On Gestural Communication
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-29
This book provides a great review of the work accomplished on gestural communication over the past 20 years. Not all labs that have produced literature on this topic were inlcuded in the book, but the authors nonetheless tackle the challenge of discussing the subject and do it well. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in researching gesstural communication in non-human primates and other animals.

An Excellent Resource.

Review Date: 2000-03-22
I found this informative, well organized and cogently written. A Table of Citations documents all sources cited or quoted, and each chapter ends with a summary of key points covered which I found helpful. The authors do a good job of presenting the information in a balanced and objective manner. A good resource for anyone wanting to better understand the legal issues and academic landscape surrounding the provision of accommodations to students with LD or ADHD.

A great resource for Speech Language Pathologists
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-30
This book is a great resource for speech language pathologists who serve students with Down Syndrome. As a professional new to the field of speech language pathology, I found myself serving two students with Down Syndrome in the elementary school setting and making decisions about their communication. Jon Miller's book explains old theories about Down Syndrome, and introduces new research findings in an easy-to-read format. It covers speech intelligibility and language comprehension and production patterns.

If you are a speech language pathologist who does not know a lot about Down Syndrome, this is the book to help you learn about it and how you can approach speech therapy with this population. It has greatly influenced my decisions regarding the overall communication abilities and potential in my students.

This book was written for teachers of interpreters. While this is a great idea, I think the interpreters themselves should read this book. The field of interpreting is expanding and we need to keep up to date on the latest information. I cant say enough about this book!
