Managing a chiropractic clinic requires solid business skills. This book helps you develop such skills quickly and effortlessly. Why waste time and money on experimenting yourself when you can instantly leverage 20 years business management and another 20 years of active chiropractic practice?

The book covers clearly and succinctly an ambitious range of topics, including cash flow management, marketing, essential clinic function, personnel management, etc. Dr. Delman did a remarkable job of exploring each topic with sufficient detail and meaningful examples.

It is an indispensable reference tool that belongs to every chiropractor's library.

This book is powerful... On the contrary of many other books or seminars, it doesn't take 1 good idea and make a huge business around it, every chapter is concise, to the point, with a great generousity in the topics covered and the advice given.
Also, I recommend the website www.businessofchiropractic.com for its great additional content, also available at a reasonable price.
So whether you've been a practice for a while or you're just starting out, please take practice & management seminars, hire a coaching company and read other books, we never have too much info, but this book is a must have... more than that it's a must READ!

This is the book, more than any other, that helped me set up my practice. It contains practical information about how to get new customers after opening the doors, not to mention how to advertise without being crass. If I'd bought it earlier, I would have been even more successful. Even though it says "after startup," I think reading it before startup is good.

I experienced Dr. Delman's knowledge and skill in chiropractic and practice management as a patient many years before following in his footsteps. When I saw that he had written a guide book for the rest of us, I was thrilled. I own both the first and second editions. Dr. Delman explains the "how-to's" of a successful practice in a concise, understandable and enjoyable format. This is a must for any DC at any stage!

I often shake my head in disbelief to think that many of my fellow chiropractors will shell out thousands of dollars in practice management seminars when a book such as this exists for a fraction of the cost, and in truth, is much better.

Ivan Delman has managed to take important universal truths of business success and apply it to chiropractic in a simple but powerful way. Passion, wisdom, humor, and compassion are the hallmarks of his writing style that walks you through essential steps in creating the practice of your dreams.

Just as in chiropractic we tell our patients to please try chiropractic first before doing expensive, needless surgery, I suggest that D.C.'s read this gem of a book first before attending an expensive seminar.

You won't be sorry.

This book, written by a Physical Therapist, explains and shows the muscles involved in the rotator cuff more clearly than any other anatomy book I've picked up on the subject. He explains what muscles you are strengthening for each exercise. Stretching, very much like yoga stretching, is also included. If I could talk to the author, I would ask him to look up Supported Headstand as a very effective treatment for RCS, too. This is thoroughly explained in volume 16 of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy in a research article entitled Headstand for Rotator Cuff Tear: Shirshasana or Surgery.

So easy to understand! I know have a good knowledge of how the shoulder works. The exercises are very helpful. Got me closer of achieving zero pain. Hardly have pain anymore, mostly tight or a little uncomfortable but that's better than chronic pain ay!! It only takes around 3-4 hours to read. DO IT IF YOU KAIN'T TAKES NO MORES!!

What a terrific book !

I was afraid I would never be able to lift weights again. Both of my shoulders were in pain, even causing me to have to lie on my back to sleep. I read this book carefully, and have followed the exercise exactly as he directs, and I have zero pain in my shoulders now ! Zero ! And I'm back to lifting weights !
I can't tell you how impressed I am with the research that went into Mr. Johnson's work. He only goes by scientific evidence based upon peer-reviewed, randomized controlled trials. This stuff really works!
By the way, I had the same experience with my back problems after reading "Treat Your Own Back" by Dr. McKenzie
Thank you Mr. Johnson!

I hurt my rotator cuffs doing some bag work. I waited a long time (I'm a guy) to go into an ortho. He gave me the advice to work on my posture, lose weight and a photocopy of some exercises to do. Told me that how I injured myself didn't matter, fixing it was what counted. Well, posture and losing weight solved that problem.

Had a completely different feeling problem. Went back after eight months of worsening pain. Same diagnosis, they told me it was "referred pain" which was why it felt completely different. Same exercises. You can find them all over the internet.

Didn't do much for me. I slowly got more or less better on my own. But, I had nagging pain every morning, the exercises and stretches did nothing for me.

Rather than go back, I decided to try this book first, based on recommendations from a friend I followed up.

First, the explanations aside, the core of the book is short. You are only going to do about four exercises and four stretches at any one time. There are routines for severe to very mild problems (beginning to advanced).

Second, the explanations made sense and I've been able to apply them to a few other areas.

But, it has been less than a month and I'm waking up pain free from time to time, the first time in a very long time.

Would I pay this much for a paperback? Not usually, but it was a lot better than blowing half a day off from work seeing the ortho sports med guy again. Would I buy a book when the internet is swimming with essays, charts, etc.?

