excellent reference book! contains everything you need to know somewhere in the book, and many parts are overlapping.
It's not particuarly readable for those looking to UNDERSTAND the basics of H&N.

Dr Hugh Curtin is probably the most prepared head and neck radiologist of the world.

I will be assisting Dr. Curtin and of course find the cases comprehensive, from the archives of the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary. The pathology spectrum is exhaustive.

*However, it seems that other reviews on this page are likely a practical joke, by mental infants.

The encylopedia of head and neck imaging

Review Date: 2003-07-28
The new 4th edition of H&N is the true definitive work on head and neck imaging. This is a MASSIVE text that differs drastically from the 3rd edition. Many sections have been re-organized and revamped. There is no question that it aims to be an all-encompassing, reference text. This is not the book for a resident to "read-through" during their H&N rotation. Harnberger's text is perfect for that role. This text should be present in every neuroradiology dept.'s library to be readily available for use as a REFERENCE. There is no question that this is the true heavyweight H&N imaging reference text. Any other text that purports to be is just kidding itself. I can only imagine how this book will be come the 6th and 7th editions. By then, I hope the Editors follow Dr. Resnick's lead and put out a "baby" 1 volume edition of Head and Neck Imaging. Then again, I guess that's what Dr. Harnsberger's book is for.

This is a great book for those beginning to learn cardiac CT. The physics part is not very extensive, but is clear enough for a non-radiologist (ie cardiology fellow) to follow.

I bought this book because I had heard of Budoff and ended up completing the course offered by Rumberger. The book was thorough yet concise, easy to read yet containing complicated subject matter. My friend bought a different CT book and he ended up reading mine becuase he liked it better. Definately would recommend the book. The book will also help you fly through Level II training.

I'm adding this book to my list of books that I'm using for the CT registry review. My only complaint, is that it doesn't have a chapter on head anatomy. It would be a more complete publication if it would cover this area.

Amazingly useful book.

Review Date: 2002-10-03
One of the best and most up-to-date treatises, covering all aspects of neuroradiology. The first few chapters cover the clinically relevant aspects of MRI physics which I have found extremely helpful. New and advanced MRI techniques are well covered from both a basic and clinical standpoint, a vital element not quite seen in other books. This book effectively fills the empty void between older and introductory textbooks such as Osborn's or Requisites and the multivolume subspecialty textbooks on various aspects of neuroradiology. The authors are an international group of experts in their field, mostly from the US. There is coverage of clinically relevant MRI physics, adult and pediatric brain imaging, orbits, sinuses, skull base, and the spine. There are also chapters on myelography, interventional neuroradiology, and spine interventions. The liberal use of tables in some chapters is very helpful and the figures are very well selected and produced.

A good general text

This is a good general text for anyone wanting to review both MRI physics and predominantly MRI neuroradiology. There are areas that use some CT etc., but the emphasis is definitely on MRI.

A good textbook of neuroradiology

Review Date: 2000-04-12
According to the publisher's advertisement, this single-volume textbook of neuroradiology "is destined to be the new benchmark among text/reference books for neuroradiology etc". This flagrant overstatement should not discredit the book. Despite the usual problems with multi-authored books of this size (the style is not uniform, particular chapters do generally better than others, and progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy is not the same as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease), this book is generally well-organized, its coverage is comprehensive enough and by this time it is probably the most up-to-date textbook of neuroradiology in the market.

Anatomic atlas for body imaging
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-21
Organized into chest, abdomen, pelvis and MR angiography of the lower extremity, this book is excellent in junior residents to learn multiplanar anatomy. The MR images are T1 weighted with schematics of normal anatomy and quality is excellent. CT images are provided in the axial plane are equally good. Also covered is basic MR angiography of the chest, abdomen, and lower extremities.

This book is a worthwhile investment for those considering anatomic atlases for a nominal cost. Highly recommend this book.

A good friend of mine recommended this as an amazing book. Then I went to buy it at the book store and couldn't recall the author so I asked and the store clerk nearly lost his pants he was so excited I was buying it. 'One of my favorite books' he told me. So I was pretty excited that this book was going to be pretty good.

