I have the original copy of this book, which has been reread to the point that it is falling apart. I was thrilled to see
that it had been published as a hard cover, making it available to be enjoyed for many years to come.
After spending an entire cruise, seasick, Kitt returns home to friends waiting for a detailed description of a romantic voyage. She makes up a story, based on a magazine picture and a name she associates with the cruise literature, only to have the "dream" walk into her life.

I used this new guide while on a cruise in the Norwegian fjords. It was absolutely terrific - there was great information
on Bergen and a wonderful diagram which showed the geology of the fjords. My next vacation will be to Portugal and the Mediterranean,
and I'm using the guide to help plan my time in Lisbon and Seville. There seem to be plenty of useful tips on local markets
and places of interest. And the beautiful pictures make the book a great souvenir.

This is a great book, and a must for any ocean liner buff! With great pictures, and good linear notes, this, along with the
others in the set, are some of the most comprehensive and excellent books out there. One of my favorites!

Five star restaurants, the finest wines, the best food, and cruises around the world. It's a life that most of us can only
dream about. For Andre Schwarz, this is his life.
Andre started his illustrious career as a first year apprentice at a small luxury hotel in Germany. After completing his schooling and apprenticeship, he quickly rose in the ranks. New opportunities took him to larger establishments and more responsibilities. He even served aboard a cruise ship for some time, traveling the world.
Hotel: Untold Stories not only tells of Andre's adventures but also gives a glimpse of what actually happens behind the scenes at these places. Some of the events are eye opening. Other parts are just funny. Let's face it, for most of us, the closest we'll ever get to fine dining and exotic travel are reading about Andre's adventures. After reading Hotel: Untold Stories, I think you'll agree, it's a pretty good substitute.

Quoting from the back cover:
"Andre Schwarz is a hotel manager of an international five-star hotel. He began his career in a small luxury hotel in Germany, a career that would eventually lead him from Europe to Asia and to the Middle East. In this book, he recounts some of the most memorable experiences of his career. We follow Andre from his humble beginnings as a waiter in a small luxury hotel to his first managerial position in a five-star hotel in London. He describes in explicit detail many exciting experiences that in a five-star hotel are nothing more than everyday occurrences.
"Some of his anecdotes are funny and others are shocking, but they all have one thing in common: they are true. While the stories, experiences, and anecdotes are true, the names of hotels, people, and places have been changed to protect the innocent."
As you can see by the number of pages, this is quite a lengthy memoir, and through it all, Rene Egle manages to hold your interest while relating his very unique career and travel adventures. Considering Rene knew very little English when he started work at the London hotel, he has come along way in his mastery of the English language.
If you enjoy career memoirs and travel logs, you will most like enjoy Rene Egle's Hotel - Untold Stories.

More than 500 pages. In addition to the 200 pages of ship profiles, there are sections on choosing the cruise that is best
for you, traveling by freighter and chartering your own boat. The thing that makes this guide really unique is the collection
of personal reports -- first hand accounts by professional travel writers on cruises they have taken.

The irrepressible Esmeralda has given us another fine, fun read! Author Margaret Graham has developed a character who is sincere,
humorous, fallible, honest, and clever. Esmeralda is no spring chicken. Hooray for older characters with whom we can identify--and
to whom we can look up! No need to drift into the sunset. Why not set the prairie on fire? Land Sakes--like th two previous
books starring Esmeralda--is fast paced, interesting, full of local color, and brightened by Esmeralda's charming backwoods
idioms. I highly recommend it!!

Ross Klein covers in much detail how the modern cruise industry works - from building up (too) high expectations among passengers through its brochures, to the ways to safe money (by violating saftey or environmental regulations) to how cruise lines tend to "Squeeze Blood From a Turnip" (Chapter 7).
Though the books puts much emphasis on pointing out the problems of the cruise industry, it is meant to give potential passengers a realistic idea of what to expect on a cruise. Only when they have a realistic conception - despite announcements of "exceeding everyone's expectations" in the brochures - they will be able to fully enjoy their cruise, avoiding dissatisfaction by anything unexpected.
Therefore Ross Klein's book is a must for all marketing people or travel agents dealing with cruises.
