This is a really good introduction for understanding the concepts of Ayurveda. Studying this book will help anyone gain much knowledge of this ancient and universal healing art and its deep philosophical foundation. Add a few books by Dr. David Frawley and there's a good start at a library.

This is an outstanding, concise guide to homeopathy. It very clearly defines the homeopathic process and provides the reader with good definitions with regard to remedies. This is a must have for anyone who would like a good basic introduction to homeopathy.

I have given this book to people who are interested in homeopathy and highly recommend it to homeopaths to give to their patients. It is important to educate the patients and for everyone to learn about the wonderful world of homeopathy.

This book is a must read for psychiatrists who might be interested in new findings in psychopharmacology. It contains an excellent overview, contains many well-written meta-reviews. Its scientific standard is very high.
Especially the chapters describing omega3-fatty acids, inositol and SAM-e are very helpful and inspiring. The only problem I have with the information in this book is that the natural compounds described are difficult to acquire in Europe, but I can't fault the authors for that.

Nice holistic guide to understanding & healing addictions
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-16
Stephanie Marohn expands her efforts to educate the public about holistic approaches to health, especially in the mental health field. In this book she presents the same 5 levels of healing model described in some of her other books. Everything from orthomolecular and dietary issues to acupuncture, family systems, energy psychology, and shamanism are discussed. Descriptions of a variety of natural health approaches are included to offer a representative sample of available resources to address addiction issues. Most approaches to addressing addictions only focus on 1 or 2 of the levels in the holistic model shared by Marohn, so it is refreshing to see a book with depth of insight and variety of options explored. Conventional efforts to overcome addiction are often superficial and inadequate and this book offers insights as to why - and what approaches have been helpful for many people, including the clinical examples shared in this book. This book isn't comprehensive in outlining all the approaches currently available, but it is a good introduction to natural addiction recovery and presents a useful conceptualization of the subject.

Review Date: 2003-04-08
The Natural Medicine Guide To Depression by medical journalist Stephanie Marohn informatively studies a wide variety of causes for depression and recommends an assortment of treatments (other than drugs) that can help alleviate depression and its diverse symptomatology. Natural medicine treatments such as homeopathy, flower essence therapy, psychic healing, traditional Chinese medicine, and others are discussed, in this thoughtful guide. However, the remedies here showcased should not be seen as a first resort because the experience of a professional doctor is of utmost importance. The Natural Medicine Guide is a recommended supplement to, not a replacement of, standard medical care in the treatment of depression.

This is a great book! The CD that comes with the book is excellent as well. The authors provide comprehensive information on holistic medicine as it relates to specific problems. The book covers a wide range of topics and includes numerous natural healing protocols for each. Although abit expensive, this book beats the competition hands down! If you are looking for a single source that covers all aspects of natural health, then this is the book for you.

I finished this book on a transatlantic flight and found it hard to put down. Although written primarily those treating patients directly, this book is written with an easy to read style that makes it enjoyable, and I think would be accessible even for those with less technical training. The author takes lots of study data and sumamrizes what is known and not known about the most common products our patients are using. The format uses patient cases as a learning tool. It also discusses the role of usual agents--and where the others fit in. I am much more confident in the use of these agents--and also in where to go when I need more information or wish to recommend a particular product. I highly recommend it.

Powerful information for parents!
Helpful Votes: 38 out of 38 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-10
This book helped our family put the brakes on the out-of-control rollercoaster ride of asthma. "Natural Relief for Your Child's Asthma" empowers parents with page after page of specific instructions on how to reduce your child's dependence on medication by understanding the limits of conventional medicine, finding and avoiding triggers, using food as a healer, using supplements to strengthen your child and using alternative mind-body medicine to enhance your child's well-being. While the authors have lots of great information about how to reduce dependence on medicine over time, they aren't zealots who encourage you to turn your back on conventional medicine. The real power that comes from this book is that now, when I go to see my child's asthma specialist, I can ask informed questions about my son's condition. I'm no longer a note taker jotting down what medicines my child should take when. I can encourage my doctor to challenge us to make dietary and lifestyle changes to detoxify our child's environment that he might not otherwise have mentioned assuming that we would prefer the "easy" way out of finding stronger and stronger medicines to rescue our child. I strongly encourage any parent of a child with asthma to read this book!

It is a simple guide for laics searching an alternative to the local drugstore. It has a god, structured list of major illnesses with a list of its symtoms, herbal and homeopatic treatments. A good and very practical starter for a natural medicine beginner. And a good sum-up for the more advanced ones.
