I enjoyed this book. Its concise, easy to read, and informative. The ideas presented in the book work. Plain and simple.

I have read many different healing books and this one in particular has things you can do to help yourself in addition to other alternative methods such as energy work, and yoga, etc.

You can also use this text as a springboard for learning more about herbs and things of that nature. :)

I liked it, I give a thumbs up and I think you will as well.

Everything but the kitchen sink

This is a one-stop-shopping approach to wellness, written in an engaging and no-nonsense style. It covers herbal remedies, food combining, reiki, crystals, and much more. While the author doesn't position herself as a replacement for a physician, this is an excellent book to look into if, like many people these days, you have some doubts about the often harmful chemical 'solutions' that allopathic medicine throws at various ailments, hoping they'll work. Many of the remedies in this book, on the other hand, have proven their effectiveness over thousands of years. Which do you prefer: a flu shot that probably won't work and in fact injects harmful agents into your body, or a more holistic approach that makes your body more ready for battle against flu, cold, or whatever else the environment challenges it with? This book gives you the tools. Stop being a guinea pig for toxic modern 'medicine'; stick to a gentler way that works.

Excellent well researched book on woman healers

Excellent well researched book on the roots and history of woman in medicine and healing. Jeanne Achterberg does an excellent job with a difficult subject. Most of the written documentation about women has been destroyed or misinterpreted by male scholars throughout history. One must be a thorough detective to sift through all of the documentation to find information on this subject. Her interpretations are fair and,I believe, totally valid. This book is for anyone who is a healer or works in the medical profession or those of us who understand the bias in research writen by white european males. To those of you who disparage such work, because of lack of evidence, I suggest you look toward your spirit, and contemplate the injustice of destroying the evidence of the past and then writing your own history to justify the power you hold.

A life-changing read!

I have taken Wu Style Tai Chi and this is the only
book I found that was identical to the teachings of
my instructor. Precise, easy to understand with an
excellent explanation of the practice. I highly
recommend it for anyone taking Wu Style Tai Chi.

Simply put, this is a very good book. It explains so many useful concepts that you need to focus on and try to apply in your tai chi practice. The language (including the very useful translations from Tai Chi Classics) is clear and the book is well organized. Notice however that although the book also describes the slow form, you will not be able to learn it from the book. The form is there for reference.

This was one of the first books I read on the power of your thoughts, how it relates to our spiritual energy, and how you can bring about powerful change to your life, simply by changing the focus of your thoughts. This book is filled with great examples, affirmations, exercises and inspirations which truly does convince me that your thoughts CAN change your life.

Where the Focus Goes, The Energy Flows
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-14
I really feel that the title of this book is kind of misleading. To me, it's not a question if whether or not your thoughts can change your life, it's a question of what kind of thoughts do you really want to think because every thought you have will change your life. This does not mean that one must monitor their every thought, but what this does mean is that we need to become more consciously aware of where our focus is upon. Is our focus on debt or abundance? Is our focus on health or disease? Is our focus on struggle or inner empowerment? You see, we can at any time, change our focus and where our attention is, there will be our reality. As a mentor of mine used to tell me repeatedly, "Where the focus goes, the energy flows..." Not bad for an eighty year old codger with twelve teeth. But, he, too, was a major lesson for me...if I had just gone by appearances, I would've seen this skinny, wrinkly prune of a human being with bug eyes and hair that stood straight up in the air like he was being shocked. But after working closely with the man for more than eight years, I focused on something more than his appearance, I focused on his compassion, his humility, his genuine love for God and for life and how he was "grooming" me to become the best me I could be...

I miss you, Robert...gimme a sign that you're still around me, sometime, okay?

Anyway, about this book by Donald Curtis, who I met, by the way...incredible man...full of energy, passion, and vision. This book is written in the same way. It is a very passionate book. It's not screaming at you with trite cliches on how you can better your life; it simply states that you can change your life, if you change your thoughts about it. I find myself saying this a lot to clients but I also tell them that they must keep their thoughts changed...in other words, you must keep the focus on what you are attempting to uncover...

