Light ShowReview Date: 2008-11-12
It's hot and sticky, steaming and burning, deep and dark, troubled and comforting, rich and bitter, light and dirty, staining to the mind and scalding to the senses. You're reaching for the edge of the cup (the pages) every second that passes, only to fumble back into the darkness so comforting and mind-numbing. This book will wrap you in it's liquid so drenching and overwhelming, you will beg for more.
One of the best books of prose you will ever read.Review Date: 2008-11-12

Symptoms include: sorrow, empathy, joy, and peaceReview Date: 2008-11-12
"Come Therapy" is easily relateable and most of the stories are short, concise and void of any babble.
Eric rants about many things including apathy, the truth about being on the road, our need for true and sincere feelings and relationships, meeting the "devil" and how their are "monsters everywhere."
He helps you see the beauty in the little things in life.
You can feel every word and after reading this you will definitely not feel lethargic, unconscious and unable to feel as if you were in a coma. You will be alert, appreciative, and ready to arise to the occasion that is life.
Simply put "Coma Therapy" is a journal of thoughts and stories about life and all its' splendor and sadness but it never dwells on the sadness. Come Therapy appreciates the sad, happy, dirty, seedy, and beauty that is our life.
5 out of 5 and everyone should buy this and then check out his new book coming out very soon.

Impossible to put down!Review Date: 2005-07-08
The book had several wonderful themes. It illustrated how God always works for the good of those who love Him. Good can come out of even the worst situations. Also, the ending of the book is an excellent example of the impact being loving and compassionate could have on others, even when it's undeserved.
If you're looking for a suspenseful, well-written, page-turner with an excellent message, this book is perfect!

Secrets and LayersReview Date: 2005-04-28
Once again, we are pulled into the psychotic world of Rena, a woman living with guilts and secrets. She begins seeing mysterious visions, and unwinds before our eyes. Whitlow portrays her with perfection. Along the way, Alex, her lawyer, begins to look for ways to disengage herself from this nightmarish client, while also looking for ways to build a deeper relationship with Ted Morgan, a Christian music minister. Their relationship goes through ups and downs, but they are drawn closer as the troubles of Rena's past loom larger.
The ending provides some satisfying emotional moments, even if a few of the mystery aspects are wrapped up a bit quickly. Although the book didn't hold the same sway over me as the first in the Santee Series, it's definitely a must for Whitlow fans.

Louis Proof is a teenager in East Orange, New Jersey. When the book opens, Louis one of the most popular students in his class. He is helpful, kind, and smart. He accepts an invitation to go to a wonderful amusement park where all of your wildest dreams come true. After things go a little wrong there, Louis leaves and mysteriously collapses and falls into a coma.
When Louis awakens, it is three months later and everything is different. Many adults are being replaced with replicas of themselves -- and they are a child's dream. They let their kids do anything they want. Slowly, Louis realizes that he is the earth's only chance. Earth is being taken over by Galonious, a very funny but evil person. He takes away a person's inhibitions and promises freedom. Some people steal and vandalize while others commit murder.
I spent some time speaking with my fifth-graders about this concept and I believe that they found it as scary as I did. The story doesn't come to a conclusion, as there are supposed to be sequels. The hero is also African-American, which is a first, and there are many references to popular culture which makes the story fun.
Enjoy reading THE MARVELOUS EFFECT!

Well worth the time - check it outReview Date: 2002-10-08
excellent. As usual it is full of interest and character.
The difference is there are historical flashbacks and that
can make it more difficult to read flipping between now
and "then". However, I'd suggest the new reader start
with her earlier books first before reading this book.
Then you will appreciate this book more.

When they land in Florida, Tory's day gets worse. A young woman they met on the plane is killed by a speeding car. With Tory's reputation from her troubled youth, she is an immediate suspect. Although cop-Alvarez is able to turn off the pressure this time, he decides to use his spare time investigating the killing.
The evidence (and author Aileen Schumacher's story) keeps returning to the tragic events of 1923 when a white lynch mob descended on the black town of Rosewood, burning it to the ground. Still, what possible connection could there be between an ancient racial injustice and contemporary murder?
Schumacher does an excellent job balancing between the present and the past, drawing parallels, and letting the suspense of the horrors of 1923 add to the sense of danger in the present. ROSEWOOD'S ASHES is a fine mystery with enough twists and turns and red herrings to keep any reader interested. Where it excells, though, is in its descriptions of people and their relationships. Tory's relationship with her father and with Alvarez. Lissy's relationship with 'The Man,' and Alvarez's relationships with just about everyone.
I recommend this book highly.

The Power of Conscious and Unconscious CharacterReview Date: 2000-02-25
I was profoundly struck at the very beginning of the book by the occurrence of and Philippe's recollection of dreams during his two-month coma. Somehow his brain kept functioning during that period, and it even had the wherewithal to begin work on the huge unexpected task of starting a new life. That experience provides us all with a tremendous insight into the powerful workings of the unconscious mind. I simply had no idea that such processes occurred. Carl Jung would have had a scientific field day with that data. And present day psychologists should learn important lessons from it.
Thanks, Philippe and Stephane Vigand.
