The authors seem to think so, and you might also after reading this. There is a lot of controversy surrounding head lice today. This book is a great reference to the variety of techniques as well as a delightfully entertaining guide to their own chosen style of eliminating the determined pests. The book treats the readers with respect. The straight forward honesty of the writers is refreshing and funny.

On a basis of an evolutive and hystorical perspective, Immune Crossover raises some new and original hypothesis about immunity and autoimmunity. Written in simple words, even without being a specialist you will be able to understand it and to enjoy it. If you are a immunologist, you will realize that "I.C." is a good book for opening your mind.

Nowadays unifying the increasing number of disciplines could be the key to reveal the secrets of those aspects of nature which remain incomprehensible to us. Following this line and containing some very original hypothesis, this book is an attempt to board immunology from a different perspective, a perspective that turns to be attractive not only for the specialized immunologist, but for anyone interested in the subject.

If you ever owned the old McKee - mine is falling apart from constant use - this is bigger and better than the first. If you are a practicing dermatologist and read your own slides or if you are in residency - this is a must have book. The text is well written, the clinical correlation is excellent and the pathology and histo-path images are superb. I don't know how I could have made it through residency or the boards without this book. This and Andrew's are my two most go-to books on a daily basis. This book will not collect dust on your shelf.

A Superb Textbook

I am a practicing general pathologist. While I don't see a lot of skin cases, some of them are very challenging. It is most helpful to have a book such as this that integrates the clinical and pathologic so well. The clinical and microscopic photos are all color and superb. Electron micrographs are included where appropriate. One drawback is the lack of an algorithmic approach to inflammatory dermatoses. Still, the encyclopedic nature and detailed descriptions of these disorders is par excellent. The included CD-ROM is very useful.
In sum, a wonderful text that should be on every surgical pathologist's shelf.

This marvelous book in its present two-volume reincarnation is an outstanding contribution to the science of diagnostic dermatopathology. I have owned the previous edition, and together with Dr David Weedon's book, have used both these texts almost exclusively in my clinical practice. Although I have other texts (Levers, Murphy, Pinkus) I have tended to use the latter less or not at all for my routine work.
The present edition fortifies the text with the addition of new chapters on oral mucosal pathology and importantly, discusses the problematic area of the cutaneous manifestations of drug reactions. The photomicrographs and clinical images are outstanding and, in my opinion, are the best in its class. The book is pretty expensive, but if you had to buy only one book, then this is the one I would recommend

Overall Evaluation of the IDDE

Exemplary work. It is well organized, easy to use, exhaustive, up-to-date and rigorously researched and cross-referenced. Because of its excellent cross referencing, it is also a fabulous launching pad for doing in-depth research. Furthermore, its appendix on acronyms and abbreviations is unparalleled.

Note
This is an excerpt from the in-depth review I have written for the Dictionary Review Committee of the American Translators Association. For those interested, it will be published in the July 2005 issue of the ATA "Chronicle" and will be accompanied by a brief interview with its main author, Benjamin Barankin, and by short biographical information of its three physician authors.

Although in writing this review I have compared the IDDE to comprehensive general medical dictionaries and to other dermatology dictionaries such as Carter's (1992) "A Dictionary of Dermatologic Terms" and to Goeltzenleuchter's (2002) "Dorland's Dermatology Word Book," in all fairness to these earlier and less focused dictionaries, and as a challenge to the newly-issued IDDE, I opted to make my strongest comparison primarily with online sources on medical eponyms. According to Dr. Barankin, the IDDE was three years in the making, and, in spite of it being a paper publication, the relevance and actuality of its content favorably compares to Internet databases (a number of them restricted) that are regularly updated. Now that Barankin, Metelitsa and Lin have done the work for us in compiling this unrestricted corpus of the hardest terminology in dermatology (eponyms and acronyms) between two covers for quick, comprehensive, and easy reference, conducting additional research in dermatology terminology has been simplified. For medical translators this book is not only informative, it is a time-saver.

I read this book within a matter of days, it's perfect for the beach or if your pennies don't stretch that far then you should read it with a box of chocolates and a glass of wine within easy reach. You will not be able to think about anything else until you have finished it, and even then thoughts will keep popping into your head.

