It seems we live in an increasingly complex world. We've got so many different options, especially in regards to our health care. Sometimes, trying to find just the right strategies for our health issues is confusing.

The Healing Sourcebook looks at nine different complementary medicine techniques: aromatherapy, reflexology, Reiki, Bach Flower remedies, Homeopathy, herbal medicine, crystal therapy, yoga, and meditation. The goal of this book is to educate the reader about his or her options while giving them a little taste of how each method works.

Unlike similar books that tend to serve as either a summary of available techniques or an advertising directory for practitioners, The Healing Sourcebook is written to empower readers in taking control of their health. The basics set out here, can be used by virtually any reader. Then, if a method or methods resonate with them, he or she can delve deeper into these areas.

Natural Mineral Hot Springs - the (nearly) complete list
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.

It's almost impossible to find one spot, even online, that tells you every place in the world where you can enjoy such delicious natural spring waters. In California, we are fortunate to have Desert Hot Springs so close by. The Europeans have enjoyed their benefits for eons. Italy even makes them available to all its citizens as part of their entitlement to good health. Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, have many, even Mexico has. So many are listed here for us so that we Americans, too, can know from which to choose to go. This book is a rare treat.

Jan Sutton's Second Edition
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-19
Jan Sutton has been a leading advocate for better understanding and treatment of self-injury. She maintains two websites in the U.K. that provide many helpful suggestions and also assist caregivers. The second edition of this book has an attractive cover consisting of artwork by a self-injurer in recovery. Beyond the cover, the book clearly differentiates suicide from self-injury. It also provides many useful suggestions as to how to overcome self-injury. The book is informal in style and is unique in that it gives an equal voice to self-injurers themselves. The book is interspersed with many autobiographical statements, poems, and artwork from self-injurers. Jan Sutton's compassion and respect for self-injurers is clear throughout the book.

I highly recommend this book for self-injurers, their significant others, and helping professionals.

The Healing Voice

Review Date: 2006-03-27
In virtually every culture throughout history, human beings used toning, chanting and singing to praise their Creator and to heal their bodies and spirits. Our conventional Judeo-Christian culture is almost devoid of this healing tradition. Perhaps to fill this need, toning - the sustained, vibratory sounding of single tones, often vowel sounds - is quickly becoming a valuable tool for spiritually awakiening people. Bypassing language entirely, toning allows us to express the heart and soul directly, quieting the over-active left brain.

Perspective from a smoker's child.
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-20
God, I whish my mother and father had this book. For their sakes and for mine.

Simple, clear and direct to the point on how to reverse this lethal curse.

I recomend it highly to anyone that smokes, has the desire to quit and particularly if you have or are planning to have children. PLEASE, JUST DO IT... if not for you then for them. It just is NOT worth it. All the bronchitis, pneumonia (took my father), asthma and emphysema not to mention the hart disease and cancers (took my mother).

Of course, the psychological aspects of this addiction/illness are also horrific... Why do mommy and daddy want to kill themselves? Don't they love me?

If you are dead set on suicide please consider another more rapid way. This has to be one of the slowest most painful and worst ways to do it.

Lovingly, honestly and respectfully submitted.

An excellent introduction to a sacred tradition of healing
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-09
Mr Torres's book provides and insightful and accurate introduction to the folk healing traditions of Mexico and the American southwest. The book is well-organized and scholarly, but very readable to the non-academic. It covers the history and personality of the Curandero(healer), the various types of aliments they typically treat, herbs and plants employed and even provides short biographies of several famous healers. I would highly reccommend this book to anyone wishing to begin their study of theis sacred heaaling tradition. Well done Mr Torres!
