I used this book to train my son who was at that time 30 months old. I had never tried to train him previously. I didn't want to do the work. I read the book cover to cover twice. I eliminated the doll b/c I was lazy. The techniques worked like a charm. He was trained in 3 hours. You MUST follow the directions to eliminate the diapers. If you don't the kid will keep wetting their pants. My son had one accident that first week, one the week after, and one the week after that. He never had another one. I now have twin daughters. I plan to use the book to train them this weekend. I have no idea if it will work with twins or not, b/c they tend to distract each other.

AMAZING!

I am soooo glad that I got this book. My son is 2 months shy of 3 yrs old. We haven't potty trained due to moving and a lot of changes. Finally, I thought it was time. I figured that for the price of this book, that it was worth the try. At first I was discouraged because I didn't want to go out and buy a doll that wets. I just used his favorite bear and used a medicine dropper behind it to pee. We really didn't need the bear for that long. He trained the bear on the little potty, but he used a little kid seat that sits on the toilet and got on the big potty with a stool. He felt like a big boy on it.

I read the book twice, typed out an entire outline for it and a cheat sheet for myself to refer back to because the book is not in an outline. I followed the book religiously other than the 10 practice drills (we did 5). It is hard work. Hard work, but well worth it. I was stern, not mean or degrading, and gave praise galore (step by step-just like the book says to move him up one step thereafter). I didn't know how well he would respond to me as I am a stay at home mom so the "special attention" from me wouldn't be so "special", I thought.

We started on a Saturday. My husband took our other son out so it was just my oldest and I in the house. We worked and trained for about 4 hours. He seemed to have it, but I think I moved too quickly through a couple steps and he was starting to have more accidents than success. So I decided to start over on Sunday. It took 2hrs and he got it down. I suggest you dont move too quickly or skip steps!

He had two accidents the first two days (each day) and the next two days he had one accident (each day) and none after that. The primary reason that he had them (accidents were in the bathroom)were due to him not pulling his pants down quick enough. We practiced and emphasized the hurry part of pulling down pants. As the book suggests make sure his pants are loose. We used cotton pj shorts because his undies were too tight to train in and he got VERY frustrated.

One amazing thing for us was that the first night, he got up at 1am and went potty but, between then and wake up time he messed the bed. However, ever since then he has kept a dry bed and wakes up to potty or just goes when he wakes in the morning!! wow!!

I feel like this training helped him become more obedient in matters other than training as well! I really feel like we have bonded more due to this process as well. I am so proud of him and he is very proud of himself. I just can't believe what wonders this works! Thanking God for the help and VERY grateful for this book! Amazing!

I highly recommend this book if you are willing to take on the hard work (especially with a stong willed child). The payoff is great. Like I said, it's like he respects me more and we are even more bonded.

~ONE HAPPY MOMMY~

It absolutely works!

I'm so glad this book is still in print. I used this book in about 1977 to potty train my daughter. She was almost 2 and by about 1:00 PM she had it! No more diapers at all! She was dry at night too. I thought it was absolutely amazing!

A great book

I bought this book mostly because of the title. After reading the book and assessing my son's skills I really believed he was ready physically even though he didn't show any direct interest in learning to use the potty (he never asked to use it or really talked about it). I first tried to train him on my own as the book suggests, unfortunately it was a terrible failure where we were both crying and frustrated. My son is incredibly stubborn and willfully disobedient in all areas and this was no exception. I waited a few weeks and got my husband to help. We worked together and encouraged each other when we got frustrated and that helped us to be more encouraging to my son as well. We had a very intense 2 days then by the 3rd day he had it down well (except for bowel movements, those took a bit longer). He immediately started sleeping through naps without wetting even though up until that point he always soaked his diaper at naps. After only a few weeks he no longer wet the bed at night either. I am proud to say that my 25 month old son was potty trained after only 2 intense days. I really didn't think it could go much better than that.....until my daughter came along. At 18 months I bought her a potty chair and showed it to her. The next day I got her up from her nap and she said "I do poopoo in potty like brother" I said ok, thinking it would just be a nice practice sitting on the potty time. I was wrong, she immediately had a bowel movement and told me she was a big girl now. That weekend I pottytrained her by myself in 3 hours with no tears or frustration at all. She took longer to be dry at night and has had alot more accidents than her brother did but I figure alot of that is because she was so much younger. Now I have a completely potty trained 4 year old and 2 year old all because of this book! They are both very happy and proud of their accomplishments as well.

