Louisa County High School recommends that you read Baby Alicia Is Dying. We all agree that if you read the book then you would think before you made a bad action like Alicia's mother did. Many of us cried in the end.

Baby Alicia is Dying by Lurlene McDaniel is a great book. Well I want to tell you a little bit about what this book is about. It's about a girl named Desi who is hiv free and is trying to stop smoking and who wants a baby who is hiv positive and who wants to take care of that baby.In my opinion i think this book is exciting to me because it tells you the problems Desi is having and what she does And how she's gonna stop doing what she is doing.I recommend this book to people who like exciting books about drama and that tells you about people's lives.

I liked this book bacuase is told me about a little girl that was born with HIV. Also that seh was born HIV positive. I liked this book also becasue it has great details of what the young girl went through since she was born. I mostly liked this book bacaue of the was it decribes the characters are doing, and what is on in their mind at that time and place in the book. The sadest part was that when i read this book that I have felt the same pain as Alicia does in the book because my grandma Burger died of being HIV positive back in January of 2005.

Sad and Shocking

Alicia was a unique and really nice baby. I didn't really think she should of got putt in the hospital because her mom didn't want her. The book teaches us that anyone can help the hospital and help little kids. It also teaches us that even though you got put in a hospital because your mom didn't want you, don't mean you're not a nice person. One example was when people started to tease a girl because she helped the hospital take care of kids.

Alicia was a great baby. She loved everybody. She knew what was wrong and what was right. Even though, she was only two.

This is a great book for ANYONE to read!

I am an elevan year old girl. I am just using my moms account for this. This book was my favorite so far.I am now reading the sixth one.I was either eight or nine when I tried to read the first one. When we went to the library to get it, they did not have numbers on the side so we accidentally got the second one. This book is great and has an exciting, dangerous twist at the end. Anyone who likes cats will love this series of cat books. I am a huge cat fan so I love them. Fireheart is an awesome character. And if you already read this one, be sure to get the next one. I finished this one in a day. If you get this book, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Great book but with a sad ending

Poor Fireheart. His beloved leader is losing faith in StarClan, her warriors and her trusted deputy. He can't decide what to do. When i read this book, i figured Fireheart was losing faith in Bluestar. The suspense picks up when the ThunderClan cats chase the dog pack to the gorge. Tigerstar tries to keep Fireheart at bay so the dogs can kill him. But Bluestar rescues him and loses her last life in the process. Mistyfoot and Stonefur morn for their mother and in the end, Bluestar regains her faith. Fireheart is heartbroken. He believes that he can't do anything without the help of Bluestar. But he accepts his new position. I always cry at the end when Bluestar dies, but I'm happy in the end because i know that Fireheart will become leader.

The book that I'm reviewing is Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter. There are thirteen books of Warriors, this is one of the four that books that I've already read. I didn't really like it. The best book that I've read was Warriors: Fire and Ice. If you're a person who likes action, drama, and mystery, this is the series for you.
Warriors are cats who live in the forest. The cats are divided in to five clans when their born. They're Thunderclans, Waterclans, Windclans, Shawdoclans, and Starclans. The clans are in big tribes, which means big protectors which are called warriors. Cats have to be seven moons old to be a warrior. The following names are in the book that I'm reviewing Fireheart, Rusty, Bluestar, Sandstorm, Cloudpaw, Yellowfang and Tigerclaw. There are so many more names in Warriors. The Warriors books are fun and exciting to read.

I thought Midnight and Moonrise were much better than Dawn. The whole point of the book was for the clans to leave the forest but for the firt 200+ pages they were just sitting around watching the forest get destroyed. In Midnight the whole book was about traveling, but in Dawn the clans make a longer journey in a smaller amount of pages.Once the clans left the forest the book got better.

Nice how the Clans could come together, and not rip each others throat out.
My fave bit would have to be when Crowpaw/feather said he wasn't afraid of dying because Feathertail would be waiting for him.
Kind of longish, but still good.

