One morning Annie is pulled from class to learn now both her parents are dead and she and her brother are to live with grandparents
they never really knew. How can anything be normal again, now that everything she's known has vanished? And, death means forever;
nothing will ever be the same. A poignant story of vast changes and new beginnings.

A cautionary tale against overdependence upon chemicals

Written by Kisa Beres and illustrated by Julia Woolf, My Body My House is both a children's picturebook and a cautionary tale
against overdependence upon chemicals. A Body (young boy) and a House live together harmoniously at first, but then the Body
starts bringing chemicals into the house - pesticides to kill unfortunate insects, air fresheners to make the place smell
nice even though they are toxic to breathe, and more. The Body fills the House with so many chemicals that the Body gets sick,
until he finally heeds the House's advice to experience fresh air, and regrets his foolishness in depending on so many artificial
toxins. In accordance with its message and the author's wishes, a portion of all the proceeds for My Body My House will be
donated to the nonprofit organization Children's Health Environmental Coalition.
A wonderful, beautiful book!

Lisa Beres is a charming writer! Her wonderful book conveys a very important message in a whimsical way that is sure to resonate
with children and adults alike. The illustrations are perfectly matched with the story. The tale warns of the toxins present
in our homes and encourages an earth-friendly lifestyle in a manner that is poignant but not overly-serious. I highly recommend
this book, and look forward to future books from this conscientious writer.
An inspiring book and great bedtime story!

This book is a firm favorite of my [...] son and myself. The story, which is written in wonderful rhyming prose, explains
how the little Boy and his House have a very special relationship; but the pressures of `keeping up with the Jones's' impel
the Boy to introduce toxic and harmful materials into the House. The House eventually makes the Boy realize that in order
to remain healthy, he needs to make environmentally healthy choices.
The book is beautifully illustrated, the story flows flawlessly, and the language is simultaneously simple and loaded with meaning. Although the author's messages are quite deep, she tells them so beautifully and simply that young ones will absorb them without even realizing it.
I would highly recommend this book to children and adults alike.

This is a delightful book for several reasons. First is the vigor and vitality of Haskins' mind as he talks directly to you,
as he did to the audience during the three lectures given at Brown University in 1923 that comprise the book. How they must
have enjoyed the show! Second is Haskins' breadth and depth of learning as he painlessly presents the history of the university.
Third is the latent sense of relief and joy of post World War I [for the victors to be sure] that fueled the world's mine
oyster attitude of the twenties. Until the crash.
Excellent, but Brief, Introduction to the Medieval University

Haskin's text, "The Rise of Universities," is fascinating for a number of reasons. First, the story is superbly told in this
set of three lectures given in the very early 1920's at Brown University. Second, the insights Haskins inserts at various
points of the discourse are worthy of great consideration, and we very easily feel we are listening to someone who is an expert
in the subject, one who knows far more than he is telling at the given moment. Third and finally, we realize we are reading
a "historical" book, not just because the subject concerns history, but because Haskin's own role in helping re-introduce
the medieval world to a new generation of American scholars was history in the making. His more famous and acclaimed text,
"The Renaissance of the Twelfth Century," was a critical component in doing just that, but here we see Haskins "where it all
started," in the lecture room at Brown, and we close our eyes and imagine we are sitting in on these discourses exactly as
they appeared nearly one hundred years ago.
The work comprises three lectures on the medieval university, the first focusing on the earliest universities in terms of their structure, organization, and even linkage to today's universities, the second on the medieval university professor, and the third on the medieval university student. The material is presented in an extremely accessible manner, and one need not be a medievalist or medieval historian to follow the content. Much of the content is simply fascinating to anyone who wonders where today's universities can trace their lineal heritage. We read about the attempt to "date" the start of the world's oldest universities (Paris, Bologna, Oxford, Cambridge, and others), the differences between "northern" and "southern" universities, the specialties of each of the institutions, and the motivations for creating both student and teacher guilds. We also read about issues that faced the medieval professor, including the management of the classroom and its' students, the awarding of degrees, and even a little about medieval instructional techniques. We learn, too, about student life during these years, including the ever-constant quest to find money to finance schooling, the in-town brawls, and the requirements for exiting the university with an official degree. A special "extra" is the inclusion of some of the poetry written by medieval students and preserved through the years.
This is not an in-depth look at the subject, nor was it ever intended to be. (For such a book, try out History of the University in Europe: Universities from 1945 to Present by Hilde de Ridder-Symoens, which, at four volumes, is not only highly detailed, but also current and exceptionally well written.) What it is, though, is an excellent introduction to the topic that still contains many good insights on the topic and is well developed and clearly presented. As such, this book likely has two main audiences: those who wish for an introduction on the topic, and also those who are medievalists and wish to become more acquainted with Charles Haskins himself, a key personage in the field. Highly recommended.