This book reallly works! I had doubts about it but I was desperate. My son is almost 4 and refused to do number 2 in potty. Although he has no problem peeing in it. This book was written in the 1970's so I modified it to today's time. Instead of using a doll, I used a stuffed animal. Plus we went to library and got many children's books on potty training plus watched potty training videos. Sure enough he went on the potty by himself by 11 am and said he never wants to wear diapers ever again. Wow I was really impressed by this book. This book goes into detail on what to do and how to do it. Plus it was easy & fun for him!

I love this book and what Dr. Perricone has to say about getting healthier. His ideas are easy to understand and make sense. I found the book where I work and read it and decided it would make a great gift. If you're looking to get healthier, I would recommend his book and his products.

Great book!! Definitely a Five Star book.

This book is awesome. I have been following the steps provided in this book and the results have been great. I even started taking the appropriate supplements and using the suggested skin care products in the book. This book informs us on the importance in eating the right foods to maintain healthy skin and body. The exercise plan is fairly simple and not overwhelming. Get this book!! You will thank yourself later.

I read a dog book in the 70s that stated, "good coats are bred for, fed for, and cared for". Good skin in humans is much the same. Heredity plays an important part, but it's too late to fix that now. The shelves of our bathroom cabinets are laden with products to help us care for our skin (many of which are crap, but that's another book and review). The purpose of the Perricone Prescription is to provide a diet and lifestyle plan that will give you beautiful skin. Only a credulous person would take all the recommendations as gospel. The true believer would not only be exercising regularly and drinking eight glasses of water a day, but also taking hundreds of dollars in supplements each month, using the good doctor's extremely expensive moisturizers, and eating salmon at least seven times a week.

There's "clinical evidence" in the form of lots of pairs of before and after pictures of women who have followed this diet. You be the judge, but without guidance in many cases I wouldn't have seen the improvements or even confused the "before" with the "after". Unless you are coming from a diet of celery sticks and a granola bar three times a day, this program won't be a quick fix.

The supplement program seems over the top, and a thinking person wouldn't start a bunch of supplements without researching them elsewhere first. The skin care products sold by him deserve a skeptical eye, and the drugstore/department store recommendations are too vague or out of date.

Having said that, The Perricone Prescription has some merit. The diet plans I've followed (along the Weight Watchers model) always asserted that "Americans eat too much protein". Perricone contends that many of the models and actresses he sees are malnourished. I added up the grams of protein I typically eat and it does fall short of the US recommended daily allowance of 55 grams and Perricone's minimum of 65 grams. I may not be thin, but I could feed myself better. It seems like everywhere you turn, the benefits of eating healthy, drinking water, and regular exercise have another benefit. Eating more wild fish, less red meat, more vegetables: these are all good things. Taken with a shaker full of salt, this is a useful book.

Excellent book, and worthwhile recommendations

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to improve their eating habits as well as their skin. Most of the book deals with the effect of diet and supplements on the body, and gives specific recommendations as to which foods and supplements have the greatest healthy and anti-aging benefits. As well, it also approaches the topic of aging in a very well balanced way. For instance, Perricone also stresses the important effects of exercise, sleep, skin care, and lifestyle choices on ones overall health and aging. The Three-Day Facelift outlines an easy three day meal plan to follow to reduce inflammation. The plan is uncomplicated to follow, and the foods he recommends are easy to prepare. I followed this for 3 days and felt energetic and my skin glowed. I repeat this program whenever I need a pick me up (or I want my skin to look great!). This advice in this book are definitely something that I have modified my lifestyle around becasue it is effective, sensible and something that I feel is beneficial to my overall health, in addition to my skin. I HIGHLY recommend this as a read for anyone looking to improve their general health and eating habits with some truly impressive benefits!