This is the third installment of the New Prophecy series, the books based on Firestar's ( the hero of our Erin Hunter's first series )and Sandstorm's children, and Tigerclaw's children. ( Tigerclaw was the bloodthirsty villian on the last series ). In this book, our characters Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight, Crowfeather, Stormfur, and Tawnypelt all return from the long, sorrowful, and dangerous journey. They are missing a gentle soul though- Stormfur's sister, Feathertail, died in the second book.
If you haven't read any of these nooks yet, they are superbly written and star cats- my favorite animal! These cats live in four Clans, or tribes. They do not live with humans, but live in the forest.
Life is dangerous in the forest, as not all the Clans are always friendly. Especially now, since the humans are ripping up the Clan's territory and killing and capruring cats. When or heroes return to their home, each must cinvince their Clans to move out of the woods- and into a safe territory.
I suggest that you but every book in the series and devour them within 24 hours.I absoulutely love these books, though they contain heart breaking parts.
This review should have helped you decide to buy this book and every other one is each series. No matter the price, these books are solid gold to me!!!

I am almost 50 years old. I read this book for the first time when I was 12. I had been looking for it for a few years. The stories are as funny and interesting as I remember. I read one of the short stories to my second grade classroom. They really enjoyed it. Just having this book brings back so many memories. Thank You!

Having read this book as a 'kid,' I hoped my kids would also enjoy it. They did. I read it to them (so I could relive it), and both daughters laughed as much as I.

The perfect book for the bored kid during summer break, etc., that likes science, detective stuff, and action/ mischief that is still on the right side of the law and morality.

Well packaged and quickly shipped.

As I often (probably too often) do, I just checked the ranking of MY young reader's novel, "Hubert Invents the Wheel," against others in its category and was delighted to find "Mad Scientists' Club" one slot of ahead of "Hubert." What great company to be in!

40 years ago, I read this paperback so many times that I wore the cover off and had to re-attach it with duct tape. I didn't realize it at the time, but Brinley gave me a HUGE push in the direction of my current writing career, by combining highly accurate and detailed scientific know-how with crackerjack tales of suspense, action, and humor.

I dusted off my copy of MSC a few years ago and was astonished by how up-to-date it still felt. Much of the scientific equipment mentioned is still used today (gastroscopes, thermocouples) -- one only wonders what Brinley would've had to say about the Internet!

Well loved children's book is back in print

Like several other reviews, I first read this book in a Scholastic Book Club edition as a kid, which I enjoyed and kept. I somehow later found the second book as well.

Now I've replaced them with these new hardback editions, and can now read the 'new' (to me) volumes.

As a scout, I also liked the stories where the club was shown to be Explorers. And, as a long time viewer of the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, when they showed an adaptation of one of the stories, I knew where they got the story from (which I was able to verify as an adult).

Okay, call me a sucker for any book that teaches while it entertains. This book excels at both. The premise is that, in the middle of the night, the state of New York woke up from a dream and shouted to all the other states, "HEY, EVERYONE--LET'S HAVE A TALENT SHOW!" And so they did. And what a rompus, good time was had by all. There's plenty of over-the-top humor, song ditties, and corny jokes (thank you, Iowa!), but it's the illustrations that kept me enthralled. This book is so visually appealing, that I'd have turned to its pages again and again, even if it only said "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!" I'm guessing your wee ones who can't read will find it equally addicting. Maybe you'll get lucky and overhear them making up the story themselves.

I liked The Wind Blows Backward a lot, its one of my favorites, a classic realistic fiction book about a love story, I normally don't like love stories, but this one has action in it too, and it makes it interesting.
A girl named Lauren who didn't have a lot of friends, just a few, was in love with a jock named Spencer. Lauren and Spencer were friends throughout middle school, but lost touch in high school.
Spencer got in touch with Lauren and started to date her. Because secretly they both loved each other.
One night, Spencer had tried to do something terrible to himself because of his past life, which put him in shock trauma in the hospital.
Everybody knew something was wrong with Spencer, they just didn't know what. What could have been wrong with Spencer that led him to try and possibly kill himself?
Find out for yourself by reading this book The Wind Blows Backward, it's a great story and is interesting all the way through, I recommend this book to everyone who loves love stories but more so of action, you would want to read this book. I loved this book a lot it will definitely go on my top list of favorite books that I've read, if you read it too, I bet you would say the exact same.

