This big board book is perfect for your toddler in the car or at home and will keep them happy and busy, how can you not love that! The blue steering wheel on the front of this book moves and can be played with on any of the 5 pages in this book. In typical DK book fashion there are lots of real photos of cars with their names and things to do. There is a small fold out map, there are 2 pages dedicated to car colors & counting, 2 pages on opposites with flaps, Night Time Driving. The last page has a pop up adjoined bus, ambulance and trump truck.

I can't say enough terrific things about DK books, they just put out awesome books! They also have the best scratch and Sniff books that don't wear out!

Very informative, but

Life and Death on the Internet is the most informative book I've read on Internet safety. This book starts out explaining a few simple facts about the Internet and then gets serious with solutions to privacy issues every Internet uses faces, especially parents. Many helpful ideas were presented in an easy to follow format. The only concern I had with this book is that the author put an Appendix in the book listing all the free and anonymous pornographic newsgroups, including child pornography, bestiality, bondage, torture, cheerleaders (which many times include kids), and homosexuality. I understand why he needed to do that. I just feel that some may buy the book to view pornography and that is not the purpose of the book.

Overall I rate this book 5 stars. This book does not just outline the problems, but provides solutions to protect your family from Internet indecencies and protect your privacy.

This opened my eyes

After reading Life and Death on the Internet I put some of the recommendations outlined in the book. I figured it would be mildly interesting until I found out my fourteen year old son was in contact with another woman online. Pornographic pictures were sent to my son. I turned this over to the police. It turns out that the woman was really a man with a criminal histroy of molesting buys. My family has been saved. The guy who did this still has to stand trial but he is behind bars. I just pray he is convicted.

If you have children buy and read this book. I never believed that this could happen to me. I was just curious and got an eye opening experience. Use the material in this book. It could save your child's life.

Raising safe motorcycle riders

Lucky Chuck I am a grandmother who rides a Fat Boy Harley Davidon motorcyle. My little grandson has always been drawn to my bike. He has a little battery powered motorcyle he pretends is his real Harley! I bought him this book when he was 2. It has been one of his very favorite for the past 2 years. The little boy in the book works on an after school job and saves up for a used motorcycle. His mother worries that he will lay his bike down and be injured. Chuck does just that due to speeding and riding in an unsafe manner. After he gets a ticket, he decides to follow his motorcycle safety training and becomes a safe rider. My grandson always gets his safety gear on when riding his pretend motorcycle. He has learned about safe riding actions and the importance of wearing the right clothing. (He loves to hear how his grandmother has laid her bike down.) He loves the story and insists on reading it over and over. I highly recommend this for any little boy because they all some day dream of riding a motorcycle!

I read this with my 3 year old son, and he adored it! We've had it out of the library at least 12 times, and have decided to buy our own copy. It is well-written and realistically-illustrated, with an emphasis on safety, rules and respecting the police. Mom figures largely, also! I recommend this to anyone with a child who is a motorcycle nut; the endpages have neat illustrations of the parts of a motorcycle!

engaging historically accurate stories

This is one of the best stories I have read about the boarding school experience. Since the boarding school experience is told from the perspective of five different children - you get a wider view of the many aspects of what happened there. I would highly recommend it for middle school age children (or perhaps older elementary). It will appeal to children since it is told from a child's perspective and has engaging stories - like when one child plotted and carried out an escape plan. True to history, there are also heartbreaking experiences, although since they are told from a child's perspective they aren't graphic, which is better for the child reader. (But these are important to read yourself if you are an adult and discuss with your children.) This is one of those well-written stories that stays with you forever.

This is a wonderful book authored by a caring and dedicated national expert on children and youth issues, including missing and exploited children. This book, along with the other in the series by Ms. Feigh "I Can Play It Safe" provides important child safety information presented in a format that is easy to understand for both children and adults, and also very practical. These books are certainly "must-haves" for all parents, teachers, youth workers, and children's librarians. Very highly recommended!

Teach children to see running away for what it truly is: a dangerous means of avoiding problems

On Those Runaway Days is a children's picturebook created especially to help teach children to see running away for what it truly is: a dangerous means of avoiding problems rather than learning how to confront and fix them. The straightforward text offers young readers simple means with which to constructively deal with problems instead. "When I feel scared or upset, that 'uh-oh' feeling starts inside me. It's a signal that reminds me to get out of the situation right away and find an adult I trust. My 'uh-oh' feeling is telling me this is one of those times. I need to stop running away and talk about how I feel." The simple color illustrations add a comforting touch to this highly recommended picturebook, ideal for parents (or teachers) to read aloud to children as a lead-in to talking about tough issues, and as a preventative to teach children about better options than running away before a crisis happens.

An absolute "must-have" for all parents

Review Date: 2007-06-09
Law enforcement veteran Sergeant James Giammarinaro presents Parents, Predators, and Prevention: the Complete Guide to Keeping Your Kids Safe and Confident, a straightforward guide to protecting children from sexual predators, and especially, teaching children to protect themselves. Chapters give a basic grounding in how to "password-protect" one's children (choose a code word that only the parent and child know, and drill into the child that he or she must never go with someone who doesn't know it), self-defense strategies, what children should do if they're at home without an adult (lock all doors and windows, never answer the door for anyone, never answer the phone unless the machine picks up and it's a parent's voice), the dangers of internet predators, and much more. A final chapter offers additional tips for adults to staying safe, such as watching for vans and cars that pull up next to the driver's side of one's own car, especially in parking lots - this is a favored ploy of rapists seeking to abduct women as they try to enter their own vehicles. An absolute "must-have" for all parents; reading Parents, Predators and Prevention could easily save the lives of one's own children.