Solid Ideas But Impractical Application for Most People

Ok...I really haven't gone insane. I saw this particular "diet" mentioned on a show I was watching about a month or so ago and the dietitian talked about how the "core" of the program is actually pretty solid but she thought, by and large the supplement and skin care regimen that he's created is "excessive" - I think she was one step away from saying it's just too much (money) to be spending and too much to be taking in terms of vitamins and other supplements. If you did everything Perricone said, you'd be taking about 20 vitamins and various other supplements and putting 4-7 lotions and topical creams on your person everyday, twice a day...and most of them are hundreds of dollars apiece if you're buying his brand (and still quite pricey of you "shop around" for the same thing from another manufacturer). You'd be spending several thousand dollars a month just on supplements and creams before you even got to the food part of this.

Reading this and being able to be objective out it (i.e. I'm not looking for a quick fix, I'm looking for additional strategies to add to this whole healthy living adventure thing I've got going on) it's slap you in your face obvious how this guy makes his living because, according to him, everything can be made all better with these supplements and creams. My complaint with this is it's clearly for people who are making a LOT of money...he wants you to eat fish (specifically Alaskan salmon, but a few others are in there too) seven days a week and for more than one meal a day...according to him, that should be the staple of the diet with some chicken and turkey breast thrown in, but never beef. If everyone were to suddenly start eating like this, wouldn't that have a long term negative impact on the salmon population....for the amounts he's recommending, it seems like this diet will coast a lot of $$$ to stick to the letter of the plan. I think I've come away from it with some things I can defiantly work into my plan and it was interesting to read about health and well-being from a dermatologist perspective, but I'm guessing the people who can really embrace and benefit from this type of diet/lifestyle long term are the one's making loads and loads of money. I do give kudos that all the recipes are the embodiment of simplicity, even my 8 year old daughter could make everything listed in the recipe section...he seems to think under his plan you could eat this way for the rest of you life...I think you'd get sick of salmon after a while...no matter the health benefit, eating ONLY one food 95% of the time, in my opinion can be really hard to stick with long term (unless you're fanatical about salmon). Overall, interesting read from a dermatological perspective, but not something I think most people would be able or willing to do for a lifetime. I've come away from it with a few new ideas about supplements (small changes that I can make that won't cost me tons of $$$) and some new (for me) info on bad and good sugars and carbs. I give it a C simply because the average Joe couldn't get on this program without bankrupting themselves.

This book provides some very general tips that are useful regarding reps, stretches, and exercises, but really fell short of what I was expecting. The author does have a very positive, energizing tone and is extremely encouraging, which is great. However, as other readers have noted, a huge portion of the book is recipes. Some of the recipes are very plain and uncreative (such as sprinkling fish with spices and broiling) and others are just unappetizing (like a salad comprised of beans, onions and chicken). Most are suggestions from bodybuilding professionals that have no body fat and big, bulky muscles. Personally, that wasn't the result I was looking for, so I found his suggestions too rigid to realistically implement in my everyday life. If you are looking to become a future Ms.Universe and want a strict plan that will help you lose all body fat, this is probably a great book for you. But if you're looking for some useful advice to tone up and a realistic plan that still allows you to eat like a normal human being, this may disappoint you. There are better books out there.

I have tried everything to trim and tone my body but nothing has given me results like this book has!!! I started noticing changes in my body in only two weeks. The exercises vary, so you don't get bored, and you only have to work out for 15-20 min. every other day. (they recommend 48 hrs rest between workouts in the book)!!! I LOVE IT!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO OTHERS!

great plan for after baby - not strange foods!

After reading many of the reviews for this book, I found lots of negativity regarding the food. Many said that the items were tough to find at your local grocery store and that they were strange foods. Well, with the exception of some of the whole grains (like whole barley, etc...) I was able to get just about everything for the first 10 days at my local grocery. The meals are creative and fun - and while things did change every day, leaving me with leftovers, it was food that I could feed to the rest of my family. Many reviewers complained that the recipes made food for more than just one person...well, if you need to cut the recipe, I found that it was fairly simple to do.

All in all, I found the food plan great! Now if I could just be self-disciplined enough to actually DO THE EXERCISES, I'm sure Keller's plan would be absolutely fantastic! :)

This is the one!