This book made me feel things I hadn't felt in a long time.I had always thought my favorite book was a book serise(sp) by Lisi Harrison. My best friend found this book a few years ago in 5th grade. She let me read a few lines in the book and I thought they were intresting. We're in 7th now I finally got to read it.I felt the world around me disappear as I read through the book nonstop for hours on end. This book made me realize what I've been hideing from everyone else my whole life and that I've been depressed for years. But I also realize most of my friends are that way and we can work through it.I grew up with out both my mother and father to be there for me so I can relate to Lauren and Spencer in this book.Out of 1 to 5 stars I give this books 10000000000.I cried so hard when Spencer rode away on the motorcycle, drunk from champaigne, leaveing Lauren to chase after him in the pouring rain.I can't tell you how much tissue I used reading this book.I'm reading again and am almost finished with it.I'll probably read it 10 times before I have to return it to the library.I hope they make this book into a movie,me friend and I would see it the second it came out and she'd laugh at how emotional i am,she always does. She can't really ever understand why people are different. But oh well.I highly recoment this book be read by the entire world!!!!!!!!!

Lauren and Jake were the best of friends all during middle school. They both loved books and fantasy stories. Once Highschool folled around Lauren and Jake slowly drifted apart. Jake became popular and is the star track runner. Lauren is left in the dust working at the local library. The one day during senior year Jake walks in the library with his girlfriend and was looking for a book for their english class and he starts talking to lauren. At first Lauren is mad at Jake, but eventually they became friends again. Once Jake broke up with his girlfriend, he asks out Lauren. They hit it off great and talked about almost everything. As the weeks pass though Lauren can tell Jake is hiding somthing. It turns out When Jake was a little kid his father commited suicide and has carried that with him all these years because no one knows he knew that he knew the truth about his fathers death. As the story continues Lauren and Jake struggle with their relationship and wonder if their love is strong enough to keep Jake from making the same mistake his father did.
I would recomend this book to anyone who enjoy suspenceful love stories. This book also has some mystery to it. I think this was a very realistic book and it could happen in real life. It really makes you think about life. I enjoyed this book very much.

The Wind Blows Backward
By: Mary Downing Hahn

Lauren is shy, insecure, and smart. What could she possibly want with the big man on campus, Spencer? Better yet, what would he want with her? Still recovering from their unexpected split as friends in middle school, Lauren wonders whether or not to let Spencer back in. Spencer struggling with his own dark past presses his emotional feelings on Lauren. Will they stay strong or fall apart due to Spencer's dark moods? Mary Downing Hahn brings such a realness and life to the characters in such a way you relate to them almost instantaneously and you feel like they relate to you. If you love suspense, love, tragedy, and teen angst, then The Wind Blows Backward is the book for you. I recommend it to anyone who wants something they can relate to and can't put down.

Anne of the Island -- a cherished favorite!!

The Anne of Green Gables books are my absolute favorites!! There is something unspeakably wonderful about them that makes you return to them again and again. Maybe it is that imaginative, romantic, red-haired (auburn, sorry Anne!) girl named Anne (spelled with an E) ... for me, it is! Every time you open one of the Anne books, you are swept into Anne's world. Some of you that are well acquainted with Anne, dream that you are Anne, and I know from my own feelings that most girls probably dream about playing Anne in a movie.

In the last book, Anne of Avonlea, Marilla tells Anne that she can go to college with Gilbert. The book ended with the veil of girlhood being dropped, and Anne stepped into womanhood. In this book, Anne of the Island, Anne finds herself in a new chapter of her life. She is now at Redmond College in Kingsport. Gilbert Blythe (every girl loves Gilbert, right? I fell in love with him myself!!! J) has earned his way to go to college with Anne. Anne's old friend, Priscilla Grant, comes to Kingsport, and together, Anne and Priscilla settle in their boarding house where Miss Ada and Miss Hannah live. At Old St. Johns cemetery, Anne meets Philippa Gordon. Phil is a sweet, frivolous girl who says that she could never marry a poor man. Oh dear, this review is making me homesick for Anne! J

Anne and her college friends, Phil, Pris, and Stella, settle into Patty's Place with Aunt Jamesina to keep house. At Patty's Place many wonderful adventures take place, including trying to chloroform Rusty, a forlorn cat. One day, Anne took a walk in the park, and on her way a heavy rain was falling. Poor Anne, her umbrella blew out, but... "Pardon me -- may I offer you the shelter of my umbrella?" When Anne looked up, she saw the man of her dreams with all of the qualifications that Anne wanted in a husband -- tall, handsome and distinguished-looking -- dark, melancholy, inscrutable eyes, and a melting, musical, sympathetic voice. His name was Royal Gardner, or Roy for short. Their courtship started. Gilbert had proposed to Anne but Anne rejected him. Anne told Gilbert that she could give him nothing but friendship. Gilbert wanted her love.