Must have for all parents!

How many times have you as a parent felt that sudden, sickening lurch in your stomach when you thought your child was missing...and the overwhelming rush of relief when he or she was found? We live in scary times, and reading Sergeant Giammarinaro's book helps reduce that gut-wrenching fear, because it gives parents the tools they need to prevent their children from becoming victims to a predator. Parental responsibility does not end with just reading the book, however. You have to read it, put the tools to use, explain them to your child, and practice, practice, practice abduction scenarios with your child. Don't assume your child knows how to stay safe. Buy this book and make sure - you will not be sorry. I know. My child is safe today because I used these tools.

As a bilingual elementary teacher, I have used this book for the purpose of helping children become more self-reliant, confident and knowledgable about how to handle every-day, common problems and issues. I used the topics presented as Journal Topics each day, and these always elicited in-depth discussions, among first and second graders, up to fifth graders. This book is extremely beneficial on so many levels. Try it out, as a teacher or a parent, in either language!

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time on the subject of environmental wellness. I recommend it to every person I know that has a child! It frustrates me that this book is hard to find. It's simple enough for the average consumer. It teaches alot-- Important stuff. When my friend told me his daughter has cancer, I urged him to read this book in order to protect her environment while she heals and make her future environment SAFE. PLEASE get this book back on amazon with unlimited availability!

I will have to admit that on my first glance at this book, written by two doctors and a public health expert, I felt overwhelmed by its checklists and inspection suggestions to use in our home. Did I really want to know if our home was toxic? Did I want to know if my son's school was a safe place for him to be? I wasn't sure at first, but as is typical for me and other moms I know, my parental guilt got the best of me and I sat down to read this amazingly interesting book.

The environmental checklist at the back of the book proved to be more than just another thing to do; it helped me to focus in on areas of our home where we are at risk of being exposed to toxins.

Did you know, for example, that magic markers that contain xylene can cause your child to experience headaches, dizziness, confusion, and balance and breathing problems? Scented markers can be dangerous in addition because they encourage children to taste them.

The book does contain some good news. For example, olive oil can be effective in treating head lice, therefore avoiding the potential dangers of the more caustic over-the-counter head lice treatments.

Forget about creating a germ free kitchen or bathroom - it can't be done. Using antibacterial, germ killing, sterilizing sprays will rarely result in a germ free environment, even if that were something one would wish to do. Using toxic cleaners simply replaces the germs with a synthetic chemical hazard. Overuse of such products can actually increase the potency of germs that can rise up and revolt against the products themselves. For disinfecting, simple "green" products work and are safe, or a homemade solution of ΒΌ cup of bleach to a gallon of water will suffice.

I was further surprised to learn that commercial peanut butter might be better for your child than the ground peanut version. This is largely because there are government regulations limiting the amount of aflatoxin, a naturally occurring toxin produced by mold that contaminates peanuts. A child who eats a product with high levels of aflatoxin may develop liver failure. Some fresh ground peanut butters tested at natural food stores were found to have levels higher than the government standards of this dangerous substance.

Raising Healthy Children in a Toxic World has now joined the other reference books that sit on my kitchen counter for a quick thumb through when needed. I recommend other parents add it to their bookshelves as well.

How do you keep your children safe in the world today? Unfortunately,it's a question most parents often wonder. The book "Raising Safe Kids In An Unsafe World" is a wonderful resource that takes a parent's most worst nightmare, and step-by-step, breaks it down into simple prevention methods that any parent can employ.

She explains everything from educating your children in a non-fearful and non-threatening way, to giving them ways to escape difficult situations. A frightening thought is turned into a useful and easy-to-read safety tip. Parents shouldn't be afraid to discuss safety with their children. With this book, and the other products that are available from Yello Dyno, parents and anyone concerned with children's safety can easily learn and implement this information into their own lives.

Stopsexoffenders.com highly recommends this well-written and inviting book to everyone caring for children. Every parent should have this book in their home. It offers simple, non frightening methods children can do to stay safe. Best of all, it stresses that children are often alone when abuse occurs and teaches them how to stay alert and smart to avoid and/or escape the person and situation. Stop hoping and praying it won't happen to a child you love and buy this book.

This is a great book that teaches even the smallest child about using safety in different situations. It is hilarious yet helpful in teaching safety. Don't leave toys on the steps or you'll be a nit wit. Many other valuable lessons to learn!

I read this book as a kid and it was probably the funniest book in the library. This book is basically a catalog of different kids who do unsafe things. Each one has a picture and a silly "NIT-WIT" name, like the Dare Dumb Nit-Wit who is about to jump off the top of the stairs. Munro Leaf does a great job of explaining why you don't want to do the things these kids do, so the book has lessons to learn while still being entertaining. The drawings (stick figures) are very simple, but are pretty funny for children to see. Years later, I still remember the drawings of the kids who got into the shower without checking how hot it was, pet a strange dog and got his arm stuck in the dog's mouth, who ran and fell with a lollipop in his mouth... the stick figures are not gory or violent, just kind of silly.
