Good book for beginners

I purchased this book for our 2 PA's. It has a lot of basic surgical tips and some more advanced pearls that were a good review for the experienced derm surgeon. I originally saw this book at a conference and pretty much "read" it cover-to-cover during a snack coffee break.

It is a good book for derm residents for improving their surgical skills and for tips and tricks. Very practical information that can come in handy day-to-day in the clinic.

I am a dermatopathologist in training, and got this book for synthesis of information. The color photographs are great, but the explanations are very brief. This book is more for someone who just wants a quick overview of a condition, rather than a detailed text.

I love it, though it is not sufficient for me in the end of my dermatology training. A very good choice for students, too.
Structure, content, and physical set-up is good, very good, I think.
This book maybe needs a second edition, regarding classification and some of the treatment options.

More on the skin than the eye

There are a lot of unusual diseases in this book. At least, unusual to the ophthalmologist. In other words, the focus seems to be on dermatologic disorders that may have ocular findings rather than ophthalmologic disorders that may have integumentary findings. That is part of what makes this book great for ophthalmologists.

The text is well written, but as it is with most books like this, the key features of a diseases are not emphasized as compared to a laundry list of findings. Also, little discussion exists on treatment. The chapter organization is good and the chapters are not overly long. The pictures, in general, are very good. However, there are a number of diseases in this "ATLAS" with no associated picture. And, the organization of the pictures is a little weird.

But, overall, I do recommend this book for ophthalmologists interested in rare diseases or "systemic disease." This book complements the kanski book on systemic disease and the one by Weingeist.