At Redmond College, gossip got around that Gilbert and a girl named Christine Stuart were in love. Anne thought that Christine looked a lot like her pretend other self -- Cordelia Fitzgerald. (Any of you girls that have read Anne of Green Gables know what I am talking about). Though Anne did reject Gilbert, she was still upset about Gilbert and Christine. Roy's mother and two sisters came to visit Anne at Patty's Place, though the girls at Patty's Place did not know that they were coming that day. Well, Pris, in a desperate situation, totally lost her head and plunged her newly iced Chocolate Cake under a cushion on the inglenook sofa!

During the end of the book, in the chapter "False Dawn", Roy proposes. Anne opens her lips to say her fateful yes. It never came. Anne at last comes to her senses and realizes that she was swept off her feet by Roy's good looks and knack of paying romantic compliments, but that she could never marry Roy because she did not care enough for him. As Lucy Maud writes, "There is a book of Revelation in everyone's life, as there is in the Bible." Anne met hers when she got home from college -- Gilbert was dying.

I am going to end my review there to get you to read the book! Quite a horrible place to stop, but I do not want to spoil the end.

All of the Anne books are so well written. I think that Lucy Maud Montgomery put a lot of time and effort into them. I am glad that she did. Every girl should read the Anne of Green Gables series, and I assure you that if you do read them, you will LOVE them! I can't find words to express how much I love them! Also, these books wouldn't be good without Gilbert, Diana, and all the rest of those memorable characters. When I get married and have a daughter, I will go and get my well worn but precious set, and hand them to her and say, "Here are the best books that you will ever read. I had this set when I was a little girl, and I loved them, and I still do. Read these, please, and I hope that Anne will be your friend as much as she was mine." - P. Charles

P. S. I hope that my review has been helpful to you.

This third installment in the beloved Anne series is one of my favorites. Having just completed two years of teaching in Avonlea, Anne, along with friends Gilbert and Charlie, is ready to leave the Island and make her way to Redmond College. Her four years there offer quaint-seeming insights into college life a hundred years ago. After spending her freshman year in a boarding house, Anne and chums Priscilla, Stella, and Philippa move into a little house called Patty's Place. Even though they are committed to their studies, life is never dull. Anne has no lack of suitors, turning down no fewer than five proposals during the course of the story. And her summers are full of adventure, whether it's back in dear Avonlea or teaching as a country schoolmarm.

I've read Anne of the Island each year I've been in college, and as I finished it this time, I couldn't help but relate to Anne's excitement for the future, mingled with regretful nostalgia about the college life she was leaving behind. College is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Having attended a small Christian university, I relate to Anne's old-fashioned values and the safe, wholesome environment of Redmond.

Montgomery has such a pungent writing voice, alive to the quirks of human nature and the beauties of outdoor nature. She brings spice, optimism, and a touch of cynicism to the story and the characters. Anne's most personal experiences are recounted with poignancy, and are rooted in reality, although they may seem whimsical to modern readers. The ending is sweet and satisfying. I just love Anne, and especially this tale of her college experiences. Don't miss it.

Anne of the Island is the third installment of the smash Anne of Green Gables series. The book begins with Anne leaving for college to further her education the second time. When she arrives, she encounters a slew of minor domestic problems, a new group of friends, and Love. All of which she deals with using that famous atypical personality of a "Kindred spirit"

Although the book deals with more serious subject matter than the preceding books, as a reflection upon Anne's growing older, the book starts with the lighthearted catchy fun that made Anne famous in her prequels. Most of this fun is centered on the Anne's encounters with her roommate cats Rusty, Joseph, and Sarah-Cat. Anne's exclamations of fear at being stalked by the docile house cats is classic Anne and delicious fun.

