I used this book to study for NRP, and reading through it and doing the tests definitely prepared me for the class. Others I know used the disc to study and liked it as well. It's nice that there are 2 different types of study tools for people since not everyone learns the same way.

This is an excellent book for all critical care nurses. It is succinct and comprehensive at the same time. It explains things easily and lets you know what you need to know regarding issues such as DKA, etc. It even has a section on different drug calculations when hanging a drip (ie dobutamine), etc. A must have reference for every critical care nurse!

It's the best critical care quick reference available.

What can I say? The other reviewers have said it all. Anything that I wrote would be simply reiterating what has already been said. This book is thorough, concise, easy to read and reference, and covers all the body systems pertinent to critical care interventions. It should be considered a mandatory addition to any serious critical care nurse's library.

This book has been a godsend for myself and my family. My Dad was recently diagnoised with Alzheimer's. This book helped me ask intelligent questions when speaking to his doctor. It's a diesease people know so little about. It's very helpful in helping determine what type of doctor a alzheimer suffer should be seeing and the test available. I wish I'd had this book when we first suspected there maybe a problem. I'm an avid reader and have read many self help books and this has to be one of the most helpful books I have ever read.

For those caring for a loved one with dementia, The Alzheimer's Action Plan is a helpful and hopeful guide to understanding diagnosis and treatment of dementia. But, the chapters on caregiving offer the most important advice on how to normalize life with a loved one suffering from dementia. Written with great wit and wisdom, the authors deliver a rich and easy read. This book will help you if you are living with or caring for a person with dementia.

If only this book had been available to my family when our mom was alive.
As a family, we had so much to learn in order to cope with the dynamic changes that occur with alzheimer's disease and dementia.
Despite the fact that we are a family who has several of us with medical backgrounds, and had a good network of connections, the information was never as clearly outlined and accessable as it is in this book.
Already, I have referred this comforting resource to several others since I purchased it a month ago.
Thank you to the co-authors for creating a book that offers the opportunity of wonderful support for so many who are trying to learn and to deal with this disease process.

This book is easy to read and understand. It reads like a book, not like a laundry list of signs and symptoms so it's easier to remember concepts. I used this book in conjunction with the PASS CCRN CD. I never used the PASS CCRN book though. I recommend this book to all my colleagues who plan on taking the CCRN. I can't say enough good things about it. I passed the CCRN with the first try.

I too thought that the first chapter was hard to get through--the cardiovascular section is extremely thorough and has quite a bit of information that really isn't addressed on the exam. The remaining chapters, however, were much easier reading, and the explanations are so much better than what I have found in other books. The book also has an extensive collection of practice questions, and while it does not give rationales for the correct answers, it does direct you to where it was covered in the book. I used several resources to study for the exam and this one was by far the most complete. I am currently in a graduate program working on my CCNS and I still use this book all of the time as a reference for my assignments.

I attended AACN's NTI critical care conference in 2007, and had the privilege of attending lectures by Thomas Ahrens. After studying tons of material in preparation for the exam, this was the last book I purchased. It should have been the first and only one I purchased. Ahrens simplifies complex concepts in an interesting manner, and covers material you WILL SEE on the exam. This book was the most helpful resource I utilized! He presents hundreds of scenarios and practice questions, which were priceless when I sat for the exam. I passed the paper-and-pencil, full-length CCRN exam on the first try. Great prep indeed from Ahrens - a valuable and brilliant critical care expert.

Tip: If you want in-depth info (down to the cellular level), try using the "Core Curriculum" from AACN as an added source. Although Ahrens' book is the most in-line with the actual exam, if you desire advanced pathophysiological data, you will require another source.

I would have to say that this is the best CCRN review book out there. It is easily readable, comprehensive, and includes many practice questions to help you determine if you understand, can apply, and can remember the material. I have bought other review books, but unfortunately, they have been in outline forms and not as valuable. They get boring quick too! I have no problems with the little bits of extra infomration included in this book that may or may not be on the exam as it helps you comprehend the other information and serves as a review. I have bought other books that only have questions for review and I must say that I tried some of them without this book and did so so, but not great. After reading the sections of this book, I went back to those questions and others I had not done and did much much, much better, as I had reviewed the information and had a better understanding of the material! I certianly think this is a good book for anyone planning to take the CCRN exam or wishing to brush up and learn more about critical care nursing in general! I definately believe this book is the book I need to help me pass the CCRN. I am planning to take the exam in September- I will leave and update to how I do after! Thanks again for this book.

I am very well acquainted with this pocketbook since its first publication in 1997. It is a very complete, thorough and to the point reference that is extremely useful for the busiest house officer. It permits you recall important criteria of classification and data that you always need to have available as an internist in the wards and in the ICU. For instance; the chapter on Renal is probably one of the best summaries ever written. To have this book immediately available gives a great sense of safety. It would be wonderful if it would be available for Palm.

Title: Critical Conditions: The Essential Hospital Guide to Get Your Loved One Out Alive

Author: Martine Ehrenclou, M.A.

