I bought this book as a registered nurse that is fairly new to the critical care field, and the first night I had it, it came in handy. By reading a few pages before going to work about being a "detective" to find out the cause of changes in a pt's condition, I was able to avert a more serious complication. I enjoyed the narrative descriptions by nurses in various settings of the critical care field, how the situations were handled, and how they could have improved them. I highly recommend this book not only for the veteran nurse, but for all the new nurses out there!! It will better your thinking skills, and improve your care overall!!

This book based on 2001 conference proceedings explores the controversies and facts about vasospasm and its place in neurosurgery. It is not as up to date as MacDonald's monograph of the same name. It is very useful for the research worker interested in animal models and clinical trials up to 2001. This book may go out of print soon so now is the time to obtain a copy of it. It may be a reference for about 5-6 years, at which time another book will assume its role.

I've known Dr. Fillerup for about 20 years and he is an extremely intelligent surgeon and human being. I am so glad he has put this book out there - which is phenomenal - to help ppl understand the road-blocks & limitations we have obtaining QUALITY healthcare / diagnostics and the near impossibility if you do not have insurance. I have started to read this text to prepair for a board exam in Occupational Medicine. The first 14 chapters cover a huge amount of information that serves as the basis for this field of medicine. This will be a big help for anyone looking for an organized review of this material. Section V examines specific toxins in detail and just about anything you would need to know about most chemicals is here. This text is vital for health professionals in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. It would also be very helpful to have as a reference for a terrorist attack that deals with radiation or the spread of toxic materials. It is the rare text that I WILL read from cover to cover, instead of using it to look up selected items. Highly recommended.

I found this book very helpful explaining the fundamental principles of pulmonary physiology! I was writing a review, and found the first chapter especially useful!

This book is an excellent resource for anyone who is in a graduate program or who is a clinical nurse specialist. This book should be in your permanet book case. This compact reference is intended to put clinical prpoblems in perspective as they relate to making decisions when administering blood tranfusions. It is divided into sections, each consisting of short chapters addressing specific clinical situations, thus facilitating rapid clinical decision-making or giving essential background information. Topics include general information such as autlogous and allogeneic blood products, epidemiology, blood options, the ABO and Rhesus system, compatibility testing, and administering blood prpoducts; surgery; general medicine; and appropriate prescribing.

I have not seen the book yet, but have received solicitation to buy it which included this helpful info.