About the best book Dr Walker has ever written. This will always be his classic masterpiece, his epitaph even.

A stunning text that delivers the scientific insight expected from a Dr Walker publication. The revelation here though, and in essence what separates this book from others, is the development of the scientist (and one time 'enfant terrible' of Psychology!) as a story teller. One hesitates to use the word genius - a term all too frequently applied in these celebrity obsessed times - but history will certainly look upon this title very favourably.

If you only read one dermatology self help book this year, then make sure that it's this one!

He does not knock alternative skin treatments but gives them a fair analysis. Moreover, Pugliese speaks you to as a caring skin care professional and offers ongoing advise for how your make your business a blessing to your clients and financially rewarding for you. I'm warning you though, if you get one of his books you're gonna want more. The information is there, it's fun to read and it's clear.

Each time I pick it up, I learn something new and I use it for back up notes in my instruction. If you are an Esthetician or Cosmetologists who loves skin care this is a must. Treasure it and pick up his other book, Physiology of the Skin. Enjoy it and learn, learn, learn!

Definitive Drug Therapy

Review Date: 2001-07-18
The much thinner first edition of this book has been the definitive source for dermatology therapy for ten years. Now, a revised, more comprehensive version details all aspects of drug therapy for dermatologists, and other physicians treating cutaneous disorders. From topical agents to systemic therapies commonly used to treat skin disease to cosmetic agents, this book is all inclusive. A standardized format presents the different drugs in a consistent fashion and tables emphasize important drug interactions and present monitoring guidelines for commonly and uncommonly used medications.

In addition to listing and reviewing FDA approved indications for medications, commonly used "off-label" indications are also listed and the literature supporting their use is given.

Sections of the book are also dedicated to less commonly discussed topics around drug therapy, such as pharmacoeconomics, FDA approval process, and medicolegal issues surrounding drug therapy.

This will be an importantant resource for dermatologists, dermatology residents, medical students, and all physicians who treat skin disease.

Dr. Wolverton has created what will long be a classic of dermatologic texts. This book begins with basic pharmacologic principles and covers all of the major classes of drugs that are used to treat skin diseases including rarely used compounds such as clofazimine. Each drug is discussed from chemical structure to pharmacokinetics to mechanism of action, etc., with handy little tables that nicely supplement the text. The clinical use sections discuss findings of key medical articles and a section on off-label uses discusses case reports of the drugs' use in rarer conditions. Dosages and weight-based dosing tables are included.

There are good sections on other topical compounds (sunscreens, cosmetics, insect repellants). Phototherapy with psoralens and photopheresis have good reviews as well. Several chapters discuss the side effects of major drug classes.

This book is excellent all the way around and is not only a good reference for practicing dermatologists but is helpful also as a stand-up text for residents to read all the way through.

I read this book with amazement at the suffering the Jewish doctors, in particular dermatologists. This book is written beautifully, almost like a poem. There is no over-dramatization of what actually happened. The story of these doctors is dramatic in and of itself. No embellisments here, just unadulterated history. An eye-opening, heart-wrenching book.

This is not another book about medical experimentation on Jews during the Holocaust. It is an account of what happened to hundreds of physicians during the Nazi era. As the Nazis "coordinated" medicine, Jewish physicians were dismissed from their clinics and teaching positions and replaced by Nazi supporters whose medical skills were mediocre at best.

Weyers focuses on dermatologists because it was traditionally a field of medicine heavily populated by Jews. Weyers is also a dermatologist and dermatopatholgist himself.

The displaced dermatologists whose stories are documented by Weyers either went into hiding, committed suicide, or fled from Germany. Their stories are poignant, and the inclusion of postage stamp size photos of them is a very effective touch.

Highly recommended for anyone--not just physicians--who is interested in Holocaust studies or medical ethics

An excellent book for all interested in history or medicine.

The author begins with some background into the origins of antisemitism in germany which serves to frame the topic. He then provides a richly detailed accounting of how the effects of Nazi policies affected many of the most famous dermatologists of the era. He also reveals the apathy of the academic community in germany towards the plight of their jewish colleages.
