If Your Having a Baby, Read this Book

We should bring our new babies into the world with care and compassion, rather than violence and suffering. It is that simple, and that obvious. Even if you already know that, reading Dr. Leboyer's short but poetic title, will help you tune into the natural rhythm and pulses of life. I highly recommend it.

If you want to continue a non-violent and caring way for your child after birth, I wrote a book about early infant and toddler care, based upon indigenous wisdom across the globe Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6)

Real Birthing for Peaceful People

Back in the '70's when I was still delivering babies, before epidurals replaced empowered birthing, this was, and still is, the best set of directions for welcoming a baby into planet earth's atmosphere.

An unanticipated plus for me, was seeing the fathers connect with their new babies floating in body temperature water, while mom got tidied up.

Alot of these father's were carrying their newborns into the office for follow up the next days and weeks, too. Quite an approach, and I sent this book to friends expecting this summer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Although I first read this book 30 years ago, its message is still as vital today. I highly recommend it to all expectant parents as well as those medical and mental health practitioners interested in a simple way to bring more peaceful and less traumatized children into the world. As a soon-to-be grandparent, Birth Without Violence topped the list of "must-haves" for my daughter.

This is the best book I have read on all the 20 or more pregnancy books I have read recently ! It is a masterpiece! This French man brought to the world an amazing, most touching, revolutionary way to honor the sacredness of childbirth. This book has brought to me reverence for the baby's needs, and has hlep me understand the importance to create a sacred space for the baby and the mother.

Thank you Frederick LeBoyer for your incredible contribution to this world!

This is a staggeringly powerful and important book. Our relationship with the earth and all of its inhabitants is crucial to our continued biological, psychological and spiritual health and our survival as a species. Why we continue to ignore and deride this very real fact is a devastating mystery to me - this book, however, not only illuminates, in poignant and heart-breaking ways, our continued ignorance, but offers the reader the opportunity to begin learning how to reestablish this most fundamental of relationships. Liberally sprinkled with some truly excellent quotations from various authors, activists and thinkers, and full of some terrifying information about the pharmaceutical industry, this book is a captivating read. It is an incredibly useful text for anyone, most especially for those practicing a plant-based system of healing, as it gives a philosophical groundwork that every holistic herbalist can incorporate into their practice and their lifestyle.

I just want to add my personal take...

I won't go into what the other reviewers have already said about the beauty and sensitivity of this book. (I have had experiences in the garden with certain "weeds" seeming to beckon to me to eat them, and that is why I bought this book, to see if there might be something to this.) I was blown away by how incredibly SMART plants are!

But I just have to say that I am literally trembling now after having read the sections on the preponderance and endurance of pharmaceutical drugs, medical wastes, and antibiotics in the environment.

I am one of those who must take several of the top ten drugs "for life," but I tend to have extremely bad reactions to drugs of all types. I am disabled now, I'm convinced, in large part due to pharmaceutical drugs and ubiquitous chemicals that have seriously undermined my health. I know that it takes a very long time (a) to get over the damaging side effects of drugs that don't agree with me and (b) to find drugs that will work for me. I would not take any drugs if I could find a workable alternative, so bad have my experiences with pharmaceuticals been.

Now I am concerned like I never have been before about the effect of all these drugs polluting our environment. I have tended to think in terms of those pills ending with me, even if it might take years to get over the terrible effects on my body and brain. Now I know that every single living thing on this planet is affected by these drugs...and not just one of them, ALL of them mixed together! Any pharmacist will tell you that the more drugs you combine, the more likely you're going to get seriously bad reactions.

And then I think of all the people I've known personally who have been addicted to benzodiazepines, Ambien, Xanax, and the like who were stark raving bezonkers half the time from withdrawal effects and didn't even know it. My sister and I were at the point of strangling our other sister until she went through several years of very difficult work to withdraw from the very small dose of Xanax she was taking each night.

It is seriously worrisome how really messed up these drugs can make people, and yet they are advertised on TV and prescribed (and upped and upped) like they are candy.

And the weight. I look around at all these obese people (I am one of them), and I am reminded of what several doctors have said to me: "As long as you are taking X drug, you aren't going to be able to lose any weight." When the author of "The Lost Language of Plants" mentioned that many drugs are designed to work only in the presence of fat, and that they concentrate in fatty tissues all up the food chain, I couldn't help wondering what's going on with the human species (not to mention every other living thing) that we are growing larger and larger. It can't be just exercise plus calories or levels of sugars and fats; I know, I've counted them all religiously.

