I loved Stolen Ponies because it was about Acorn and he is a very cute pony and he plays tricks on Tommy and Mike. Anna owns Acorn and loves him very much. And in the beginning, Tommy and Mike keep on copying Anna because they come into the paddock and Lulu comes up behind them and blows her Pony Pal whistle in their ears! I have 33 Pony Pal books and they all were GREAT but this one is one of my favorites! The girls always outsmart Tommy & Mike in all 44 books! I recommend this book to girls who love ponies and adventures!

Susan Shankle and Barbara Melton have written a book that all parents, teachers, and other persons working with children should read! What sets this book apart from the rest is its ability to inform parents as to the "evil" and the good of the internet. As therapists who have worked with children affected by the internet, the authors are able to give powerful insight into the negative and positive impacts of our new cyber world. The list of meanings of internet slang is quite useful! This is a must read...

My kids loved to have this book read to them again and again. They enjoyed pointing out all the naughty things that bear was doing. I think it also reinforced their belief that their own teddy bear ventured out and got into trouble when they were not looking! Now I am reading it to the grandkids and they are enjoying it just as much! This book is timeless!

My twin boys (22 months) continue to laugh hysterically at this book and somehow I haven't gotten tired of it yet. Wonderful illustrations with a very nice close. A bit of cartoonish violence(bears on bicycles running into mailmen) might put it in the not-for-everybody category, though.

I got this out of the library two weeks ago, and my two children, ages 4 and 2, have made me read it to them at least twice a day. They really like the story of the boy who goes for a bike ride and brings along his teddy bear. However, the teddy turns into a real bear who definately does not follow the rules of the road. We all laugh at the scenes of the boy acting sensibly (stopping when others are walking in front of him, maneuvering around garbage cans and open car doors) and of the bear plowing ahead and into all of these things. It's sweet and funny, and can also double as a safety lesson for beginner bicycle riders.

Cute.

Not too cute, but just the right amount of cute in this funny, beautifully illustrated, award-winning book about a boy who goes bike-riding with his imagination.

Our young, nattily dressed (great hat!) hero takes out his training-wheeled green and red bike, with his stuffed teddy bear. Somehow, that bear becomes a gigantic real bear, and the humongous real bear rides his own tiny little yellow bicycle along side the boy.

The wise boy explains (and the illustration show) traffic rules that he follows whenever he rides (and there are some useful ones: watching for opening doors, looking both ways, etc.). The bear does not follow the rules. He gets into accidents and mishaps, but his size and the author's good taste keep him from any trips to the hospital. Author McLeod and illustrator McPhail manage to show the danger without scaring us, and, indeed, with a bit of humor.

This is an enormously appealing little book. The symmetrical structure contrasting the boy's cautious, safe ride, versus the bear's slapstick miscues. This organization and the single sentence in each two-page example clearly explain each imp0rtant rule of the road. The illustrations by the renowned McPhail are warm and welcoming, soft and soothing, yet funny. You don't have to know how to ride a bike to enjoy this masterpiece of simplicity and imagination.

Great for Parents and Children!

This book is written so that parents and their children can interact while reading it. There are portions directed at children and portions directed to adults, with "tips" for each. By breaking the lures into categories it's easier for children to recognize them if they ever encounter one. And the "what would you do if..." scenarios are a good way for kids to discriminate between safe situations and those that might be harmful. Adults will, sadly, recognize some of the real-life predators mentioned throughout the book as they are matched with the type of lure they commonly used. One of the best books I've seen on this topic!

The author does an excellent job in presenting the information needed to protect our children. We are presenting a child safety fair, and this book will be used as a door prize to those attending. Some of the information is frightening, to think that such monsters can exist in our society is unsettling. (Read the section concerning pedophile groups, you will understand!) It's time to make a stand against those that would corrupt our kids. This is a great place to start learning how. Read it & live it! Your kids just might be at stake! Thank you.

