Infant and Toddlers in Out-of-Home Care does a good job covering the different areas of development including cognitive, speech/language,
and social development. It also covers illnesses that are common amoung young children in out-of-home settings in much detail.
Although this book is very informative it is heavy with studies adn statistics which make it very difficult to read and uderstand.
A reader will find it necessary to review the information more than once to gain the full meaning of the text. I would recommend
this book only as a college text when others are not available and would not recommended it for simple general interest reading.

I found this book at the Pre-school I work at. It was an interesting story about a boy losing his older sibling who started
kindegarten. So he has to go about his daily life without his older sibling to help him. I was shocked when I read the
authors name. I loved Not a Swan and had to snag this book from work and keep it for my very own. This is truly a good
book to read to a child whose older brother or sister is going to kindegarten and they get left behind. My younger sister
read the book and said she remembers feeling the same way when I left her for my fancy life at Kindegarten. Anyways, a
nice book, good pictures and a must have for all Michelle Magorian fans.

I cannot say anything better than the previous reviewer. Kelly was rightly found to be innocent, but not until she spent
about 5 years falsely imprisoned. That is the real story we need to hear.

Ms. Crowley's story is gut-wrenching. Readers will be shocked, it's hard to imagine how these atrocities could occur. It
fills you with a sense of disbelief - and it should. Unfortunately, the case against Kelly Michaels was just one in a string
of ritual sex abuse cases during the 1980's that has been disproven. Kelly Michaels' conviction was later overturned. I
don't expect Ms. Crowley to believe in Kelly Michael's innocence, she's spent nearly 20 years believing the version of events
given to her by the inept investigators in this case. I'm sure her daughter believes she is a child abuse survivor as well.
It must have been horrible for the families of these children to hear all the things that supposedly happened to their children
and they have years of guilt and anger that they've dealt with because of this. The evidence does not support the claims
of the investigators, though. The saddest part about this story is that all these lives were sent into turmoil needlessly.

I thought the product was a very helpfull tool for the few bucks i paid. it gives good advice + you realize that it's true
that sexy is always a plus. You know it, but you don't do it, that is were this comes in, it tells you that you HAVE to do
it in order to feel emotionally and physically healthy everyday.
One cliche after another, read over-dramatically.

I purchased these tapes expecting some thoughtful advice on how to transform my image. Instead, I was treated to a string
of the worst teeny bopper magazine cliches and a good deal of "purple prose", all delivered in a desperately overwrought
manner by the reader. The prose was startling in its incorrect use of the English language, at points. What positive advice
it might have had to offer, i.e. sexiness isn't about whether you look like Cindy Crawford, or not, was immediately contradicted
by a long treatise on how much more sexy you are if you're lean and muscular.

This book is avaluable resource because it focuses the readeron functional not theoretical information. There are practical
anduseful materials that are readily available to use either as is or as samples to be customized. This book has a strong
business sense which many child development professionals need in order to run a well managed business as well as a developmentally
appropriate program. We are in the business of serving children and this book addressed that in an easy to read manner. Very
good value for child development professionals at all levels! END

This book has a very elementary introduction to hiring with very little focus on the child care industry. It appears to be
primarily a vehicle for the author to sell expensive pre-employment screening tests and thus the author has left all of the
meat out of the book. There is one good section on performance appraisals, but again they are not specifically related to
child care and can be found in better general books on hiring.

I beleive Lisa Manshel was fair and wise in her taking the sides of the children. Anyone who could believe Kelly Michaels
didn't sexually abuse the children in her care must not have children. This book was written about Miss Michael's first trial,
and in my opinion, the "True Justice" trial. In 1993 (long after the book was published) the decision was overturned because
of the judge's questioning of the children. Because the judge screwed up enough to make some appeals court overturn the ruling
does not mean the children lied. Kelly Michaels was out at first, only because of posted bail ($75,000) and the state couldn't
afford to try her again...And the poor children. Tsk tsk tsk.