I have to ask: Are our bodies adaptively packing on weight to allow ourselves to better handle and store the huge levels of bioactive chemicals we've doused our whole planet with? Could it be that gaining weight, like forming granulomas, is a mechanism the body uses to isolate and render as harmless as possible a dangerous foreign agent (all these chemicals and drugs that are being dumped into our environment by the billions of pounds)? Is anyone thinking about this, and are they looking into the possibility? Dying of "fat-related diseases" may be the lesser of the evils.

It scares the begeezus out of me to think about all this. But get this book. It may have just the solutions we need--if it's not too late. I just hope, if this planet has to choose between us and the plants, that the plants win out. Read this book and you'll understand why I say that.

Excellent and thoughtful reading!

Communicative approach to Genuine Kung Fu

Review Date: 2008-10-09
I have read a lot about Sifu Wong, and I have read a lot of what he has written. There are many things that are said about him frequently that are accurate: he is open and consistent about his teaching, realistic in his criticism, honest to the point where it seems audacious, and he takes very good care of his students. He is also obliged to be a combatant in the often banal blogging forum on "what real Kung Fu is". I do not envy him. But this brings me to what is perhaps his most significant contribution to Kung Fu for Westerners especially, that is to say his being a link between eastern and western understandings of Kung Fu and Chi Kung. There are already few real masters but even fewer who have his communicative ability or academic background. He is Asian with a western compatible identity! In this book and others he is able to clearly describe to Westerners his philosophy and approach to genuine Kung Fu and adapt it in such a way that it can be realistically practiced by today's western practitioners without comprimising the most important aspects of the discipline. So we can take the benefits from our Chi Kung training, stop feeling guilty about not being Shaolin monks, and avoid wasting time with New Age or dance approaches to Chi Kung and its related arts (if that's what we want to avoid...). I am what Sifu Wong would call a "competent Tai Chi instructor". I am no master, but I have a Chinese master and I teach as one of his disciples. It is wonderful to come across someone on the open market who is so similar to my own Sifu. It is also surprising. Best of wishes to you all.

The idea of learning Chi Kung came to me as a result of many synchronistic events. Not being able to find a teacher, I chose "The Art of Chi Kung" because of the word "art". Not usually a patient person, I find myself moving slowly and purposefully through this book. I am on Chapter Seven and quite content to practice the three novice movements that are clearly explained up to this point. I appreciate the background information, diagrams, and encouragement Wong Kiew Kit provides. I look forward to reading, learning and growing in the art of chi kung as outlined in this valuable book.

Babbers my chow dog accidently pushed me down on my cement driveway. I hit my face hard causing extreme pain making my nose and eyes to swell. Then suddenly I noticed that my bleeding cute knee hurt and my back. I then grabbed my Uri Geller crystal and forced myself up thinking magicial positive thoughts like: "It doest't Hurt" over and over. Mind Medicine taught me how to harness my own healing powers using imagination, contemplation, meditation, affirmations for my body to fight pain. Remember when meditating it will help reduce stress harmones and help your body build T-cells. Read this wonderful book and live longer.

There has been much research into the correlation between positive thinking and the effects this can have on our physical bodies. Uri Geller has been an advocate for the powers of positive thinking, and whatever you may think of his work, this particular book draws on proven conventional medical facts which Uri Geller has put into an easy-to-understand format with plenty of exercise which the reader can put into practice. I defy any reader to practice some of the exercises within this book and not feel a positive effect either mentally or physically. This certainly is a reference book which you will want to refer to time and time again.

A beautiful invitation to harness the power of the mind

Review Date: 2001-01-30
Author and world-famous psychic and spoon-bender Uri Geller has written a visually stunning and thought-provoking book about how to heal ourselves with the power of our minds. MIND MEDICINE begins without assuming that the reader already has prior knowledge of this subject. Almost every page of this book is graced with beautiful pictures, interesting charts, and fascinating quotations that are relevant to the topic being discussed. Luscious illustrations supplement the elegant simplicity of this wonderfully informative text in such a way that the reader's mind is fully engaged while reading.

The premise of Mind Medicine is that we can and do affect our health with our lifestyles and attitudes... which we can change. Geller advocates judicious use of modern medicine in conjunction with the healing powers of our minds, yet points out that most of us do not fully harness our own healing abilities. We are healthiest when we feel loved and happy -- and this joyous, light energy attracts more good things and people to us. Geller invites us to contemplate what makes us happy, and how free we are to change.