I am sorry that I am not using this space to review this book. I have read it and would recommend it to any parent with children. I would also tell anyone who has the opportunity to see Kenneth Wooden speak take the time and go. He is wonderful to listen to and has a lot of valuable information.

I am writting because I have a close friend who has two children that have been abused by their father. She can't find any reading material on this topic. If anyone knows of a good book please let me know so I can pass the information on to her.

Thank-you very much.

I have been in the helping professions for over thirty-five years, most of which has been in Child Protection and Family Advocacy. Kenneth Wooden's book, Child Lures, was a Godsend in protecting not only children, but adults. The hour or more that it takes for you to study it, could very easily save your life, or the lives of your children. It works, I have seen it first hand. Parents love it, abusers and abductors hate it.

Protecting children is a parent's responsibility and Christian J. Bezick has written THE CHILD SAFETY GUIDE FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS to help readers meet that responsibility. Bezick is founder and president of the American Family Safety Network. He is a specialist in the arena of child safety. The guide covers topics such as childproofing, sleep safety, car seats, infant products, and much more.

Bezick provides an alarming statistic that shows more than 4 million children under the age of 5 were injured and required medical attention in 2002. He goes on to say safety must be learned. Parents and caregivers instinctively look out for obvious dangers to children, but THE CHILD SAFETY GUIDE FOR NEW AND EXPECTING PARENTS points out the not so obvious dangers and arms readers with extra knowledge and comfort to protect their children. This guide should be required reading for anyone who is given the charge to care for children.

The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents is a potentially life-saving resource. Offering plain-terms warnings of numerous hazards to infants and children, and the basics of childproofing one's home and car, chapters cover how to place one's baby to sleep (always rest infants on their back, to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome), car seats made simple, common choking/poison/water/window hazards young children face, and much more. An absolute must-have for anyone about to deal with very young children, whether welcoming a new family member or just baby-sitting for a few hours.

This is an outstanding book for all parents of young children and expecting parents.

It covers many topics, including childproofing, car seats, sleep safety, child products and recalls and household hazards areas, such as choking, poisons, windows and water.

I have found bits and pieces of child safety information in parenting magazines, websites and flyers, but this book has it all. It is not only comprehensive in its content, but also is very easy and interesting to read. The many illustrations and graphics certainly appeal to me as a mother of two young boys.

This book is to child safety as What to Expect When You're Expecting is to pregnancy!

One of the things new parents have to deal with is how to change their home, their thinking, and their habits to make them all safer for children. The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents examines how to prepare for your new child and protect them from harm. The author covers many areas of child safety including childproofing your house (cabinets, electrical outlets, stairs, etc.), purchasing a child friendly crib, car seats, choking, poison, and water hazards. Especially for a new parent there are many things that are often overlooked. It would seem reasonable to assume that a child's walker or an older child's bunk bed is safe, but they often are not. Because of this, Christian J. Bezick also takes a close look at safety considerations for bunk beds, walkers, toy chests, playpens, and other common equipment and furniture for children. The Child Safety Guide for New and Expecting Parents is a highly recommended resource for all new parents.

This is an attractive and informative book that appeals to young readers. My grandson loved it, and we quizzed him on the rules of the gentleman's game after he read it and he didn't miss a one. There is nothing more annoying that being at a golf course with one who doesn't mind his golf manners, so it is good to start them off right. I highly recommend this book.

Not only is this a well written informative book about basic safety and etiquette put in a rhythmic verse, it has a True or False test at the end of the book to test your skills when your done reading. My kids Love being quized to see what they have learned. Some of the questions really get them giggling one of my kids favorites is: True or False- you always yell FORE before a Putt. I found this to be the best book on golf for the 2-6 age range by far!! It gives a great basic knowledge on how to be considerate and not get yourself killed on a golf course and for me with kids that age- it's pretty much all I'm shooting for :) I'm looking forward to getting more of her books on this sport that my children are so over the moon about!