My wife and I picked this book up towards the end of her pregancy when a good friend of ours reccomended it and let me tell you, it was wonderful! This was nothing short of a health and nutrition Bible for new Moms. It's got exercises, great tips and lots of recipes that will help Mom get back in shape and feeling and looking great in no time. The best part is, Jackie's plan is nutritionally sound and well laid out so, not only did the pounds come off of both of us but, we were also getting the right nutrition which, as our doctor reminded us, is especially important for moms who are breast feeding.

Many of the excercises can be done with Mom and baby together which is a great opportunity for them to bond, and they can be done at home. My favorite part however was the food. My wife and I had been talking about improving our nutrition and eating right for years and if we'd had this book we'd have done it sooner. I never, not in a million years, imagined eating right could be this delicious! This book is packed with recipes that are perfect for the entire family, including finnicky eaters, and we both learned how to eat healthy and maintain a healthy weight! We've started giving this book as a gift to friends and family when they have kids and tell them that they "just have to read it" and everyone has loved it. Thank you Jackie for this book!

First let me say that many of the recipes in this book are FANTASTIC! For that reason I am glad I bought the book. But as a weight-loss plan it did not work for me. (also, it was hard to do THAT MUCH cooking every day, with a brand-new baby). In the first two weeks after my baby was born, I lost 20 lbs without doing anything special. Then I started trying this weight-loss plan. I loved the recipes but it did not let me eat enough. I am 6 feet tall so I naturally need more calories than the average girl, and I was always thinking about food. To make matters worse, after 4 weeks of following this plan (with some slip-ups, I admit - I found myself craving carbs like crazy!) my weight was the same as it was at 2 weeks postpartum. Then I started my own plan: keep on exercising as I feel ready, but eat as much fruits and vegetables as I can (some of my meals still include her recipes). I made a goal to eat 10 to 15 servings of fruits and veggies each day. After 7 days of doing this, I lost 3 lbs, and I am not craving carbs. In fact, I find myself craving things like oranges and strawberries rather than chocolate and ice cream. Now I feel like I can start to continue my weight loss where I left off at 2 weeks.

I followed this program after the birth of my second son with the goal of losing 25-30 pounds in a few short months (before a trip to Hawaii). It worked and I didn't even follow the plan 100% of the time. While the shopping and meal preparations do take time, and often the quantity leaves you with leftovers that you can't consume (because you need to follow the next day's menu), it does work. I plan on using this plan to lose all my baby weight from my third baby. If you are willing to put in some effort with the meal preparations it does pay off, plus the recipes are really good. I would definitely recommend this book to all new moms with the above caveat.

Peddling the so-called Truth for Profit

I was up late one night and saw an infomercial for Dr. Lorraine Day's PRODUCTS. Yes, she has something to sell. As a cancer survivor who was treated by conventional methods, I was suspicious of Dr. Day's claims. She had breast cancer, was on her death bed - unable to eat and speak - and she suddenly became well by "some" procedure that you must purchase to find out. Yeah, right.

Out of curiosity, I visited Dr. Day's web site. First, I was blown away by her bitter attitude towards anyone who would dare question or criticize her. Second, I was disturbed that she used God's word to "warn" her critics, as if Biblical truth is really concerned about health remedies and those who question a doctor's methods are condemned to eternal hell. Who does she think she is?

I wanted to contact Dr. Day; however, she conveniently provides no way to contact her. Instead, she asks that you read all her material, watch all her videos because your answer is surely in there somewhere. Of course, you must BUY these materials first. Clever.

If Dr. Day is so sure of "the truth," why not offer it FREE to those dying individuals who desperately need it? Jesus offered truth about eternal salvation FREE to a "lost and spiritually dying" world!

Think twice before you fall for this quakery.

First of all, if you want the REAL scoop on AIDS and HIV, read "Inventing the AIDS Virus" by Dr. Peter Duesberg of UC Berkeley. Or try "What If Everything You Thought You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong?" by Christine Maggiore.

Now, let me proceed with my review...

I would have given this book MINUS five stars, but the popup only allowed me a low rating of one star.

