I wanted to replace a damaged library book, and hadn't been able to locate a copy. This book is good, the condition was excellent, and I had it in my hands in just a few days. Good service!

Just another hand wringing, the-sky-is-falling piece of literary debris. It is really unfortunate that the authors found it necessary to prostitute their children's book characters to the gun-grabbers. Save your money, buy some ammo instead.

More drivel from the left. So many of the Berenstain Bears books offer true lessons for little ones. My kids love them. Unfortunately the authors have decided to use their bully pulpit to push there own antigun agenda. I will educate my kids to the "dangers" of guns and other inanimate objects...I neither need nor appreciate your input Mr. Berenstain. While you are certainly free to write whatever you want...so am I free to spend my money (or not to spend it) on whatever I feel is inappropriate for my family. Save your more and send a donation to the NRA.

I like this book because you see Ferdy's unexpected side coming alive, the water gun Too-Tall has is a funny part, and Ferdy's gun invention is another favorite part. This was probably my 3rd favorite book. I still have to say it is good even if it's my 3rd favorite.

The Berenstains should be praised for this work which teaches lessons to little ones that unfortunately are needed today. As a fellow author from Pennsylvania, I do think it's mighty neighborly of them to do this book that reaches kids on their level. It's got the right lessons kids today should hear early on in life. Believe me, I've covered school shootings stories in my TV career. It's never too early to preach anti-violence to kids. This book is a very helpful tool indeed.

A 7th Graders Review On:
The Extreme Survival Guide
By: Rory Storm
I didnt enjoy this book very much. Basically, it went over all of the safty tips you hear when you go to a fire or police station. It bugged me that in the backround, even where there was print, it kept on saying EXTREME in huge letters. Have you ever tried to read a book like that?
Some of the survival stories were O.K. I liked the one where a bus-driver passed out and a couple of kids stopped the busby driving it into a tree! A few of the quiz questions were a riot like:
If youre in the wild how should you best light a fire?
A. Tinder and match
B. Gasoline
C. Flamethrower
Theres just one thing about them, the answers are pretty obvious. The book did give you some handy tips on how to light a fire or make a rain-collecting device. I didnt like the real-life scenarios. In any of them, what to do should be pretty obvious.
Overall, I give:
The Extreme Survival Guide By:Rory Storm 2 stars

This book tells you how to survive with survival tips such as how to build shelters, light fires, and survive animal attacks. The book has true stories about people who escaped POW camps, survived boat wrecks, shark attacks, and freezing cold weather. At the end of the book, there is a test to see what you learned.
I would only recommend this book to someone who likes short stories. This book is more of a story book than it is a survial hand book. If you are looking for a survial hand book then I would recommend the U.S. Survival hand book.

The Extreme Survival Guide is one of those rare acheivements that combines a huge appeal to children with giving the sort of safety advice that most adults would love to give their children if they could only get them to sit down and listen. Rory Storm takes the reader through their survival skills paces from how to survive in extreme mountain conditions to what plans you could put in place to ensure a safe evacuation should your house catch fire. These hot tips are interspersed with real life stories of heroes who have survived against the odds, and role models that any adventurous child would wish to emulate. The ideal gift for any child with a spirit of adventure (if you can bear to part with it).

Too wordy, too long

I bought this book because my two year old has become afraid of fire drills after being awaken from nap at day care for a fire drill. I thought this book would be perfect, but it's actually written pretty poorly. Even though it's geared toward a slightly older preschooler, this book is way too long and not very engaging. I had to edit it as I was reading so it wouldn't be too boring. I bought another book that is much better called "Dinofours: It's Fire Drill Day!" which my daughter really likes and even wanted to take to her daycare to share with the other children.

I did not like this book. It has too many words and being twenty-eight pages long, it is too long for most pre-school children to sit through. In some cases the print is over the pictures making it somewhat difficult to read.

This book is great for anyone doing daycare, (or just forfamilies). This book is exactly what I was looking for when I starteddoing daycare, and needed to start doing fire drills with my kids. The kids love reading the book, and looking at the great illistrations. This book has taken a scary reality in life and made it easy for kids to understand.

