After reading an up to date version of Larrian Gilespie,MD You Don't Have to Live with Cystitis, I find this cookbook not
up to date(10 years old). I am wheat intolerant and dairy intolerant as well am so many recipes are based on these two ingredients. There
are many recipes with nuts as well which Larrian says IC people are not tolerant of so it is not of much use to me.

Easy to follow, but very plain recipes...but if you are on the IC diet already then you will be used to it and enjoy this
book.

A must read for people diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. A comprehensive explanation of the disease and other related
diseases. Great explanations of foods that are safe and troublesome. Although I have not made any of the recipes yet, they
do look good with easy to get ingredients.

bad recipes. basically the main idea is to cook things with no spice. main idea-everything is off limits. not sure why
youd need recipes for that.

I was diagnosed with IC 3 years ago. I joined the IC Association and buy books they suggest and other items. I could not put
this book down. It answered alot of my questions. It is not just a cookbook. She has IC and has friends with IC. They experiment
with products they hear could help with symptoms of IC and she puts the results in her book. The recipes are great and she
discusses each food in detail why IC sufferers may have flare ups from them. She gives alot of websites for information about
IC and other illnesses related to IC sufferers. There is alot of reading and if you skip over you may miss something you
could use. For example, this is the first I have heard of this but she tells of using alittle baking soda in a glass of water
for burning pain. The other night I had a flare up and felt like I was on fire. The burning was so bad. I remembered that
she said baking soda worked for her. Even though it tastes yuk, when you are in so much pain you don't care. I used it and
within a few minutes the burning was gone. I used it three times so far and had the same great results. She also has in
the back an index for vegetarian recipes, and Low Oxalate recipes. Would recommend to all IC patience. She describes how
to test food also to find out what flares IC symptoms. Thanks to the author. Lora

I was very disappointed when I reviewed this book. It was almost as if the author(s) went to a search engine, and the NIH's
Medline, and the National Library of Medicine (PubMed) did a search for IC then made a book out of the results. Of course,
the problem with this is that that many of these listings will become (if they aren't already) outdated and "old" information.
The book was apparently not reviewed by someone who has knowledge of the IC community, as it listed old and outdated addresses
as well.
In conclusion: In my opinion, just a few hours on the web "today" will yield more current and useful information than that provided by this book. For those seeking information on IC, I suggest a search on "google.com" instead.

Designed for people who are new to interstitial cystitis, this sourcebook has been created for patients who have decided to
make education and Internet-based research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it gives information useful
to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it is designed for patients who are less familiar or are new to the
Internet as a medical research tool. It tells the reader where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics
related to interstitial cystitis, from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes
the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research.
Selected readings from various agencies are compiled and reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available
to date on interstitial cystitis. Following an introductory chapter, the sourcebook is organized into three parts. PART I:
THE ESSENTIALS; Chapter 1. The Essentials on Interstitial Cystitis: Guidelines; Chapter 2. Seeking Guidance; Chapter 3. Clinical
Trials and Interstitial Cystitis; PART II: ADDITIONAL RESOURCES AND ADVANCED MATERIAL; Chapter 4. Studies on Interstitial
Cystitis; Chapter 5. Patents on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 6. Books on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 7. Multimedia on
Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 8. Periodicals and News on Interstitial Cystitis; Chapter 9. Physician Guidelines and Databases;
Chapter 10. Dissertations on Interstitial Cystitis; PART III. APPENDICES; Appendix A. Researching Your Medications; Appendix
B. Researching Alternative Medicine; Appendix C. Researching Nutrition; Appendix D. Finding Medical Libraries; Appendix E.
Your Rights and Insurance; ONLINE GLOSSARIES; INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS GLOSSARY; INDEX. Related topics include: Hunner's Patch,
Hunner's Ulcer, Painful bladder syndrome, Pelvic Pain Syndrome, Trigonitis, Urethral Syndrome, Urgency frequency syndrome.

My Wife Has IC, and we struggle with finding good tasting recipes. I was ordering A Taste of the Good Life: A Cookbook for
an Interstitial Cystitis Diet by Beverley Laumann, the most well known of the IC cookbooks when I found this cookbook. I'd
never heard of this cookbook at any of the IC websites, but thought, what the heck, even if there's just one or two good
recipes, that's something. Well, I'm sorry to say that this is hardly a real cookbook. Recipes are so basic and flavorless,
it's shocking that anyone even published it. Here's an example: Chicken with Mozerlla
Ingredients, Chicken, butter, oil, mozzarella.
Instructions: Friy in oil, then transfer to grill and cover with cheese.
We don't need help taking an existing recipe and making it totally flavorless by removing everything but the basics. We need a cookbook that has creative recipes that are filled with flavor so that the person suffering with IC can experience what it's like to eat flavorfull and fulfilling food again. This book is a total disappointment. I feel almost insulted by how basic and flavorless the recipes are.

This book has very few recipes, many of which are completely plain. She uses almost no spices at all, including any that
are fine on an IC diet. Besides most of the recipes have onions as the ONLY flavoring, and if you are like me, you can't
eat onions, no matter how thoroughly cooked.
A simple, easy to follow and handy little book!

My mum has been suffering with Interstitial Cystitis for many years. Unfortunately there is no cure and the best medical treatments
on offer only provide moderate symptomatic relief. Most clinicians agree that diet can profoundly affect the regularity and
severity of painful flare-ups. Because of this I have been on the hunt for advice about which foods to avoid and those that
might be neutral or even beneficial. Of course trial and error has played a big part over the years, but foods to definitely
avoid are high in salt and acids. The advice in this book together with the simple short recipes has provided my mum with
reassurance and helped reduce her symptoms. The book is clearly written for non-medical lay people that may have struggled
for some recipe ideas.

Naturopathic Homeopathic Vitalistic Spiritistic Woo-Woo:

Hey, some citations regarding the vitalism in this book: "the concept of a vital force, or energy principle, had its origins
in ancient Chinese and Asian texts [...] this concept [...shared by] acupuncture; Chinese, Ayurvedic, and Tibetan medicine
[p.018...] regardless of the type of bacteria, fungus, or illness, the ultimate cause, according to homeopathic thinking,
is always an imbalance in your energy system (vital force) [...] much like Chinese medicine, which affirms that the chi or
ki must be in balance and flowing harmoniously through the meridians of your body [p.028...] homeopathy [...] brings the vital
force into equilibrium [p.029...] by bringing the vital force into balance, homeopathy automatically strengthens the immune
system [p.034...] why were you bleeding abnormally in the first place? There was an imbalance in the vital force [p.039...]
your vital force, or energy system [p.040...] whether or not you become actually ill depends on the strength of your vital
force [p.054...] homeopathy can still help you in a number of ways: to strengthen your vital force [p.178...] defense mechanism
- the aspect of the vital force that maintains health and prevents disease [p.345]." And a little bit of explicit spiritism
{vitalism itself is actually 'purposeful life spirit'}: "many illness arise out of an emptiness of spirit, a profound feeling
of disconnectedness, separation, and isolation from god or divine love [...] such a state of poverty of spirit precedes a
serious physical illness [...] the idea that body, mind and spirit are intertwined [...] homeopathy is one of the only forms
of medicine that can integrate and heal all three gently yet powerfully [p.004]." And of course, "homeopathy is a medical
science [p.017 & 345]." But, in reality, it is profoundly not true that science contains or supports the vitalistic and the
spiritistic. Typical ND epistemic conflation posed as an epistemic delineation.