Count on Golf, The ABC's of Golf, Swing Into Opposites with Golf , Junior Golf Journal, Consider It Golf: Golf Etiquette and Safety Tips for Children! Susan Greene's children golf books are a wonderful collection to own. Years ago, I was looking for a book about golf for my niece and came across ABC's of Golf. She loved the bears and the rhythms and I loved that she was learning the game of golf. So, I bought Count on Golf, Opposites of Golf and Consider It Golf. I have since bought the collection for each of my great nieces and nephew. My niece (now 10) loves to read the books to them and beams when she tells them she has the same books....then I beam!!

I'm waiting for them to get a little older before I give them the Junior Golf Journal but ordered one for myself. It's a keepsake!

A great introduction to the safety and manners of golf.

My children are already fascinated with game of golf because their father is a golf nut. This book puts many of the golf rules and safety concerns into easy to understand kid language. It's a great place to start when introducing your child to golf. A word of caution...the quiz at the end is a great review, but some of the questions are worded in a tricky way for young children to answer correctly (and for anyone else who isn't "test-savvy"). The illustrations are charming, too.

Starts with the recent history of dogs helping humans (i.e. Balto, WWII, Sputnik II). Much of the book covers specific rescue dogs that assisted at ground zero. Later chapters highlight lifesaving, bomb sniffing, helping, etc. dogs. An interesting chapter discusses why Beagles are great at sniffing out contraband food for the USDA at airports. Photographs showing the dogs in action are excellent. Includes a list of resources and an extensive glossary. Karen Woodworth-Roman, Children's Science Book Review

we bought one of these for each of our neices and nephews. it is a great intro to a formerly (to most)unknown world. before 9/11, we probably didn't give much thought to the work that dogs do. Therefore we thought it was valuable for children to learn that dogs are functional members of our society, and to appreciate the work they do on our behalf. from seeing-eye companions to therapy, dogs of all sorts change the lives of people we know every day. the author did a great job of accurately researching and portraying each of the dogs in this book. We were happy to see this specialized segment of working animals highlighted in such an easy-to-read format.

While it seems to be very complete and well-researched, it's not speaking just to academics and other so-called "experts," but to people who need the information and can make best use of it. Really well presented and extremely helpful. I'm going to make sure I spread news of this "find" around.

"Keeping Kids Safe" is one of the best books for parents on this topic that I've seen. Dr. Shore writes with clarity and authority about very important issues affecting our kids, and he simply makes a lot of sense. He's chosen interesting topics; sets the stage for the discussion very well by laying out a scenario; and then walks you through the issue clearly with solid, practical advice. Dr. Shore gives you helpful background information when appropriate, and makes suggestions for what you can do for your community as well as for your child in confronting important issues facing our families today. As a social worker I think that, while the book is intended for parents, it's overflowing with very useful information for professionals working with parents and kids.

A friend gave me a copy of this book. My kids are in their teens, and I thought I'd read everything I needed to to be well-informed about the risks that lurk in a kid's (and teen's) world. I was surprised to find lots of new insights and helpful hints, along with many good resources for informtion on specific topics. I read the all the sections about teen issues, and picked up a few ideas in the earlier sections that I'll pass on to my sister-in-law (the mother of two preschoolers). But I won't be passing on the book. I plan to keep it handy on my own book case.

Can they get him out. and ones they get him out what kind of trouble is he going to get himself into next. With great illustrations, my 3 years old son can read out the story even without knowing the words. The story is about a rabbit that was struck in the street with cement. The animals in busy town tried to find ways to get the rabbit out, including using big fan, dump truck, stick, and finally power shovel to scoop him up. It is amazing that just with the simple questions, like "Can we blow him out?" can arouse the interest of the little reader to read the book. This is one of favourite bedtime stories for my son. It is really a great book. I highly recommend this book for toddlers.

THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THIS BOOK IS FUN!

Like other richard scarry books this one has the usual FUN cast of characters....The pictures are charming and the words are not imtimidating. It would be easy to follow and predict the words because the pictures are so discriptive. This was a great early reader book.:)
