages Don't Just Read It Review Date: 2005-08-06
Anybody annoyed to death with acne and run of the mill acne advice will find this book to be a real breakthrough.
This book discusses hormones, nutrition, your state of mind and a whole lot of other stuff that you would think that has absolutely nothing to do with acne. She talks about what you do everyday, like self-talk to eating, and how this affects your immune system and hormones. She then tells you how these little things can turn into a zit. It's unbelievable, but when she shows, using facts from medical journals, how your everyday choices can cause zits, you have to take note.
She then shows you want to do to reverse a zit using a face chart and organ chart.
The book is decently organized. You can for instance find a whitehead on your forehead, and she shows you step-by-step what that particular zits means, what body parts are connected to that location and then what you can do right now to make the zit go away. And, you can do all this from your home without needing to go out and buy and a lot of expensive stuff.
Acne Messages really was like nothing I had ever read before about acne. I can gladly recommend it. Just use the whole book, from page one to the index, not just the first chapter.
Once you know what's wrong, you can make it right!Review Date: 2006-09-06
But if you're considering buying this book and get the best out of it, read it with an open mind and a positive atitude.
San-Joyz offers an aproach other than the traditional methods used, which is more holistic as well as affordable.
The book is well organized and easy to read, but above all, you've got to put this knowledge into practice.
Like any other book of this kind it's up to you to decide what works for you and stick with it.
I never quite understood why I've had an acne outbreak. I'm 54 years old and had a pimple once in a while but nothing out of extraordinary.
In this book I've found out why my face was breaking out: I had a poor protein digestion wich provoked acne inflammations.
The reason I'm so sure of that is because when my acne problem starded I was on a high protein diet wich was particularly though on me, considering I'm vegetarian.
At that time I was chewing meat just enough to be able to swallow it quickly since I've never liked it much, and that led to a poor protein digestion.
I quit eating meat and replaced it with some protein bars, now my skin started clearing out.
So basically this is what this book does, it helps you find out the cause of your acne, so that you can heal thoroughly.
I have to agree with the author, acne does have a message for you. Thank you Naweko!

Along with the book you also get the access to the Student Consult online which I think still needs improvement. The software took a lot of time to synchronize with my PDA and it generates many un-coded letters.
But anyhow, this book itself is worth the price. A must read for new dermatologists.
