I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK. IT IS VERY INFORMATIVE, AND THE DIRECTIONS ARE VERY CLEAR AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. I WOULD RECOMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM AND HOW TO USE MANUAL TECHNIQUES TO DRAIN THEM.

Not at all for lymphedema patients but otherwise a good view of lymph drainage for peoplele with less compromised or healthy lymph systems.

CONFUSING - INCOMPLETE - POORLY LAID OUT

After purchasing and reviewing several books, I have found this one to be the poorest. I train estheticians in LDM, and cannot use this book for my text. Flipping back and forth through the book, I had a hard time finding the information I needed in one place for a specific topic, such as the major nodal groups and their names - I gave up - no diagram, missing nodal groups. On page 11 (diagram)- some nodal groups are noted, but many are missing - aren't there lymph nodes in the legs? and in the arms?? Many people with lymphedema (or just edema) have swelling in the legs, feet, or ankles, and in the arms... How will this help them? The instructions for "massage" are easy to understand with great pictures for each step, but much of the instruction leads one to use their own personal definition of massage rather than skin stretching.
A good picture book, but not a good reference or study book.
But - I will say it is a good step-by-step instruction for anyone with a family member that needs LDM - with caution: follow the instructions carefully, step by step.
Personally, I like the "Foundations of Manual Lymph Drainage" - by Michael Foldi and Roman Strossenreuther much better. A little scientific for the novice, but has much more information for better understanding, and the chapters are more complete, which saves much time flipping back and forth searching in the Milady's book. Also, the DVD by Sean Riehl is very educational.

I found this book very american. It skimmed the theory and dangerously avoided dangers of treating non healthy clients.I found the instructions confusing and unhelpful. I would not recommend this book.

I purchased this book to help with my husbands lymph drainage problem. His sister is a Physical Therapist and has looked over the book and says it is a great book. I also like it for the pictures that it includes and the "self Help" section so that he can do the exercises without always having to have me to do them. Thanks for such a great book.

Big disappointment

The author states that her program is easy and inexpensive and that the ingredients can be found in any drug store or natural foods market.

First of all, the ingredients (good luck finding them) are expensive. I've gone to several drug stores and natural food markets and have not been able to find all the ingredients.

Secondly, the ingredients are expensive, and contrary to what others have mentioned in their reviews, they don't last that long. Sounded like most reviewers hadn't started the program quite yet and were swayed by the author's claims.

Lastly, this book, as well as the follow up, "Grow Hair Fast," are extremely poorly written. As a matter of fact, the 2 books are nearly identical to one another. I guess if the guidelines listed were truly easy and inexpensive, then everybody would be doing it, and the big drug companies wouldn't have any products on the market for hair loss.

Another rip-off, please save your money

I've read the book.

One look at the "testimonial" pictures in the back and you'll know this is worse than a rip-off.

Because she is intructing you to go thru a laborious, time-consuming process. And even her own customer's before and after pics are a joke.

How I stopped hair loss

This is not an actual review, because I haven't read the book. I just wanted to share a hair loss recipe with you good people - the one that helped me.

I am a woman, 32 years old. I have had my hair falling out at above average rate since puberty. For a woman, a number of hairs falling out shouldn't be more than 70 per day. I would say that for me it was probably around 200. I was used to seeing bunches of hairs in the sink after washing it, on the pillow, on clothes. Then, few months ago, few factors (hairdresser made a horrible mistake, I made serious changes in my diet and was under a lot of stress) added up and for the next three months I was losing hair at the rate 500 (very roughly - I didn't actually count, but every time I ran fingers through my hair, I would have hairs in my hand). I thought I would end up bald. Then, I found a recipe on the Internet (bless it), and after using it every day, I can testify that it really works! Within the first month, the hair loss returned to normal (what was normal for me - maybe 200 hairs a day), and within the second month, my hair loss became less than average - I would say less than 50 hairs a day! The sink is almost empty after washing hair. I actually solved the problem I have been having my whole adult life.

The recipe:
1 1/2 cup of dry nettle
1/2 cup chopped onion
Put in a container, add enough rubbing alcohol to cover. After a few days (or more), strain and use liquid to massage scalp once a day.

Again and again we as patient are mislead and now we see how they are trying to sway others to accept they are great surgeons. Com on. How many Dematologist can pretend to be something they are not and will never be? How many have wrote books who are either removed from pratice all together or have been the people who have harmed many? This is another misleading example of some trying mislead and bring harm to even more. They are nothing but two Dermatologist and not close to being surgeons. In thsi day it seems just about any can pretend to be something, how demeaning to the real Doctors and the well educated. Any fools who buy this book need to be handing out thousand dollar bills on every corner. Just another couple of phoneys in the Medical world. When will it all get stopped?
The only ones to read this will be more of the same types.

