If long term experience in a field count, well, here is one author that knows his field well... Adding vitamins, minerals and other supplements is an important point of controversy in the field of nutrition. Some claim it to be unnecesary while others say its crucial; well here is one of THE sources of pro-supplement research and clinical work bases for the layman and professional alike. Can Oxygen cure cancer
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-23
1. Can Oxygen therapies cure cancer? Clinical and laboratory studies show that therapeutic ozone and hydrogen peroxide play an important role in cancer therapy.

2. Oxidative therapies increase the activity of immunocompetent cells, stimulate the release of cytokines, upregulate the body's antioxidant system and induce mild activation of the immune system. Activating the patient's neuro-endocrine system causes the patient to experience less pain and greater sense of well-being.

3. Most practitioners will not promise that oxidative therapies will cure cancers, the more conservative leaders in the field recommend ozone or hydrogen peroxide as a complementary medical procedure that can enhance the effectiveness of traditional cancer therapies and perhaps reduce the adverse side effects of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.

4. Dr J.W Finney, in 1962 stated, "The use of Hydrogen Peroxide as a source of oxygen in a Regional Intra-arterial Infusion System revealed that cancer cells become more sensitive to irradiation in the presence of increased oxygen tension produced by hydrogen peroxide." The researchers noted increased regional oxygenation, which led them to believe that there is an increased therapeutic ratio in malignant tumors receiving radiation when oxygen levels of the affected area are increased with hydrogen peroxide.

5. During a Baylor University cancer study of inoperable abdominal tumors, intra-arterial hydrogen peroxide and irradiation was administered. The researchers wanted to see if hydrogen peroxide could shrink the tumors and make them amenable to surgery. Two of the three experience shrinkage of the tumor and underwent successful operations to remove the tumors. One of the patients experience not shrinkage and was sent home. He began to improve over the next several months and the tumor began shrinking considerably. The doctors removed the shrunken tumor.

6. Tottori University School of Medicine in Japan in 1966, fifteen patients suffering from maxilliary cancer (cancer of the nasal cavity) were given intra-arterial infusions of hydrogen peroxide daily for ten days followed by daily injections of mitomycin C, an antibiotic showing anti-tumor activity. Of the fifteen cases treated with hydrogen peroxide and Mutamycin, eight show almost a complete disappearance of the tumor, while six experienced a partial reduction. One had little change. The changes involve either an actual shrinking of the tumor or a softening of a hard tumor.

7. Dr. Carl F Nathan and Dr. Zanvil A Cohn wrote, "Hydrogen peroxide contributes to the lysis [destruction] of tumor cells by macrophages [immune cells] and granulocytes [white blood cells] in vitro." They found that 8 milligrams of hydrogen peroxide was able to kill more than 90 percent of P338 lymphoma cells.

8. Researchers in 1989, found that peroxidase in Hodgkin's disease sensitizes the tumor cells to killing by low levels of hydrogen peroxide. The idea was to deliver cytotoxic quantities of hydrogen peroxide to Hodgkin's disease.

9. Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, investigated the efficiency of using hydrogen peroxide as an adjuvant therapy after extended local curettage (scaping away lesions) for benign cell tumors of the bone. Cell cultures taken from the tumor tissue of six patients was cultured and treated with hydrogen peroxide for 2 minutes. Hydrogen peroxide was very effective in killing giant tumors of bone.

10. In 2001, a group of researchers from the Department of Life Sciences at Nottingham Trent University injected hydrogen peroxide solutions in solid tumors in mice and found the solutions had the potential to cause tumor cell death without generating dangerous by-products. They were impressed concluding that hydrogen peroxide was a potential cytotoxic agent. Hydrogen peroxide used as an anti-cancer drug benefits are that it cheap and cost effective.

11. In 2003, Jackson State University in Mississippi explored the combined effect of oxidative stress with hydrogen peroxide, Nigella sativa, a medicinal herb from the Middle East, on breast cancer. The combination of hydrogen peroxide, ethanol, and Nigella sativa could inactivate MCF-7 cancer cells.

A top pick for any modern health collection

Many disease states are caused by oxygen starvation at a cellular level: this is a fact scientists largely agree upon. THE OXYGEN PRESCRIPTION: THE MIRACLE OF OXIDATIVE THERAPIES, therefore, is founded on accepted scientific findings and not new age dreaming: it discusses oxidative therapies in holistic health and has been completely updated and expanded from its second edition to discuss such therapies in dentistry and veterinary medicine as well as general health. Discussions of such treatments for cancer, hepatitis and other disorders offer plenty of insights into medical findings and health interactions, making THE OXYGEN PRESCRIPTION a top pick for any modern health collection, especially those considering alternative therapy options.