This book is written so simply and clearly that I envision it being a text book for children or adults who wish to learn how to discover what Uri Geller calls MindPower... the higher powers that allow him to bend spoons, locate hidden things, and affect things from a distance. Geller makes his irresistible invitation to us crystal-clear in the introduction to his book, "The mind of every one of us possesses an unimaginable gift and you are about to learn how to use it. Open it now." You'll be glad you did!

After ordering three of Uri Gellers Books from Amazon , I awaited delivery with great anticipation and was I thrilled when they came. The Mind Medicine book is FAB! It is a well written and well laid out book with stunning photo's and chapters that make you really think '' I CAN heal myself!''. Written clearly without any 'Psycho-babble' it is a great thought envoker.

Delivered along with Uri's 'Little book of Mind-Power' I am looking forward to focusing my energies inwards rather than outwards and also I shall enjoy reading my third book - Jonathan Margolis' boigraphy 'Uri Geller - Magician or Mystic '.. I can't wait to see what the future will bring !

Uri Geller's Mind Medicine is truly one of the most important purchases of my adult life. Uri is a clearly a gifted and blessed man who has an almost shocking and genuine care for humanity. I found this book to be a most positive influence on my own daily life and my interactions with othe people. One of the most profound and powerful experiences I have know is a particular pasrt of the book where Uri invites you to pray along with him for individuals who you have hurt or been hurt by. Also, I was taken back by Uri's visual guides in relations to forming positive thoughts around you, those you love and those who again, you have injured or been injured by. These excercises are real and one can literally feel the physical difference in the body. I would recommend this book by Uri to all who wish to improve thier own lives and the people they touch every day of thier lives. I think that covers virtually every one of us walking this earth.

This book is great- between the detailed illustrations, the extensive lists of muscle functions and the breakdown of why the muscle does what it does, it really helped me to learn. The only think I didn't love is the order the muscles are listed in, in my brain they would have been logically grouped together a bit differently, especially when it comes to trunk muscles.

It is nice to find a book dedicated to the muscular system. Although the graphics are simple (not photographic), the information and the lay out are great for learning and understanding of the muscles. The best pages in this book are those that lay out the muscular attachments of a region of the body.

Highly recommended for anyone that works in any field where the muscles are the focus!

This book is comprehensive in nature, scrupulous in detail, and the product of an obvious passion for the wealth of information to be found in our musculoskeletal system. As a massage therapist and perpetual student of the human body, I am glad to add this book to my library. It is well organized which makes it easy to reference whether I know the muscle, the bony landmark, or the general anatomical area of the body. Having so much information about an individual muscle in one book makes it easy to enhance or refresh my existing knowledge. I have opened the book just to refresh my knowledge of what an individual muscle looks like and found the illustrations clear. I have used the cross reference to find other muscles that might be adding to an existing muscular problem in a client. I have refreshed my awareness of an individual muscle by using the easy to follow palpation information. And I have added to my knowledge of individual muscle actions when helping a client isolate a muscle's tightness. Every time I have opened the book I have not been overwhelmed by what I do not know but rather come away feeling smarter.

This book, written by a Physical Therapist, explains and shows the muscles involved in the rotator cuff more clearly than any other anatomy book I've picked up on the subject. He explains what muscles you are strengthening for each exercise. Stretching, very much like yoga stretching, is also included. If I could talk to the author, I would ask him to look up Supported Headstand as a very effective treatment for RCS, too. This is thoroughly explained in volume 16 of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy in a research article entitled Headstand for Rotator Cuff Tear: Shirshasana or Surgery.

After thirty days, though, I am skeptical no longer! I am now almost pain-free. A lot cheaper than surgery! I mean, why not try it? If you wait and have to have surgery, you'll wind up doing the exercises anyway in rehab afterwards!!! Highly recommended.

I still use the relaxation tapes even tho my own cancer surgery was 5 years ago.
I used both these tapes and Bellaruth Naparstek's during chemotherapy! It helped immensely! I find these tapes soothing and a very positive way to bring calm back into your life. I have shared these tapes and books with several people over the past five years.

This book is an accessible, sincere and inspired guide for anyone who is curious about how to recover the human's innate ability to be in communication with the non-human world - which apparently just awaits our intention to do so. Eliot Cowan shares his own fascinating journey of discovery in a way that also offers to the reader ideas for how to do the same. His message is not, "look at me, I have special abilities," but "look into yourself and see what is there just waiting to be revived." The disastrous psychological, ecological and spiritual situation humans find themselves in as a result of having stopped engaging in "the great conversation" with nature, as author Thomas Berry puts it, can begin to heal if we try hard, now, to apply ourselves to the wisdom available in such books as Plant Spirit Medicine. We have a responsibility to read and utilize such information as Eliot Cowan makes available here. --Tayria Ward, Ph.D.

