A friend gave me this book as a Christmas gift so I've squeezed reading it into my spare time. The book is very powerful
and very healing to anyone that's willing to take Laura's journey--- through reading it. The quotes before each chapter are
inspirational and help set the perspective from which she writes. From the quotes she's selected I can tell she's given a
lot of thought to the meaning of life and how important and fleeting it can be. The healing power of love is the key to the
book for me. The unconditional love that she receives from Kent brings tears to my eyes because it was the kind of love that
my late wife and I shared. And of course we have to love ourselves before we can truly love others as she so amptly points
out. I would recommend this book to anyone that's dealing with life's issues no matter what they might be. It's just might
help bring things into a better perspective for the reader. And remember love is the key..........
A very inspirational story!

A friend had given me this book to read and told me that it was a story about a woman who overcame tremendous obstacles and
found the love of her life. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it, but once I started reading, I ended up staying
up until 4:00 in the morning finishing it in one sitting. I just had to find out what happened! I was truly inspired and
amazed at the challenges that Laura faced and how she dealt with people constantly telling her that she was going to die and
that she couldn't have what she wanted for her life. This true story will inspire anyone who reads it. After reading it,
I have a fresh perspective on my own obstacles in life and I feel tremendous courage in facing them. My love and admiration
goes out to Laura, her husband, and her whole family.
What an inspiration!

I have a relative that is currently researching a transplant, and we got "For Love Of Life" to read. It is an emotionally
charged, spiritual and uplifting book that taught us how important support is in your life, and how important it is to really
love yourself and those around you. I could not put this book down until I was finished! Not only is it good for people who
are dealing with terminal illnesses, but it was amazing to read about this courageous woman, and those around her. It really
is a love story that puts "for better or worse" to the test, and it inspired me to examine what is important in life, and
to put God first in all things. "For Love Of life" is an honest, heart-wrenching love story...with a happy ending! I would
recommend this book to pretty much anyone!

This is a perfect gift for anyone facing life's challenges. Randy integrates his own amazing story of dealing with CF from
an early age (10)given just two years to live, surviving to today's 40th birthday with a double lung transplant in '99, with
inspiring advice on positive living. He is a motivational speaker who translates his message effectively to the written page
so everyone can benefit from the life lessons he has learned. Each chapter of his life story is filled with motivation and
practical examples of how to apply his learning to our own lives. I highly recommend his book to anyone faced with living
life to its fullest.

Brianna Pelletier was born with a death sentence. Her DNA gave her Cystic Fibrosis. The only unknown for Brianna is how long
she will have.
It's Brianna's senior year and while her friends are planning for college, Brianna's plans are far simpler: live to see graduation. She never intended to go to college. She never believed she'd survive this long. But things are going pretty good. She's managed to avoid any serious infections and remain out of the hospital. She fears that if she needs to return to the hospital, she'll never leave. Well, she'd never leave alive.
So as senior year progress, she gains insight into what it means to really live, by an unlikely source - her ailing math teacher. Her alphabetically placed study buddy, Adam, hears a rumor that Mr. Eccles was in a band, Love, in the past. Downloading the music, Adam shares the bizarre album, Forever Changes, with Brianna. The music reaches a part of her that she could never put into words. After hearing the music, and then encountering Mr. Eccles one evening on a deserted beach, the two form an understanding with each other.
Through Brianna's dad's gentle love, the nerdy pressure from Adam, and the desire to live courtesy of Mr. Eccles, Brianna takes living to the next step - she attends an information session at MIT and takes the scariest step of her life, sending in her application. This action could bring hope or despair. On one level, she fears that by sending it in, she is hexing herself that she will never live to see her admission to MIT. But on another level, she doesn't want to die and wants some ray of hope, something to live for.
In Brianna, Mr. Halpin shares with readers both a wish to live and a desire to not die, which really are not one and the same. Brianna does her best with the hand she's been dealt. More than anything, she dreams of being like everyone else without a care in the world, but she has greater obstacles to overcome. She does so bravely and without blame. She's an inspiring character to curl up and share a few hours with.

Excellent book giving a family perspective on coping with CF

Cloyce Jones is clearly a remarkable woman. She has a strength that most of us can only dream of. This book portrays her family's
lives as they cope with death, illness and then the happiness that the birth of healthy child and eventually a successful
lung tranplant for Tara bring. With CF it is often one challenge after another but this family found unending courage to battle
on. I was saddened by the extra stress caused to a sick child by insurance rules that meant they had to travel hundreds of
miles to retain their coverage. It was however warming to read of the joy that the 'Wish Upon a Star Foundation' was able
to bring.

I appreciate the willingness of the author to share this remarkable story -- it creates additional awareness of the disease
and generates funds to help researchers find beneficial treatments and a cure for this disease. Our son, Burke (who died
due to CF in 1997), would very much have appreciated the family emphasis here.

When I read this book to my 6 year old boy and my 9 year old girl, they both sat absolutely still and quiet. This is amazing
(especially for the 6 year old). When I was finished my son wanted more and even wanted some of the "magic rocks". They both
wanted to go into the attic and explore all the stuff up there. Unfortunately we do not have neat stuff in our attic. I
would recommend this book to everyone with an imagination. We look forward to more books on these characters?? :)

I have read this book over and over to my seven year old son. He has since started telling ME stories. What a wonderful way
to help a childs imagination. The storyline was interesting and kept my son focused and waiting in anticipation for the next
page to be turned. The pictures are extrodinary. They are so life like and fun. You can see them over and over and find something
new each time you read the book. I recommend this book to any parent or educator that wants to spark that imagination that
helps children build their future.

"Cystic Fibrosis in the 20th Century" gives its reader a thoughtful and comprehensive look, from many perspectives, inside
one of the most challenging genetic disorders, both to live with...and to treat. I have had the opportunity to read many,
many books. And I have to admit that this very well-written book is a definite "must read" and is certainly a worthwhile
addition, not only to those in the medical field, but to "anyone's" personal library.

I expected to like this book, but was surprised to find it so engaging, heart-warming and heart-wrenching. The main character
is a disease. No other antagonist is needed. A lot of education is packed into the pages. I appreciated that and so will
anyone who knows someone with CF. However I loved the story and the care with which the details were written. The struggles
of the patient, his mother, his father, and others are alternately explored and given surprising depth in a few short pages.
I couldn't put it down!
What a great launching pad for future work. I look forward to reading her next novel.

This very coloful, upbeat book appeals to the heart of every CF child and lets them know they are not alone. Joshua Grishaw
is a gifted little boy.He writes about his dreams of being a superhero during the daytime while confronting the fears every
CF child knows during the night. The illustrations are magical adding a lighthearted quality while dealing with a difficult
subject. His family is obviously the most important thing in his life just like every other CF child's. My daughter keeps
this sturdy book on its own shelf in her room. She doesn't know her Mom reads it as often as she does. It's good to know
I'm not alone either.