This absurdly moronic book, written by a woman who is apparently little more than a fearmonger with a bufont hairdo, is so full of misinformation that it makes the "mainstream" view of AIDS look valid. As you will duly realize by reading the aforementioned books by Duesberg or Maggiore or the infomation you will find at virusmyth.net, HIV does NOT cause AIDS, has never been proven to cause AIDS, and has never even been proven to exist (since it has never been isolated). The so-called HIV sample that Gallo "discovered" was actually stolen from Dr. Luc Montagnier of the Institut Pasteur in Paris, and even Montagnier has serious doubts that HIV causes anything.

But you've never heard any of this information, have you? That's because all dissident views on AIDS have been censored by the media and the goverment to one degree or another. There are hundreds of eminent scientists around the globe who have ALWAYS disagreed that HIV causes AIDS, but their voices have been shut out or shouted down or just ignored.

Remember, people, that those who make a claim bear the burden of proof. And contrary to 20 years of propaganda, this burden of proof has NEVER been met by those who decided that HIV causes AIDS. Don't believe me? Think I'm crazy? Then try reading the Duesberg book and email me when you're done.

This book is a 180-degree departure from the sound science that you will find in the Duesberg book and other AIDS dissident books. It is full of flat-out lies, a paranoid political agenda, and rampant fear-mongering just to make a buck. It's pretty much along the loony lines of David Icke's extraterrestrial lizards from space and other crap of that ilk.

Of course our government occasionally lies to us, and of course they have their own political agenda that doesn't always hold our rights as its highest priority. So what? That's old news. What you need to know about AIDS is that it's probably caused by chronic drug use wearing down one's immune system, NOT a mysterious, supposedly-mutating monster virus. About 2% of the human genome consists of dormant, endogenous human retroviruses. That's life, and they don't do a damn thing.

Anyone who actually knows anything about AIDS knows that increases in AIDS cases match perfectly the rise in drug abuse, perfectly accounting for the period of time it takes chronic users to develop immune-suppression.

It is also important to note that there are more deaths by suicide every year than from AIDS in the U.S., and more deaths from car accidents every year than from AIDS. The projected "pandemic" never happened, and we spend billions of dollars a year looking for a cure to this disease that kills a TINY fraction of the people killed by heart disease and cancer.

Check out Duesberg and Maggiore and virusmyth.net, and don't fall for this heap of psudoscientific lunacy. It's the last thing we need to be reading as we search for a cure to AIDS.

Can The Government Be Trusted?

I can honestly say that I'm not sure about what Lorraine Day says in this book about the government not disclosing what might be important information concerning AIDS.

Lorraine Day's video, "Cancer Doesn't Scare Me Anymore" though, casts definite, unassailable, doubt about the true motivation of government funded health institutes and organizations. For example, the national institute which exists, supposedly whose purpose it is to find a cure for cancer, has in its charter, a mandate to disband once a cancer cure has been found--receives 40 million dollars a year from the government.

Is a government funded institute really going to disclose the cure even if it found one? The cure for cancer is simple and cheap--that's why the government funded institutes and the largest drug companies don't want anyone to know about it.

Dr. Lorraine Day (an orthopedic surgeon) found the cure for her metastasized breast cancer without surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.

I'm hoping Amazon might carry more of her materials in the future. Many people would benefit.

Just another Dr. scared away from her profession because of aids. Now she harps her barley grass in a bottle on her websites and lies about those she cured and her own diagnosis. You'd think she would have thousands of testimonials, but dead people can't talk. She is counting on the medically uneducated as her key for success.

I disagree with the concept of using a bottled substance when we have the "real thing" available, ie "wheat grass" I have no argument with eating organically and lowering protein intake and drinking 10 glasses of water a day. I personally stopped all caffeine, sugar, honey, fructose, white flour, and dairy, I did still use organic butter and I don't drink alcohol. Exercise (as much as you can tolerate) spiritual connection on a daily basis, gratitude for at least one person and one thing every day, letting go of regrets, resentments is imperative as well as making amends for wrongs you have done. Get involved with helping others at any level. Pray or meditate using whatever you believe to be the source of all things and do this with a heartfelt connection, you can be mad or fearful as well as loving and grateful, just be true to yourself and what you are feeling. Learn a healing energy method such as chi gong, reike, etc. Some of these are available at a nominal cost. I pay $3 for each chi gong session I attend. Your fears will dissapate as you become active in your own healing and in helping others. I was told I had what looked like a serious cancer in my lung, the radiologist was positive it was Brochial Alveolar Cancer. I did all the things I have listed above and the second CT scan three months later showed no signs of the suspected area. The bonus' are that I have great energy and my immune system is strong. I believe this information should be free and so I have not really given a review as much as I have told you what worked for me.

