I read this one when I was about 13. I cried when I read it then and shared with all of my classmates. At 26 now, I can still read it again. I still own the battered copy of the book and know that it will bring me to tears if I read it again. If your teen is considering reading books from the Sweet Dreams series, this one is a must. A poignant, touching and sweet love story.

I read this book more than a decade ago. It belonged to my cousin and I would raid her bookshelf ever time I went to her house.

I've read several Sweet Dreams series book, but this is the only one whose title I remember. It's a tear-jerker, and even though at 9 years old I was too young to know about boyfriends and girlfriends and those types of relationships, I could still empathize with Mariah's pain.

I wish I had a copy of this book. It's very memorable.

This is a great book!!!

I am surprised by all of the reviews of this book by people who read it several years ago. I thought I was being silly by coming on amazon to find this book that I read when I was [...] (13 years ago), but now I see that I am not the only one that this book had an impact on. I highly recommend P.S. I love You to anyone.

This was one of the most treasured books I have ever read. As it was also the very first teenage romance I read (over twenty years ago), the ending of the book was a huge surprise. It is impossible for anyone reading a review to apppreciate how beautiful this book is, you simply HAVE to read it. This book is timeless. I also loved the sequal "Falling in Love Again."

I have read other SD books before coming across this one and after finishing it, I had to double check to make sure it is part of the SD series and triple check it when I realized this is the first book in the whole series.

*** SPOILER***
Because the hero dies. And no matter how many times I've read it knowing how the ending will turn out, I'm still mourning for Paul. Mariah and her family housesit a mansion in Palm Springs during the summer holidays. There she meets Paul who, unfortunately, has been diagnosed with cancer. The book reads like a teenager's journal who can write. Conklin really knows how to put the reader in the character's shoes with such descriptive language and little trivial details thrown here and there to make you feel like you're in the book. Mariah is a very likable character. Unlike many characters in the SD series, it makes no mention of her status in school and she comes across as very sensitive and insightful. I also like how Conklin doesn't describe Paul Strobe as your token hot hero and we are brought to attention to his skinny legs from the start. Mariah and Paul's story is unlike any of the SD series - very poignant, sensitive, bittersweet and reflective. Sadly, the sequel to this one, Falling In Love Again, could not compare.

Not for women only, this guides give "wannabe" writers clear encouraging steps to keep writing. It's a light read with that is both easy to comprehend, and easy to actually do. It's a book you'll want to keep around and refer back to.

A good mixture of the practical and the inspirational. Excellent exercises for you to do on your own.

The subtitle says that this is a Guide for Busy Women--true enough, but it works for men too, and
just as well.

Highly recommended.

I could very easily dub this book, the best, however that is to be determined in the eye of the beholder. I can say with much conviction, that it is the book I turn to the most often for advice, straight forward answers and direction as well as a nice glimpse at a reality check.

Any writer will tell you that you don't write a best seller overnight, and this book will tell you that too. Unlike many other writing books available the pages don't contain advice at how to leave your 9 to 5 job and write the world's best novel. Instead the book is filled with useful, real advice for determined writer's to utilize and honestly get their pens on fire.

There are dozens of exercises to get you thinking and writing, with originality and flair. The book is well written and is a very easy book to devour in a short period of time. Except that you will more than likely find yourself reaching for it again and again to participate in the exercises and get you thinking on a more creative level.

A must have book for any would-be writer's bookshelf.

I bought this book when it came out, read it, marked the heck out of it, and used its ideas a few times.

I plan to now read it again, and use it again, 3 years later.

The Power, Challenge, and Talent to Write, And Developing it, is important.

I like to write.

Always have, I guess, ever since I was in Elementary School ( early 70's ), then Junior High and High School ( mid/late 70's ), writng book reports, and then letters to the editor of the local paper.

For various reasons none of that ever translated into a career path.

I read somewhere that we are always afraid to start something that we want to make very good, true, and serious.

Rita Mae Brown once wrote: "Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts."

This book influenced the last 3 years of my blogging, on 2 blogs, and will help anyone who reads it.

This book will help you find the writer within, and find the time to write more as well.

Meg Powers is just a normal teenager living in Boston with her father, mother, and two younger brothers, Steven and Neal. All of this is turned upside down when Meg's mom, who is a Senator, runs for President. President of the United States, that is. And the worst part is that Senator Powers actually has a shot at winning.

As if being the daughter of the first female President wasn't enough, Meg has to deal with moving to a new house, going to a new school, finding new friends, and having to figure out how to deal with the whole Secret Service thing. With a few bumps along the road, Meg not only discovers more about herself, but she also learns things about her mom -- the President of the United States -- that not many people know about.

Ellen Emerson White writes an interesting story of a teenage girl living in the politics of D.C. What makes this book so compelling is that while readers may not be able to relate to the whole mother-running-for-President part, they can relate to a teenage girl dealing with a somewhat difficult mother, annoying brothers, and new surroundings.

With THE PRESIDENT'S DAUGHTER being the first in the series, the other books are sure to be just as pleasing and entertaining as the first.

