Critical-Care Books

I enjoyed the format of this book because it breaks down all of the major diagnosis found in critical care into the most important parts. Things like assessments, treatments, diagnosis, lab tests and results, and important information. It is extremely easy to read, and you can find it quickly. A great book for all!

I bought the book for CNA classes at red cross. I have not gone to the class but I have looked through the book and think it is a good book, with lots of details and examples.

This Thieme series has opened a new era! By far, this is the best atlas series available and as a medical student, I would recommend the three atlases to anyone who studies in the field of anatomy. Trust me, this is THE book you keep for life!

I purchased this book on a whim to see if it could help me with my care plans for nursing school. I loved it so much that I searched amazon to find all of the other books in this particular series. Even though this book was published in 1994, it is still very accurate with it's interventions and rationals. I would call this a must-have for any nursing student (actually this entire series is a must-have). worth it's weight in gold!

This series of review guides truly saved me during nursing school. In most cases, these guides were written better than the class notes my instructors prepared, to the point where I was studying almost exclusively from the NSNA Review Guide series. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Absolutely worth their weight in gold!

This is a fantastic, well written manual on cardiology and the heart. Great for any nurse who wants to understand more fully the electrical pathophysiology of the circulatory system. Highly recommended.

I am a 1-year experienced RN who is not only new to pediatrics, but also new to critial care, coming from adult med/surg. A friend of mine in the PICU lent me her Hazinski manual (the smaller edition) my first week in the PICU, calling it the "Bible". I have to say that I have dog-eared her book, referring to it practically every day when I get home. She has finally asked for it back, and so I now must get my own copy! It has been a Godsend to me. We have several copies of the larger edition on our unit, which is very comprehensive, so I have decided to purchase that one instead. Additionally, many other nurses on our unit owns one (it's contagious!). Just about everything you could want to know is in the book, and it doesn't speak to you as though you already know peds. critical care; it is truly an educational book in the best sense of the word. The inner covers have quick charts to refer to vital information, heart rates, respiratory rates, BSA Nomogram, fluid maintenance, resuscition equipment, etc. Our Education Department refers to them in orientation classes. The only thing I would love to see is a chapter on the very absolute basics, such as I&O's (which is included, but as part of chapters on dehydration, renal, cardiovascular, etc.), assessment of the critically ill child, skills, the key things to look for and report to the physician, etc. Just one small chapter like this for the very beginner. It would have been very helpful to someone like me in my first few weeks, and I believe a solid foundation is the best ground upon which to learn. I hope anyone buying this book enjoys it as much as my colleagues and I do.