Well, but for the fact it works and the free stuff didn't, no. But the free stuff doesn't quite put it all together the way this does and it didn't quite do the trick.

If you've got pain, if your doctor's routines haven't really done much for you, if the internet hasn't led you anywhere new, you might really want to try this book. It has details on how to do things, number of repetitions, how long to hold the stretches, etc.

Simple? Yes. Five to ten minutes a day simple, but just the right five to ten minutes a day have made all the difference for me.

My answer to back pain used to be 3 extra strength advil and a few days lying down...until I read this book! It's really great and easy to understand. Props to Dr. Sinett for writing such a great and helpful book. I recommend it to everyone I know (well, everyone whose back hurts...which is actually just about everyone I know!)

If you are unable to seek the professional medical care that Dr.Todd Sinett and associates at Midtown Chiropractic Health and Wellness provide there is still reason to celebrate - this book.

Full disclosure - I have been a patient of Dr. T. Sinett for over four years and have benefited tremendously from his three prong approach to uncovering the source of back pain.

Prior to being treated by Dr. Sinett's methods, I suffered daily for over 5 years with chronic, yet not diagnosable, back pain. In addition to seeing medical doctors, physical therapists, and massage therapist - I read EVERY book on back pain on the market. None are as clear and concise as Dr. Sinett's slim volume, The Truth About Back Pain. My gratitude for this book is over whelming because I know it will help others wake-up to the true causes of their chronic pain.

If you are beating yourself up for having mysterious back pain (or shoulder pain or stomach pain etc.) that keeps you from living the life you know you should be living - this book will begin to reveal to you that the pain is not just in your head. It is real; however, it might not be bending over to pick up the car keys that started it. It might be poor diet or unrecognized emotional stress.

Share this book with your chiropractor or current medical profession and see if you can help heal your pain without costly operations or Western pain killers.

And, if you do live in NYC - read the book then seek treatment at Dr. Sinett's practice. You don't have to live with back pain. You deserve to be happy and pain free.

Transformational!!

I'm not going to say this book is the end all be all for back pain...but, it's pretty darn close!! I've dealt with lower back issues for years, and after reading Dr. Sinett's book and following his simple ideas and guidelines, I haven't experienced pain in months. His book is incredibly straight forward and not filled with any "mumbo jumbo"...I recommend anyone with a back issue to buy and read this book!!!

So many doctors and practicioners claim to have the answers to this age old question. Well, it is refreshing to finally have a one-stop resource that actually lives up to what it claims. Dr. Sheldon and Todd Sinett put in a clear and conscise format not only what causes back pain, but they provide so many practical examples on how to help aleviate it. I have already begun to incorporate what I have read, including some easy to implement changes to my diet that require almost no sacrifice. Also, by having a series of pages with step-by-step exercises and practical tips throughout the book, I expect to refer back to this book for years to come.

I found this book to be pretty good review for Part III. It helped with summarizing all the stuff I learned in chiropractic school. It gave good reviews of the clinical impression or diagnosis, physical examination, neuro examination, etc. I also used the following which was just awesome for showing me the type of questions to be prepared for on the Part III and Part IV chiropractic Boards:
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Volume 1) and (Volume 2) by Patrick Leonardi.
In fact, Dr. Patrick Leonardi's and Dr. Jeannette Gibson's study guides helped me to pass the boards. I advise getting these four study guides. It's better than taking these boards over again.

A great book, but not for Part IV

I agree that this book is a great asset, and would recommend it to anyone in Chiropractic school, having previously stipulated that it will not prepare you for part IV. The book does indeed review Part III is great detail, but the part four review - with the exception some medical stuff, abdominal exam, thorax, etc. and some others, does not fully prepare you for Part IV. I found the last section on technique extremely lacking, there were no pictures, and very little on the method with which National Boards test you on (vertebral malposition listings [national listings]) since most of us were taught Gonstead (at least at Life West).

In conclusion, I recommend the Irene Gold review seminars. They may help more than this book will. It is a great book, but let's be real here, with the expense of Part IV National Boards ($850), it is cheaper not to buy this book and go to a review and get a passing grade, than to save in the beginning and fail the exam. That's the opinion of someone who used this book and studied in detail and failed the first time around.

Buy it, study it, and then take some time to relax while the rest of your class tries to learn that which you've mastered. This text allows you to optimize your time studying. No more wasted hours organizing; it is already done for you. Great book. Worth much more than the price tag. I can't endorse it enough. I gave it to my son, a chiropractor for Christmas, and it proves as useful in practice as it is in school. Much thanks to the authors for writing this book. Well done.

