All books in the WE BOTH READ series are excellent shared reading books. Many children are concerned that when they learn
to read the adult will no longer read to them. With the We Both Read series this "fear" abates. One benefit to this book
is that it covers a very important topic of safety. The children can definately relate.

I haven't been involved in Youth Ministry in several years, and back when I was, we just didn't think as much about the threat
of being sued. Sure, we wanted our kids safe, but if an accident occurred, there was virtually no threat of legal action.
When I read this book, it really opened my eyes as to the thought that needs to be put in to safety issues when you are dealing with youth in today's world. The author gives tons of advice on how to prevent things from going wrong and also gives pointers how to deal with accidents that do happen.
Every youth leader should read this book!

Keeping children safe is a universal concern. The world is filled with everyday problems that may be dangerous to their safety.
The Big Book of Safety for Young Children is an important resource to prepare your children to help them keep themselves safe.
This book was created to help parents, teachers, and caregivers teach young children how to stay safe. This book provides activities and discussion outlines to teach children to be prepared by increasing their awareness of their surroundings, how to react in a dangerous situation, who to turn to in an emergency, and why safety rules are important. Children will role-play safety situations, learn about first-aid, understand how to get help, and more. Help your children stay safe by teaching them to protect themselves.
Topics include: Safety from strangers, basic first-aid, emergencies, telephone safety, fire safety, household safety, outdoor safety and sports safety.
This is a great book for young homeschoolers and students. It includes not only rules but the reasons for them in an easy to understand format. It also includes many reproducible activity pages as well. Fun to do in a co-op setting.

Patriarch on Death-Bed- Amazon Community celebrates

HOLLYWOOD, AMERICA - A throng of mourners could be seen from miles around as the Patriarch was dragged off on a stretcher
to Cedar's Sinai Hospital on Friday, SEPT 14th 2007. Where he was diagnosed with a couple of broken ribs.
"What makes this injury so life-threatening is the fact that the ribs are directly over the heart-piece and have all these little pointy parts and every times he laughs, coughs, or hiccups, his heart gets poked," said Dr. Goldstein-Goldberg.
These injuries are believed to be the result of a valiant battle. The Patriarch was infuriated with his "agent" who had repeatedly failed to sell his magnificent screenplay, "The Orb of Eternal Darkness."
"His agent(name obscured to protect the not-so-innocent) was...mocking him and talking into his cello-phone very loudly to an imaginary film director, 'Dahling' as if to mock him," said secretary Miss Jones. "Finally the Patriarch rushed him and attempted to snatch the cello-phone from his hands. When the agent's grip proved too tight, he held onto it with one hand and grabbed the agent's sock with the other."
In the end of this stunning battle between two demi-gods, the agent fell down, knee-first onto the Patriarch's 'heart-ribs.'
Afeared that he was already dying, the Patriarch could only mumble, "He broke my heart..."
While those who knew, loved, and respected this great man of our age are wearing black and throwing ashes on their heads there is a group of people that are celebrating this "Victory" with exuberant Bacchanalia. Namely, those who left nasty comments on his reviews. "Leading this angry mob of atheists, pantheists, and the otherwise moronic, is 'Gordy-baby' self-proclaimed Canadian and 'family-man.'
"The Patriarch's rain(?) of terror is finally bye-byes!" is Gordy's official statement and rallying cry.
These hate-mongers and bigots may just be jumping the gun as the Patriarch's ribs seem to be healing quite nicely with limited "heart-puncturage."

I like this book and the others in the Decision is Yours Series. In this story, a boy encounters a a peer who threatens him
verbally and physically. The reader can create many different scenarios by choosing different actions. Once the reader chooses
an action, he goes to the appropriate page. The story changes based on each decision. Kids can see what might happen if they
choose to be assertive, aggressive or submissive. Then they can go back and try it again another way. Many of us have wished
that we could redo our own life decisions.
I have used this book with individual children and young adolescents. I have also used it with groups. Often a child or adolescent who has been victimized has trouble thinking of different options. This book can open up possibilities. It provides realistic positive and negative consequences. The reader can see that certain actions might end you up in the principal's office. Other actions might lead to new sources of social support.
I would recommend this book for elementary and middle schools, to therapists, and to children who are bullied.

Violence prevention expert Pemla Orpinas and experienced child and family psychologist Arthur Horne combine their expertise
in Bullying Prevention: Creating A Positive School Climate And Developing Social Competence, an in-depth guide especially
written for public school officials but also valuable to parents and anyone responsible for the supervision of children. Though
Bullying Prevention does delve into psychological theories, it explains psychological models, risk factors, and much more
in clear terms so that readers of all backgrounds will have no trouble understanding. Bullying Prevention dispels common myths
about bullying, and recommends taking steps not only to minimize risk factors, but to build positive prevention factors and
encourage a safe and productive school environment. An equitable balance between advanced psychological theory and tested
practical solutions, Bullying Prevention is strongly recommended reading.

In this book Ms. Berry and illustrator Bartholomew, with your help, will teach your child the value of being careful. Your child will learn to be careful around electricity, gas, heat, fire, water, medications and other dangerous things, even clutter. They will learn to be careful at home and at school. He or she will learn not to accept rides from strangers, how to be careful riding a bike and even when swimming. Yes this is a book for a child bigger that a toddler, however my toddler and I like it just fine. Get 'em started early, that's my motto.
Though this book was written over twenty years ago, it still stands up. The excellent comic book type illustrations will keep your child interested as you read along with him or her. And for the life of me I don't know why these books are not easier to get. Joy Berry is good for children, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. If you can get a hold of her books and share them with your child, you'll both be better for it.
