Well done reference on APD
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-22
Although all entries in this book are worthwhile reading for the audiologist interested in learning more about auditory processing disorders (APD), the chapters by Bhatnagar & Korabic(Neuroanatomy), Whitelaw & Yuskow (Neuromaturation), and Parthasarathy (Electrophysiologic Assessment) are particularly well done and provide concise and well-written information for both the practicing clinician and the AuD student. This is a "must" for the audiologist who is involved in doing and learning more about APD.

My name is Jody.My life is anything but scary Its my first day at school. We have gym class and there are two girls Sandy and Carol staring at me.When suddenly Sandy and Carol push me into the water.
My life turned terrible at that moment because I was drowning.I went to my locker where there stood Sandy and Carol they had told me that the water wasnt even deep so I wouldnt drown.
Me,being the writer, was scared and amazed by the book Jody because what if someone didnt know how to swim when suddenly someone else pushed them into the water.I was amazed because at the end something happend. What happend?
I strongly recommend this book to both Females and Males because this book leaves readers with a story and character that are impossible to forget. You will never forget the feelings and emotions of the character, you will never forget the feelings and emotions of the character because at first Jody was scared of water and at the end everything changed.I think its important for both Females and Males to feel what this character felt in this book wich is filled with exiting, and feelings/emotions.

A very personal insight into deaf education
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-05
Listening to Deafness is a must-read for anyone interested in deaf education. In the book, Denton takes the reader on a very personal journey of the triumphs and frustrations of his 30 year career as a leading deaf educator.

Denton's life is intricately woven with the history of the Maryland School for the Deaf, and indeed the history of deaf education in the United States. As the developer of Total Communication, Dr. Denton fought against the traditional, oral-only deaf teaching methodology and encouraged deaf educators worldwide to embrace the full spectrum of communication methods including sign language, finger spelling, gestures, lip reading, speech, reading, and writing. He viewed the Total Communication movement as a human rights movement, and reading this book, it's easy to see why.

I really liked this book and had a hard time putting it down. If you are hard of hearing, deaf, or just can't hear that well this book is for you. It has real life stories of people struggling with hearing loss and Dr. Harvey does a great job of telling them. I felt like I could relate to some of the patients.

Luczak's book includes a short story, a play, a self-interview, and a record of lessons he has learned so far on being an artist. It is an introduction to Deaf culture for anyone new to the world of deafness and enriching for those already familiar with it. He shares many ideas of what art should be--some of them surprising--all of them inspiring. It's a book you will want to read with a pencil in your hand so that you can mark the parts that touch you.

A welcome and much-needed contribution
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-05
Edited by professors Brenda Jo Brueggemann and Susan Burch, Women and Deafness: Double Visions is an anthology of essays by learned authors discussing deafness and deaf identity in the context of women's studies, and vice versa. Pieces contemplate why Hellen Keller, perhaps the most famous deaf woman of all, is remembered primarily as a champion specifically of the blind; the issue of mothers raising their children according to oralist dictates "like ordinary hearing children"; the significance and impact of the Deaf American Beauty Pageant, and much more. A welcome and much-needed contribution addressing serious gaps in both women's studies and deaf studies reference shelves.