I really don't think there's much worth explaining, but I really did not like this book at all. In fact, after page 168 I closed it for good which I try to never do -- especially that far into a 350 page book. But it was boring and dry for me with no real plot. It reminded me of Middlesex a bit where there is no real crisis to the plot, except to examine this cultural idea or whatever. Well, this book feels the same to me. It seems more a look at Ireland's history than anything of actual plot line substance. And I don't mean to offend anybody by saying this book was that bad, but for me it really was awful. The worst part for me was the writing. I'm sure it's helpful to be familiar with Irish dialect but the whole read was chaotic and flowed -- well it didn't flow. At all. I feel left out since so many people enjoy it and I'm sad to say it, but this is probably the worst book I've read 168 pages of in my life. =o(

A (Revolutionary) Star is Born

A wonderful journey into Ireland around the time of WWI and after: the author can make you taste, smell, hear, and, of course, see the place. I knew nothing about the nitty gritty of Ireland's problems politically, but now I have a great bird's eye view of the whole conflict. All of this while at the same time we see a real have-nothing Irish kid growing up to learn to hate the "enemy." As the book progresses, he finally comes to see himself as a dispensable tool of whoever he is working for...a truly sad awakening that puts the lie to those Revolutionary ideals. This story is so true to life that it shows us something of what Peggy Noonan wrote about in the Wall St. Journal yesterday: "They would grow up and assign their misery to outside forces. The boy humiliated because he's never sent to school with a clean shirt will turn that into 'Britain Get Out of Ireland.'....We often think it is large and abstract forces that drive history, when it is personal forces, too." The life of Henry Smart is a masterly illustration of this.

A Must For Researchers

Review Date: 2007-05-18
As Continental forces and Virginia militia units were engaged in winning independence, American quartermasters and provisioners struggled to provide these units with all the necessities of life, from meals and guns to meat, fodder for horses, the horses themselves, firewood, and every other type of material. Much of this was requisitioned from the civilian population and certificates were issued payable in either continental or state funds, depending on the units supplied, upon presentation to court authorities. Thousands of these certificates issued to Virginians were duly entered by the courts, and they provide a fascinating insight into the period of the Revolution. These "Publick" Claims booklets contain interesting and useful information about the contributions of ordinary people to the Revolutionary War. They provide some details of people's service in the militia or as guards for prisoners of war; they indicate where some bodies of troops were at particular times; and they identify providers of horses, wagons, cattle, grain, or other supplies. Much of the information in these booklets cannot be found anywhere else, which makes the surviving records particularly valuable. Also remarkable is the fact that records survived from virtually every county in the state at that time with the exception of the newly formed Kentucky counties. This makes the collection even more valuable in covering areas which heretofore in this time period have suffered from a lack of personal data. The "Virginia Publick Claims" are published by counties. In addition to a faithful transcription by Janice Luck Abercrombie and the late Richard Slatten, a complete index is provided for each county booklet. This series is an extremely important genealogical tool for searchers in Revolutionary-era materials.

Silly me, I followed the advice of others and ordered this book without taking any review classes. It is great if you have already learned everything you need to know for the registry, and need a light review of test questions, but if you have yet to come that far - this is NOT the book for you. If you do not understand why you answered a question incorrectly - too bad! There is no explanation, so you are on your own. CT class first - then this book of questions.

i just took the registry, Nov 2008, and highly recimmend this book as a review, I memorized these questions. Along with a complete review course, like MTMI, you should be well prepared. I didn.t have as much practical lab work as I wanted to, but I scored 81. NOTE, spend time on abnormal cases as well as normal anatomy. Get this book, study and good luck.

Registry Review in Computed Tomography

I was surprised how much this book helped me pass my CT registry! The book is pretty old, but much of the content still applies. Obviously, the anatomy questions are still good, but I found that alot of the other questions were still applicable too. This isn't the only book I used to study, but I would highly recommend it as part of your study tools for the CT registry!

As a 2nd year Radiology resident, this book is a good primer for CT and MRI correlates. It's in no way a substitute for a text or full-series discussion, but to solidify key concepts of common pathology as your reviewing cases initially, it's hard to beat.