You see, a lot of beginning metaphysical students...and I was one, once...think that it's all about "making" something happen. You are making the universe provide you with wealth, health, and success. Not true. Not true, at all. We are letting something happen. We are letting the Truth be known that we are ALREADY abundant, we are ALREADY healthy, we are ALREADY successful, we just need to get out of our way long enough to see that God has given us everything ALREADY to live lives that are abundant in every way.

So, yes...I do recommend this book it is a metaphysical classic. It was written, I believe, in 1961 so it's not a "shiny new penny"...and yes, there are A LOT of books currently "out there" that have much the same information, but the reason why I am suggesting this book is because the man who wrote this book, Donald Curtis, was "steeped" in this stuff. He lived it 28 hours a day, nine days aweek. He truly was a great ambassador of this "mental/spiritual" approach to life.

A quick story before I shut up.

I went to see Mr. Curtis at a church in Los Angeles. At the time, he was about 77 years old, so he was getting up in years. He gave an outstanding lecture and I talked with him about 45 minutes after the lecture. Amazing man. Funny, brilliant, charismatic. Well, about a year and a half later, I attended another one of his lectures and I went up to him again and he looked at me, smiled, and said, "It's so nice to see you again, John..." He had remembered my name! He remembered who I was, what we talked about, who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do with this "stuff" and it really melted my heart and made me appreciate this "science" and its teachings in a whole new way.

So, I'll shut up now and I really hope you consider buying this book but until then, FOCUS on what is ALREADY present within you now; GOD!

Peace and Blessings..

Accepting Your Power to Heal
Helpful Votes: 53 out of 57 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-03
Therapeutic Touch involves using your hands to heal all living beings by "consciously directing or sensitively modulating human energies." It doesn't require physical contact. Therapeutic Touch is based on several principles, two of which are "illness is an imbalance in an individual's energy field" and "human beings have natural abilities to transform and transcend their conditions of living."

Therapeutic Touch was developed and refined by Dr. Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz, based on their studies of ancient healing practices. They've since taught the procedure to thousands of health care practitioners and laypersons.

Dr. Krieger's book, Accepting Your Power to Heal: The Personal Practice of Therapeutic Touch, teaches readers how help themselves and their loved ones with Therapeutic Touch. The process involves "centering" yourself, then becoming sensitive to the energy fields all living beings have.

Therapeutic Touch can be used to help people relax, to reduce pain, and accelerate healing. Dr. Krieger provides numerous examples of benefits, including relief from the pain of cancer, headaches, burns, and fractured bones. Therapeutic Touch is also helpful to pregnant women and people suffering from chronic conditions like asthma. Some people have also used it to help their pets, while others have used it in their gardens.

Accepting Your Power to Heal has been on the book stands for several years. The method outlined in it has been proven time and again to be beneficial to people suffering from various illnesses, including AIDS. Readers "who are committed to helping or healing persons in need" will find it to be an invaluable resource.

While I was a student of the New England School of Acupuncture I had the great pleasure of being a student in Marie's clinic for 3 years. She is a practitioner of the highest quality. She was trained by Dr. James Tin Yau So, also at the New England School of Acupunture and is one of America's most senior practitioners. Her book is a great introduction for laypeople and a resouce for students. I highly reccomend it!

Powerful Insights for Acupuncturists
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-24
This is one of the books required by the California State Board. And it's the only one I enjoyed studying.

It was only used at our school by teachers for classroom use or testing purposes. However, it contains some advanced channel and pattern pathomechanisms... the kind we only get a little exposure to in English.

Occasionally a Chinese teacher will talk about something like this for which we have no literature (For example, my herbal teacher mentioned a pattern called "Dragon Fire" which was mentioned nowhere in the English literature), so I already suspected we were missing out on some pathomechanisms, etc. Acu Case Histories fills in some of the gaps.

Especially interesting is the section on neurology. There is some fascinating discussion of the Du meridian, its relationship to neurological problems, pathogens, and other meridians.

This book is acupuncture only... in fact, half the patients in the book had already tried biomedicine AND HERBAL MEDICINE without result. It's easy (with the basic training we get in school) to begin to find herbal medicine more powerful than acupuncture. This book will show you some of the ways in which acupuncture can exceed herbal medicine.
