Critical-Care Books

The best feature of the book is the diagrams of each disease process on the cellular level. The care plans are broad and limited. Under each disease there may be a list of four nursing diagnoses followed by a list of seven interventions with no discussion of which intervention relates to which diagnosis. Too broad and general. Not worth the price.

I cannot recommend this interesting work until non-control
rates are included alongside all control rates and until all the many errata and ambiguities are corrected in future editions.

DIDN'T HAVE AS MANY HELPFUL HINTS AS PROMISED BUT STILL A GOOD BOOK. DUPLICATES MATERIAL FOUND IN MANY OTHER BOOKS ALREADY OWNED.

I think this book is good if you have a short period of time but not worth the money. It goes over most of the topics on the CCRN Neonatal but does not go in depth enough for what the CCRN is looking for. I also bought the Certification and Core Review for Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing by Robin Watson. This book is put out by the AACN and I contribute this book to helping me pass the test, NOT the Neonatal CCRN exam secrets...

I've owned this book for a year and honestly, I forget I have it. It was required for my maternal/newborn nursing course, so I own it. Used it for two case studies in the most basic way. Cited it twice, using about two sentences each time. I'm not going into peds or ob/gyn so, I can't speak for students who have more interest in this subject, but I have to say, this book is only about as informative as the Bradley method class I took to prepare for childbirth. And it cost a lot more.

When I purchased this book, I thought it was the AACN procedure manual. This book covers some of the same ground (a little out of date) but is not equivalent!

Hopefully a second edition is on the way, with the numerous mistakes corrected. Until then, I would stay away from this text. Besides outright errors, there are many places where the author is just not clear or contradicts herself, examples do not always agree with the text or are ambiguous, and captions are sometimes just plain wrong. I would venture to guess that this book was put together very quickly.

This book has one very positive aspect: the study cards in the back. There are 32 pages with two cards on each page. They are cardboard and perforated to tear out and carry with you. Good information on them. The rest of the book, however is very basic. Too much wasted space. Each chapter on a body system starts with section-related tips for studying for the CCRN followed by a few pages of pictures of the organ, many tables and charts, and lastly fill in the blank sentences and fill in the blank pathophysiology, etiologies, and signs and symptoms. Too much information not in here. Too much space wasted on each page. Approximately 25% of the book is actual writing or definitions, the rest are tables, charts, and pictures. The majority of the book is blank for you to write and fill in the blanks. Not my idea of a review/study guide. This book is too general and still needed to use other study guides, references, and textbooks to study for the CCRN. I like all my informatin in one place. Lacks a pharmacology section. Save money and buy used or not at all. Plain paper is cheaper.

The description of this book on line make us think that it is much better than the reality. For example, the use of heparin is not recommended by any other author or used in any trial, and the therapeutic option for acute myocardial infarction is not discussed and the author do not show comparative data. In resume, if you expect a atualization, what you find is a copy of others textbooks and concepts defended by the author without support in by other authors. Don't by it!

Firstly, Clinical Anesthesia Procedures would not install onto my Palm T3. So I spent hours e-mailing Skyscape, and getting replies which did not solve the problem. When I finally got it installed, it would not display in full-screen, cutting off tables etc.. I called Skyscape, and they informed me that it was set up that way which " may be an error". They promised to get back to me with a patch to solve the problem. They have not contacted me further.
My conclusion: it is a useless application. Much better to buy the book, which I have done.