This is one of those books thats well written in descriptions but as far as it's real "truth", then you either believe what
you read, or don't. However, I think the author may have overdone it a little . she repeated the same htings over and over
in the story. She had good descriptions and the way she writes is pretty good. But really, you probably should make sure that you get in the entire story before you publish it.. There is always more than one side of the story.
At the end of the book, there hsould have been an update saying that Kelly was later aquitted and let go after being in jail for a few years. It DID seem a little biased in opinion. I do believe that authors of true crime books are just writing to tell what happened, based on truth, not on what THEY think happened or should have happened.
I feel thats what a lot of this book was. Good writing style, but very repeptitve. I'd say if you were ot read this book. YOu could read the first 3 chapters, and the last 3 and get away with it. YOu'd know what happened without all the other unnecessary stuff..

This story is based on the case of the child sexual abuse trial of Kelly Michaels, told from the prosecutors point of view.
To bring people up to date Kelly's conviction was overturned by the appeals court because, on review, the interviews of the
children were so tainted by leading questions that they couldn't be believed. This book is best read as a "what can go wrong"
when over-zealous prosecutors with tunnel vision decide to create a case against someone. (The author was closely tied to
the prosecution.) Kelly Michaels story is not unique, The McMartin and Amirault cases come to mind.
The only value this book has, and the only reason to read it, is to see what can go wrong with these cases and to prevent this from happening again.

I can't believe that people are still even looking at this book, the product of the 1980's daycare abuse "witch hunt."
For those who have given this a 5-star rating, or have passed it on to others to read--shame on you! You need to do a little research before you believe the first thing you read. Michaels' conviction was completely overturned--there was absolutely no evidence of any of the alleged crimes actually taking place.
This author ought to be ashamed of herself, as well, for writing such a total pack of lies, and trying to pass it off as truth.
I give this one star, since there is no lower rating available...

A previous reviewer wrote: "If your child reacts to this book---Know that something is very wrong."
What is very wrong is showing this book to a child! ANY healthy, non-abused child will "react" to this book. It is very scary and not for kids!
Children have very active imaginations and are easily led to create reality out of fantasies: monsters under the bed, magical friends, etc. When adults reinforce and react to these fantasies with fear and anxiety, the imaginations may become permanent, scarring memories... memories of events which never took place.
The abuse IS real, and the abusers are the parents who introduce this material to their healthy children and terrify them.
For shame to anyone who gives this book to a child.
That being said, it's a fascinating and scary book, a good novelty gift for anyone with an interest in sociology, urban legends, or mass hysteria.

SRA was a horrible black spot in our society's culture. Few other controversies in America's history (except for the witch
trials) have been so blatantly religiously slanted but the SRA scare. I'm not denying that there are and were sick people
in the world who somehow get it into their heads that by ceremoniously harming undeserving individuals and killing innocent
animals (for something other than food), they would be rewarded in the afterlife. But this is ridiculous, there have been
christians who did this exact sort of thing but it is never called "CRA" and the same goes for every religion. Satanism in
no way condones needlessly and ritually killing or physically harming humans or animals (within reason, I mean, an ant isn't
exactly easy to avoid killing). This is so idiculous it's frightening that someone would write a children's book supporting
the idea of SRA. I'm no fan of censorship, but frankly this is sad, the whole idea of false memory was based on stupid books
like this that's whole aim is to put these images into people's heads as small children. There are sick people in the world,
be they satanists, christians, muslims, pagans, wiccans, hindus, buddhists, zoroastrians, jews, etc. etc. ad infinitum.

This book presents an overview of what's involved in running a childcare business. It's good reading if you are not sure about
starting your own day care and want to know what sort of things to expect. The book employs a short, quick style which includes
tips and checklists, and makes this a book you can get through in just a couple of sittings. There are some reproducible forms
included in the text as well.
The author spoke with a variety of people who started their own child care service and each of the chapters is based on their own direct experiences. There is also a chapter on starting a child's transportation service.
Despite the fact that this seems like a primer book, the marketing chapter had more tips for established businesses as opposed to new businesses.
There is an appendix with contact information for some agencies and services mentioned in the book.
If you are looking for a book with a bit more substance, I would recommend Opening & Operating A Successful Child Care Center Opening & Operating A Successful Child Care Center

This book gave the most basic and general information about opening a child care service. It claims to cover both centers
and family day care, but really only discusses centers in any depth. This is NOT the book for anyone looking to open a family
day care. It covers information that people should already know anyway (except that it does write about how many mops and
trash cans centers should have). Please don't waste your money on this one. Steelsmith's book is MUCH better - you will
get a lot more out of that one!