Im very happy with this book. My Mother in law gave it to me when i was expecting my darling son. She used it for all 8 of her children and each one was sleeping through the night by 8 weeks. I used it with my son and it was so helpful I didnt do everything the book said like letting the baby cry as long as an hour The longest i would let my son cry would have been 15 mins But it never got to that point Also i bottle feed So i didnt have to worry about milk supply. My son was sleeping through the night at 6 weeks and he was always in the healthy range on all the charts Im pregnant with Baby number 2 now and i have already started rereading this book because i plan on using the routine again :)

We used Preparation for Parenting with all four of our kids. Each was sleeping through the night by the eighth week. All were very healthy and did very well on the program. If you are at the end of your rope and don't know where to turn then get this material!

I have used this book with all 3 of my children. They all slept 6-7 hours a night by 2 weeks of age. No kidding! My milk supply stayed strong and I was able to nurse my children for a full year, while working a full time job. My youngest is now 3 months old, sleeping 12 hours at night and nursing every 3-4 hours during the day. I credit this book and its advise for this success.

However, I do not totally agree with all the advise given in the book. It is like many things in life, you have to take out and use the good and throw away the bad. I disagree with their strong convictions about co-sleeping with your baby. My husband and I have always allowed our newborns to sleep with us for the 1st 6 weeks, because I feel they need to be close to their momma's just as in the womb. I also disagree with the no nursing a baby to sleep rule. There is something very comforting about being so close to your baby and he naturally falls asleep. That's ok. The wake, eat, play, sleep pattern didn't work for me because my babies were just so sleepy in the beginning. By 3 months, they fall more into that pattern.

In conclusion, Read this book. Use its principles and make them your own. You don't have to follow it to a "T" in order to get your babies sleeping through the night. May you be blessed in the biggest responsibility of your life. Enjoy those babies!

I have 2 kids and these principles worked great for me. I also know of at least 15 other kids who have been put on the schedule and did fantastic too. Of course there's always controversy on baby books; attachment parenting has flaws too. Most people who have problems with this book did not apply it correctly and listened to too many other people's advice; probably people who never even tried it. It is important for babies to get sleep, but to be a good parent you need to be well rested as well. Having a good night sleep and a healthy baby (most all of the babies DO NOT have problems) are key to being good parents, especially of a newborn. Read this book. Try it. If you don't like it, then there are always 100's of other things out there to help. But as for me and my house, we will ALWAYS use this method. It brings sanity home quick. Want a family blog? I used this book with my first child. It seemed to fit like a glove. Looking back I'm not so sure I did the best thing for him. He wasn't a big eater, and my milk supply dried up at 5 months. I think I would have been able to breast fed longer, and he would have been more healthy had I demand fed like I am with my second. My second son, has a ferocious appetite. There's no way, I'd be able to put him on this program without many tears from both the baby and I. It is not worth the undue stress to try to adhere to what in the author's opinion is the "right way" to do things. Plus, I have trouble keeping my milk supply, so this program is definately not good for that. My lactation consultant told me she's seen at least ten babies that needed serious intervention because they were not thriving due to being on this program.

There are 13 different types of activities. They are Art, Construction, Craft, Dance, Education, Environment, Foods and Cooking, Games, Horticulture, Make-Believe, Music and Nature. It gives you tips for your child's safety and enjoyment. The book also lists a variety of materials and supplies you might need for that activity.

Inappropriate choice of materials for a book aimed at age two+

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under the age of four not be given nuts, popcorn, or raisins, due to the risk of choking. Therefore, it seems rather inappropriate to include these ingredients in recipes and craft activities in a book aimed at children "age two years and up." Here are just a few examples of activities from this book that use such ingredients:

- Grandma's Granola (Activity 171) contains both nuts and raisins
- Popcorn Packaging (Activity 74) contains popcorn
- Cereal Balls (Activity 51) contain raisins.