At first I thought this was too much information, then I realized it was everything I needed to know for my clinical studies as well as my academic studies. It is hard to understand how this book was written by doctors. I think professional editors would have a hard time negotiating this level of complexity. You both made it look simple and easy to follow. The amount of organization it contains is awesome. I am finishing up school now, and I only have one complaint about this text. It should've been handed out to the students on the first day of class with a schedule of which sections to learn for each year of study. It should be a required text for everyone. My life, my family, and my peers all would have benefitted from the decreased stress associated with a properly organized course plan. I probable could have saved thousands on coffee and actually slept instead of cramming this information for hours on end. This is an entire education between two covers. Thank you, thank you, thank you. My younger brother starts school in September and he is studying this book already! His life will be so much simpler because of it. I not only studied this material for boards, but due to the ease of which it is laid out I actually had time to learn it. You should write a business text next!

Dr. Brose's "Guide to EKG Interpretation" is a resource that all physicians in training should seriously consider acquiring. It is an extremely thorough book, and its size is deceptive. You wouldn't think a small pocket-size book could pack this much information! As an illustration, I had a question on my Part II board exam about a "J wave", something I had never heard of, even after my EKG rotation and delivering a few EKG lectures. As it turns out, Dr. Brose's book addresses the J wave, while many other resources make no mention of it. Also, the material is presented in a way that is clear and very easy to follow. Full of cross-references, you can quickly gain a solid understanding of virtually any issue you'll encounter when interpreting an EKG. I believe that medical students, interns, residents, and attending physicians alike will benefit from owning this book. Certainly, it is something that medical students and interns should have in their pockets (it is not cumbersome...it's a perfect size).

This book has good illustrations and is written in some color. It breaks-down all of the common disrhythmias and explains much of what you need to know. Also illustrates the areas of the heart that is effected with certain types of disrhythmias. One of the better books I have found at this point. I think they should print a bigger textbook size of this book, it would be even more useful.

I graduated chiropractic school this year. I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology. The radiographs are excellent in this book. Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail. Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition. I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards. However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following:
National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi
National Board of Chiropractic Part IV Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (Volume 1) and (Volume 2)
The questions in these last 4 study guides are right on with the kind of questions encountered on the National Boards. These 5 books contributed greatly to helping my study group and I pass the boards. For example the Part IV Study Guide had great sections on chiropractic technique, clinical impression and x-ray diagnosis. It presented the questions just like on the exam. These 5 books are must buys.

I have had trouble trying to understand why my back hurt and why other problems were related to this. After reading Introduction to Chiropractic I truly understand why my spine is so important and why chiropractic care can provide me with significant help for my condition. My doctors have tried to explain things to me but they are either too busy or too technical, this book is easy to read and very understandable. It has completely changed my view of how to approach my health. I now understand much better the reason why I may get sick and what to do. There are so many helpful hints in the book. I also recommend it to all health care providers. As one who suffers from osteoarthritis, I find the suggested exercises extremely helpful. Of the many things we seek in life, good health is probably at the top of most individual's lists. And when we seek health care guidance and advice, we want to be certain that that advise is from an expert source and someone we can count on for delivering sound recommendations.

Dr. Louis Sportelli has captured the essence of a leading non-invasive, non-drug health profession, reducing a complicated and oft misunderstood care paradigm to a simple to understand writing on the benefits of chiropractic care. As we explore new directions in health care, especially us baby-boomers, we are all looking for a solution to our aches and pains, effective diet, nutrition and excerise regimens and a true understanding of the reasons for our changing physiologic function. Reading Introduction to Chiropractic answers these and so many more questions about our bodies and outlines in simple to read text the functions that attribute to good health.

While we are told to rest, take aspirin or other drugs for many of the most incapacitating and debilitating problems associated with the back, neck and extremity pain, Introduction to Chiropractic takes the reader to a new dimension of understanding in explaining why natural health care optimizes the bodies own inner intelligence mechanisms. There's more practical and useful information in this book's 50 easy reading pages about common sense health care than I've read anywhere.

If you've read or heard contrary information about the benefits or usefulness of chiropractic care, this book should put any of those concerns to rest. Thank you, Dr. Sportelli, for taking the time to write this wonderful book explaining the many benefits of chiropractic, a safe, effective and necessary component to obtaining maximum good health!

This is the best chiropractic book I've ever encountered. This would be an essential resource for anyone considering going to a chiropractor or who has questions about what a chiropractor can do for them.

The language is very easy to understand and is well referenced with links to many other sources of information on-line about back care and chiropractic.

I gave my copy to a chiropractic cynic. He's got his first appointment next week.

It's the best atlas I've ever seen, it has clear images (sometimes, I think I'm seeing a photo, not a drawing), its "boxes" with information about muscles, etc. are very well done. And its "naming" of the organs, bones, etc. it's not as confusing as Netter's. I own Sobotta and Netter and, Sobotta, for me, simply defeats Netter in every single detail. A must have if you're a medical student.