The potential buyer/reader needs to know that "Prakruti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution" is the first edition. The significantly revised second edition is titled "Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution" (Prakriti with two i's, not Prakruti with a u). While it is instructional for the scholar to read and note the differences between the two editions, I recommend the second edition to the first time buyer/reader.

BRAVING THE VOID
Journeys into Healing

Book review
By
Dr. Stephen J. Faulkner
Duncan, B.C.

For physicians and health care workers who are interested in Energy Healing and holistic approaches to health care, this book is a landmark work. Dr. Michael Greenwood's second book "Braving the Void - Journeys into Healing" is a well written, easy to read account of his experiences and insights as a physician and acupuncturist at the Victoria Pain Clinic.

Physicians in primary care reading this book will immediately resonate with some of his ideas on chronic pain and chronic illness. For example, the discussion of the doctor-patient relationship and the increasing trend of modern medicine to practice by protocols and algorithms using "evidence based" treatments is very relevant.

"To suggest one form of treatment is good for all people in all situations seems patently absurd, yet physicians have allowed fear to provoke them to abandon their inner strength and relinquish their authority when dealing with patients"

The concept of the void, which was initially developed in his first book, "Paradox and Healing", co-authored with Dr. Peter Nunn, is one that is best experienced to be appreciated and understood. Having experienced the void myself in therapeutic situations it is something I believe all holistic physicians and healers must experience and enter into periodically to be fully aware of what is happening both for themselves and their patients. Michael Greenwood has embraced this belief and, together with his other staff members, has developed a model for energy healing for conditions as diverse as chronic back pain and chronic fatigue, to breast cancer and multiple personality disorder. Other areas I found extremely interesting were the case histories on phantom limb pain, electrical burns and shamanic possessions.

Dealing with these "energies" can be extremely fatiguing and at times frightening, and Dr. Greenwood has been very modest about his experiences. He should be considered the James Cook of the human psyche, beginning to chart new continents and oceans of human energy, which have been previously "Terra Incognito" to western minds. His medical training is the navigational equipment required to prevent him landing on the rocks and his skills as a humane physician and acupuncturist the gift that provides safety through the gale-force winds and ocean storms.

This kind of work, dealing with chronic pain and the failures of so many other "so called" orthodox treatments also brings up the shadow work that a healthy society must engage in for its survival. As Michael suggests, our health care system is all too ready to focus on the "light" and "positive" aspects of our culture but reluctant to approach the "dark" or "negative" aspects. This is not the kind of work for the faint-hearted. A willingness to explore one's own shadow side and belief system is essential if one is going to navigate the unpalatable places of the client's psyche. Fortunately for us, there are pioneers like Michael Greenwood who are giving us frameworks to work with such as the void from which we can springboard into the unconscious material that lies stored in the body/mind continuum.

I would thoroughly recommend this book to all health care professionals involved in holistic and energy healing.

For anyone in the healing arts who ponders and struggles with patients and their chronic diseases, this is a must read. Both authors re-evaluate the dilemna of chronic illness and pain from a holistic standpoint. Western medicine has fared poorly when it comes to chronic problems which is frustrating for both "healer" and "patient". However, by reframing the approach to sickness, chronic disease can be viewed as a transformational process. Disease and healing, the authors contend, are one in the same. Conventional medicine fails to acknowledge the emotional side of disease because of its "irrationality". We only recognize the "structural" aspects of disease because of its inherent rationality. Unfortunately the most perplexing problems in medicine cannot be adequately dealt with by the rational approach alone. As a society, though, approaching from the irrational standpoint is taboo. By embracing both the rational and irrational, patients can begin the personal transformation necessary to heal themselves. A concept quite foreign to the conventional practitioner. To quote the authors: "Transformation is a profound change of heart made possible by the renewed sense of being which comes from facing the paradoxical nature of our existence." In order to illustrate the concept of transformation, the authors drawn upon myths. Unlike other teaching tools, myths provide a venue for the irrational to interact with the rational. This offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate the functional and structural aspects of illness. For the western trained mind this book can be a revelation but for some it will certainly be considered heretical. This book matches crisp insight with a fervent mission to challenge even the most "holy" of western medical beliefs.