This book has been around FOREVER and continues to be updated. Over the years, I have probably given away at LEAST 20 copies of this book to parents of toddlers. It is the BEST book out there for creative, imaginative fun for kids that can only help them to be smart, smart adults.

I couldn't believe the reviews that stated that this was for "unimaginative"adults! I am as creative as they come and I was amazed at some of the neat, terrific and educational ideas that the authors came up with. That said, there are a few activities that I thought were a little "out there" so I skipped those activities, but everyone is different. Trust me, this book leads the way in creative play!

A very important book

Hollingsworth details the experiences of the parents and children in the Country Walk case with clarity and compassion. The book provides a window onto the complex and intersecting legal, media and psychological issues in ritual abuse cases.

From the outset, Hollingsworth's viewpoint on the case is clear, and the post hoc criticisms that she lacks 'objectivity' are ridiculous. When it comes to child sexual assault, nobody is 'objective', and Hollingsworth's heart is on her sleeve for all to see.

The artistry of the book can be seen in it's articulation of the difficulties that faced each parent in coping with their child's disclosures. Hollingsworth's admiration for the parents-turned-advocates of the Country Walk children is infectious, and it sustains the reader throughout an otherwise difficult journey.

Shaky and extremely subjective

I read this book years ago, before the wave of ritual-abuse-debunking. Even then, it made me uneasy. The charges seemed too numerous and too baroque, and the passion of those investigating and prosecuting verged on religious mania, in no way admitting of doubt, conflict, or exculpatory evidence. I fear a miscarriage of justice has been done.

Read the book as a social document of our culture's obsession at that time and how it played out, but don't expect to finish it feeling you know the truth of what really happened.

Partisan, ridiculous puff piece

I read this book when it first came out, when we were more likely to believe these stories, even so by the end of it I knew it couldn't be true. As has been proved since. What Hollingsworth nowhere reveals is that she was actively involved in this case. She made the first complaint against the defendants on behalf of a friend and quit her job to become a paid consultant to the Bragas - a prime pair of frauds.

So remember, if you read it, that it's by no means an impartial account. And the author to this day has to admit the damage that she did while promoting one of the sorrier episodes in the satanic ritual abuse panic that swept the country in the 80s.

Jan Hollingsworth has given us a glimpse of the "early days" when childhood sexual abuse was breaking ground in this country, and specifically in a Miami, Florida suburb, and this was also the time when Janet Reno was the ambitious Attorney General in Florida, and had to make some hard decisions to prosecute this case.

Hollingsworth is a newspaper reporter, and she follows the story of Frank and Illeana Fuster, who owned Country Walk Babysitting Service, and two years later, Frank Fuster, who'd also been a convicted child molester, would be convicted of 14 counts of child sexual abuse and sentenced to 165 years in prison.

This is a remarkable story and it's a powerful one at that. In the beginning when the children began to wake up in the middle of the night screaming, and started to develop strange rashes or seemed at time to be dazed and groggy, the signs were often overlooked by their parents. This is a true story, and it covers the suburb's triumph and tragedy, and the parents who bitterly and bravely faced the truth in the face of Defense Attorneys who wanted to "clear the accused."

This is also terrifying reading, and when I read it, I couldn't put it down. But it was telling, and as I read through the accounts of the convicted, and what happened at this child care center, and the children who were victimized, it gave me even more insight into the predators which I've dealt with on a daily basis for the last 20 years.

Be forewarned - this is not easy reading, and it is disturbing. But it's also highly recommended!!!

While not wonderfully organized, this powerful book is a must read for any Early-childhood professional, social worker, Family Sciences professional, or advocate of children. At times the misplaced zeal of the author led to ramblings that were a real challenge to unravel, but the content is so amazing and the topic so well hidden in our society that you must plow on through!

The horrific nature of the acts described in this book break my heart at the same time that I applaud the courage of those parents and children who took a stand. The author's heroic efforts to describe in detail what most of us would never hope to imagine has my gratitude. Our system is still flawed but Hollingsworth's work has made a lasting mark that continues to benefit children and families fighting child abuse.

This book documented history in the making and is a lesson from which we can all learn. I highly recommend it!