"Hospital care has become hazardous to the patient's health." The proven statistics of hospital error related deaths are staggering!
Sad, but never more true than the crisis that exists today. Did we know it was coming? I believe many of us did and those that didn't, must not have listened to the news back in the late 70's, when many
healthcare representatives tried, in vain, to make the public aware of the inevitable decline of care in the future. After the `efficiency experts' recommendations were in, healthcare staff was severely
downsized. Complete nursing care by trained professionals, became a thing of the past.
The author, Martine Ehrenclou, has a mantra, "Your goal is to support the best possible medical care for your loved one." Either through sedation, stress or the illness itself, the patient often does not have
the presence of mind or the strength needed to be observant or understand the language of this foreign world. It has become imperative that family or friend, stay with their loved one most of the
time, and in many cases, around the clock.
Martine, through her own personal, tragic experiences, recognized the need for a survival guide. She became determined to bring awareness to the patient, as well as the patient's advocate and family, precisely what to expect and how to cope. She has written a matter-of-fact analysis of a hospital stay and the potential serious/deadly errors.
No stone has been left unturned as she intensely interviewed, researched, ultimately publishing this step by step, easy to follow book. She proves the importance of knowledge, so that you can become a
proactive advocate for your loved one. You need to be knowledgeable about the patient's condition so that you can converse with the healthcare team. She has stressed the importance of positive
communication, especially with the primary caregiver of each shift, to write everything down (especially any changes), wash your hands, humanize the patient, ask pertinent questions and so many more valuable facts.
At the end of each chapter, she has provided a page for notes, approximately 80 pages dedicated as a Quick Reference Guide for you to record in, followed by hospital staff and medical terms glossary.
References and index are provided as well as several impressive reviews. This guide is not only essential for the patient but perhaps a refresher for the overworked medical profession, business people and politicians.
Martine Ehrenclou, M.A. is a writer and public relations/marketing executive. She received her masters degree in psychology and currently runs writing groups for at-risk teenagers and adults.
In one way or another, few will escape being affected by a hospital stay. Be prepared and believe in the value of this book. I am unable to give her work enough praise and with highest regards, highly recommend this book to everyone. Reviewer: Cheryl Ellis, Allbooks Review

The lexicon provides excellent coverage of all English words used in the King James Version of the Bible. In addition passages where words are included in the critical Greek texts are also listed (an added bonus).

The concodances of both English and Greek are most helpful and adequate to the average student. It is like getting three books in one: a lexicon, English concordance and a Greek Concordance.

Another bonus feature are the appendices of various readings of the major Greek Critical texts. Most helpful are the variants given to the Codex Sinaiticus.

I own this concordance as well as strong's and young's. This one is by far the most informative, easy to use, and gets the most use in my house-hold. I have not found a Lexicon/concordance that is more insightful than this one (which doesn't mean one doesn't exist). The definitions in this concordance are clear, open up your understanding to God's word, and I actually find it easier to use than Strong's and Young's (it is designed to go alphabetical by the english word, and then you find the greek words that are used in translation with the verses under the english word). This book is truly more informative than anything else I've seen. For me this is a MUST OWN!!! You won't be disappointed by this book.

This Greek Lexicon is a great resource for the bible student or seeker of the real definitions of Greek words. This not only helps with defining a word but gives you a better idea of the context of an entire passage. For example the word "teach" used in 1 Tim. 2:12 is one of instruction or direction (leading a flock) but the teach" in 2 Tim. 2:24- meaning to instruct ( as in the context of skilled in teaching or the havin the ability to teach. This book gives you the scripture passages that the word occurs in and it is very helpful. The only draw back is the numbering is in ROman numerals, but its good practice.

Although this book can seem a bit daunting at first (I mean, it's over 1600 pages!) it is a wonderful book to have. It was required for my first semester in nursing school and I found myself using it even then to write care plans and find rationales and now that I'm in the med-surg semester I use it even more to refer to pathophysiology of patients conditions, look for tips on what to watch for in every patient that could indicate possible complications, etc. It includes a brief overview of the anatomy & physiology of the following body system and also gives an detailed, indepth step-by-step "how to" for assessments of a patient, including abnormal findings. It's a great tool to have at your fingertips to make you more aware of what to look for in your patients.

I can't imagine a more helpful study guide. Full of NCLEX test questions, their answers, and an explanation of WHY it is the correct answer (in the back of the book) plus succinct yet complete outlines of the chapters and more; this is a book for students who want to learn the nursing material as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Truly a gem of a book. Great for study/review the night before the test. I found this especially helpful with my study of Fluid, Electrolyte and Acid-Base Balance which is one of the more difficult concepts for me and many others to grasp. Use it along with the textbook, CD-ROM and companion websites for greater learning. Any time you spend in this book is time well-spent. A well-kept secret aid are the study guides to nursing textbooks which, at many schools, are "optional" to purchase, but trust me, they are mandatory for your learning! Good luck future nurses!

Sleeper, by Dr. Barry Friedman, is a fast-paced medical mystery that twists and turns right up to the surprising, climactic ending. You truly identify, and empathize, with Dr. Ben Allen and his challenge to diagnose the elusive symptoms before it's too late.

Once again the good doctor does what he does best and injects the reader with a healthy dose of suspense. In "Sleeper", his latest medical thriller, Barry Friedman, M.D. uses his lifetime of medical knowledge and experience to keep the reader guessing up until the very end. I enjoyed reading this book and am sure you will too.