Inner healing

I was at a yard sale, filling a bag up with books for a dollar, and I got home to see what I happened upon. This book caught my eye.(Yes, I have spent all day reading this book) Dr. Gladys McGarey is an amazing doctor, much needed in our society today. Having been in practice for 50 years in the year this was written (1997) She let go of some of the stifling medical training that boxed her in and used some methods uncommon in medical practice today, her intuition, natural healing methods, and teaching the patients that they within themselves know what is the best choice in their medical care. She is an allopathic and homeopathic doctor, but the most important thing about her is that she believes we all have a Physician within us. We know. She has amazing stories of Cancer remissions and cures of diseases not treated the traditional way, with use of alternative principles that suit the patient. Like many doctors that have tested the establishment, she too has had her share of threats, etc. for treating people in unconventional ways (and actually making them better) Her genuine positive spirit and belief in people is amazing. She is a true healer and this book completely uplifted me. Don't miss out by not reading this book.
On another note, I found out she is in practice down the street from me, if she is still practicing medicine. If I ever happen to need her guidance!

An incredible book that shows the power of Inner Healing.

This book captivated me and changed me. The detail about inner healing in this book was dramatic and amazing. It helped me understand that there is a physician within. It was wonderful getting to know Gladys better through this book. Reading it made me want to be a physician. I will soon convince my peers who intend to be physician that they need to read this book. I can imagine this book changing the lives of millions. Thank you Nanni.

This is one of those small but great gems that is not getting the recognition it is suppose to. I first purchased the book in Spanish, and then got the English edition, and I have to say I found this book to be really informative and helpful. Learn the ceremonial usages of Copal, Sweet Grass, Ritual Tobacco, Osha Root, White Sage, Cedar, Mugwort and Lavender. Learn the historical and ritualistic usages for these plants as was used by the Wise Men and Woman of the various Indigenous tribes who used them, and passed on these wisdoms to the healers, spiritists, and witch doctors of modern time.
Traditionally in my Spiritist back ground we offer tobacco to our Spirit Guides and Ancestors, the book offers traditional prayers that can be used or adjusted a bit to work for your spiritual purposes.
I found the historical information very useful and informative. One of those books that does not get the recognition it desreves. It's Spanish edition has become quite the favorite to Curanderos, Brujos, and Santeros. I highly recommend this small little wonder, Useful information.

The Best Homeopathic Book Ever
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-26
I have a number of books on homeopathy, but this one book is the one I turn to the most for everything. The pages of my book are well worn, a sure sign that I thumb through repeatedly, looking for the remedies that apply to the condition at hand.

This book also has a great chapter on 'killer epidemics' and remedies that would be most useful to have on-hand. The other section of the book that has been read over and over is the chapter on 'menopause'. Actually the chapter is called a 'symptom-free menopause without HRT'. This one chapter has helped not only me, but some of my friends and family (female, of course).

With the exception of a couple of chapters that I pretty much skim over, the entire book is worth it's weight in gold, at least that is my opinion. I've been using homeopathy for the last 18 years with much success. And, I have a son who was born with Down's Syndrome. Homeopathy has helped him to become a healthy and happy young man.

If you like and use homeopathic remedies, this book is definitely one that should be on your bookshelf. If you don't use remedies, maybe reading this book will inspire you to learn more about this non-invasive and natural healing modality.

Emotional, acute, menopause etc. When I bought this book, I had just started menopause, and nothing I was trying was fixing my dozens & dozens a day back to back hotflashes until this book. I found the right remedy and hot flashes were gone in an afternoon. A true life saver.

Excellent reference. I find the last 2 books that this replaces still relevant in my search to learn more about polarity therapy. This current edition has a few moves that were not previously published (see the causal body balance).
There is some wonderful teaching and it is an excellent reference.
I have found it helps connect the dots between what I learned and didn't learn from the school i went to to study polarity.
I am very appreciative of this work as it deserves to be on the shelf of any polarity therapist, or massage therapist, looking to go deeper.

What I liked most about this book is Siegel explains WHY you are doing a particular move. For me it fills a gap left by other books. Franklyn Sills' book doesn't connect theory with any protocol. John Beaulieu's workbook is excellent for protocols but there isn't any theory. Bruce Berger give protocols and theory but they are not connected. With Siegel's book I found it possible to be more flexible and creative in my practice. I even have been able to make sense of a few things in Randolph Stone's books I would have like to have seen more illustrations of the moves and more detailed references to the Randolph Stone books, but these are minor quibbles. Highly recommeded.