I picked up this book as a supplement to my work, and I did not expect that it would be so good. I would recommend this book to ANY person interested in this subject- whether they are totally new to it, or have been doing it for decades.
Cowan clearly and eloquently provides his take on this subject, and does a very good job explaining the basics. But he writes with a gentle tone, and makes plant spirit medicine something that everyone can do. This book isn't trying to sell anything or promote a workshop or healing modality. This really does provide some genuine insights on how to communicate with plants and use them for healing.
Eliot Cowan is right on with this book. You won't be disappointed.

This book is very helpful to cross-reference with school manuals on trigger points. And the way that it demonstrates where the pain would be felt and how to alleviate it is very easy to follow. I would recommend this book.

We briefly studied myofacial and trigger point therapy in massage therapy school, and this was a great accompanyment to that portion of our curriculum. I will be keeping this book when I begin my practise.

Great book, great value

This book has been very helpful to me. I'm in massage school now. It's easy to use, easy to reference and is a great value for the price.

This book is a wealth of information on pain referral patterns for any particular muscle, so in that regard I find it very valuable. However it does not give exact information on how to massage trigger points but focuses almost exclusively on how to stretch to relieve targetted muscular pain as well as strengthening exercises but nothing on how to massage these particular trigger points to help break up the spasm. The pictures are grouped regionally so as to find the affected muscle quickly but since the title said Trigger Point Therapy for Myofascial Pain: The Practice of Informed Touch I kinda expected more of the informed touch aspect.

Although this is a lot different from what a typical "scientific mind" is ready to adhere to, Christel Nani convincingly tells her story.

This book is a WOW! I picked it up because I love reading about medicine, but I quickly found out this book goes way beyond that! It is a fascinating read about medicine, but in a different way! It's a really great introduction to the intriguing world of energy medicine and the mind-body connection. It is Christel's own story about growing into her amazing gift as a medical intuitive and has alot of great medical stories, but it has alot of information for the reader to take away and apply to their own life - positive changes in your beliefs will affect your health and your life in a positive way.

You will love this book if you are open to alternative therapies and realize that there is a whole other side to health, more than just traditional medicine. It is an excellent read - really accessible, and I have recommended it to so many people!

When I first started reading this book I was amazed at the many similarities with my life's path.
Christel Nani relates her journey in a way that resonated with mine. Her book is easy to understand.
She lays the foundation for a simply devine way to tap into our past so that we can take a good look at what is
keeping us from following not just our talents but our deserving bliss. It all makes sense that if we are so uneasy
in doing and being what we do and who we have become that we can create our dis-ease. Having seen her in person confirmed how talented she is in "knowing" what ails us. She is all-inspiring.
Christal Nani is a true healer.

Very good book.

I too work in the medical profession in hospitals & learned about this book from one of my fellow coworkers. This book was a very good book & I really enjoyed Christel's case studies. I gave it 4.5 stars as I was hoping for more information on how to make changes in my life. This book is more a story of Christel's personal journey on becoming a medical intuitive.

After reading this book I wanted to read more of Christel Nani's book, so I got Guidance 24/7. That book focus' on how you can make changes in your life. I would highly recommend that you read Diary of a Medical Intuitive first, then read Guidance 24/7 on how to change your life. I can't wait to read Christel's newest book now.

I have read several of Caroline Myss' books & listened to her CD's. But Christel with her medical background has a very simple way of explaining things.

It's amazing that I found this book just at a time in my life where I was really questioning my connection to God. When I found this book it was so interesting and I could relate to so much of it that I couldn't put it down and I finished it in less than a weekend. Before I read this, my spiritual life seemed to suffer because I often questioned if God really loves me and cares about me. I felt very lonely, alone, and unheard. Christel explains why people feel this way and that there are ways we can treat this sort of "spiritual depression." Believe me, I have read a LOT of books by psychics, empaths, spiritual healing, Reiki, etc. A lot of stuff out there is recycled from previous authors. However, Christel's book is unique, no-nonsense, and to the point while still being very compassionate. I KNOW this is a God-send. This book has helped to give me hope and left me wanting to learn more about her healing techniques that I can practice on myself! In fact, talk about synchronicity: just as I finished reading her book, I found out she is doing a workshop next weekend less than an hour away from my home in California and this is a rare event! This is so meant to be and I am lucky to have found Christel's work.