In regards to Beverly's previous post - you are correct - the only who read this are more of the same types. This book is NOT meant for patients. This book is meant for dermatologic surgeons to augment their practice. Dermatologists are surgeons - clearly Beverly has no medical experience or knowledge. A surgeon is someone who performs surgery - the average dermatologist performs more skin surgeries (biopsies, laser treatments (which incidentally were pioneered by dermatologists), liposuction (which also were incidentally pioneered by dermatologists), and excisions than any other physician including plastic surgeons. Please do some research before making unnecessary purchases and comments.

Yes, Beverly, more of the same types will read this book. It is meant for medical professionals, and as it is written, is very informative and helpful in terms of approach to, and improvement in, patient care. In response to your comment about 'real doctors', dermatologists are just that. All physicians attend medical school, undergo an internship period and proceed to concentrate more in their chosen specialty. Dermatologists, in addition to practicing the medical care of skin, are surgeons. Spend a day with any one of them and you will know that.

This is a book of review questions including a discussion for each answer. This book is extremely useful for ophthalmology residents as well as recent grads preparing for the boards. it covers all topics in an easy to use format.

I bought this book as a question book for studying for the OKAPS during my second year of residency. I had already used the Chern review book and Chern question book the year before. This book has far more questions than the Chern book. This book also covers some topics that are not covered well or at all in the Chern book such as pathology, fundamentals, general medicine, and refractive surgery. The problem I have with this book is that the questions themselves are not high yield. There are a LOT of questions on minutia. While the Chern question book had fewer questions, I found that the content covered in Chern was more relevant to what showed up on the OKAPS. But if you have extra time, use this book too. And I suspect that much of the "minutia" in this book wont seem like minutia anymore when studying for the real boards. Anyway, I would recommend this book for some additional questions to work after the Chern question book.

As a side note, its true there are some errors in the book, but there aren't that many

Needs editing!

I bought this review book in order to prepare for my written boards in 2004. I found that there were numerous mistakes in the answer sections making this a very hard review manual to get through. I would not recommend this book if you are preparing for boards. I would get Chern's review manual and question and answer book for board review studying.

List table format in 27 topics, as previous reader mentioned, it's like an encyclopedia. The author tried to include everything. There is no index. To find the information, you have to decide which chapter to go to (hopefully, you are right) and then find the specific item you are looking for and end up with a useless long list of disease or pathology names. For example, under peudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia which is in Dermatopathology signs and their diseases, it lists irregular proliferation of epidermis into dermis; atypical mycobacteria; atypical bibroxanthoma,...ulcers (chronic) (a total of over 50 conditions).

I don't know how I could ever be able make any use of this book.

This small but comprehensive book is the ultimate in lists. Virtually every minute detail required for a complete presentation of a differential diagnosis or board preparation is here. All the named syndromes are listed and there is an excellent compilation of information about medications, their side effects, uses and interactions. This book is encyclopedic and well worth owning.

I am a dermatology resident and feel this book is a great aid for derm residents in the clinic and hospital setting. (Especially for grand rounds and consults!) The pictures and the syndrome section are good for board study. I think the book would also be useful for a general practioner diagnosing derm. disorders as the pictures and lists are organized by location and appearance of the primary lesion.

A Rip-off!

Among all the med books I have bought in my life, this book disappointed me the most. I bought it since it came with PDA version, when no decent PDA software was available in dermatology.

Although this book is titled "Differential diagnosis," it only differentiates diseases depending on location and symptom. It does not mention risk factors, age, sex, co-morbidities, etc, which will guide us toward a certain disease.

Yes, you can download the whole content of this book (incl 650 images) if you buy this book and scrath off the sticker on the book. However, the interface of the software is not mature enough, and it is difficult to navigate thru the software (unlike Skyscape software). Plus, the quality of the images, as you can imagine, are awful.

When we can try most of the PDA software titles on the market before buying them, it is not fair not to let us try this expensive book+software combo.

Once you scratch off the sticker, you can not return the book any more. I am really disappointed.

I was looking for a book to give grooming and clipping information that I could use on my mixed breed dog. This book does include some information on those subjects (maybe 20 pages on clipping) but not enough for me to feel comfortable clipping my dog.

The majority of this book (over 40 pages) is devoted to skin disorders and how to treat them. Perhaps this will be useful later but it was not really what I was looking for.

Ok, but not the best

The book has usefull information, for example the steps you should follow in washing your dog or cat, but is very vague in the cuts for specific breeds. This book is perfect as an introduction for a more complete guide to grooming pets.

This short treatise on the causes of and remedies for thinning hair ranks at the top of my list of all-time worthless and pretentious bunk. In short, the author holds that thinning hair is caused by combing your locks the wrong way. Too much and in the wrong direction, and it falls out. Forget about other causes: like malnutrition, emotional stress, hormonal imbalance, heredity, environmental toxicity, aging, etc. Just brush it backwards and watch your sink fill with loose hairs. Don't waste your time and money on this bald and toothless argument wearing a false and flowery academic wig.