I am prenursing student and I love this book. The pictures are great, explanations are wonderful. This is a bible in anatomy. I have a chance to see the other anatomy books in my class but this is the best. You donot need to work on the actual bone, the book is wonderful.

With this CD-Rom you can easily learn the most important concepts of human anatomy without having to read much, it's all a visual process. Then you test yourself on the same picture. It takes no time at all to learn anatomy with Sobotta's. It's a "must have" for every "student" of any age.

A must-have for medicine students

Awesome!! I highly recommend Sobotta (Book/CD-ROM) whether used alone or as a supplement to Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy. I am a physician assistant graduate student at Marquette University and I find the illustrations & references to be very useful when studying for my gross anatomy lecture & lab. Sobotta provides modern imaging diagnostics, endoscopic images, color photographs of surgical views, etc. not found in Netter's. The CD-ROM has all the plates found in the book, but gives you the option to quiz yourself which is very useful. It also allows you to display/hide markers on illustrations, also useful for study purposes. Indexs, tables etc are cross-referenced. If you are looking for a tool to help you maximize your anatomy study/review & you have easy access to a computer/laptop with a CD-ROM, get the Sobotta CD-ROM. You'll find it a great resource!!!

Simply the best text I've yet encountered on spinal anatomy. Thorough yet concise, and accurate. Drs. Cramer & Darby are to be congratulated on a superb product. I own and use the 1st (1995) edition of this text. Prior to its release, I used a combination of over six different anatomy texts and integrated their various levels of information into professional notes on spinal anatomy. I have found this text to equal or exceed those notes in all respects. Moreover, the information provided by Drs. Cramer & Darby has proven consistently reliable, unlike many other texts. I have not yet seen the 2nd edition of this text, but expect that it would continue the quality of the 1st while containing further integration of contemporary spinal research within its pages.

This is a great book.

Basic and Clinical Anatomy of the Spine, Spinal Cord and ANS will collect no dust on your shelf. Whether you are faculty, a new student, or a practicing physician, this text is an excellent source of accurate, up-to-date information that is presented in an easy to use, quick reference, format. The exquisite detail of the numerous tables is all-inclusive and very helpful (i.e. chapter four [muscles that influence the spine] contains a 7 page layout of the name, location, origin, insertion, action, and innervation of every muscle that affects the spine). The text also contains excellent photographs and artistic renderings of all the anatomy discussed within. If you can only afford a couple texts, make this one of your purchases.

Very good textbook for chiropractic and osteopathic students

This book is very complete and gives full descriptions of the anatomy of the spine. I would recommend this book for any chiropractic students taking a class in spinal anatomy, for any osteopathic student taking gross anatomy and any physical therapy students taking anatomy classes. However, I would also recommend the following which is also sold on amazon.com:
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi (ISBN: 0971999600)
This study guide will definitely give you an edge on tests and prepare first year chiropractic students to know the type of questions to be ready for. If you want to pass spinal anatomy without stress and get good grades, both books are a must buy. My study group and I used both books and we all passed spinal anatomy class with at least a B in our chiropractic school.

Basic and Clinical Anatomy of the Spine, Spinal Cord, and ANS is an excellent text for both students and clinicians that specialize in the spine. As a chiropractic student, I used the first edition for my spinal anatomy class and as a National Chiropractic Board Exam review and found it to be extremely helpful.

Now I am preparing to enter my private outpatient practice and decided to pick up the 2nd edition of this text to use as a reference. I was thoroughly impressed with the new edition. The new edition offers many advantages over any other book that I have seen in the anatomical description of the spine, and the clinical application of this knowledge. I was particularly impressed with the presentation of the latest research related to the spine, the brilliant new illustrations, high resolution CT and MR images, and the new material related to the ANS (and its role in pain), intervertebral disc degeneration, and the pediatric spine. Although it isn't new, I also appreciate the red-lined sections that mark the clinically relevant information (which I think will be very helpful in the next few years as a quick review in practice).

For those who already own the first edition, I would highly recommend updating to this edition simply based on the wealth of new information that science has revealed concerning the spine and nervous system. For those who haven't experienced this book, I would recommend it for its dual use as a basic science reference and as a clinical science review. I think this book holds tremendous value for both students and practitioners (DCs, DOs, MDs, PTs, etc) that work with the spine and nervous system.

Good book for medically-based chiropractors.

Written by DC's and PhD's at National College of Chiropractic. Red ruled sections give relevant clinical information, which is nice, and chapter 11 (pain of spinal origin)is very helpful, but it can sometimes read like stereo instructions.
