This is just what I was looking for! Clear, easy to read, up-to-date and yet thorough. This book takes just a few pages
to summarize the key features of all of the major systemic drugs (including biologics) used in dermatology--even their off-label
uses. I really enjoy the brief history of each drug (e.g.: "The German chemist Schweckendick first reported the successful
use of systemic fumaric acid esters (FAEs) in psoriasis in 1959. He suffered from the disease, and experimented on himself
with various forms of fumarate, hypothesizing that these would improve an underlying disturbance in the citric acid cycle."
-p. 146), as well as the excellent section on Monitoring each drug. This is high-quality and very useful clinically!

Fans of Andersen and any who would study his works would do well to include Jack Zipes' Hans Christian Andersen: The Misunderstood
Storyteller on their lists of supplemental reading material: it's based on over thirty years of researching and writing on
Andersen and explores his writings and their reception in the English-speaking world. Chapters discuss posthumous recognition,
themes of childhood and children in his tales, and his ability to portray role reversals to make readers think. A scholarly,
quite insightful study evolves.

This book is a goldmine of treatments for the hair and skin.
For instance, minoxidil is a scalp lotion utilized for
baldness and promotion of hair stabilization/growth. Itchy skin
may be caused by inorganic irritants, soaps, ammonia and
other forms of detergents. Hair is composed of a shaft, sheath, bulb, papilla and blood vessels of the head. Acne may be managed with sulfur-based compounds and salicyclic acid solutions or
tetracycline antibiotics. Metallic contaminants consist of
nickel, chromium, Hg in jewelry, zippers, clasps, household
utensils and dental amalgums. Signs of abnormalities in the
skin consist of asymmetry, indistinct borders, colors
(brown, black, red or blue), abnormal changes in size, elevation,
surface characteristics and pigmentation. Excessive sweating
may be managed with a 20% aluminum chloride solution in pure
alcohol. ( hyperhidrosis )

Though published in 1980, this well-written book provides a number of timeless points about herpes infection. The book provides
a good explanation of the two types of herpes simplex, how they are transmitted, and what these infections mean for those
involved. Though written with a significant amount or scientific detail, it is readable and informative to anyone wanting
a better understanding about infection by herpes simplex. As the author states, "knowledge is power and hope" to those affected
by this disease.

The field of melanocytic lesions is far from precise, but this book attempts to break down the individual criteria necessary
to render a diagnosis on nearly all of the pigmented lesions. The writing is very easy to read along with and many times,
it almost feels like you are double-scoping the case with the author. I'm sure there are some points within the text that
others would consider controversial, but from a 'broadening my point of view' approach - I have enjoyed this text immensely.

Detailed information on lymphomas of the skin is extremely rare. Actual diagnosis is very hard as patients go from doctor
to doctor. This book, while aimed a bit more towards professionals, is still is a wealth of information for the patient or
loved one who looks for information on cutaneous/skin lymphomas when it is not obtainable elsewhere.
While the photos may be a bit much for a person newly diagnosed, a patient who has lived with such a lymphoma would value the information in the book.