I love these books. I bought the President's Daughter back in middle school and many years later decided to complete the collection. Like someone else said, it is my go to book. I can read it over and over and still find new things in it. It is actually also how I learned how the election worked!! The first is the best in the series, but anyone who reads this will not be disappointed by the quality of writing, depth of the characters and knowledge gained about a presidential family. Meg is a delight!

Most teens are embarrassed by the things their parents do. But in Meg Powers' case, she and her family are under constant national scrutiny, for her senator mother has just announced her candidacy for president.

Although dealing with the issues surrounding Katharine Powers' campaigning and frequent travels, the Powers family is still refreshingly normal. Meg and her younger brothers regularly compete with dinnertime witticisms, and she and her best friend Beth spend embarrassingly long hours dreaming about the day that handsome and popular Rick will ask one of them out.

Firmly entrenched within '80s pop culture (references to things like Tab and Joan Jett are sprinkled throughout the book rather liberally), this story is simultaneously set in a time that has yet to come -- making it something of an anachronism, but a fun and quirky one.

I first read the first two books when I was in high school...in the 80s. I enjoyed them then, and sorely regret loaning them to a younger cousin when I got to college and was ostensibly 'too old' for them. My local bookstore didn't carry "God Save the Queen," so I've never read that one.

I'm 36 now, and I've read one heckuva lot of books. But two of that stay with me are "The President's Daughter" and "White House Autumn." Like the very best in young adult fiction (Harry Potter, etc.), the themes are universal, the characterization is excellent, and the glimpse into another world is fascinating.

I bought the book for my grandchildren after having purchased "The Chicken That Could Swim" and loving it. The puzzles and illustrations in Puzzle Island are absolutely amazing! The whole family (mom, dad, grandparents, grandchildren (ages 4-9), aunt and uncle was involved in figuring out the names of the animals as well as looking for the animals in the pictures. After about 2 months, working on it at least once a week, we finished the book, solved all the puzzles and found all the animals. What is so amazing is that as you read the story you don't even realize all that is hidden on the pages. We loved it and can't wait to get another Paul Adshead book.

Everyone seems to have a problem finding the fourth animal in Lily's Pond. But I have found it! Unscrambling AGILNRST gives the bird STARLING. It is very difficult to find but once you see it, it is very clear. It is at the top right hand side of the page directly below the letter S and the missing P of the frame. It is one of the leaves of the tree. The head is directly below the missing P and the tail is below the S and below another leaf. You have to flip the page upside down to see it. Hopefully this helps you all sleep better tonight!

***minor spoilers ahead***
I would rate this book a 4.75 (of 5), the deduction coming from a few technical issues I have with the author's choice of paragraph breaks and a few instances of lame dialogue. Listening to the story on a cd would answer for the first point quite nicely. The second point is a matter of personal preference, and some people may actually like the whole "what" scene that thoroughly annoyed me. It reminded me of Abbott and Costello's "Who's on First" skit. One time around, its funny, but more than once struck a painful chord within me.

Aside from that though, the story flowed rather nicely. In a few instances the sequence of events was far too convenient to be anything but a children's fantasy story, but it still fit nicely enough to engage the reader. Split second rescues, daring battles, and nicely executed battle tactics still make for a lovely story.

Characterization seemed better than the previous three books, but I think that's only because the previous three books could set it up. If you just picked up this book and read, you'd get a neat little story, but you wouldn't have the emotional connection to the characters. Some series are fine out of order (i.e. Star Wars: X-Wing series), but this is definitely a series to read in the intended order.

As for the title change from Oakleaf Bearers (Australia) to Battle for Skandia (U.S.), I'd have to say the US title strikes closer to the heartbeat of the story. The Australian title is better seen in scope of the whole series, and probably would have made better sense on book 3...but as mentioned elsewhere, book 3 and 4 could have been one story arc.

Last thing before I quit babbling here, this author is very good at cliff hangers. The stories are highly, highly predictable, but well timed tidbits keep one engaged anyway...

Ths is a wonderful series for pre-teen and young adults. I also know a few adults who have read them, because it has a wonderuful, interesting story. This particular book offsets the idea that Scandia's people are the antagonists, because there is another force with intentions of taking over the land of Scandia and perhaps Aruelen.

It's another organization-planned 'get-together' with the clones. Only this time, ALL the clones are there, including all the surviving Amys and all the Andys. They're trapped on a perfect Island Paradise - the sand feels soft and warm, the water is crystal-clear and full of colorful fish, and the sun shines brilliantly all the time. Too bad the clones can't enjoy the experience; they're being held here against their will by 'The Organization!!' Their supervisors, a woman named Cindy and the Mr. Devon clones, force them to play a frightening game similar to 'Survivor.' But you better watch out when you're voted off.. it's pretty serious!!

I loved this book sooo much!! The only thing I didn't like about it was that whole celebrity-clone thing. I mean, c'mon. How would they know which baby would be a celebrity someday? Are they just mass-producing future celebs in cloning labs or something? 'Hmm, this baby looks like she could be a supermodel someday. Let's clone her!!' hehe. Anyway, I loved the rest of the book. It was great!!!