In contrast to the previous critic -- and for the same reasons - "20 Tough Questions Teenagers Ask : And 20 Tough Answers" is just that... TOUGH. But, not in a prejidical way. Frankly, if you do not want to know what the Pope and the Church have to say, then why would you pick up a book about Catholicism in tbe first place?

With two teenage daughters, I have become keenly aware of the impact of secular society on the mores and values of our kids. The big five are alive and well in epidemic proportions in our schools and in the lives of our kids: Smoking, Drinking, Drugs, Sex and Abortion.

It is serious and we need resources such as this one to help parents deal with these tough issues. The answers are faith-filled, love-filled. But, in the context of today's society - where God is a mere convenience - His expectations of us might well be considered unfair. Tough!

Baltimore Catechism

If you are Catholic and looking for what answers the Pope has provided, this book is for you and your teen. This book is full of "don't do as I do - do as I say" such as "contraception within marriage is not within scope of this book" - No contraception SHOULD be used outside of marriage because there SHOULDN"T be any sex outside of marriage in the first place. "SHOULD" equals guilt. This book never satisfactorally answered any of the tough questions - the answers given are Catholic party line, Baltimore catechism propaganda direct from the Pope. In answer to the question "is it wrong to date someone who isn't Catholic?" the authors felt it was appropriate to point out that "in a marriage" there are "lines that simply can't be crossed" these include ethic, social and religious. If you are looking for Catholic doctrine this book is for you - otherwise it is offensive to the extreme.

Having knowledge of a trade or skill is good thing, but if you wish to write about it, it would help to have a spell-checker, grammar checker, or a proofreader. The booklet is 37 pages long. I stopped reading it at page 29 with 14 misspelled words. Also some pages were out of order. WOW!

My terminally ill daughter had been to many hospital visits and surgeries when I bought this book for her at four after reading the age range and Editor's Reviews above. She didn't like the real photos of children with tubes and wires in them. It may not be a good choice for children under 7, even if you want to introduce a little reality into the situation. The black and white photos can be bleak and depressing also. It desperately needs new photos!

For older children, it covers everything! Every procedure and machine. But it's kind of like reading a medical dictonary, and seeing all the horrible things that can go wrong, when you just want to see how the heart works.

The best there is of its kind

Although in some ways encyclopedic, this is THE book to have if your child faces surgery or other serious hospital procedures. I agree with the other reviewer that it can be a bit scary, especially for children who may be visiting the hospital for relatively minor procedures such as x-rays or even day surgery. But for the child, at least 4yr and medically savvy, this book is ideal. It covers everything that children might see or experience. It does not offer the same openings for expressing fear and apprehension that A Hospital Story does, but The Hospital Book is clearly designed to be more or a resource book than a story book (and its length does not really allow you to just sit down and read it to your child--although I did with my 4 year old). My daughter was well prepared to understand anesthesia and recovery rooms/holding rooms, etc. and to have some sense of who all the many people were in the hospital.

Margery Cuyler's PLEASE PLAY SAFE: PENGUIN'S GUIDE TO PLAYGROUND SAFETY receives Will Hillenbrand's fun drawings as it tells of too-playful playground animals who forget how to play safely. They create all kinds of problems as a result, and kids will get a laugh out of the zany guide to playground safety and fun.

Imagine a lecture from your least favorite aunt-- the one who lacks any imagination or sense of humor. That's this book. Only the dullest child won't be bored after the first four pages. Throw in some poor grammar, total predictability and moderately mediocre art and you have a book no library or school should inflict on children.

This book contains true crime stories that were published in "Seventeen" magazine between 2003 and 2007. There are some stories where teens were the victims and some stories where teens were the perpetrators. Some of the stories include: two sisters who robbed a bank, a girl who was poisoned by her mother, a boy who committed suicide, a girl who killed her mother, two best friends who died of drugs, and a girl who has been missing since 2004. This book isn't just for teens. It has the same depth of most adult true crime books.
