An Eye Opening Read!Review Date: 2001-11-11
Before reading this book, I was under the impression that I would be notified by the police if a sex offender moved into my neighborhood. I was shocked to find out that in my state, this is not so! Apparently, each state has the discretion to decide whether or not law enforcement is REQUIRED or NOT to inform the public. The book also does a nice job in outlining how schools can play a role in the notification process.
The childhood sexual abuse prevention portion of this book is a part that every parent should read. I had no idea of the different types of predators. I also did not realize how manipulative some of these people are, and how they try to gain your trust only to take advantage of your child. The tricks, red flags, and rules of safety are all great and should be read by all.
Lastly, the referrals given in the book are very handy. I used one to learn that my state did not require notifications. My advice is that, if you have children, or take care of children, you should read this book. You will learn a lot.

A former child's perspectiveReview Date: 2006-08-31
I grew up to become a police officer, so I am still obviously still interested in crime. I think it is important for parents to discuss potential scenarios involving strangers with their children, in order for the child to formulate a plan of what they would do if confronted with such an event.

Kids get hooked on it!Review Date: 1998-12-12