Life at a 13th Century University

Not much has changed since the 13th century. In some ways students were freer in that they had more leeway to choose their
professors. On the other hand, especially in Theology and Philosophy departments, the inquisition was a fear near at hand.
Haskins seemed to argue that students' freedoms was somewhat equal in the end to now. Getting drunk and wasting time was as
much a part of univeristy life (in some circles) then, as now, and the number one issue of students was money -- typically
how they can get it from their parents. Most students and their parents expected some vocational, profit making, activity
to be the end result of their studies. Some students were serious; some often got drunk, sang, or got in fights, or both;
and some wrote poetry and played the guitar. Everyone was expected to speak Latin, despite what their native tongue might
be. They learned Latin so they could read works by ancient Roman poets, like Ovid, who also sang praises to being in nature,
good times with friends, and playing the guitar. There was also law to study, or various associated studies, which was profitable.
Parents didn't encourage their children, very often, to study Theology as there wasn't much money as an end result of it for
most. Many interesting details given in his effort.
Universities formed, essentially, as a student union to protect their rights against cheating local townspeople and professors. On occasion a whole union of students would leave a town, if they felt cheated, taking their business elsewhere. The Pope, about this time, I think, approved of union formations (which I feel was the death blow to communism in Europe, in the end, and will be in China as well; plus they keep America somewhat safe from being an out and out plutocracy). I don't know if students these days feel themselves part of a union though.
Haskins has a very down-to-earth point of view and argues, for whatever purpose, that the modern university owes its direct linage to the universities of the thirteenth century in Europe and he does this with effectiveness and enjoyable, but scholarly, descriptions.
Haskins has the distinction of being the father of Medieaval studies in America.

Peep Show is an eye-opener. We wonder why there's so much meat in front of our faces. The industry has tricked us, the populous,
into its cruel and heartless house of mirrors. We didn't want to go there, but our minds got weak, and now it's seems its
ok to intensively confine billions of sentient beings in filth- and disease- ridden, windowless, straw-less, comfort-less,
joyless intensive-confinement systems. Dear, dear...How did we let them get away with it? Shame on them. Shame on us. Dave
is hero, people. Perhaps he's a martyr, but someone's go to do it. Medal of honor, for you, Dave. 101 Reasons Why I'm A Vegetarian

I purchased two "Peep Show for Children Only!" My son, Ryan and I love this book. This book gives a play by play of Dave's
efforts to right the wrong with our school system and our society. Dave's plight to educate his students about dietary options/hazards
through his art lessons is to be applauded. The documented communications between the school faculty/board and he are hair
raising. I only wish my son, Ryan had such a devoted educator and philosopher to guide him through his academic years.
Dave's book pushes the envelope.. Communicates the importance of not allowing oneself to fall victim of being a silent witness
(our of peer pressure). This wonderful piece of literature makes "us" wonder exactly what these schools are NOT teaching
our children. If Mr. Warwak is "guilty" of being compassionate, empathetic and forthright with his students, then we live
in some troubling times, indeed. SINCE WHEN DID HONESTY BECOME A CRIMINAL ACT? Aren't our educators hired to do just that?
Educate in a respectful, open minded, "out of the box" manner? Loved this book!! Who needs "Aesops" when ya have "Peep Show?"
This is the real life story of David vs. Goliath... I am pulling for David... Once you read this book, your life and view
of the World of Academia will never be the same.. You will be cheering, snickering, and laughing while Dave paints this "Board"
into a corner... MUST READ.... excellent lesson for children and adults as to the true meaning of The Six Pillars of Character....
Character and Humane Education are one in the same, and shame on those school districts that don't incorporate the two into
their curriculum.... You won't be sorry! Excellent gift for that friend/family member who loves a story based on social
justice...a better gift for those who are not sure what social justice means!!! Lifelong learning, it's a wonderful thing!!!!!
Every voice counts, and I am thrilled that this book was written.. I will certainly be purchasing several more for the holidays!!
You, too will be hailing Dave Warwak as a hero.. a warrior, of sorts... His devotion, passion and loyalty to educating
his students and peers on the hazards of meat/dairy consumption are commendable and moreover, honourable...