We ordered this item for our 6 year old daughter, and she loves it!! It is just like when we were kids, but you get to design your own drawings. It does seem to work better with colored pencils rather then markers. The first few dinks my daughter did with crayola brand markers (NOT WASHABLE) and the ink kept rubbing off even after baking. If you want to use markers, Sharpie brand seem to work the best (We use them to outline the drawing.) I only wish that this book came with a small selection of accessories (ie: key loops, jewelry hooks, and thread), like some of the other Klutz activity books do.

I remember doing shrinky dinks as a kid and decided to give them to all the children in our family who were gathering for the holidays. It was a huge hit! There were children ages 5-12 and this was something they all enjoyed. The 5 year old needed some help tracing the pictures, but was able to color them in with colored pencils and do some of the cutting out. I am really pleased with the book and the response that it received. It was a memorable holiday for all!

I bought this book/kit a few years ago, very excited to share with my daughters something that I played with as a kid. The book comes with about 8 sheets of special shrink plastic. You will need ordinary colored pencils and it would be great to have a Sharpie, preferably a fine point one, and a pair of small scissors, as well as an oven and cookie sheet. The book is full of small color images; the kids trace an image with a Sharpie or black colored pencil, color it in with colored pencils, cut it out carefully (parents might want to help ages 7 and under) and bake it. The plastic shrinks, which is great fun for the kids to watch through the oven door. The plastic curls up at first and you're SURE it won't work but it does! If you want a hole make sure you punch it with a hole punch BEFORE you bake; otherwise it's too late.

That's because I was given this book 64 years ago when I was six years old! (It was originally published in 1942.)I just looked it up on Amazon.com thinking I might find another used copy in better condition than mine and I find that Twig still lives on in the lives of a new generation of children!

The story is charming but it is the illustrations that make the story come alive. No credit is listed for an illustrator so perhaps the author did them herself? The drawings are mostly in black and white but a few are touched with color.

The story is that of Twig, a little girl who meets a tiny boy in her backyard. Through magic she shrinks down to size of the boy named Elf. Elf is actually a Brownie who has flown in on the back of a sparrow. Twig and Elf set up housekeeping in an upturned tomato can and furnish it with a table (a thimble and a bottle top,) a mirror (a shiny gum wrapper) and a broom (a feather). I have to say that not a lot happens in this book. No violence or bloodshed, and not even any enemies for Twig and Elf to fight. This is a gentle story and yet an enduring one.

Every household with children should have a copy of this book!

This is a wonderful bedtime story for young ones. The illustrations are nice and the pages are nice and sturdy.
Only very minor complaint is a couple pages have gold writing on a dark blue background and it can be a little hard to read unless the lights are on.
But soon enough you will have the book memorized and it won't matter...a very cute and catchy nighttime story and certainly a keeper!

Very sweet story, but sometimes difficult to read

This is really a lovely book. The story is sweet..a nice extension of the original Twinkle, Twinkle song. The illustration are just lovely, and somehow shiny on the page, making my one year old love to touch them. My only caveats are that some of the lyrics/words are written in gold ink, and that makes them difficult to see in certain lights. Also, when you sing it, make sure to set a fast enough pace, or else it is a LONG book! Because it's so sweet and serene, it's easy to start off slow and cuddly, but by about the 4th page, you're losing their attention and your patience. Overall I'd recommend..it's just beautiful to look at. I also like that the pages are paper, but a little thickier -- sturdy enough for little hands to turn and thumb through without tearing.

On the surface this is a very cute, very heartwarming book about the cutest little Rabbits having pretty crap day and being transported by the magical Bunny Queen janet to a planet where they can experience the day that should have been. But look deeper and you will discover a metaphor for us all - that better feeling thoughts are only a choice away, there for us to reach for any time we like. As each bunny says at the end of each story of the Bunny Planet "It was there all along". I'm going to make sure I visit there regularly! The picture of Robert, napping in the green valley is worth framing. I'm going to get a colour copy of it to remind me to relax!

This immediately became my daughter's favorite book. We read it everyday if not more than once a day. She love's it! Beautiful illustrations with a reassuring story for little ones.

I thought these were strange at first, but after more readings I love them. Some days it is fun to think that we can take a trip to the Bunny Planet! Their small size is fun for kids too. Even my 6 1/2 year old likes them -- in fact, they are best for kids 3 and up, I think.

Underrated poetry!

I agree with the positive reviews above. I just want to add a note on genre. At the start of each book, when everything is going wrong for a young bunny, the story is in regular prose. For the second half of each book, when the bunny is transported to a land of peace and perfection, Wells converts to beautiful rhymed verse. While the content of the books might be best for 4-8 year olds, the poetry is so nice that any adult would find it a good read. The transition poem in the middle of each book uses a weak rhyme with "Janet," but beyond that, the latter halves of these three books belong in the children's lit Hall of Fame!

My daughter (3) and I love this book. We turn to it whenever our spirits need a lift. In fact, the other day she told her father that HE needed a trip to the Bunny Planet after he had reprimanded her. I am purchasing a set for my daughter's preschool library so that her schoolmates will also have the chance to go to the Bunny Planet and see "the day that should have been". Get the book and start a tradition.