The Book also dives into more serious matter, with Lets be friends-Lets be more than friends-Lets be friends-I hate you-Marry me! Gilbert abandoning his indecisiveness and aggressively courting Anne. Although this relation is of little interest to male readers, it is made a key plot element, most likely because it is attractive to the books target demographic, pre-teen girls. Luckily, most of the content on Anne's romance does nothing to affect other parts of the story much and as a result are harmless to skip when they become drab.

Anne of the Island is a solid installment in the Anne series. Although not equaling or surpassing Anne of Green Gables, "Of the Island" leaves little to be desired besides not having a near constant usage of the word "eh". If you an Anne fan, pick up her third book. Eh.

i read this over and over again.

this book never gets old. i've had it for so long and now i'm off to college and i still enjoy reading it cover to cover. anne is a great character, one who is easy to love and who explains herself well. the other characters are also quirky. something about this book is very universal, which i think explains why even in this century i still find myself being able to relate to Anne. the plot, while essentially a love story, is not overly sappy. and while most people would probably expect the ending, the twists and turns throughout the novel keep you entertained and engaged.

"Anne of the Island" is my favorite Anne book, and the last chapters of my copy are worn and torn because I have read it so many times. I loved it as a young girl, and I loved it again when I read it from my college dorm room (in fact, I think it's time for another rereading!). Plus, of course, a college education makes many of the literary references more relevant than they were at age 11.

Anne fans already know how wonderful are these chapters of Anne's life. This book outlines an important epoch in the series and answers the all important question of whether they will or they won't--a turning point on which the next five books hinge. And since you must start at "Anne of Green Gables" to appreciate any of it, this review cannot convince to you read just book three. It is just one more love letter to "Anne of the Island" added to this review panel.

I am a new mom (5 month old baby) and found this book amazing. I really enjoyed reading it and I love that it covers both the theory and the practical side of how a child develops emotionally. It is very well organized; the first part covers the goals for emotional development, and the second part covers the challenges one encounters. Each chapter finishes with a very specific list of tips for parents, which are summarized at the end by theme, with a note of age relevance for quick reference. You can't get better organized than that!

Wonderful and psychologically-sound!

My daughter is only three months old and already the information I've learned and applied from this book are working wonders. She's just such a happy baby and I believe that this book has made that possible. From the beginning she's been a sweet heart but from what I've read thus far I'm able to keep her smiling and understand what it is she need's from me. Every night I read this aloud to my hubby and we are just amazed how simple but effect the teachings in this book are. You may say that don't have the time to read this book but after reading just a few pages this book will make you want to find time to read it.

So much to read through.

If you are like most new moms, you will not have time to read this book. I have to read through a few pages just to get one piece of good advice from it. That's time that I just don't have to spare. This book is not good as a how-to book and is not organized well enough for anyone with children.

These audio books are wonderfully read and makes it seem like you are watching a movie. I have listened to them over and over... they are captivating. I would recommend a full cast drama reading over any typical audio book reading.

Can't praise it enough!!

The audio version of Narnia is one of my favorite things :). I have found that several ages enjoy them, not only children, my whole family has listened to them several times, and I even took them to work and my co-workers listened to them. They probably would be some what scary for young children.
Aslan the lion in this book is such a wonderful picture of Jesus, I have come to love Him more, such wonderful analogizes, that challenge you and cause you to think about life. The only complaint I would have is that some times I think Aslan's voice is a little silly, not quite deep enough, but that's my only complaint.

Love this book series!

My son loved them We have a long drive to Grandma's and these are great to fill time in the car. The dramas are well done, and more interesting to listen to than one person reading the whole story.

The note in the front of the book sums it up: Be careful, this book is dangerous. If you are looking for a lot of unusual and wacky tongue twisters which are truly hard, you need this book. It's fun reading with young children and also a fun challenge for Intermediate to Advanced learners of English as a second language. The artwork is classic Suess, too.

A book designed to twist your tongue into contortions, kids love the wackiness and also seem to enjoy seeing the grown ups mess up. Not for lightweight adult readers.

My son read this book at the barber shop and loved it so much we ordered it for him. It is a great way to teach word recognition and promotes fast reading so they practice, then they enjoy challenging the whole family to read the book. As a homeschool mom I appreciate any book that encourages my boy to read! Love that Dr. Seuss