Dave Warwack's Peep Show for Children is a clear and concise description of the stablishment's manipulation, distortion and
endoctrination of young minds. The book points out how our so called "educational system" demonize, censors and ridicules
free thinkers and descenters of the status quo. The meat, dairy and egg industries, like all corporate industries today, have
condition, brain wash children through the "educational system" into becoming gluttons, devouring other lives while destroying
the environment, other spesies and their own, and in essence becoming parasites.

recommend it for a 6-8 year old. We will definitely get good use out of it in the future!

Michelle Farias' book "25 Ways to keep Your Child Safe and Successful" makes a great gift to folks who are raising, caring
for, and/or teaching kids! A very favorable feature of her suggestions and guidance is that she illustrates each of those
25 "Ways" with a down to earth example of a condition or behavior which reaches out for something better and then goes on
to tell what can be done to bring about positive outcomes. She merits and deserves generous raves and thanks for authoring
this helpful book.

Today's world can be daunting given the many things vying for our children's attention such as the Internet, television, gangs,
alcohol and drugs. Michelle Farias, a Licensed Professional Counselor and certified school counselor, presents various problems
our children face, which are unknown to many parents, such as self-injury, sudden sniffing death syndrome, and prescription
drug abuse. Many problems such as bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, and eating disorders are now seen in elementary age children.
Farias provides signs to watch for and ways to protect our children.
Farias shares what she sees is missing in the lives of the many troubled children she has counseled and provides lessons for parents who want their children to be safe, healthy and successful. Teaching values such as responsibility, self-respect, tolerance, accountability should begin early in an effort to avert negative influences later.
I am a mother of 3 elementary-school-age girls. I find '25 Ways to Keep Your Child Safe, Healthy and Successful' an invaluable resource. While our children have not yet experienced most of the problems presented in this book, I am grateful for the increased awareness of the potential dangers and how to guide them down the right path.

Axle Annie is the dependable school bus driver. She shares the road with Rush Hotfoot - a speed grump. He does all those
things bad drivers do - drink coffee, speed, dress, shave, and whatever else anyone can think of. The kids try to help Axel
Annie to keep an eye on him. One day, he drives past the school bus while stopped. Axle Annie calls the police and Rush
Hotfoot gets a ticket. He's mad but learns his lesson in a moving way. Wonderful book.
Watch out for the grump!

Such a hilarious book! Robin Pulver and Tedd Arnold are perfectly matched as author and illustrator in this new book about
a bus driver with "Two hands on the wheel and nerves of steel"!
Axle Annie is the friendliest bus driver you would ever hope to meet. She never yells at the kids, she loves them, and the kids all love her. As a matter of fact, riding Annie's bus is the best part of the day, just ask any child in Burskyville. There is only one cloud on the horizon - Rush Hotfoot.
Rush is always in a bad mood. He hates to hear the kids sing. He hates their laughter. And he REALLY hates to wait behind Annie's bus for the children to get in and out of the bus.
One day, Rush races past Annie's stop sign. He broke the law! Annie reports him...now he is really, really, really steaming mad. Then he races across the narrow bridge...with near-tragic results. Will Annie and her kids save the day?
This is a very cute book that any child, teacher, parent, or (especially!) school-bus driver will enjoy, very much. I shared it with 4 kids under the age of 10, and all of us laughed all the way through it. Don't miss this book!

This is an excellent book. It goes into a great amount of detail on how to "baby proof" your home, particularly your kitchen
and bathroom. All advice is explained simply and concisely, and drawings are included as well. The book also talks about child
safety products a parent can buy and guidelines for purchasing infant items such as walkers, strollers, and toys. Information
is also included about outdoor safety, holiday safety, and poison prevention. I highly recommend this book to anyone concerned
about child safety.
